May We Move On?

Ahh…summer is quickly approaching, anti Fed Ed Warriors. In some States, EOGs/EOCs have all been taken; graduations completed. In others, this season is upon them. Social media’s been flooded with proud parents and teachers showing off Johnny and Suzy’s rites of passage.

Pardon me, if I’m a bit melancholy. You see, I’d LIKE to feel great for these young people about to set foot into the next chapter of their lives. I’d LIKE to know they would be able to be free enough to be who they WANT to be. Maybe it’s the research, maybe it’s the evidence. I’m not sure. Somewhere in all that I’ve uncovered about the CCSS Machine’s grasp on our nation, I am finding my mom’s heart is troubled for yet another graduating class. I’m a bit angry, a bit sad.

Why? Warriors, thanks to the modern education reform, what you see below IS their future!

hebridge

Education in America was never supposed to be about streamlining our students for adherence to one way to learn/think/act or believe. It was never supposed to be about chucking academics out the door and replacing learning with skill based, workforce ready competencies. It’s purpose was not supposed to dishonor all the different choices of HOW to educate, either. But, again, thanks to the modern education reform via ESSA’s (Every Student Succeeds Act) mandates, EVERY education choice will face the bridge you see above.

No, education was supposed to gift our students with how to think, NOT what to think.
Education is a NOT a business to be micromanaged! Being educated is a privilege. Being a teacher is a gift. Neither should be governmentally over-regulated….EVER!

iceburg

Think about it Warriors, every single time the government (and, yes, include the P3s, public private partnerships) has taken natural privileges and gifts away and replaced them with man-made rights and programs with strings to give you something.

What happens? Is the results BETTER than before? Absolutely not! Every single time, what the government takes away and ‘re-gifts’ Americans is sub-par. Where there was a natural flow before, now there’s a dam.

History is a clear marker of the assault on many citizens in this regard. Voltaire’s quote below pretty much illustrates the shift in education, thanks to the modern educational reform from the CCSS Machine.

Voltairequote

So, Warriors, how shall we move on? How shall we continue to fight against all that is seeking to rob our students? How may we rise against the national changes we are seeing?

1) We need to remember some ‘leaders’ have not led us well. They have led us astray.
While some ‘leaders’ have clearly sold out to the CCSS Machine, not all have.
We must work with those leaders who are like-minded.
Our ‘leaders’ are merely representing us in their positions of power. They are not mega-lords or demi-gods. Stop treating them as such. Holding their ‘feet to the fire’ is not mean, it’s necessary.
Respect doesn’t mean bowing down, it means being firm and standing up.

2) Remember for whom we fight to protect. This War isn’t for our glory and fame; it’s for preserving freedom for the next generations.

3) Use the summer to catch up on what’s going on in your environment. This is not the time to be an ostrich, Warriors! We know, come the fall of 2017, more over-reach and over-regulations will hit us all. We also know that the CCSS Machine doesn’t slow down just because of summer vacations. We also know that the reform is NOT just for one type of educational choice or grade level. It is a purposed intention to impact ALL choices and EVERY grade level.

Resources to use to sharpen your Warrior mindsets:

1) The 4 part video series by FPE Media. Suitable for all educational choices, but mainly for those outside the public system. Make no mistake, there is MUCH for public education Warriors within the content. Use them in small group settings, watch; discuss; formulate what actions your group wishes to put in place.

Part One addresses the purposed shift as illustrated by the bridge graphic above.
The remaining 3 portions will fit underneath the water line in the iceberg graphic above.

Part Two reveals what you may know or may need to know about data mining as the ‘cash cow’ by which ‘education’ has become.
Part Three addresses the purposed fallacy behind ‘school choice’ as being played out in real time in DC.
Part Four exposes the exclusion of parent participation and how ‘local control’ of education is far from locally decided.
(*Note: a follow up to the FPE Media series is in the works.)

2) Re-examine your position in the War Vs the Core. Maybe it’s time to step beyond where you are right now. Is there more you can do? Is there an area you need to release? Are there others you’ve been working with who will take what you release? Are you seeking others to work with? Is it time to step from attending the school board meetings and speak at them? Are you thinking of serving on the school board or a State level education related position? This War cannot be won from the outside-in, exclusively. We need to consider infiltration. Why not?! The CCSS Machine hasn’t hesitated to infiltrate our school boards and State level offices!

Closing:

Warriors, our road ahead is long. We all need to be sharply focused and ‘at the ready’ for what’s before us. Rest a bit, regroup; but do not give up. Do not give in. We are the only ones our children will be able to trust.

Who Doesn’t Love Coupons?!

Warriors, if you haven’t noticed, lately there has been plenty of conversation about ‘education savings accounts’. Sometimes these are referred to as ‘vouchers’.

For this article, we’ll refer to them as ‘coupons’. Why? Think about the way in which coupons work. Companies offer discounts in order to grab your attention. Once they’ve succeeded grabbing your attenion, you do one of two things. 1) Use the coupon as soon as possible. 2) You put the coupon with the others you are saving until you go shopping again.
It’s the ‘get something for almost nothing’ mindset. Face it, we love to save money. We love to THINK we are saving money while getting that ‘must have’ item or service. Regardless what name is slapped on ‘education savings accounts’, they are no more than a glorified coupon to sway you and your family!

Think about it, Warriors, why do we need so many legislators and educrats telling us we need MORE choices in education?! We already have PLENTY of choice! Homeschooling, private schools, faith-based schools, and. public schools have been around for generations. THEY are NOT new choices. Charter schools, however, are a newer choice than previous ones. Micro-schools, alternative schools, and skill based schools are also newer choices.
How? Every one of them is a product of the CCSS Machine! We’ve known for a few years now, how the CCSS Machine has wrecked public education, infiltrated home and private education. It’s a no-brainer to see that the goal is one type of education IN ALL schools is what the CCSS Machine is steering the nation to.

***By listening to the legislators and educrats telling us what to think when it comes to our tax dollars and how to spend them, we have chosen to not think for ourselves.***

The ‘coupon’ those in charge want to give us when it comes to education, is bogus. It’s false advertising. You won’t be saving anything if you take the coupon!! Just the opposite, you will be selling out. You will be giving the CCSS Machine a foot in the door to your family’s home.

**You will have given your most precious possession, your actual freedom of choice, away for mere dollars.**

What’s troubling is the fact that many of the well organized, well known groups which stood beside us in fighting Common Core, have abandoned us to come out in full support of ‘school choice’. In fact, some of these groups have been building ‘education savings accounts’ rhetoric for quite awhile.

Sure, the liberal thinkers LOVE ‘choice’. “Choice” means ‘selection’. So, the liberals are telling us their ‘coupons’ will give you, the coupon holder, something you’ve never had access to before…a supposedly better selection in education for your children. The conservative thinkers, likewise, LOVE ‘choice’ as well. They, also LOVE to offer a better way for you to have that ‘choice’. Enter the ‘education savings accounts’ or ‘vouchers’. Either way, they are actually ‘permission slip coupons’ using YOUR tax dollars. Think of it as “Mother, May I?”

mayi

**Warriors, we all have had access to all the types of education out there. We choose every day our children have gone to school, where that location is. Countless sacrifices have been made by plenty of parents to make their choices. The government’s solution of handing you a ‘coupon’ to exercise your choice is DANGEROUS!**

When we accept the ‘coupon’ premise of education savings accounts, we are accepting the following:
1) setting our children up for more data mining
2) allowing the government control where it has no right to control
3) opening the door to being accountable to the government in ways we’ve never been before
4) helping the restructing of our nation happen in our neighborhoods
5) letting our freedom be taken openly and willingly

WHY would we EVER choose these?!

Do NOT let our legislators misguide you in the frenzy around this “in the news” topic.

Current Federal Legislation For Education Savings Accounts Or ‘Coupons’:

(Note: all of these have been introduced in their Chambers, are in Committees, and will impact all education choices, including home education!) All references to ESSA will be from the Final Conference Report version (easier to read). The Final Conference Report is word for word in the ESSA Final Law.

HR610To distribute Federal funds for elementary and secondary education in the form of vouchers for eligible students and to repeal a certain rule relating to nutrition standards in schools.” Short title, “Choices in Education Act 2017”.

The ‘coupon’s’ fine print: “SENSE OF CONGRESS.—It is the sense of Congress that States should distribute non-Federal funds for elementary and secondary education in a manner that promotes competition and choices in education.”

Warriors, Congress should not exercise their sense in this manner! With all education choices learning and teaching  the same things, there will be NO competition!

Don’t believe me? Refer to the language of Every Student Succeeds Act’s pages 33 (where LEAs will use those state awarded funds to align all educational choices to the ‘industry recognized credentialing system’ set forth by the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) of 2014!); 48, (where it is stated that all education must be streamlined); 323, 780 and 781 (where all teachers will be trained to teach to post-secondary readiness, especially dual enrolled, concurrent enrolled, and early college students. (Related is Page 344, where the education will be ‘region specific’ as well as ‘post secondary ready’.)

HR716: Enhancing Educational Opportunities for all Students Act
The ‘coupon’s’ fine print,
“To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to encourage the use of 529 plans and Coverdell education savings accounts, and for other purposes.”

Warriors, this one is a ‘special coupon’ in that it impacts pre-Kindergarteners, elementary, and secondary students.

HR675: Empowering Parents to Invest in Choice Act of 2017
The ‘coupon’s’ fine print:
“To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to expand the coverage of qualified tuition programs and increase the limitation on contributions to Coverdell education savings accounts.”

Warriors, anytime the federal government increases or expands, especially in education, we’ve seen disasterous results! Take into considertion the mess the federal government has created when it decided to get in the student loan business and wiped out all private competition!

HR529: “529 and ABLE Account Improvement Act of 2017”
(*Note: ABLE stands for ‘Achieving a Better Life Experience’. While ABLE accounts are designed for people with disabilites and related expenses, this Act crosses over into education.)

The ‘coupon’s’ fine print:EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS TO QUALIFIED TUITION PROGRAMS AND QUALIFIED ABLE PROGRAMSTAX CREDIT FOR SMALL EMPLOYER COSTS OF ESTABLISHING DIRECT PAYROLL DEDUCTION INTO QUALIFIED TUITION PROGRAMS AND QUALIFIED ABLE PROGRAMS.”

Warriors, this is the first ‘coupon’ where you will see the involvement of private businesses enter education. We’ve seen the damage this partnership has given us in education, thanks to the CCSS Machine already. Yet, ESSA embeds even more of the P3s (public-private partnership)! For example, straight from the language on “P. 137,The LEAs determine how students transition from one grade group to the next (including post-secondary) with the help of P3s (Public Private Partnerships) and ‘other stakeholders in education’.”

S148: Educational Opportunities Act
The ‘coupon’s’ fine print: “TAX CREDIT FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCHOLARSHIP GRANTING ORGANIZATIONS” Then, there’s this,
“to participate in the evaluation conducted by the Institute of Education Science (IES) under section 2(d) of the Educational Opportunities Act..”

Warriors, the data collected in relation to the scholarships will be shared by the IES. IES works with a plethora of data miners! The IES is also in the language of ESSA.

S235: CHOICE Act or ““Creating Hope and Opportunity for Individuals and Communities through Education Act”

The ‘coupon’s’ fine print: “The purpose of this title is to provide options to States to innovate and improve the education of children with disabilities by expanding the choices for students and parents under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act..”

Warriors, from the language of ESSA’s Final Conference Report, ” P. 50, Special needs students who have benefited from IDEA funding/programs and seek higher education ‘on track with alternative aligned courses/assessments’.”

S221: A PLUS Act,”A bill to allow a State to submit a declaration of intent to the Secretary of Education to combine certain funds to improve the academic achievement of students”
Short title, “Academic Partnerships Lead Us to Success Act”

The ‘coupon’s’ fine print: Those authorizing the declaration are to be:“(A) The governor of the State. (B) The highest elected education official of the State, if any. (C) The legislature of the State.”
What’s in the declaration? “Each State is authorized to submit to the Secretary a declaration of intent permitting the State to receive Federal funds on a consolidated basis to manage the expenditure of such funds to advance the educational policy of the State.” Then, there’s this: “Removal of fiscal and accounting barriers.–Each State educational agency that operates under a declaration of intent under this Act shall modify or eliminate State fiscal and accounting barriers that prevent local educational agencies and schools from easily consolidating funds from other Federal, State, and local sources in order to improve educational opportunities and reduce unnecessary fiscal and accounting requirements.”

Warriors, if the States are to have full control of education, why is this Bill revealing that States will be allowed to do something? Why is it suggesting the elimination of state agencies? Why does it state ‘advancing educational policy’ and not law? Policies are NOT laws! Laws must be carried out, policies, especially in education, have been taken over by the CCSS Machine!! There is quite a bit more about A PLUS you should read and consider the ‘unintended consequences’!

Warriors, help me share the truth about school choice via the education savings accounts! You see how the dots have been connected. If you need more evidence about how false these accounts are:

Return these ‘coupons’ to Congress! We don’t want them.

The School Board Special, Part One

Against-Common-Core-and-Vote

This Weekend News begins a special series for all those ‘anti CCSS Machine Warriors’ out there running for their school boards this election year. No matter if it is a local school board race or a state-wide race, this compendium is for you!!

If you should have an issue you would like more information on and you do NOT see it below, please do not HESITATE to let me know how I may help your campaign. Why would I do this? I want to support each of you as best as I can with information you can use to stand for a school system FREE from the CCSS Machine and ALL its overreaches into birth to pre-K, pre-K to K, K-12, community colleges, public and private colleges and universities, for profit post-secondary schools (proprietary), and any OTHER place Common Core (or as it’s new buzz phrase is known as “College and Career Readiness”) is found!

As the first in this series of articles, I would like to  devote them to these brave men and women who are seeking office for the RIGHT reasons! 1) To be a child’s hero; 2) to stand for the Constitutionally protected state sovereignty where education is concerned; and 3) to wipe out the CCSS Machine’s grasp on their local community and/or State!

Birth to Pre-K, Pre-K to K:

As we have seen and heard, NO age group, nor educational choice will be free from the illegally based (and now, rubber stamped via the ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act) educational reform begun by the CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative). My fellow anti CCSS Warrior from CA (Lydia Gutierrez) has a great Facebook post from 2014 which details Sen. Lamar Alexander’s plan to grab our students from birth and track them to career.
Why would I mention Sen. Alexander? He is one of the main sponsors of the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). His plan from way back when, just got a HUGE advancement via the ESSA! To see Lydia’s post: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10152814417575498&id=226850210497 (*Note it has the embedded You Tube video from the 1980s where Alexander speaks his ‘Orwellian plan’ for our students.)

To see the birth to Pre-K plans via the ESSA from the Final Conference Report (that mammoth 1,061 page booger):
Section 2223 which begins on Page 373 and details “Subgrants to eligible entities in support of birth through kindergarten entry literacy.”.
Leading up to Section 2223, the following pages are also of great importance:
1) Page 365 where you can see how LEAs (Local Educational Agents) will encompass birth through 12th grade literacy, early childhood education programs including home based literacy programs, and more.
2) Page 370 where you will find percentages of funding the states are to have for any program or activity to ready birth through Kindergarten for school.
3) The bottom of Page 370 and into 371 where you will see birth to 5 years programs for low income families targeted.
4) Page 372 states the following for those teaching our youngest students: “Coordinating with institutions of  higher education in the State to provide recommendations to strengthen and enhance pre-service courses for students preparing to teach children from birth through grade 12 in explicit, systematic, and intensive instruction in  evidence-based literacy methods.”
5) Page 374 will show you how ‘data analysis’ will be used in regards to birth through kindergarten entry.
6) Page 375 details the assessments of the birth to kindergarten for the sake of successful entry into school.
7) That damnable educratic, pro Common Core term ‘pipeline’ (in reference to our students) is used on Page 600. “PIPELINE SERVICES.—The term ‘pipeline services’ means a continuum of coordinated supports, services, and opportunities for children from birth through entry into and success in postsecondary education, and career attainment. Such services shall include, at a minimum, strategies to address through services or programs (including integrated student supports) the following:  ‘‘(A) High-quality early childhood education programs.” (*Note: There is more, but you need to read it for yourselves.)
8) Page 615 will focus on the children (from birth) in the lowest income cities with a continuum of ‘high quality’ services. While this may not be a terrible thing, consider that further down the page, the data collection and reporting of said data goes to the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Secretary!
9) The homeless children’s lack of records will also be included in all this new education reform. See Pages 881, 889,  and 900.
10) Page 959, The States are to keep parents up to date on all the ‘mixed delivery systems’ of programs for birth to kindergarten entry level.
110 Lastly, on Page 967, you will need to know that the States will be assessing the families for successful improvement among  family members.

If you do not have access to the Final Report: ESSA FINAL CONFRPT_112915

In the much shorter U.S. Law version of the ESSA (391) pages, you will find Section 2223 is still the same. Page numbers, however, will be different. To find where the students from ‘birth’ and up are mentioned, see: 136, 138 (twice), 139 (5 times), 140, 223, 238, 326, 329, 333, 354, and 357. Each of the topics found in the Final Report have made their way into the Law version. To access the Law version: Finalessa.391pages

As Far As My Research, I Would Like to Offer You:

Zero to Three Common Core which has received the American Academy of Pediatrics backing as well as a major insurance company (MetLife)! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/07/04/sic-em-saturday-pint-sized-common-core/
What you, as a candidate, need to know about this article: Look to your area’s Early Head Start Program; that each of the 50 States has a ‘Baby Fact Sheet’; that some States (especially those deemed as successes with their Race to the Top funding) have a ‘Preschool Development Grant’ from the U.S. Dept. of Education; that the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER), is backed, supported, and funded by some of the biggest names in the CCSS Machine!

Then here is my article pertaining to the massive amounts of research being conducted on our youngest students in the name of education. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/10/ftf-prek-research-ccss-cbe/
What you, as a candidate, need to look for from this article: Your state’s funding and use of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and how CCSS has got its grasp on this money; how competency based education (is largely workforce based learning in nature) is being designed for our little people in the classrooms and related programs; how our youngsters are bringing shaped into BRICKS (I kid you not), and more!

How will the birth to pre-K and kindergartners figure into the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014) which is also expressly tied via the language of the ESSA (as law)?! See my article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/05/essa-ties-to-wioa-2014-and-new-citizens/
What you, as a candidate, need to know from this article: Those ‘sub grants’ for ELA (English Language Arts) are to be used so that EVERY student, including these younger ones, will be in line for the cradle to career education;  how the language shift FROM “Common Core State Standards” TO ‘Challenging State Academic Standards’ is not only more of the same education reform, but will have massive amounts of money attached!

Encompassed into the Promise Neighborhoods and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and/or Community Schools will be not only the youngest learners, but the ENTIRE family! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/08/17/supportive-acts-to-back-initiative/
What you, as a candidate, need to know: That while the Promise Neighborhoods is NOT a new piece of legislation, HOW it is included in the ESSA is new! Those 21st Century Community Learning Centers (which can also sometimes be referred to by a number of catchy names) are part of a White House Initiative, as well as a P3 (public-private partnership) effort to have entire communities aligned to the Common Core State Standards Initiative.  To see that information and to learn more: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/fom-friday-knowledgeworks-or-knowledge-quirks/ (*Note: This article lays out for you the cradle to career aligned community network already in place across America.)

CLOSING:

No matter where you are in America, the ESSA, the CCSS Machine, the Initiative and agenda behind Common Core, is going to continue to wreck our nation! This is just a look at a FEW of the researched pieces of evidence I have concerning birth through Kindergarten. Take the time to read each article, investigate for yourselves the reports, links, and programs featured. Ask LOTS of questions, be ferocious in your campaigns! Our children, our schools, and our nation are MUCH too precious to not protect. Part 2 of this series will address K-12 education.

Weekend News for the Anti CCSS Warriors

Like cookies shaped in a certain way, we are seeing our nation similarly shaped to CCSS's mold.
Like cookies shaped in a certain way, we are seeing our nation similarly shaped to CCSS’s mold.

Greetings, Warriors. As we all have seen by now, the media has put its spin on the recently signed new law known as ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). We have seen legislators released statements claiming victory, too.

Warriors, we have led the charge across the nation to point to the language of the new law, as well as other aspects of this CCSS based education reform. We, more than likely, have even had some of our family, friends, neighbors, and nay-sayers buy into the false claims being so rampantly spread since the rushed hack job in D.C. occurred.

My fellow Warriors, we CANNOT give up, I’ve stated this in previous posts. Other anti CCSS Warriors, as well as others who have been fighting, have also repeated this truth. It is only since the ESSA was signed that I have been contacted with folks who have not been aware up until now, that they, too, want to know what is in the law’s language which will point them to the ‘untold’ items embedded that will further the CCSS Machine’s alignment of American education.

As in other previously published posts, I have shared with you the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) embedded ties, the CTE (Career Tech Education, which is an adult version of the CCSS) embedded ties. I haven’t stopped digging through this new law’s language.

Why would I do this? Isn’t it a moot point now? NO!! As I have shared with you in the past, the more we know what is embedded, and will be enacted in each of our states, the more we can raise awareness to the CCSS aligned efforts! The more we can have the proof to show others that all is NOT what has been ‘sold’ to them via all those pro CCSS spins we have seen in the past few days. It is STILL very important to know that what is taking those of us still combing through the language (which our legislators should of done BEFORE voting on it) many hours to complete, we will discover the truth and share it. However, when we share the truth, we must be careful HOW we share it. It would be a great idea to have the portions of the mammoth document with what you are sharing highlighted. It would be even more helpful when you share those highlighted sections, that you have any other documents which support your points of concern. It certainly will help when pointing out a law that is violated, or a state statute which is being violated. Remember, if we are to continue to fight, we must fight well; with the right information given at the correct time. Otherwise, our very valid points will miss their mark.

All this being said, what do I have to share with you this weekend which will help? Read on, my Warriors!

The ESSA Document:

If you have not been able to access the final confirmation report which the Senate and House voted on to advance the ESSA to the President’s desk, here it is:
ESSA FINAL CONFRPT_112915

If you have not ever searched through a massive amount of information in a pdf file, like this, here are 2 pointers:
a) Look at the top of the pdf and see if you can locate the magnifying glass emblem. If so, click on that to enter a word or phrase you are seeking. (For example, when I wrote the first article featuring each page number you could find “Workforce” used in the ESSA, this was a tool that made wading through over 1,000 pages quicker. I simply got each page number, then went back to read the context the term was used in).

b) If you cannot find the magnifying glass, use your ‘control’ key and the “F” key at the same time. You should be able to see a search box appear. The ‘previous’ and ‘next’ tabs will help you jump forward or backward to where the term you are searching for appears. Again, once you have the page numbers, go back and read the context.

The White House’s Official ESSA Report:

In very rapid response to the ESSA being signed into law, the White House has released an official report. The report is slam full of all the (by now) well publicized pro CCSS points. Why? We must remember, all the CCSS alignment fits right into the White House’s education reform. By using a pro CCSS document (as I have done many times), you can easily locate the fallacies, as well as see how slick the agenda to reform American education is being packaged.
To access the WH(White House)  ReportESSA_Progress_Report
For example, when you read this report, you will find ‘new incentives’ for each of our states. Specifically, page 9, second bullet point states “Develop, refine, and replicate innovative and ambitious reforms to close the achievement gap in America’s schools, similar to the Administration’s existing i3 program.” From this statement, look at the language closely. Almost immediately, you will see ‘reform’; ‘achievement gap’; but, the biggest phrase which should jump out at you, is the ‘Administration’s existing i3 program‘. What is the ‘i3 program’? I am so glad you asked!! The i3 ‘program’ has roots in the RttT (Race to the Top) and is short for “Investing in Innovation”. This ‘i3’ is only one portion of the “Reform for the Future” agenda the White House is pushing. To see the website where you can learn all about the Reform:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/education/reform
(*Note: when you access this website, be sure to click on the highlighted blue words, there you will find reports, initiatives, and more. Note how you see STEM, Promise Neighborhoods, etc…these, too, are all part of the pro CCSS alignment in American education)
Before I leave this Report, did you notice the presence of RttT? Didn’t we hear speeches passionately given when ESSA became law that RttT waivers were a thing of the past? Yet here, we see the RttT is still in play in a new way! That should be a big piece of evidence to use from a state level point of view.

A New Search Term for ESSA:

Knowing I had already used ‘Workforce’ and similar terms, I wanted to see what the search of the ESSA’s confirmation language would bring me with the term ‘alignment’.
Here is what I found:
Page 48: aligning challenging state academic standards (CSAS) to meet post secondary credit bearing parameters (we’ll need to see how the HEA (Higher Education Act‘s re-authorized language spells this out, but from my research, CCSS/CTE has its firm grasp on post-secondary education already)
Page 65: alignment of ELA (English Language Arts)
Page 207: twice ‘alignment’ is used in relation to assessments and CSAS
Page 216: also twice used concerning LEAs (local education agencies) and state grants for assessments
Page 502: OBE (outcome based education) used to evaluate and align academics
Page 508: alignment used in relation to assessments and data mining for CSAS
Pages 759-766: several uses of alignment and/or realignment in regards to LEAs and military bases
Page 970: what groups are limited in alignment activities in education
Page 1034: improving states alignment of their assessments

Closing:

What you can expect from me in the very near future posts is this: more documents which you can use to see how, now more than ever, we need the information of the roots planted BEFORE ESSA was enacted as the educational law of the land. Why? If you listened closely to both the celebratory speeches of Senators Alexander and Murray, they revealed the ESSA was not a few months in the making, but 5 years! Many of the documents the White House Report (see above) are anywhere from 2010 to today.  However, many are featured by the WH, you can bet there are plenty more NOT featured. Have no fear, Warriors, I have quite a few we can glean from.

Monday Musings: CCSS’s Twelve Pains of Christmas

CCSS,Not worthy of anything more than a lump of hard, cold, and dirty coal.
CCSS,Not worthy of anything more than a lump of hard, cold, and dirty coal.

Anti CCSS Warriors, in the recent days, we have heard the words straight from Congress how the newly passed ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is a ‘Christmas present’ to the children of America. I could NOT disagree more, as I am sure you share this viewpoint.

We, the anti CCSS Warriors,  have uncovered just how MUCH the ESSA will continue the following ‘Christmas presents’:
1)  embedding more CCSS (just under a different name),
2) aligning states to MORE federal control (under the misinformation about state grants),
3) controlling the data collection and sharing of such data with 3rd parties who have NO business with our students’ private information,
4) streamlining education to fit a workforce (WIOA, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) agenda
5) unfairly assimilating ALL education choices
6) embedding MORE CTE (Career Tech Education), STEM, etc.
7) forcing educators to receive inappropriate leadership training(ie: Public, private partnerships (p3s)
And so much more!!

Below, is an article I wrote one year ago today, (12/15/14) and can still be said today (12/15/15). Sadly, much in this information below is just as relevant today, as it was a year ago. So much for a ‘gift that keeps on giving’, huh?

The Original Post:

“It’s mere days before those of us who choose to celebrate Christmas will do so. In today’s Musings we’re taking a pithy look at the Common Core, Diva style. The inspiration? “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, that classic song. In the recent past a satire of the song by Bob Rivers, re-titled it “The Twelve Pains of Christmas”. I’m going a step further and applying it to CCSS. Hope you like it!

The First Pain to Me About CCSS:

The illegality of it all. This Grinch-worthy move is, to me, the worst of the offenses. It mocks our liberty, it trashes the U.S. Constitution, and it’s a sham! However, unlike the Grinch, who realized his errors and gave back, CCSS does nothing of the sort. It continues to suck the life out of everything it touches except the deep pockets of the liars, cheats, and thieves of education.

The Second Pain to Me About CCSS:

The deception game people play with our students. This ’emperor’s-new-clothes’ style of leadership is only useful for one thing…making an absolute fool out of our nation. It angers our citizens and drains our students. Want truth, goodness, peace, and light in your life? You won’t get it with CCSS.

The Third Pain to Me About CCSS:

Sacrificing quality in exchange for conformity. The blanket assumptions of ‘rigor’, ‘clear and concise’, and all those other educractic, obtuse, doublespeak phrases we’ve come to shudder when we hear them. We know every time we hear them, somewhere, someone’s education has been compromised from one of quality to that of conformity.

The Fourth Pain to Me About CCSS:

‘Facts’ that lie, like ‘CCSS is only impacting K-12 public schools’; “They are just Standards!” BAHHH!! Humbug! Statements like this are usually delivered with a smile, a joke that’s used to deflect the seriousness, or in a ‘myth vs. fact’ debate. How dumb does the pro side of CCSS think I am?

bahumbug

The Fifth Pain to Me About CCSS:

Profits for those most undeserving. Money made at the cost of our students minds, attitudes, and hearts. Funds pouring in off the teachers, principals, and parents hard earned paychecks. I truly hope those profiting choke on all that gold…may it be known forever more as ‘fool’s gold’.

foolgold

The Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Pains to Me About CCSS:

Three words: High. Stakes. Assessments. All the data mining that accompanies each. What an invasion of all that’s good, decent, private, and upstanding. If I want folks to know something about me, they need only ask, not spy on me, look at my test answers, or access my high tech devices. I also despise that those with the knowledge to do these type of things are using them for ill purposes and not something more worthy. I hope each of you receives the “Darwin” award for life wasted!

wasted

The Ninth Pain to Me About CCSS:

Public Private Partners who think they know better than educators how to run schools. P3s is their other name. By minding everybody’s business but their own, they’ve made mountains out of molehills. And to think, most of those responsible are overseeing million dollar industries. Makes me seriously wonder how they can be so smart and so clueless.

The Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Pains to Me About CCSS:

Three more words: Killing. Great. Minds. No matter if it is the student in the school, the staff at the school, or the community at large, we all lose greatness when CCSS is allowed to continue. We lose valuable minds by continuing to see CCSS and all that goes with it grow. We’ve literally seen how the outcomes can kill some kids. Throw in how CCSS has killed a love for learning; killed the importance of reading for fun; killed the rich and storied history of not just our world, but of our nation, and there you have it…

Common Core Diva’s 12 Pains About CCSS!

So, CCSS, delivering your lump of coal won’t be Santa, it’ll be from folks like me who are ready to see you go!”

Closing:

Warriors, with these type of educational ‘presents’, we need to stay sharp in the new year (2016), we need to be focused as to where each of the ways the ‘presents’ will be enacted in our states.

I will be taking  an extended break from writing and blogging from 12/16/15 to 1/2/16. While I will not be blogging, I will continue my research into the aspects of the ESSA I have told you I would continue. I will also be re-visiting the other information and updating it, as I have also told you I would. I wish each of you a blessed Christmas/holiday season. We have much to do in 2016!
