Expanding ESSA

Anti Fed Ed Warriors,

Just when we thought ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) couldn’t get any MORE nanny-state like, a new House of Representatives bill comes along to blow that right out of the water. I’m talking about HR 804. As the language of the Bill introduces it, ‘to amend the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965)’.

monopolists

Why does DC continue to refer to ESSA’s former name and not use its current one? The answer is simple, everything in ESEA was codified in ESSA’s ‘update’, so that means every bit of NCLB (No Child Left Behind), RttT (Race to the Top), and everything which binds it all up in one stinky package is STILL in place!

HR 804, Transition to Success Mentoring Act:
(Bill link)
As the summary states it, Warriors, this Bill will give grant money to eligible groups to establish or expand school based mentoring for ‘at-risk’ middle school students heading to high school.  Sounds great, right? Look between the lines, my friends.
a) ‘At risk’ is the ESSA/ESEA label for any student outside a government determined set of parameters.
b) ‘At risk’ is nebulous on purpose. It’s a back door way to ensnare homeschool students, students who don’t fit in, students who are homeless, and so on.
c) ‘Eligible groups’ doesn’t mean at school, it means any of the ESSA/ESEA mandated P3s (public private partnerships) which qualify for predetermined government assigned parameters. Look at some of the after school groups and their ideals/morals. Are these really the people you want mentoring your child? Why is the government overreaching into the middle school to high school transition, anyway? Those sensitive years should be the parents responsibility, NOT the federal nannies!
d) “Mentoring” is a safe word for behavior interventions and mental health overreaches.

Think I’m overreacting? Let’s see…

This mentoring bill is sponsored by Rep. Carson (IN). It has 3 co-sponsors, Soto (FL), Moore (WI), and, Norton (DC). Below, is a screen shot of Rep. Carson’s website statement on education.

(Source)

Warriors, if you are curious, Mr. Carson’s 2nd top campaign donor was Eli Lilly and Company. Eli Lilly has a powerful lobbying effort in DC for all kinds of health related items, including well adjusted youth. If you’d like to read up on the Eli Lilly Indiana SEL (Social Emotional Learning) mental health/mentoring grabs, visit their “Strengthening Students’ Pathways” page.

**Warriors, this isn’t the first time counselors have been assimilated into the CCSS Machine. Before Pres. Obama left office, he started the School Counselor alignment through an initiative which was to use these school staff members as salespeople for workforce aligned career tracks.

Why bring that up now? The ESSA re-authorization of ESEA mandated that ALL education be aligned to post-secondary readiness for workforce aligned education. The SEL shift we’ve seen plays right into the ‘readiness’ in several ways. Especially under the guise of forcing students to be emotionally ‘ready’ before they naturally mature. ESSA also handled this shift in a variety of other mandates, specifically expanded school staff for behavior management and mental health services.

Mentoring falls under BOTH of these categories!!

HR804

What Else HR 804 Does:

Warriors, from this 10 page bill, if made into federal law would use an increased amount of taxpayer funds for ‘prevention and intervention’ for students who are ‘at risk’, ‘neglected’ or/and ‘delinquent’.

Side Notes:**Since more and more States are having to dance to the federal ESSA tunes, this is where home education will be hit hard. How? States are introducing legislation to classify homeschoolers as ‘neglected’ or somehow ‘at risk’. IL has HB 3560; PJMedia also has a report on this Bill. Be sure to read the article and comments. NV reports some dire issues with freedom to homeschool there; IL has a 2nd bill which will lump homeschoolers into the CCSS Machine, then there’s CA. (The NV report will include some information on the CA overreaches.) GA is also considering clamping down on home education. TX is pushing an entire mental health hub system for ALL students via SB 10 and HB 1448. MN has a record 6 bills which seek to rip families apart with all the mentoring/mental health birth to 5 overreaches.

As you can see the WHO’s idea of mental health overreaches mirrors that of America’s!

*Federal Bill HR 804’s price tag is $50 million for FY 2020 alone. Fiscal years after that will be as much as Congress believes mentoring needs.
*As usual, Congress has created a bill, that if turned into law, gives the Secretary of Education MORE power.
*Any group (including a school) must submit an application to receive grant money. Anything the Secretary deems necessary, as far as information (aka: data), applicants must supply.
*Awarded grants MUST be used in mandated ways as laid out in HR 804:

*HR 804 allows for hiring coaches, but doesn’t say what limitations or requirements these coaches are to have.
*Grants are to be used for 5 years or less.
*Reports of what number of students, their academic data, how many hours were spent between Coaches and their students, and anything else the Secretary of Education deems as necessary to evaluate ‘success’. By the end of the 3rd fiscal year, the Secretary must pass data to the Congress. By the end of the 5th year, Congress will make a final report.
*“At risk students are defined by grade point averages (2.0 or below) or has been deemed as ‘at risk for academic failure’ by parents, teachers, or other educational ‘experts’. At risk extends to those who want to drop out, may have substance issues, be pregnant, been in trouble with the law, is a parent, doesn’t speak English well, is a gang member, or has been absent from school repeatedly. (a full description of ‘at risk’, eligible groups, are on Pages 7 and 8)

* Success Coaches are defined as anyone in school administration, from a community-school partnership or volunteer who wishes to serve. Service includes training and support. The training is to be at a minimum of 2 hours, have a screening (includes background check, child abuse, and job references).

Warriors, do you have as many warning bells going off in your heart and head as I do?

Closing:

As one of my dear anti Fed Ed Warriors, in ID has stated, this battle is ours to lose. We MUST speak out. Our naturally given parental responsibility as our child’s BEST mentor is under attack! Our naturally given parental choice to home education is also under attack. Will we remain passive while Rep. Carson backed by Eli Lilly;  while TX, GA, IL, NV, CA and other States ursurp our power to nurture our children.
HR 804 expands ESSA in harmful ways. We cannot allow this.

Anybody Got a Fan?!

My fellow anti CCSS/Fed Ed/ESSA Warriors. I’ve recently finished combing through the NC Draft ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Plan. I’m not a fan of what I read. If your State has released a draft, please get your hands on the information! NC’s is a whopping 145 pages of anything and everything connected to education…and the workforce. I looked up our neighboring State (SC). Theirs is 84 Pages.

I did try to find some other neighboring State’s ESSA Plans as well. Why? I was curious to see just how unique each Plan is shaping up to be. After all, we’ve been told time and time again, ESSA returns control of education back to the States. (*Note: if you’ve followed my blog for a long time, you know how full of BS what we’ve been told is.)

I did see some of the same things in SC’s Plan that I saw in NC’s. Coincedence, no!
Both contain the federal level requirements each State must adhere to.

For example, what type of graduates each State will have. Below is SC’s:

scessaplan
You can find the legislation which made this Profile a SC State Law:

To see and study SC’s ESSA Planhttp://ed.sc.gov/newsroom/every-student-succeeds-act-essa/draft-consolidated-state-plan/

*******************************************************
By contrast, here is NC’s Graphic:

ncessaplan

If you have wondered why BOTH NC and SC have the 4Cs (Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication), it’s because the P21 (“Partnership for 21st Century Learning Skills”) has both NC/SC  as ‘member States'(along with several other States). *Noteworthy: The “Partnership” has been a CCSS Machine member group for quite a while.   On the http://www.P21.org website, you can find 50 College/Career Readiness resources. CCR (College and Career Readiness) is also another name for Common Core State Standards. CCR is embedded in ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) ) Find the resources here  **Be sure to look for the ‘grit’, ‘workforce readiness in middle school’, and, more.

From Page 25 of NC’s ESSA Draft Plan:

ncessaplan1By July of 2015, NC had a “The Constitutional Mandate to Provide an Opportunity to a Sound Basic Education: An Update and a Recommendation”. Oddly enough, this 2015 Mandate is NOT all that different from the current NC ESSA Plan which will be submitted to the U.S. Dept. of Education later in 2017. To see the mandate, click here. If you’d like to see NC S561, click here.  To see NC’s ESSA Plan
*********************************************************

What We Can Learn From Both NC And SC To Apply Elsewhere:

1) Both had the 5 or 6 federal mandates of ESSA laid out in their Plans.
{These will all be consistent with the Secretary of Education’s authority}:
a) Long-Term Education Goals
b) Consultation/Performance Management toward Long-Term Goals
c) Academic Assessments
d)  Accountability and Support for School Improvement
e) Supporting Excellent Educators
f) Supporting All Students

2) Both will continue education which aligns to College/Career Readiness (aka Common Core, Career Tech Education, etc.).

3) Both will continue to update OR create State-level laws to support the educational shift FROM academics to skill based workforce.

4) Both appear to have no plans to cut the ties with the CCSS Machine member organizations we find so entrenched in our lives. (Example: Pearson, P21, Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), etc.)

5) Both will continue to include non-educators in the education process.

6) Both will continue to see Workforce Education efforts and legislation.

7) Both will more than likely continue their membership statuses in P21, CCSSO, and the other CCSS Machine member groups steering the shift in education.

8) Both will continue to workforce skill based assesssments like ACT Aspire, WorkKeys, etc.

**BOTTOM LINE: None of the State ESSA Draft Plans will differ MUCH from what is in place now. What’s in place now IS CCSS/CCR/CTE aligned. It will stay that way, but be called “Challenging State Academic Standards”.
**************************************************

Other Things Of Note From NC’s Plan:
I wanted to leave you with some other key items of interest.

1) U.S. Dept. of Education’s Date Stamp: 12/22/16 (NC’s ESSA Draft Plan expires 11/30/19).

2) From Page 2, ESEA’s (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) Section 8302 sets out in that the U.S. Secretary of Education is permitted to establish procedures/criteria after consulting with the State officials. Our State Education Agency then submits the Plan. The Secretary must establish every program in Section 8302 including the State’s materials and resources for education. (*Note: ESEA’s Section 8302 is Optional Consolidated State Plans or Applications. ESSA’s Section 1005 is simply titled “State Plans”. Do not be fooled by the simple title.)

2a) Also on Page 2, every State’s Consolidated Education ESSA Plan must create 1 comprehensive way to improve ‘outomes’ for students.

2b) Included in Page 2’s language is that all State Plans must meet the requirements of Section 427 of the General Education Provisions Act. (See a screen shot below)

section427
3) From Page 3 of NC’s ESSA Plan, Only after the U.S. Dept. of Education approves a State Plan, will these Plans be made public. The preferred method for publicity is to be in a published form.

4) Page 4 reveals our State’s Director of Data, Research, and Federal Policy.

5) Page 17 shows the Federal Program for Monitoring and Support Division of the U.S. Dept. of Ed. From this Division, $463,000,000.00 in federal funds for annual grants are available to school districts. (Watch for an increase in data collection). Here in NC, a Senior Leader Council is used to determine which districts/schools receive our portion of these grants. Based on 3 prongs: i) our Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan; ii) to be used by LEAs, charter schools, and non-government organizations to receive competitive federal funds, and iii) the NC Equity Plan (from the NC Dept. of Public Instruction) for data collection.

6) Page 25 tells what is considered as ‘academic indicators’. These are also known as ‘measures’. In order: Academic Achievement, Academic Progress, Graduation Rates, English Language Proficiency, School Quality, and Student Success. Page 28 will show you how the ‘meaningful differentation’ used in these indicators simply means ‘distinct and discrete levels of school performance’. (*Note: the shift from student to the entire school being measured.)

7) Page 29, points you to the School Quality or Student Success indicators. They are, in order: chronic absences, attendance, student engagement, student’s participation in co-curricular activities, physical activity, student participation in the arts, suspensions, teacher engagement, parent involvement, End of Grade exams (or End of Course exams) only in science, the CCR Index (College and Career Readiness Index includes AP Courses, IB Courses, WorkKeys Assessments, ACT, and (here in NC) 5 Diploma Endorsements (these are Career and College, UNC College, NC Academic Scholar, and Global Language). From the bottom of Page 29 to the top of Page 30, this “all schools must be included in the accountability system.” What NC hasn’t figured out yet is HOW to update the indicators above for every school type. How well each State does with this determines the weight of the Success Indicator. Federal education code lays this out, NOT a State’s law!

8) Page 30 goes into the 95 % assessment participation rates as mandated in ESSA. How will the States factor this? What data mining/gathering procedures will be used? How will all the schools without sufficient data gathering, or alternative schools (K-12th) be accountable?

9) Page 33 uses a word we’ve all come to loathe: “rigor”. Yes, we’ll see more of it! However, it’s interesting that once again, it’s the ESEA cited here, NOT the ESSA. Related is Page 38 with its mention of NC’s love for UDL (Universal Design for Learning). According to NC, UDL helps ensure all students will be College and Career Ready.

10) Skipping ahead to Page 97 are the “Challenging State Academic Standards for Math” in NC. They will be the EXACT ones used in the 2016-17 academic year!! “Challenging State Academic Standards for English Language Arts”? They haven’t been released yet, as they are still being ‘written’.

A Bonus Item!! Way back in the pages of the NC ESSA Draft Plan is the gold mine of all those CCSS Machine friendly ‘stakeholders’ in education we have wondered about. Pages 137-140 reveal the ESSA external stakeholders in education. Some we know about (example: Teach for America). Some are a bit surprising to see (example: Americans for Prosperity, NC Branch).

Closing:

Warriors, I’ve laid large chunks of evidence before you to illustrate how much of a farce it seems to be that our States will get to control education in the manner in which it has been explained since ESSA was signed into federal law December 2015.

Please take what you see here, start looking at what your State is doing. How similar is it to what you see here? What has remained the same in your State’s education sytem, what has been updated? What groups are involved?

Bridges and Ladders

My Fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors,

In the above picture you see a classic example of a brilliant mind. Leonardo da Vinci’s “Revolving Bridge”.  He created this, and other bridges for military purposes. The bridges were light weight (easy to carry, travels well), they were sturdy (conveyed strength), and they lasted long periods of time.

I use this as an example, not to give you a history lesson, but to use it as an analogy for the webinar devoted to higher education.

During the CCSS Machine sponsored webinar, education bridges, ladders, and pathways were discussed. Much like Leonardo da Vinci’s “Revolving Bridge”, higher education is set to become transportable (easy to carry, travels well/stackable, chunkable certifications), sturdy with more ‘rigor’ (conveying strength), and lock in lifelong learning (lasts a long time).

The Webinar:

Hosted by Atlantic Live! (an arm of the publication, The Atlantic Magazine) Atlantic Magazine also has another arm, a project called “Next America”. If memory serves me correctly, the last time I wrote about “Next America”, Sen. Lamar Alexander was a featured speaker. If I’m thinking correctly it was the time period leading up to HR5 (Student Success Act) and S1177 (Every Child Achieves Act) were in the making. Of course, as history shows, HR5 and S1177 ‘married’ and gave us ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act.

Why do I bring this up? IF history is about to repeat itself, then Atlantic’s Next America having Rep. John Kline and other sold out CCSS Machine members gather to ‘discuss’ where higher education should go, we need to pay attention! Especially when your conversation guides are hand picked to feed the agenda of streamlining education to create a birth to grave education ladder or bridge.
hebridge

The image you see above is NOT from one of the CCSS Machine member organizations present at the webinar. But, it does give you a great idea how the webinar’s conversation was geared.

Lumina Foundation, the Gates Foundation, Next America, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and key members from SIGs (special interest groups) in higher education either had representative speak or they helped fund the production. Adding Rep. John Kline as the only federal Congress member was not a fluke. It was a strategic move. Kline admitted during the webinar that he had just come from breakfast with Sen. Lamar Alexander. You see, the two are partners in education demise.

Here’s the link to the webinar’s introduction page: http://www.theatlantic.com/live/events/the-changing-face-of-higher-education/2016/
(*Note: Archive version should be available soon. You can check out the Twitter account for more information, too. Use #NextAmerica)

The Biggest Warnings for Us:

1) The changes are coming, no doubt at all. The CCSS Machine has already begun turning the screws for higher education/post-secondary education. As I’ve shared with you many times, this is how EVERY citizen from ALL educational backgrounds will be funneled through the CCSS Machine. One of the choice terms for citizens during the webinar? “Human Capital”. The very first comment spoken by the Lumina Foundation’s education ‘expert’: “Post-secondary education MUST change.”

2) The CBE (competency based education), Career Pathways, MOOCs, digital learning, soft skills development, and more are the front runners for all the changes. New patterns, systems, and alignment are either in the works, or yet to be created. BUT, they will be added.
3) Purposed placement of school counselors in our K-12 systems are already identifying students who are ‘achievers’, tracks them, pulling them into a pathway to a baccalaureate degree in college (sometimes early college) via community colleges(which by the way, are Common Core, Career Tech aligned). Then, these graduates are funneled through to a 4 year institution. Look for “Pathways Colleges”. The example program given was “Pathway to Baccalaureate”. See: https://www.nvcc.edu/pathway/ (*Note: look for the ‘extraordinary pipeline to college’. Running this program? Former NC Community College President, Scott Randall. He was key in helping align all 58 NC Community Colleges to the CCSS Machine.)

The rest of the students? They get tracked too. Their path will be directly to community college, get a skill, get a job. Return to community college, get another skill, return to job. Repeat this cycle until you have all the credentials you need to enter your career field. The ‘new’ higher education?! Imagine it for 100% of the population. I’m not kidding. Some form of higher education (aka: post-secondary institution) is what can help America.

4) Rep. Kline’s comments contained these ‘gems’.
a) The key higher education moves in the U.S. House’s “Better Way” plan. It was revealed that the Paul Ryan pushed Plan is based largely on Kline’s earlier work in politics. Education is SO important that it’s embedded in the ‘economy’ plan under item #4.
See: http://abetterway.speaker.gov/?page=economy (*Note: KIine was quick to repeatedly use ‘bipartisan’ and ‘bicameral’ when it came to education. However, for all the bi-partisanship in the House, he didn’t mention the House Democrats view for higher education. If you want to see what CCSS friendly programs they  would like to keep or expand: http://democrats-edworkforce.house.gov/issues/education/higher-education. Examples of CCSS aligned programs: TRIO and GEAR UP.) Kline was asked how the Senators view higher education. He said that was ‘unfair’.)
b) The U.S. Congress only has a few days left before closing before the 2016 Election, so much has to be done quickly. Means rushed legislation moves. Bad news for everyone.
c) “More Access, More Success” via lower costs in higher education. His solutions?! CBE and digital education. America MUST promote innovation! This will keep the government out of the way. Oh really?! I guess the ConnectEd, the Computer Science for All, Digital Promise, etc. are all ways to keep government of education. Especially when each of these i is embedded ALREADY in ESSA and WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) or their related legislation. By the way, Kline said there have been 5 related bills already passed by the entire Congress to continue support for America’s College Promise (Obama’s plan for ‘free’ community college. “Free” is costing taxpayers at least $60 billion.) Way to keep government out of education, huh?!
d) Kline favors more digital, that’s obvious, but he also stated that families and students need things simple..as in a digital dashboard. The biggest impediment right now in higher education? Seat time because it’s taking away from CBE time and hinders credit hours. More P3s (used the Clemson/car manufacturing joint program as an example.) are the best way for America to go.

clemsoncar
5) Add to your list of global programs, like “Education for All” and “Universal PreK for All”. The new one brought up in the webinar? “Universal Free Public Higher Education”.
I found the EduCause’s older version of “universal higher education for all” (circa 2000).
See: https://net.educause.edu/ir/library/pdf/ffpfp044.pdf

Speaking of The Global Citizen:

There was plenty more in the webinar which can be used to alert us to the ‘global citizen’ mindset that the CCSS Machine is shoving at us.
a) pay as you go/learn to earn models
b) systems where higher education tracks your work hours while tracking your education hours so that you can have 2 transcripts to show you are a skilled citizen
c) eliminating extra curricular activities to divert space for the common community’s good (example: Paul Quinn College shut down their football team (said it was a drain on finances) and converted the football stadium into an organic community accessible farm.) The President of Paul Quinn College has been glorified by the Atlantic Magazine. He’s also been groomed for educational ‘success’ in part by the Aspen Institute. (Article about the Presidenthttp://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/09/bringing-a-college-back-from-the-brink/500375/)

weme
I am not singling out this college, but rather, using it as an example. The reason we have extra curricular activities like football, arts, music, etc. is to expand our minds, exercise our bodies. Seeing these vital parts of Americana vanish is sad. Seeing them aligned to the CCSS Machine, outright tragic.

Seeing so many leaders in America moving us away from independence and freedom is not only un-American, it’s criminal!

King’s Bandwagon..It’s A-comin’

kingcommentcollective

Yes, Anti-Fed Ed Warriors, you saw it correctly…Dr. John King, U.S. Secretary of Education has waxed ‘collective’ when it comes to your students. We’ve known for a while his attitude towards parents, so it shouldn’t be a surprise when he comes up with yet another insulting comment.

Climbing on My Soapbox for a Moment:

‘Everybody’ did not help me birth or raise my children. I didn’t help you birth or raise yours. We CERTAINLY do NOT need the U.S. Dept. of Education’s help either!!
I do NOT desire to see anyone’s child climb on board King’s ‘we’re-all-in-this-together’ bandwagon. The popular mindset in D.C.:  we need as many folks as possible to raise/teach our kids. If this continues: we won’t have a bandwagon of student’s champions, but I fear, village idiots running amuck! It appears, however, that King is determined to get as many on his bandwagon as he can. What do I mean?! Let me climb off my soapbox and we’ll find out.

First Stop, NPR:

Dr. King was a guest on “All Things Considered”, Sept. 3, 2016. You can either listen to the archive or read the transcript of the interview. I am choosing the transcript. The less I have to hear a CCSS Machine disciple spew rhetoric, the better.
http://www.npr.org/2016/09/03/492549553/education-secretary-says-status-quo-in-schools-is-unacceptable

As I usually do, I’ll only point out the things that need our attention the most. For example, get a load of the bandwagon-mindset title NPR chose to circulate the interview.
‘King/status quo/unacceptable’ ?!!? Are you kidding me?! Has NO ONE at NPR read ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)?! Has NO ONE at NPR talked with Congress lately?! Sure, they obviously talked to King, but he’s a CCSS Machine disciple.

Those in the D.C. arm of the CCSS Machine wouldn’t know ‘quality education’ if it sat up and punched them!
King is acting out what the CCSS Machine wants..and it WANTS STATUS QUO citizens!

As far as the interview, here are the bandwagon-worthy statements NPR and/or King had the audacity to utter.
1) NPR: “Earlier this week, his agency proposed new rules that would govern how school districts distribute federal money meant to support the education of low-income kids. The rules are intended to ensure that these federal funds, known as Title I, can only be used in addition to state and local money and not instead of those funds.”

Excuse me, but does anyone see the bandwagon mindset? HIS agency?! Governing how Fed $$ is spent?!

What was included in King’s response? “And so this is really about requiring districts to direct resources to the kids who need them most, to ensure that students have access to pre-K, to advanced coursework, to school counselors.”

Hold the horses, Dr. King! The amount of federal overreach into education has gone far enough! We DO NOT need NOR want more ways for you to require, mandate, order, or govern for us. The ironic thing is that school counselors have been ‘encouraged’ to become Career Track/Pathway and/or College and Career Readiness sales personnel! Pre-K should be up to the parents, not the government. Not every student should go to Pre-K. They need those crucial parental bonding times. (*Note: be sure you read how upset he is over Civil Rights when it comes to AP (Advanced Placement) courses. When you factor in how un-advanced those courses have been reduced to, he should be incensed about that ‘status quo’ move.)

2) The sympathy card is played by both. Whhaaa…Grow up. Most of us have hard times and don’t go on to purposefully muck up millions of students, teachers, education leaders, and abuse taxpayers money to achieve the ‘muckness of it all’.

3) The charter school/school choice card is played. Again, did no one read ESSA? ‘School choice’ is a mirage waiting for us to fall into! Charters are being aligned now to take over public schools in some states as a way to ‘fix’ those low ‘whole school grades/report cards’. If you ever need a fine example of P3 (public private partnership) disasters, look at the CCSS Machine and what’s it’s done to education.

4) NPR: “… is part of the play here on these new regulations is that if affluent schools realize they might lose something, that that might create some urgency around making sure that less affluent kids get what they need – is that part of the logic of this?”

Oh NO they DIDN’T! There is absolutely, positively NOTHING playful about ESSA or Dr. King’s rein as the top person in charge of education at the federal level! As far as ‘logic’, leveling education to a one-size-serves-all is the entire agenda.

This is where King’s response you see in the tweet above comes into context. But..what ELSE did he utter? Here’s the entire set of comments. “I hope in the end it’s that folks see that they have a stake in the success of other people’s children. The reality is you can’t build walls high enough to keep the fate of your kids separate from the fate of the kid down the block, down the street, down the road, in the next community over – all our kids’ fates are bound up together. And the work that we’re doing on supplement not supplant, the work that we’re doing on socioeconomic diversity in schools and promoting efforts to increase school diversity, all of that is about saying we are one community and we are ultimately stronger together.”

Ahh, yes..Dr. King, your global citizenship card is in the mail!

Second Stop, A Fed Ed Tour to Inspire:

Yes, the U.S. Dept. of Ed is, once again, polishing up  their CCSS/CTE (Common Core State Standards/Career Tech Education) indoctrination bandwagon using OUR taxpayer funds to convince (oh wait, sorry, it is to inspire us) all Americans how ‘opportunity’ awaits.

The Tour is officially known as “Opportunity Across America”. There’s even a handy website with smiling faces you can visit to learn more: http://www2.ed.gov/opportunity/index.html

opmed

“Opportunity for All” is code for “Mediocrity for All”!

Bandwagon stops: D.C., VA, TN, AL, AR, MS, and LA

What opportunity/mediocrity will King help promote on this latest bandwagon show?
By the way, King is a puppet for the CCSS Machine in each of these.

a) Pell Grants (used in the HEA, Higher Education Act). Pell has been refigured to align with stipulations in WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) This includes “Second Chance Pell Grants”.
b) America’s College Promise (used in secondary and post-secondary education, White House created and federally funded) will be found in ESSA, WIOA, and HEA. Totally aligned to the CCSS Machine. Often sold as ‘free college’ or ‘free community college’.
c) ConnectED (used in Pre-K to career, public libraries, and more) If you missed by eye opening revelation of how ConnectEd is not only a White House created Initiative, then you need to see it. It’ll show you tons to help you connect the indoctrination dots.
(See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/09/06/your-home-or-bust/)
d) Pre-K for All (mandated in ESSA and based on universal design for learning; will start our babies out in the ways of the CCSS Machine, not our ways.)
e) Promise Neighborhoods (codified in the ESSA, this White House created and led Initiative is now law. With it will come whole community/family alignment to the CCSS Machine in the guise of ‘student success’.)
f) Computer Science for All (another White House created and championed Initiative. The Fed Ed 2017 Budget Requests for this are astronomical. It is also woven into Item C, ConnectED. This is meant for every citizen’s alignment, not just students.
g) Teach to Lead (2017 Budget figures are ‘off the charts’ as well as every organization leading the teachers on how to lead students? CCSS Machine banner carrying member organizations.)

The rest of the items are woven into ESSA, WIOA, and or HEA collectively where needed. They include Race to the Top, college affordability, school turnarounds and anything connected. If they are in all 3 of the laws, they’ll be in one of them.

The video for “Opportunity for All” is below. In the first few seconds, you’ll hear each of the above programs championed by the President of the United States. Please note how many of the above programs are from his office. Remember, this President doesn’t have an educational background, but rather legions of educrats advising him.

Warriors, I encourage you to go to one of the bandwagon tour stops. Protest the use of your tax money used against us. Protest the unjust activity of using ‘opportunity’ as a guise for ‘control’!
If you cannot attend:  tweet, email, or call Dr. King, the U.S. Dept. of Ed., and Congress!!

Congress Loves CTE

congresscteAnti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, it’s one thing that Congress is in its recess right now, but have you seen what they did just before leaving D.C.?  Look above. Both of these, HR5587 AND S3271 made their debut in July 2016.

If you have followed my research and writing for long, you know that one of my specialties is ‘Common Core’ after high school, regardless of where the PreK through High School is completed.

If you haven’t followed me long, then you haven’t seen how, in the fall of 2014, I exposed the Adult Common Core State Standards, or how, I exposed how the Career and Technical Education was changed to Career Tech Education. You haven’t seen where I tied Career Clusters, Career Pathways, The American Apprenticeship Initiative, STEM, and STEM to STEAM, back to Common Core. To keep the focus on what is current, I will not be sharing the links to each of these juggernauts. However, if you need the information, please, let me know.

The Purposed Legislative Scramble ( more background before we tackle the ‘latest’ news):

In one of my articles published not long after the ink was dry on ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), I told you the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) was embedded in ESSA about 65 times. WIOA is also linked to HEA (Higher Education Act) via the Carl Perkins funding.

WIOA also ties back to the American Apprenticeships and STEM (along with the STEM to STEAM). ESSA has STEM embedded too. Most citizens have been shocked when I share with them that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; the ‘a’ was added later and embedded the Arts in STEM to create STEAM) is NOT separate from CCSS (Common Core State Standards) but is in fact a product of the interaction between the PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) and the President USING CCSS as a detractor from what was really happening! Just as CCSS is no friend to education reform, the way STEM has been rolled out, is not a friend either. Why? The goal of STEM is not education, but a ‘workforce nation’. Does this sound familiar?!

Think of it this way:

workforcenochoice
Warriors, there has been NO mistake about the workforce shift. There has been no law related (in any way, shape, form, or fashion) to education without it. These have been  carefully plotted moves in the making for YEARS. As other researchers have also shown you, the movement is global, not exclusive to America.

So, it shouldn’t really be a surprise to find our Congress creating MORE legislation along the streamlined workforce path already in place.

What’s a Warrior to do?! Speak up to your Congress members. Especially if they are sponsoring either HR5587 or S3271. Spread the knowledge, many citizens in America are convinced that CCSS (and now ESSA) is ONLY K-12 and in traditional type schools. THIS IS A LIE, regardless who tells you!

ESSA has birth to first grade readiness, special needs alignment, dual and concurrent enrollment, AP or IB classes/courses, and every conceivable education choice ensnared. Either through the digital assessments (to take place inside and outside the home), funding (not just education funds, but health/human services, labor, commerce, etc.), FASFA forms, and/or wrap around services for entire communities.  ESSA is written to conform, not to free States.

HR 5587, Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act:

Link to the Press Release: http://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=400923

Here’s what we need to know as Warriors Against Fed Led Ed:
1) Being championed as a ‘bipartisan’ piece of great legislation, 5587, passed the Ed and Workforce (U.S. House of Representatives) by a vote of 37-0.
2) 5587 was introduced by Rep. Thompson of PA and Rep. Clark from MA.
3) Press release is dated July 2016, Congress is in recess until early September.
4) The purpose of 5587? “reauthorizes and reforms the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to help more Americans enter the workforce with the skills they need to compete for high-skilled, in-demand jobs.”
5) Be sure to read the other Representatives who are featured in the Press Release. Take note of Rep. Kline’s. He was a huge backer of ESSA before it was called ESSA. Speaking of such, remember when you step into the voting booths in November that the House of Representative’s education bill (HR5) went on to become key in ESSA’s language. Also remember the voting record of HR5..it had not a single “No” vote.
6) You will also see several bullet points about the great flexibility States will have to streamline work and education (there is even a shameless plug for how it will help taxpayers). As we have proven with ESSA, State and local flexibility is not true.
7) 5587 is 88 pages long. It takes effect 7/1/17. Subtle shifts in language (just as in ESSA) pack a powerful punch. How so? See for yourselves, “(A) by striking ‘‘academic and career and  technical skills’’ and inserting ‘‘academic knowledge and technical and employability skills’’; (B) by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’  after ‘‘technical education programs’’;  (2) in paragraph (3), by striking ‘‘, including  tech prep education’’;  (3) in paragraph (4), by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’ after ‘‘technical education programs’’; and  5  (4) in paragraph (6), by inserting ‘‘or programs’’ after ‘‘education schools’’ ”
8) You’ll also see other big shifts in the language, like ‘in demand’ occupations, regionally based education, competency based education, etc.

S3271)

S3271, Workforce Advance Act:

The Press Release from Sen. Bennet (CO)‘s website: https://www.bennet.senate.gov/?p=release&id=3742
Again, bipartisanship is being heralded.
Again, ‘more choice’ in learning (a very false positive statement). See how Sen. Bennet’s website stated it, give more high school students the opportunity to take career and technical education college courses that can help prepare them for success in the 21st century. The Workforce Advance Act will help strengthen and expand dual and concurrent enrollment and early college high school options as part of Perkins-supported career technical education (CTE) programs. Strong CTE programs can provide vital access to the knowledge and skills needed for job and career success.”

But that’s not all S3271 will do. Check out what teachers have to look forward to, “The bill would allow schools to use a portion of the funding they receive through the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act for tuition and fees for CTE college courses. It would also allow school districts to use funding to support teachers pursuing the credentials needed to teach these courses in their high schools, helping to remove a barrier to providing access to college credit. Finally, the bill would allow the Department of Education to use national CTE activities to help identify successful methods and best practices for providing dual or concurrent enrollment programs and early college high school career and technical education opportunities.”

Warriors, ‘region specific education’ is already written into ESSA. Teachers being trained to teach post-secondary readiness (for college and career) is already written into ESSA! ‘National activities’ and CTE activities’ are also already written into ESSA!

Other tentacles of WIOA, HEA, STEM, and ESSA in S3271:
1) apprenticeships
2) public-private partnerships, especially in businesses
3) data mining and sharing of data between U.S. Dept. of Ed, U.S. Dept. of Labor, U.S. Commerce Dept., and all of these at the State levels, too.
4) more use of students as ‘lab rats’ for ‘evidence based research’.
5) how those in rural areas will be encompassed
6) special needs tracks for CTE will also increase

See the S3271https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/3271/text
Presently, the U.S. Senate’s HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee has S3271. This is also the same group headed by Sen. Lamar Alexander. HELP is also charged with checking up on how ESSA is progressing.

Where did the backbone for S3271 come from? According to the Senate’s supporting documents for S3271, the State Directors for CTE  and the Assoc. for CTE created a document of principles for S3271. See: Senate Principles Crosswalk_FINAL

What you see below is the evidence to verify what my research has already shown,
1) that WIOA is, in fact embedded in ESSA.
2) that school counselors (per a White House led Initiative) are to influence students
(related will be the counselors at the one-stop-job/career-centers where non traditional students and those seeking a job will be influenced)
3) that ANY school receiving Perkins funding will be impacted (this includes the proprietary (for profit) schools and virtual schools.

Can we stop Congress from passing these? I believe we can. Both have only been introduced. Both haven’t cleared their respective Chambers, much less crossed over. Neither has been signed into law yet. Let’s get busy, Warriors!

What you see below is from Dec. 2015, when Perkins Funding received an extension to continue funding across the nation for all those in CTE courses. It was signed just days after ESSA was passed into law.

The rope is tightening, Warriors, but we can break that rope with massive amounts of teamwork!

FTF: An Extension for Higher Ed Act

heaext

For my first “From the Files” Tuesday article for February 2016, I wanted to share with you my fellow anti CCSS Warriors how a bill was passed in late 2015, we more than likely had no clue passed. What does this have to do with Common Core? Plenty! It extended portions of the HEA (Higher Education Act)!

For quite sometime I have been helping raise awareness about the HEA and have given you plenty of evidence which easily connects the HEA to the CCSS Machine (Common Core State Standards Machine). The main connection?! Career Tech Education (CTE)! How this connect to the picture you see above? Perkins Funding!

For a quick recap about Perkins Funding, here is an excerpt from one of my previously published detailed articles, “The Perkins Act was created back in 1984, since then it’s been updated a few times. However, the original intent was to increase the quality of education that was considered technical or, at the time, vocational. With the advent of Common Core via the Career Tech, Career Clusters, Career Pathways, it’s not longer ‘cool’ to use the word ‘vocation’, now it’s ‘career’. Last updated in 2006 here are the 3 parameters that MUST happen with the Act.:
“1. Replaces “vocational education” with “career and technical education”

2. Maintains the Tech Prep program as a separate entity with federal funding within the legislation
3. Maintains state administrative funding at 5 percents of a state’s allocation
The new law also requires the development of articulation agreements and strengthens local
accountability provisions. The Perkins Act provides almost $1.3 billion annually to career and technical education programs in all 50 states until 2016.’ Each state gets to decide how to split the funding between secondary schools and post-secondary schools.”

To see the rest of the article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/11/20/tech-thursday-perkins-gets-the-common-core-squeeze/

What you need to know that is still relevant:
1) The Perkins Funds used in higher education are based on the number of children aged 5 to 17 years old in each LEA (local education agency). You will also see how there are other ways the funding is based on (for example, one way is in conjunction with groups of States {as in the United States} working together).

2) From just last month, I was able to connect more intended misuse of Perkins Funding in the State of NC via an upcoming bond that is to be on our primary ballots March 15, 2016. How? The bond, known as “Connect NC Bond”, shows you how at least one NC Community College would take its bond money and use it NOT for its intended purpose (update buildings), BUT to purchase and provide MORE Career Tech Education courses! See the article:
 https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/11/winter-2016-a-look-ahead-nc-and-the-usa/

3) From December 2015, this excerpt where Perkins Funding for CTE is embedded in the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), “Keywords of ‘Perkins Funding’ (for CTE): a total of 8 references to page numbers 38, 123, 132, 516, 677, 939, 993, and 1026.”

An Extension Does NOT Mean a Re-authorization, Does It?

For quite a while now, I have been sharing in my interviews heard nationally that the HEA is usually re-authorized near the time the original ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) is. We know the ESSA is the re-authorization of the ESEA, but does the Bill for the Extension of the HEA mean that is IT’S re-authorization? No. The Extension simply continued the stream of Perkins Funding. It is only 4 pages long, as well. But, before we leave each other for today, what are the ‘other purposes’ embedded in the Extension?

*Note: The latest re-authorization of the HEA was back in 2008.

1) The first item of business(after the Title description) in the HEA Extension is NOT the Perkins money. (That is, in fact, the second item of business.) The National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) and its Extension.
What does the NACIQI do?
Per the 2008 version of the HEA, this group follows the recommendations of the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Secretary in both accreditation and requirements for higher educational institutions to meet and uphold in order to receive funding. If you want to learn more about their powers, see:  http://www2.ed.gov/about/bdscomm/list/naciqi.html

While this, on the surface, appears to be on the up and up, remember how many articles I have shared with you about the ways in which the HEA will be rewritten to further the CCSS Machine’s Workforce agenda. By holding the institutions which deliver higher education to the tentacles of the CCSS/CTE and now, the College/Career Readiness (CCR), you can know that when the HEA is re-authorized, this group will be sure to apply all the CCSS Machine’s nuts and bolts it can. To see some of what I am referring to:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/06/11/tech-thursday-more-alexander-hea-and-the-next-america/

2) This is where the Perkins Funding Extension comes into play.

3) Following Perkins is the Extension of the Advisory Committee for Student Financial Assistance (ACSFA). If you visit the website page for ACSFA you will see that the lapse in government funding halted operations back in October 2015. See: http://www2.ed.gov/about/bdscomm/acsfa/index.html

If we want to find out what the ACSFA did (or perhaps has been able to pick back up and continue on with), we will need to go back to August 2015. Here is an excerpt, “The Advisory Committee serves as an independent source of advice and counsel to the Congress and the Secretary of Education on student financial aid policy.” The description goes on to say the Committee is to be non partisan, objective, and independent. Back in 2008, when the HEA was last updated, you need to see what functions this Committee had impact on. (For example, Title 4 funding.) Not sure what Title 4 Funds are? See below:

4pie

Have Title 4 Funds Been Aligned to CCSS/CTE/CCR?

In my previously published article title “Dependent Truth”, I direct you to a possible answer there. In the research I have been able to find, I would say the short answer is yes, the funding is aligned. It is part of a vicious cycle our students are being put through, thanks the CCSS Machine. How? Consider how early in a student’s education we are seeing Career Tech Education creep in. Consider how many CCSS/CTE courses students must complete to earn credits to graduate. Consider how many schools are starting the FASFA process early. In order to complete the FASFA forms (Financial Student Aid), many states are requiring certain courses to be completed as part of graduation. The connection? Look at your State to see how many of these are CCSS/CTE or College and Career Ready ones.
To see the ‘Dependent Truth’https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/12/ftf-a-dependent-truth/

To see the Federal Financial Aid’s ’12th Grade Checklist’:
https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/prepare-for-college/checklists/12th-grade
While this may look okay on the surface, note that it is using the cost of college as a reason to complete FASFA paperwork in the 12th grade. Note the need for discussing your career path with the school counselor. Where is the CCSS/CTE connection there? School counselors (as I have shared in the past) are being increasingly ‘encouraged’ to guide students to a Career Pathway (another catchy name for Career Tech Education) way of existence. See my article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/
*Note: be sure to view the White House Initiative presentation expressly for school counselors and their alignment to the CCSS Machine!

Monday Musings: More than Meets the Eye

armchair
You won’t believe what I saw this weekend!

If you are fighting the data collection that accompanies the CCSS Machine’s overreach into our educational systems, its leaders, its students, then you will want to be sure to reach today’s “Monday Musings”.

As you may know (or maybe you didn’t know), I am a huge college football fan. As such, I try to take a little time off each Saturday afternoon to watch the games. On Saturday, Dec. 5th, I was doing just that when I noticed this one commercial from Microsoft appear. It didn’t appear just one or two times, it appeared several times (sorry, I didn’t get an exact count). At first, I basically ignored the commercial (after all, it is over 1 minute long). However, I began to notice the rhetoric in the advertisement was causing the anti CCSS Warrior in me to say, “Wait, what did that ad just reveal?”. I am including the ad below from You Tube, so you can watch it before we dive into the rest of this article.

Go back and listen for how many athletes are tracked data wise, listen again for what information about those athletes is tracked. If you didn’t catch it, these special needs kids’ health (which includes every aspect of their health) is not only being data mined/tracked, it is being used as part of their progress! Did you catch how the Microsoft Cloud can even look at their past performances?!

While Microsoft is supplying the data mining tool, did you notice it was the Special Olympics CEO who was speaking about the data tracking? Did you notice the ‘global’ vent in which she was speaking? If you would like to see the global agenda behind SO (Special Olympics), see:
http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Fact%20Sheet_SOI%20General%20Overview.pdf

SO and CCSS in the Schools:

Don’t get me wrong, I am not out to vilify SO. Rather, my point is to show you the ties back to CCSS, SO is participating in. For example, the SO school program “Get Into It” is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education!
See (https://getintoit.specialolympics.org/) While you cannot access the lessons unless you are a registered member, the fine print tells you the school program fits state standards. Another school specific program SO has is called “Project Unify”, check out the pro CCSS groups tapped as the partners, “Partnerships with education organizations such as the NEA Foundation, The State Education Agency K-12 Service-Learning Network (SEANet), the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), National School Boards Association (NSBA), The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National Dropout Prevention Center (NDPC),the IDEA Partnership and many others.” (Source: http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Sections/What_We_Do/Project_Unify/Project%20UNIFY%20Toolkit.pdf)

Project Unify’s 2010 Case Study is another document you can easily find pro CCSS ties in. Be sure to see all 200 plus pages of this Study. You will learn much more about the SO’s support of the re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act) See the screen shot below:
SO21
Source: http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Sections/What_We_Do/Project_Unify/Project%20UNIFY%20Toolkit.pdf

SO and CCSS Outside the Classroom:

Among SO‘s sponsors is the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) who have shown their CCSS love all to well. Notice, also that a national organization representing school counselors is also a sponsor. What’s so CCSS friendly about school counselors? In case you missed my very special article detailing a White House led program to align all school counselors to CCSS, here it is:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/

As far as those pro CCSS organizations who partner with SO, you will find Bank of America, Unicef, Microsoft and others. To find them all, http://www.specialolympics.org/faqs.aspx (*Note, the Partners will be all the way down at the bottom of the page and you will need to click on the right hand arrow to see all of the partners.)

CCSS and Sports:

Sometime last year I wrote this CCSS Physical Education article. In I reveal for you just how much of our school’s PE programs are crossing over to the CCSS way of education. See: http://preventcommoncore.com/?p=1080

Gates Foundation and the Kennedy Foundation:

As you may, or may not know, Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a key person in the history of SO. However, since her passing did you know the Foundation which bears her name has received Gates Foundation grants for the purpose of human scientific research? What does this have to do with the Microsoft Cloud commercial?
Let’s see if there is a connection.
First, consider that the Gates Foundation’s 2009 grant to the Shriver Foundation was for biomarkers to assess micronutrient exposure, status, and function/effect’ (see: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/How-We-Work/Quick-Links/Grants-Database/Grants/2009/09/OPP1003253)
While this may (or may not) in fact have been some of the ground work needed to help the Microsoft Cloud collect the type of human data featured in the commercial, I cannot prove beyond the shadow of a doubt.

However,  it is very important to note here that Mrs. Shriver’s Foundation is a part of the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and that the NIH is part of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, the 3rd federal department helping the nation’s alignment to CCSS/CTE (Common Core State Standards and Career Tech Education). The others? The U.S. Dept. of Education and the U.S. Dept. of Labor!  What is very interesting is when I did a general term search on the NIH for “Common Core Standards”, I was led to a document where NIH‘s data mining, sharing, and “biobanking” are laid out. Access the document, pmi-working-group-report-20150917-2
What is ‘biobanking’? It refers to banks where human tissue samples, their DNA, and other such personal items are stored. While I was able to find a University of Helsinki/Microsoft Cloud agreement where it was stated that non public bio banking and genome data was not to be shared, it did NOT appear to prohibit public bio banks! See the screen shot below:
helsinkimicro
See the entire agreement: http://www.helsinki.fi/atk/tike/liitetiedostot/Office365_EULA_en.pdf

Anti CCSS Warriors, please note that all the above information is given to help point out some of the sheer audaciousness the pro CCSS education reform agenda is becoming. It isn’t the first time we will see a wolf in sheep’s clothing ad, nor, will it be the last. However, if we don’t stop, take notice, and then, share information connected, we will be no more helpful than a screen door on a submarine! We must be diligent, even in our ‘down time’. Please, if you have more information about data mining, biobanking, how invasive the Cloud (no matter if it is Microsoft’s, Apple’s or some other company) is with regard to human information, or other connections which we can use to help shine the light; share what you know! We, as anti CCSS Warriors need every bit of teamwork we can muster.

Weekend News: Those Ghouls in Our Schools

Much like ghouls, the CCSS Machine is consuming our schools.
Much like ghouls, the CCSS Machine is consuming our schools.

On this last weekend in October 2015, many of us are using the fall festivals, Halloween parties to help raise awareness toward the damages CCSS, CTE, and all the other ‘alphabet soup’ acronyms we find the CCSS Machine (my name for the CCSSI, or the Common Core State Standards Initiative) where anything connected to CCSS was plotted, planned, and being executed.

We all know what damages we are seeing in our teachers, our students. We’ve seen how our principals, school counselors, school board members, and other educational staff members are being ‘consumed’ with CCSS Machine indoctrination. Some are succumbing to the Initiative, others are NOT. We’ve been horrified by our state leaders and federal representatives (who were elected to serve us) when they’ve also, given in to the ‘fodder of ruin’ and continued to create programs and legislation to continue the ‘cycle of pain’ in our schools.  We’ve also felt our anger at all this injustice rise. We’ve shouted, we’ve cursed, we’ve fought hard, and stood in the way  to protect others from this ‘tide of doom’. So, as one of my fellow anti CCSS warriors has asked (in a way to encourage others to press on)….WHY BOTHER?

We bother because no human being on the face of this planet should have to endure the mental and physical abuse we are seeing in our schools..regardless of preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, or post-secondary schools of all types. The CCSS Machine is grinding away in a plethora of ways. We bother because we know what is good, right, and true ISN’T possible in an illegally based education reform. We fight on, against the all consuming agenda behind the ghouls in our schools, because massive change for the future of our nation is upon us..and IT IS NOT to see our beloved country carry on as it has, but rather to shape it into some hollow image of globalism. We bother because, we, the people, were not consented, our tax dollars used against  our desires and wishes. We bother because the trust we’ve placed in those to lead us, speak for us, and act for us, have abused that sacred privilege without hesitation. We bother because those few brave souls who’ve spoken up, who’ve exercised courage deserve to have our companionship.

We have become activists, speakers, authors, and more importantly, we’ve become champions to those we seek to protect. That reason alone, my fellow anti CCSS Warriors, is paramount to wiping the CCSS ghoulish intent off the map. We find ourselves on the cusp of another new month. Depending on which state you live in, is to how many other months you’ve battled the CCSS Machine. However, the fact is we know that every single day ANY student is exposed to ANY part of the CCSS Machine is one day too many!
Tools to Help Take Down the  Ghouls:

Below are the best tools I’ve found to fight the CCSS Ghouls in D.C.,
1) https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/29/tech-thursday-stemccss-push-making-it-american/
Why this is a set of tools in one article: I’ve shown you in this article how a bill not really connected to education, is being crafted to INCLUDE CCSS/CTE/CCR (Common Core State Standards/Career Tech Education/College, Career Ready) in it. We’ve seen this tactic used repeatedly in D.C. Let’s let them know that the anti CCSS Warriors will not tolerate or support this dirty move any more!

Why this is a tool to use: It shows you how the private side of the P3s (public, private partnerships) is setting our students up for one way of education is becoming the normal in America, rather than the freedom of choice we’ve known for so long.

This article is an eye opener for the hype the CCSS Machine produces on a daily basis. We know the hype is from other sources as well. Use this as an example of looking at those other sources and then SHARE it with others.

Closing:

Know that I will continue to find these CCSS Ghouls where they hide. I’ll expose what plans they intend to unleash in education and SHARE it as far and as wide as I can. No matter the cost, I will NOT stand to see the CCSS Machine take down America, her citizens, or her freedoms. I’m honored you are fighting with me against ANYTHING connected to the CCSS Initiative.

Tech Thursday: Career Readiness Pledge

Can you believe the U.S. Congress has a CTE (adult CCSS) caucus??!! Wow!
Can you believe the U.S. Congress has a CTE (adult CCSS) caucus??!! Wow!

The picture you see above is from my May 2015 article where I exposed the Congressional Caucus for Career Technical Education. CTE (Career Technical Education) is the post-secondary version of Common Core. Others like myself have uncovered this truth and shared it many times over. I know that on my blog along there are many articles about the ties. Today, however, we’re going to dive into the CCSSO’s Career Tech Education interference. (CCSSO stands for the Council of Chief State School Officers) CCSSO is the half-owner of the “Common Core State Standards”.

If you missed the May 2015 article, please refer to:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/tech-thursday-when-you-think-its-not-ccss-but-it-is/
The biggest ‘take aways’ you need to know from the above article are that (1) the House of Representative’s caucus has been in action since 2007, the Senate’s began in 2014. (2) The Association for Career Technical Education (ACTE) works hand-in-hand with the Congressional caucuses and has written a letter to the U.S. President concerning his Scholars Program and to push for even MORE CTE alignment for the sake of  their communities. (3) A current House Bill 2317 is titled “Career Choice Counseling” (4) glorifying more rigor, college, career readiness. (5) How Perkins Funding (used in post-secondary educational institutions) is being misused for the sake of the CCSS Machine’s agenda.

The CTE Pledge:

Announced yesterday by the CCSSO, was the news that Wisconsin had taken the CTE Pledge for their state’s education. See the screen shot below:
WICTEpledge

So, what’s the Pledge? There are 3 statements in the Pledge:
“1) make career and technical education (CTE) programs more responsive to the labor market by enlisting employers as lead partners
2) raise the threshold for quality career pathways, and
3) make career readiness a higher priority in state accountability systems.”

Let me pause for a moment, anti CC Warriors. Do you see the problems in the Pledge? I do!
Businesses as leaders in education? Where are the teachers, they should be the leaders! Then the Career Pathways is a huge issue. Why? It’s embedded at least 21 different times in the WIOA of 2014 (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014). The US Dept. of Labor has joined with the US Dept. of Education and the US Dept. of Health, Human Services to push for a trained workforce in America. The goal? It isn’t so a person can get ahead in life, it’s so the nation can be globally competitive! Lastly, we know the CCSS Machine is trying to calm folks down by using different names for CCSS. “Career Readiness” and “Career Readiness Standards” are just two of those efforts.
Back to the Pledge, now. Wisconsin joins 16 other states who’ve taken the CTE Pledge. The others, according to the CCSSO’s press release, are “The 17 states are California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Wyoming.” See the rest of the press release,
http://www.ccsso.org/News_and_Events/Press_Releases/CCSSO_Announces_State_Action_to_Advance_Career_Pathways_.html
The CTE Pledge is part of the “Career Readiness Initiative”. This Initiative, also from the CCSSO is to close the skills gap in America. Warriors, many anti CCSS researchers, writers, and reporters, have shared with us that the truth is there isn’t really a skills gap in America. It’s just another pro CCSS fallacy to throw us off the track. The Initiative is slam full of ‘collectivism’, ‘best practices’, and ‘incentives’ for states who ‘step up’ their plans to align to even more tied to the ‘Core’. To see the Career Ready Initiativehttp://www.ccsso.org/Resources/Programs/Career_Readiness_Initiative.html

According to the WI announcement, this move is happening because data collected in the other states already pledged have seen better results in graduation rates. Pardon me, if I’m not sold. Why? Look at how many OTHER pro CCSS/CTE reports we’ve seen where it’s shown as ‘great’, only to find out that when the truth comes out, the numbers are WRONG. That said, that’s not the worst part of the CTE Pledge. If you’ve already looked at the CCSSO’s resources I’ve shared above, you’ll notice that this ‘Career Ready Initiative’ is only ONE step in a multi-step process. The next step? It appears to the “The universal implementation of academic and career planning services in 2017-18” What ‘universal implementation’?!

Academic and Career Planning:
Here’s what the State Superintendent of WI has to say about ACP (Academic and Career Planning) under his authority:

Wow! “Part of the agenda”, you heard him say that directly. The CCSS/CTE agenda is a trained workforce! How will these students plan? Well, most schools have trained staff counselors on hand to help guide our students, right? What happens when the COUNSELORS have been aligned to the CCSS/CTE agenda? Think it can’t happen? It already is happening. Read all about it in my previously published article where I lay out for you the White House Initiative for school counselors to become aligned to Common Core, Career Tech, and Career Pathways. Why school counselors? According to the White House presentation “school guidance counselors being in the BEST STRATEGIC position to steer our students to the CCSS, College/Career Ready path/track!!” One of the presenters of this presentation said, “‘They are the heart and soul of the agenda. They are uniquely positioned.’”

So what about those 16 other states? Are they ‘universally implemented’ as well? The links below may be of help in answering this question. If not, they are at least a place for you to start your own researching.

For those with Special Needs students? There’s a Academic and Career Plan in place in some states. The Dept. of Labor has all the information on their website page from the Office of Disability Employment Policy. See: http://www.dol.gov/odep/ilp/map/

Oh, and for those states which didn’t adopt CCSS? They have CTE. The two examples I found popping up almost every time I searched for the 16 states above are VA and TX. Here’s VA’s Academic and Career Planning site: http://doe.virginia.gov/instruction/graduation/academic_career_plan/index.shtml
Texas also didn’t sign on for CCSS, but here’s their ACP site: http://www.achievetexas.org/Resources1.htm

Did you notice the ‘catchy’ names for some of the states? ‘Achieve’, ‘Way to Go’, ‘Planning Your Dreams’, to name 3. What a deception! What student, what teacher has dreamed of being so like everyone else? What student or guidance counselor has ever expected their task would be to assimilate rather than be free? Did you notice how young some of the states are starting their ACPs? What an abomination to our children!!

Warriors, we know from much research, the goal is a total cradle to grave mentality that accompanies the CCSS Machine. Wrapped in good intentions looms an education that is full of ill intent. We must call our U.S. Senators and Representatives to HALT any work on the re-authorization efforts connected to pre-K universal standards/elementary and secondary bills (HR5 and S1177), as well as efforts geared toward post-secondary education (HEA). Every one of these has MORE control via CCSS, CTE, Career Pathways, STEM, College and Career Readiness, and the other names CCSS hides behind. Everyone of these efforts has MORE data mining, high-stake assessments. Each of these efforts forces schools to cease teaching and becoming community one-stop hubs for ‘education’ purposes. We MUST contact our leaders. We are America, not other countries where their freedoms are neutered. Use this link to Tweet every Congress member:

Don’t use Twitter, call the main Congressional switchboard and ask to be connected to your Congress member. The Capitol Hill main phone line is 202-224-3121

Not sure what to say to halt this massive continuation of CCSS? Please refer to the letter the FL Stop Common Core Coalition wrote and has had it delivered to Congress just a couple of days ago! I wrote about the historic move on my “From the Files” article. Many national publications have also picked up the story.
