A Pied Piper’s Tale

Warriors Against the Core, it’s not a festive report I bring to you today. However, it IS relevant to our War Vs Fed Ed.

That stated, I would like you to recall the ancient tale of the Pied Piper. You may remember the version where the Piper would play his flute to lead the rats away. However, the original version of the tale is a bit more sinister. In that version, the Piper returns to the village for payment for removal of said rats. His payment? The children. I’ll leave it at that. However, if you wish to read the more ghastly version: http://www.ancient-origins.net/myths-legends/disturbing-true-story-pied-piper-hamelin-001969

So how is the CCSS Machine playing its own version of the Pied Piper?

I think, we, as educated anti CCSS Warriors, know how: with deception at almost every level of existence.

Depending on what type of deception is needed determines what tune the Piper uses on the flute. Depending on what level of ‘accountability’ is being performed determines just who the Piper may be at that moment. For example, The Pied Piper of ESSA has to be Sen. Lamar Alexander playing his ‘song’ of ‘returning education control to the States’. However, the Piper’s tune for something like ‘filling the skills gap’ or ’21st Century Skills’ could be led by many groups anxious to lead our students away.

In the remainder of this article, our Piper for the “21st Century Skills” is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“Business Leads Solutions”:

The Academy Piper Tune:

First off, watch the video about the “Academy”:

So, Warriors, just WHAT does this organization do to lead our students off to a CCSS/CTE/Workforce Educated demise?! Here’s an excerpt from Oct. 2016:
“The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USCCF) announced today the first cohort of nineteen participants in the Talent Pipeline Management Academy which is supported by a $2.5 million grant from USA Funds. USCCF’s signature workforce development initiative, Talent Pipeline Management (TPM), is a new way of addressing the nation’s skills gap by positioning employers in a more central role as key customers of post-secondary education and training providers. The TPM Academy consists of workshops led by USCCF for business professionals to receive instruction on talent pipeline strategies and guidance for implementation. In addition to a curriculum, technical assistance, and a peer-to-peer learning network, a key resource to be developed as part of the Academy will be the next generation of software tools and applications that support ongoing implementation of signature TPM strategies.”

More Piper Tunes:

One of the ‘biggest’ Piper tunes the CCSS Machine churns out and that ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) plays, leads students astray via business/corporate overreach into the classroom as the answer to lots of ‘skill gap’ problems.

GradsforLife plies this ‘tune’“The talent pipeline is developed with specific needs and current challenges in mind. Standards developed by the employer coalition are constantly changing based on the current economic environment. It is, therefore, more impactful for the business community to define what skills its workforce needs than to wait for the world of academia to catch up. At the same time, this progressive approach may incentivize academic chiefs to develop reforms.”

Warriors, we’ve seen enough non-educator based disaster via the CCSS Machine. We do not need more. Yet, between ESSA, WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), and HEA (Higher Education Act) have laid a road for the “Pied Piper” where businesses and corporations INCREASE their overreach into the classrooms.

Of the Case Studies the U.S. Chamber’s Talent Pipeline has conducted, at least 2 are corporations and/or businesses are ones I’ve researched and published my findings as to each of their “Pied Piper CCSS/CTE” tunes. Toyota and General Assembly. It features a made-for-You Tube movie were students are given achievement tests. If they pass, they live; if they do not, they die.)

Closing:

Warriors Against the Core, I do not wish to leave you on such a drastic mental image. However, I am not the only Warrior who’s compared what is happening to our students to awful things. I am not alone in hating what is going on in America, as far as our education system being so overrun with Pipers who deceive, indoctrinate, and conform our students.
We must mute their tunes! We must stand between the Pipers of Reform and our students, regardless of their age. The Pipers of Reform are here for EVERY student, not a select few.

A Fox In The Hen House

Warriors
, in my last Weekend News, I shared with you much about the Ed/Workforce Committee’s latest email propaganda moves for education. (If you missed it, here’s the link: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/12/04/weekend-news-worker-ed/ )

As if to rubber stamp all the success of the Ed/Workforce under Kline’s leadership, it was announced on 12/2/16, that Rep. Virginia Foxx (from right here in NC) had been tapped as the new leader.

It hit the news on that same day that one of Foxx’s statements included how she’d love to take down the U.S. Dept. of Ed. While that may or may not be what happens under her rein over Ed/Workforce, I do know how unhappy quite a few of Foxx’s fellow North Carolinians are with her education votes from the past.

(To see the news article: http://www.politico.com/tipsheets/morning-education/2016/12/foxx-in-the-house-217653)

To see how she reacted to the House’s version (HR5) of  ESSA moving forward,
https://ladyliberty1885.com/2015/02/26/rep-foxx-is-dead-wrong-on-h-r-5/

Look below and you will see how StopCommonCore NC reported her vote on ESSA (after HR5 and S1177 were combined):

If you think Rep. Foxx will help rein in the U.S. Dept. of Education, please look at the screen shot below. The added emphasis is mine.

henfoxx

Here’s an excerpt of her statement, H.R. 5587, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, updates the law to reflect today’s economic needs and the challenges that students and workers currently face.In particular, I’m pleased that the bill streamlines the number of performance measures for postsecondary programs and aligns them with the performance measures in WIOA, retaining that law’s precedent-setting accountability standards that let taxpayers and lawmakers see clearly which programs work—and which programs don’t. This bipartisan bill goes a long way toward ensuring that individuals who pursue a technical education have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. However, I believe it’s time we acknowledge that all education is career education and stop dividing the path to a high school degree into two tracks.”
The entire statement: http://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=400943

HR5587? That’s a nightmarish bill which has been championed as a savior for America! It’s also one the Ed/Workforce has used Gov. Pence’s 2015 CTE speech as a selling point. To see just how toxic for true academic education this bill is:

The Lady Doth Protest TOO Much:

About 1 month ago, I researched and published an article about the ‘angry 25’ Congress members who felt it necessary to pen a letter of disgust over the way in which ESSA was being implemented. One of those ‘angered’? Rep. Foxx. See the screen shot for an excerpt from that article.

Funding The CTE Love:

Since Rep. Foxx has a background in both business and education, I was curious as to when she went from academic based education to career based education. Especially in light of her bold statement (see the fox in the hen house picture).

According to the FEC (Federal Election Commission), among her recent Campaign contributors are:

Education Affiliates based in VA (a education business group which ‘delivers real-life career skills’) What’s interesting is that both managing members of EA were formerly employed by Global Knowledge, Inc. Global Knowledge, Inc. has ties to IBM (a huge CCSS/CTE supporter).
Their website: http://www.edaff.com/ (*Note: to see the management team info, select ‘management’. Click on ‘our schools’ to learn how education is a business for profit.)

Finance Scholar Group based in CA, but has offices across the nation. FSG assesses public policies and advises clients in strategic moves. They also conduct research. Among their experts are ties to at least 3 pro CCSS/CTE universities or foundations: Harvard, Carnegie Mellon and the Kellogg Foundation. Rep. Foxx was not listed among the FSG’s client list.
Their website: http://www.fsgexperts.com/

College America, Inc. (is part of Center for Excellence in Higher Education, Inc.) based out of UT, but has non-profit campuses across the nation. CA offers free GED courses (GED is now CCSS/CTE and College/Career Readiness aligned); skill based degrees (since 1964), and more. The parent company, Center for Excellence in Higher Education, Inc. is also based in UT. The sole stock holder, Carl Barney has a very interesting education philosophy. He literally bought schools without any educational background. His biography revealing this can be found: http://essonline.biz/Carl_Barney%20.pdf
Barney’s education activities were also reported in the NY Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/03/business/some-private-colleges-turn-a-tidy-profit-by-going-nonprofit.html

The Center’s website: http://www.cehe.org/
College America, Inc.’s website: http://www.collegeamerica.edu/

There are probably many others, too. If you’d like the link to her FEC information:

In 2014, Huffington Post published an article questioning the top corporate donor ties between for profits educational groups and Foxx’s campaign. See: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/davidhalperin/top-donor-for-house-educa_b_5378324.html

According to Open Secrets website, Foxx’s top donors include quite a few pro CCSS/CTE corporations like: BB & T, Home Depot, SAS Institute, and AT & T.
Open Secrets Website

In 2010, Home Depot, Inc. began giving Trade Scholarship in support of CTE.
See: http://www.techedmagazine.com/node/1813
As seen below, in 2014, they still were at it:

depotcte
In 2013, the NC Bankers Association presented NC Governor Pat McCrory with their support statement endorsing Common Core State Standards. BB & T is a member of the NC Bankers Association and has Board members in several committees.
See: https://www.ncbankers.org/press-release/north-carolina-bankers-association-presents-common-core-resolution-to-governor/

SAS Institute was one of the most frequent presenters in NC at several hearings. Always in support of the Standards, too. Here’s one example:
 https://ladyliberty1885.com/2014/05/22/an-nc-chamber-holds-common-core-propaganda-event-pt-3/

AT & T’s been supportive of CCSS/CTE in many ways. The Foundation arm of AT & T is a member of the GradNation Project; The AT & T website has a 21st Century Career Skill Initiative going on.

Closing:

Will Rep. Foxx be another ‘ed champ’ or ‘ed chump’ for America? Unless she’s changed her views on CTE, it looks like the CCSS Machine has another ally in a strategic location. From the financial aspect, I do not think we need to wonder.

FTF: Measure Twice, Cut Once

This old adage is great for woodworking, but NOT for education.
This old adage is great for woodworking, but NOT for education.

Repeatedly, you have read my researched articles verifying CCSS, CTE, STEM, and all the other names of the programs, resources, or standards “Common Core” goes with. For today’s “From the Files”, I’ll show you how MORE private companies are measuring education, not once, but twice. Their aspirations? In my researched opinion, to have cookie cutter students/citizens!

“USA Funds” and their Measuring:

Before we look at what USA Funds does for education meddling, here’s a visual of one set of ‘tools’ they offer to measure our students.

Return on investments belong in finance. Humans should be treated with dignity.
Return on investments belong in finance. Humans should be treated with dignity.

Here’s a dead giveaway for the CCSS Machine’s involvement in education, a P3( Public Private Partnership).

Is MT the only state partnering with USA Funds?!
Is MT the only state partnering with USA Funds?!

Okay, now I have your attention, just WHO is behind, or WHAT is, USA Funds? According to their website, “In 1960 USA Funds® was founded by a group of business leaders who were concerned about the rising cost of a college education. The company was incorporated with the purpose of providing aid and support to college students from all walks of life and particularly among those who otherwise might be unable to attend college. In 1961 USA Funds guaranteed its first student loan.”  Now, fast forward to 2015 and you’ll see:
“Today USA Funds has adopted “Completion With a Purpose” as the guiding principle for its philanthropic and investment activities, supporting initiatives that are focused on transforming the higher education experience for America’s students so they are prepared for jobs in the 21st century economy.”

That “Completion With a Purpose” program? Hang on to your anti CCSS warrior hats:
4 pro CCR (college and career ready), CTE (career tech education), and/or CCSS (Common Core State Standards)  goals! a) “streamlining key education transitions”; b) “facilitating smoother pathways from campus to workplace”; c) “promoting innovative college and career preparations”; and d)“frameworks for data-driven decision making”. Now, if you are a seasoned anti CC Warrior, you picked up on the alignment buzzwords. However, if you are new to fighting CCSS, you may need a hint as to where in plain sight, the CCSS buzzwords are. They are, “streamlining”, “pathways”, “college and career prep”, and “data driven”.  If you would like to see the 4 goals and their entire descriptions, visit: http://www.usafunds.org/Pages/About.aspx There you can read the target student populations USA Funds are seeking. As with anything, any group, or any person connected to the CCSS Machine, USA Funds’ “Completion With a Purpose” is written in detail and is the theme of their 2014 Annual Report. I’ll share the document with you, but I’d like to preempt it with telling you the Report is slam full of CCR (college/career readiness), closing the ‘skills gap’, and much more. You can see how they are working hand in hand with the US Chamber of Commerce (a well known and easily identifiable member of the CCSS Machine). You can also see how they are tied with the “Jobs for America” program, also CCSS/CTE aligned to the hilt (I previously wrote about JfA and will include the link to the article at the end of this one). Lastly, you can learn how USA Funds is  supportive of outcome based/workforce driven education. Read: 2014AnnualReport

Okay, so far, we’ve learned USA Funds is CCSS supportive and as such, uses ‘tools’ like the first screen shot to ‘measure’ our students. The “Completion” Project can be considered another ‘measure’. How so? We know from the first hand accounts AND from documented research that ANYONE in the CCSS Machine’s path will be measured, assessed, and tracked via data mining. Is there more ‘measuring’ conducted by USA Funds to help churn out more ‘CCSS cookie cutter grads”? You bet there is!

USA Grantees:

Below are just the MAJOR grant awards USA Funds has given.
(As stated above) Jobs for America (CCR Ready)
College Success Coaching 21st Century for 21st Century Scholars (increasing graduation rates)
Missouri Campus Collaborative (workforce ready education on a student outcome base)
US Chamber of Commerce’s Talent Supply Pipeline (to close the ‘skills gap’. I’ll provide the link to the article I wrote about the ‘talent supply’ at the close of this article)
Complete College America (deliberate career planning based on assessments/data track)
National Governors Association ‘America Works Policy’ Academies (other funding entities joining forces to support the NGA’s education/workforce linkage)
Purdue Polytechnic Indianapolis (career/college ready pathways especially geared for STEM {Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math})
Tulane University Cowen Institute Learn and Earn Career Pathways (equips those not in college or working to go on and earn a national credential for the workforce)
AACU (Association of American Colleges and Universities) Committing to Equity and Inclusion (increased student outcomes/achievement)
Prior Learning Assessments for MT Vets (assesses, then career pathways aligned to assessment)
AASCU (American Association for State Colleges and Universities) Re-Imagining First Year College (increases retention and achievement rates of freshmen students)
U.S. Conference of Mayors/USA Funds Pathways With a Purpose Initiative (competition based grants for CCR education advancement)
Education Commission of the States: States Financial Aid Redesign Project (aid recipients motivated via persistence toward completion of education. Also creates task forces to influence policies concerning performance based outcomes)
MT Tribal College Apprenticeship Initiative (gearing Native Americans for jobs to fit workforce needs; involves MT’s state Dept. of Labor)  (I’ve written about the aligned to CCSS/CTE/CCR apprenticeships before. That article will be included below with the other articles related to this one)
University Innovation Alliance (enhancing student outcomes/success) (see article below)
Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Workforce Development Initiative (aligns education and IN specific workforce needs to “address the skills gap”)
Midwestern Higher Education Compact Multi-State Collaborative on Military  Credit (involves military with Career Pathways) (Look for a related article below)
Community Health Network Nursing Academies (transforming nursing education)
Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Adaptive Learning Initiative (personalized learning based on best practices)

Those are just the education based grants USA Funds gives out.  To read the entire descriptions of each of these above, see:
http://www.usafunds.org/PhilanthropyNationalEngagement/Pages/CurrentGrantees.aspx

They also have a section of community based grants. Warriors Against the Core, there’s more alignment to the CCSS Machine in those grants as well! See the community based groups receiving pro CCSS/CCR/CTE backer based funds from USA Funds:
http://www.usafunds.org/PhilanthropyNationalEngagement/Pages/Partnerships.aspx

What does all this prove? Massive amounts of money funneled through one group to impact entire states, regions, and communities…and ALL for Common Core alignment through P3s!

USA Funds also has career alignment for the ‘disconnected youth’. As far as the ‘college value’ where our students of all ages are concerned? Among the grant recipients included are the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation, American Institutes of Research(AIR), Gallup, U S National Skills Coalition (see below for their article), and others! See:
http://www.educationvalue.org/grantees/

As far as the value of our students college education, the screen shot below will show you how USA Funds feels each state’s ROI (Return on Investment) should look.

FTF: Visual Special for the Anti CCSS Machine Warriors!

Greetings my fellow Warriors against the CCSS Machine. By now you know I am 100% opposed to the Common Core, the Career Technical Education arm of the Common Core, the College and Career Readiness arm of the Common Core, and every OTHER connected entity of the CCSS Machine.  Today’s “From the File” Tuesday article is a special visual edition. Why? Congress is back in session..which means votes could come ANYTIME between now and the next break (or, votes could come after the first of the year). Regardless of WHEN the votes happen, the fact is that BOTH the HR5 and the S1177 will be among those bills voted upon!

Since our time is NOW to let our voices be heard, we must use EVERY available means possible. Call the legislators who represent you. Write the legislators who speak for you. Use social media as a tool to send a visual message that speaks to your legislators! Below are suggestions of appropriate visuals you can use (complete with captions). Use what you choose, customize the captions or create memes from them, I really don’t care..just use them to send a message your legislator won’t soon forget about HOW important it is to KILL the HR5 and theS1177!

Here’s one to address the constant assessments:

I do not support the over assessing of students and their teachers via the Common Core aligned tests; the Career Path assessments; or the data mining included. STOP HR5 and S1177.
I do not support the over assessing of students and their teachers via the Common Core aligned tests; the Career Path assessments; or the data mining included. STOP HR5 and S1177.

Here’s one sure to wake up a Congress member. If they value their jobs, they need to know this truth!

Support our Constitutionally created government! Vote NO to the re-authorization of the ESEA! Stop HR5, S1177.
Support our Constitutionally created government! Vote NO to the re-authorization of the ESEA! Stop HR5, S1177.

Here’s one to show your legislators that ANY human is NOT ‘capital’. CCSS, CTE, and all that’s connected reduce ALL citizens to this debased capacity. We MUST speak up!

How the Initiative behind all that Common Core encompasses SEES your students like this.
How the Initiative behind all that Common Core encompasses SEES your students.

Here’s a ‘classic’ of mine. I found these lapel pins on Zazzle. I’ve worn mine to every event I can where education is discussed. Quite effective all by itself.

In spite of all the fallacies of the CCSS Machine when it comes to 'returning local control' and 'ending CCSS', one FACT remains!
In spite of all the fallacies of the CCSS Machine when it comes to ‘returning local control’ and ‘ending CCSS’, one FACT remains!

Below is one of the latest visuals I’ve used to help raise awareness of how vital keeping our students away from the CCSS Machine it is.

Congress, I want MORE than just a shell of who my students used to be. STOP the HR5 and S1177 emotional abuse!
Congress, I want MORE than just a shell of who my students used to be. STOP the HR5 and S1177 emotional abuse!

Here’s an ‘oldie but goldie’ that’s been on the Internet for quite a while. It’s still very powerful.

Corporations tied to CCSS do NOT represent the people's voice. Stop HR5 and S1177.
Corporations tied to CCSS do NOT represent the people’s voice. Stop HR5 and S1177!

Here’a s visual which is used by the pro CCSS side to suggest how much ‘choice’ there is in an aligned educational system.

Education via HR5, S1177, and the post secondary CCSS/CTE is NO CHOICE for America!
Education via HR5, S1177, and the post secondary CCSS/CTE is NO CHOICE for America!

Below, is an appropriate visual. Why? The U.S. Gov’t created this to show us how great competency based education (that’s stackable and will follow the student wherever they go in life) can be. We can use it to show them our students are MORE than ‘chunks’!

My student is MORE than a 'stackable' chunk of credits. HALT the CTE embedding in my child's education!
My student is MORE than a ‘stackable’ chunk of credits. HALT the CTE embedding in my child’s education!

The CCSS Machine disrespects special needs students and teachers 100%!

Encompassing a 'one size fits all' education is one of the biggest disabilities served to our special needs students.
Encompassing a ‘one size fits all’ education is one of the biggest disabilities served to our special needs students.

Regardless of where your student’s K-12 years were spent, with the enacted HR5, S1177, and the upcoming re-authorized HEA (Higher Education Act), ALL students will enter the TSP  (Talent Supply Pipeline).

Common Core's famous for stating it can have our students 'college ready', now it claims 'career ready', too.
Common Core’s famous for stating it can have our students ‘college ready’, now it claims ‘career ready’, too.

Much evidence has been produced to show exactly how private, faith-based, and home educational choices are ALREADY being aligned to the CCSS Machine. STOP the indoctrination, anti CC Warriors!

CommonCore-Equal-Fail
Lastly, Anti CC Warriors, let’s let Congress know we DON’T want our communities CCSS/CTE/CCR aligned!

An aligned collective community?! Is this really what CCSSO has begun? Common Core is entrenched in this, folks.
An aligned collective community?! Is this really what CCSSO has begun?
