Full Steam Ahead

stempbl1
Make NO mistake: it has been a calculated plan for STEM and Common Core to be directly related. Thanks to the ESSA, it will be even more embedded in education via College and Career Readiness.

For this edition of my Weekend News, I will be diving into STEM, STEAM, College and Career Readiness and how these connect to not only education, but a top-down Washington, D. C. led agenda to make our nation a STEM one.

How I know STEM is a Top-Down Agenda for the Nation:

1) The first article I wrote exposing the PCAST (President’s Council on Advisors of Science and Technology will give you the full Report laying out how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) was to be quietly implanted in the (then) about to be released Common Core State Standards. The Report will state (in so many words) that the agenda was for a STEM nation, a STEM workforce, and we would be STEM citizens. This agenda is meant for everyone, not just students in traditional schools. If you haven’t read it: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/02/from-the-files-pcast-stem-and-common-core/
Here you will find out how STEM was embedded in your RttT funding and has been extended via education waivers:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/02/wybi-wednesday-rttt-stem-ed-waivers-and-more/

If you would like to access the current activities of the PCAST, where STEM will certainly be a huge factor of:

2) Further evidence was revealed here on my blog about the connections of Common Core, STEM, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math).

Visual Evidence of the Overreach of STEM/STEAM  in our communities:

Here, where I live, in NC, the daily media is stepping up the STEM offerings for our community. I first showed you this effort last year, 2015 in my article titled ‘Aligned Summer’. In it you will find a short You Tube video, as well as links to check out for  yourselves to see where and how STEM is being quietly implanted.

If you want to know what those who implant STEAM in our schools do, read this excerpt from ‘How to Start a STEAM Program’, “The approach to STEAM varies from school to school, depending on each district’s appetite for integration. Some schools fully immerse the arts in STEM subjects, developing a full year’s STEAM curriculum to accompany
every lesson unit. Other schools pick and choose projects to integrate throughout the year.
Many schools are creating physical spaces, often called “makerspaces,” as a home base for STEAM. Similar in vibe to a lab or studio, these makerspaces are often converted storage closets or computer labs. Students can work in these makerspaces on STEAM projects independently, in small groups or with a whole class. Typical materials and devices in a makerspace run the gamut: 3D PRINTERS, LASER CUTTERS, ROBOTICS KITS, ELECTRONIC INVENTION KITS SUCH AS THOSE FROM LITTLEBITS AND MAKEY MAKEYCOMPUTERS,  CRAFT SUPPLIES, HAMMERS, NAILS AND SAWS, SEWING MACHINES and FABRIC.”

Weekend News: “No”, a Powerful Word!

stopfeded

Anti CCSS Warriors, have you noticed how “no” is working in our fight to free our nation of all things ‘Common Core’? Slowly, but surely, our voices are proving effective. However, we have a lot more speaking to do! In this edition of my Weekend News, I have some ways in which we are proving ‘no’ is succeeding in chopping up the CCSS Machine!

Just Saying “No” to Dr. King:

A few days ago, someone posted on Facebook to use the hashtag: #saynotoking on Twitter. There have been a few comments shared. We need many more Tweets, Warriors!
Another hashtag which needs more comments and is related: #sayno2king.
You can post your anti-King comments on the account #noking, but be warned, there are many other comments referring to more sexual topics than anything else. The same will ring true for the hashtag #no2king.

Of interest and can be related to saying ‘no’ would be to ‘crash’ the NEA Summit’s Trending Twitter account, happening this weekend. NEA (National Educators Association) is a well known member of the CCSS Machine and was totally supportive of the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). Let ’em know, we the opposed, are saying ‘no’, ‘no’, and a ‘thousand times, no!’ to Dr. King AND ESSA!

Every Congress member should know our position when it comes to fed led education!
Every Congress member should know our position when it comes to fed led education!

The Devil is in the Details:

While the date of 2/25/16 was widely shared as the confirming/denying vote for Dr. King, little was shared about the the ‘quiet approval’ of the U.S. Senate HELP Committee (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee) on the 25th of February 2016.

Since it is, in fact the entire U.S. Senate who must confirm or deny Dr. King’s appointment as the U. S. Secretary of Education, let their Twitter feed reflect our ire and disgust! Use #USSenate! To date, there is only one Tweet devoted to saying ‘no’ where Dr. King is concerned. Let’s see if we can increase that number exponentially, shall we?

We must use the days between now and 3/9/16 to continue to raise awareness, to speak louder to EVERY U.S. Senator in saying “no”. How do I know the vote was cast? A pro-side CCSS Machine member’s Tweet:
postponeking
By looking further into the Tweet, I found the U.S. HELP’s proceedings were quick (about 2 and 1/2 hours) and another step in the WRONG direction for education!
Follow this link to get the EdWeek viewpoint (will be the second article you see) Then go to the hearing itself from the HELP Committee.
The EdWeek link: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/campaign-k-12/
See: http://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/nomination-of-dr-john-king-to-serve-as-secretary-of-education
(Warning: Sen. Alexander begins the entire hearing, so have a punching bag ready! You will also need to hear the new Coalition Alexander spews off in his opening comments.) While it painful to listen to, as an anti CCSS Warrior, you must! It gives us plenty of clues as to where to target our ‘no’ voices!

To see Dr. King’s prepared statement given before the U.S. HELP Committee:
http://www.help.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/King8.pdf
(Note: Dr. King directly points out the work to be done to update the HEA, Higher Education Act. Big warning for MORE alignment to the CCSS Machine, Warriors!!)

To contact your Senators directly, use the U.S. Senate contact pages:
http://www.senate.gov/senators/contact/

To help put together a Twitter rally and/or Facebook campaign of urging the Senators to ‘just say no’ to Dr. King and his reign of pain in education, help me urge your state groups or national groups against CCSS, to get this ‘no’ effort to increase! If you have ties to the Patriot Journal Network and are familiar with their awesome Twitter rallies to bring attention to a cause, let them know we need help immediately! Together, we CAN do much! Together, we can say “NO” forcibly enough Washington will have no choice in confirming Dr. King, they will have to deny him! Are you with me?! Great! Keep saying NO to federally led education! Keep saying NO to the embedded CCSS in the ESSA, in spite of what lies you hear that it isn’t!! Help us unite to say ‘YES’ to Stop Fed Ed!!

FTF: CCSS Education/Community Alignment Reaction

The Common Core Machine loves to create minions to do its bidding.
The Common Core Machine loves to create minions to do its bidding.

I really hope yesterday’s article got your attention. I know for those of us fighting to rid America of the CCSS Machine, its initiative; their educational inappropriateness; and everything else related, we needed to know that information. However disgusted we may be, we need to press on.

Among several anti CCSS Warriors, many nerves were touched by the image of the hub from yesterday. While I understand WHY the image may be upsetting, it is important to know that because of the information, others responded (either via Twitter or Facebook) with very similar images that depict educational/community alignment. Below is the one from “Tacoma 360” for a parents school!

Courtesy of Diana Anderson via the 'Stop Common Core in Oregon' Facebook page.

Here’s what another reader posted from Oregon:

1618311_455611634539888_481179049_o

Both the anti CCSS Warriors who provided these noted that like Ms. Hoge’s discovery of the 1990s hub (featured in yesterday’s post), these new versions all capture the Goals 2000 or Agenda 21 concept.

Another reaction which was shared to help us all in this data mining/community aligning educational reform is from another one of the anti CCSS warriors who happens to specialize in computer technology. His submission: http://itsmypii.com/
According to the mission statement for “It’s My Pii”:Secure, protect and defend Parental Rights and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of students, parents and teachers.’

Another follower was able to spot how the hub is a symbol used by several groups determined to undermine our nation.

No matter what we see, the fact of the matter is the CCSS Machine’s INTENT is this:
Reshaping America (at any cost) in the name of education reform.

From Twitter:

In response to my article, Mrs. Anita Hoge posted the following DIRECTLY related resources. I urge you, as Warriors Against the Core, to access these, share them, and contact your legislators immediately!

Her 1995 discoveries titled “Womb to Tomb”Womb_To_Tomb-Anita_Hoge-1995-299pgs-EDU.sml

Contrast her findings on page 197 and the following pages with Sen. Lamar Alexander’s original vision for an aligned community via education reform. Remember, he’s the main person behind the “Every Child Achieves” Act (S1177). He also is the main one behind the upcoming re-authorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA).

Here’s the visual explanation Mrs. Hoge tweeted earlier today:

Much of the re-authorization of the ESEA includes Title One funding!
Much of the re-authorization of the ESEA includes Title One funding!

Another good article she guest wrote that ties in ‘whole child learning’ and all the community alignment: http://www.newswithviews.com/guest_opinion/guest229.htm

The “Whole Child” Learning Destroyed by CCSS?

Yes! Before the outcome based education model, ‘whole child learning’ was what another dear researcher and anti CCSS Initiative Warrior, Donna Garner calls the “Type One”  whole child learning. That’s where basic, good academics were taught. Contrast that with her “Type Two” (outcome based education) definition of ‘whole child learning’. That’s all out performance levels, workforce training..in other words almost NO academics!

To further explain this shift , read her article about reading vs. pre-reading:
http://kgab.com/battle-lines-drawn-in-common-core-standards-whole-language-vs-phonics/

You may wish to see Mrs. Garner’s ‘whole child learning’ revelations on this North Texas
website. (Scroll to the bottom and look for point #3 where it is pointed out how illegal the ESEA waivers are and how the funds are being used to misrepresent ‘whole child learning’.)
http://www.northeasttexan.com/headlines/2015/2/21/big-texas-problem-congressman-culbersons-language-in-hr-5-th.html

The CCSS Machine’s idea of “Whole Child Learning” can be found at the ASCD website. ASCD is Gates Foundation funded. (I’ve exposed their ties to Gates and CCSS in other articles). Here’s their definition of ‘whole child learning’, “A whole child approach to education is defined by policies, practices, and relationships that ensure each child, in each school, in each community, is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. It engages all stakeholders—educators, families, policymakers, and community members.”  To see the rest of the description: CCSS-and-Whole-Child-one-pager
