It Isn’t All Sunshine And Nuts

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, in my last article, I shared with you how HR 62 would make a grab for our babies from a federal level. Included in that article was how MN is struggling to keep parents in control of their families.

The article before that,  I  showed you how FEPA (Foundations for Evidence-based Policy Making Act) would also assist in the grab for our babies, I showed you how OR was considering in-home visits. Also included was how UT has them firmly in place.

In both articles I stressed that the grab for babies/the in-home visits is not exclusive to one State. It’s in all the States and US territories ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) money goes to. If it hasn’t shown up in your State yet, hang on, it is in the works.

GA is struggling with recent news. So are KS and CT.

***For the remainder of this article, I share information sent to me concerning some other warning bells from the latest 3. Be sure to compare it to the information from OR, UT, and MN.

While the tactics may differ a bit, the overall goal of aligning babies to the CCSS Machine is the same. The CCSS Machine pushes ‘readiness’ at all levels, now, since ESSA, and the mandate to expand early childhood ‘learning’, as well as universal PreK, this is why we’re seeing SO much in the news.

First Up, KS, The Sunflower State:

Warriors, Lisa H., shared this with me via email and wanted you to know about their ABC Program. No, it’s not for teaching little ones their alphabet. It’s called the Attachment Bio-Behavioral Catch-up Program.

Lisa shared that the group behind this Program (the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund) was on last year’s legislative calendar and appeared before the KS Education Committee. They are scheduled to appear before the KS Education Committee again this yearn for a follow up. The email went on to share that SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency, a part of the US Dept. of HHS), as well as others are fully backing removing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).

So is the CCSS Machine, Warriors, only it’s not for school readiness as much as it is micro-managing citizens. I wrote about this push headed up by the Rockefellers and being embraced by churches, law enforcement, etc. in my Resilience articles. )

What are Lisa’s concerns? Swabbing children’s mouths for cortisol levels and recording the entire in-home session with the parents and children.

While some may read this and think, “Oh, that’s not too bad.” The reason this ministry is able to intrude like this is due to the expansion of P3s (public-private partnerships) in ESSA for education! The in-home visits are part of ESSA’s supposed dedication to student achievement and family engagement.

hegelianed

What it REALLY is, is home invasion by the government. Take into consideration that our U.S. Constitution was supposed to prohibit such (4th Amendment), but with FEPA actively neutering 9 U.S. Constitutional Amendments, the 4th is severely at risk. FEPA also will tie to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). Which, as we know, is used in health care.

Related for KS and other States:
The United Methodist Health Ministry was awarded $650,000.00 by the Kansas Early Childhood Initiative (part of the Kansas Health Foundation) under “access to care”. The Grant was given in 2017 and ends in 2020. The ‘access’ is the ABC Program. The Kansas Health Foundation is a massive P3 and was created as the result of the Hospital Corporation of America purchasing the non-profit Wesley Hospital.

Hospital Corporation of America can be found in 20 States and the United Kingdom. From their latest Annual Report (2017), this quote, “Within our markets, we worked to broaden our service line capabilities by investing in cancer, trauma, stroke, behavioral health and pediatric services. This focus centers on elevating clinical performance and
establishing consistent clinical protocols to achieve better patient outcomes across the
organization.” HCA receives Medicare/aid funding from the federal government, as well as private investors on the Stock Exchange. On page 15, you’ll see how HCA has psychiatrics listed as a way to compete in health care. Page 42 admits the use of third party data contractors to handle patient data. Page 46 gives the list of  the 20 States and the United Kingdom information.

Also joining with the United Methodist Health Ministry is the Kansas  Children’s Service League (KCSL). It’s a part of the National Prevent Child Abuse America. The KCSL is all about collaboration. As in the ‘village’ concept as shared by this Kansas educratic leader.

Kansas has embedded (2015)  a State Wide Initiative called “Kansans Can”. A vital part of the KC Initiative? The “Kansas Can: School Redesign Project”. Warriors, as we know that’s 100% U.S. Dept. of Ed fodder.

Next, Stop: GA (Peach State):

Warriors, you may know Georgia is personally, very dear to me. That said, the grab for babies is just as bad in the Peach State as it is in the Sunflower State.

Recently, it was announced that the PreK Development Grant the State received would go to DECAL. DECAL (Dept. of Early Care and Learning) will be“Using grant funds, DECAL will conduct a statewide ECCE needs assessment; develop a statewide strategic plan to strengthen the state’s ECCE system; create resources to inform families about available programs and services; develop groups and opportunities for early childhood educators to share best practices; and create supports for the state’s dual language learners and their families.” (*Note: ECCE is short for Early Childhood Care and Education.)

Under DECAL, the early learning program is called “Bright From the Start”. Warriors, look at the ‘peach packed agenda’ below:

Also, recently in GA , and via Senate Bill 15, the push to expand ‘school safety’ (another ESSA mandate) into private schools. In GA, that also includes homeschoolers. Warriors, as you’ve known, I’ve been warning for years that the federal overreaches in ESSA would assimilate these families.
This will increase, not only the intrusion into family homes, but also set up more data mining and control by Homeland Security Agencies.

Lastly, The Nutmeg State, Connecticut:

Warriors, one of my Anti Fed Ed Warriors,  Anne M. in CT, recently posted a picture about the United Way of CT’s grab for babies and their Moms.

Here’s a screen shot of the United Way in Anne’s community.

Also tied to the (National Inoperability Collective) NIC, is David Wilkinson. Wilkinson, according to his LinkedIN profile as a Director of the White House Office of Social Innovation (under Pres. Obama). You can also tie Wilkinson to the Ounce of Prevention Fund. Back in 2016, I shared with you the OPF’s grab at children via ESSA.

The 2018 NIC Symposium notes and speakers can be located here. The NIC announcement about the Symposium is where you’ll see the ‘wheel house’.

For All The States:

United Way is tied to Google and the United Nations, so, of course, ‘cradle to career’ is the alignment. United Way is partners with the CCSS Machine in many other ways and groups as well.

From 2016, United Way, President Obama’s Promise Neighborhoods (which was a codified mandate in ESSA), U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and “Youth Build”. Also from that year, United Way and those ‘wrap around services’.

From 2017, United Way and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) for cradle to career coding.

If you would like to see the United Way’s influence on the current NC State Superintendent,  read this from the election season of 2016. Collectivism was/is the name of the game.

Closing:

Warriors, the cradle to career, then grave will keep being seen in the news as the ESSA mandates continue to ursurp the Tenth Amendment. In my next article, we’ll look at the federal misguidance on ‘school choice’ and the 116th’s bill to support the deception.

The Chain Gang Cometh

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, when I share what I just found out, I hope the chorus from The Pretenders song,“Back on the Chain Gang”, doesn’t pop into your head. I know it did in my head. The chorus goes, “We’re back on the train; oh back on the chain gang.” However, look at the last verse,
“The powers that be
That force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what they’ve done to you
But I’ll die as I stand here today
Knowing that…”

So, What in the World Would Invoke This?!

chaingang
That’s right..another *&&^%* fed bill connecting education to anything that could even be considered related, no matter if it truly is or NOT. This one doesn’t have a number yet, that I could find. Notice the language in the tweet in the middle…‘we must’.

I want to pause and state for ‘the record’ that I agree there are things, we as a people MUST do, but as a federally controlled government? NO! Especially when you factor in how EVERYTHING about education is NOT a Constitutionally protected federal jurisdiction! Think about it, since the federal government has NO legality over education, they shouldn’t be able to include education into some area that is their business. By no means am I an expert on our penal system.  However, I DO know education! So, for the remainder of this article, I’ll lay out the federal overreaches into education from a juvenile justice angle.

First Up, Before ESSA, “At-risk” Measures:

From my 2014 article about ‘alternative education’, where you will find every student population OUTSIDE a public school student, as well as certain student populations INSIDE public education defined.
“At-risk” students fall into BOTH categories. “The Dropout Prevention Center/Network notes that CTE (Career Tech Education) is one of its 15 solutions or strategies. The Center/Network believes “such as individualized instruction, service-learning, community collaboration, mentoring, active learning, and educational technology. According to the Center, “A quality CTE program and a related guidance program are essential for all students.” CTE was identified to have five potential benefits to at-risk students by Schargel and Smink in Strategies to Help Solve our School Dropout Problem. These benefits include enhancement of students’ motivation and academic achievement; increased personal and social competence related to work in general; a broad understanding of an occupation or industry; career exploration and planning; and acquisition of knowledge or skills related to employment in particular occupations or more generic work competencies.”

If you’ve not read this, please do. While the information is a bit dated, we, as anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors know the value of information. The resources in the article are key to our current fight. See:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/03/tech-thursday-career-techcommon-core-and-alternative-education/

Secondly, Before ESSA was ESSA:

Not so long ago, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) wasn’t called the “Every Student Succeeds Act”. The House had their own version of a made over ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act, 1965), and called it HR5 or the “Student Success Act”. The Senate had their own version, S1177 or the “Every Student Achieves Act”.

“ESSA” as we know it was a combined effort to take the much more effective HR5 and ‘water it down’ with the S1177.

So, what did HR5 AND S1177 have in regards to ‘at-risk’ students? Here’s an excerpt from my 2015 article about CCSS/CTE updates. “reveals how IDEA funding and more, are being abused for the post-secondary alignment to all things CCSS, CTE for students with any sort of special needs, or ‘at risk’ students. Even if you do not have a student in either of these populations, it is OUR tax money which funds IDEA.”  I urge you to go back and read what’s in this jam-packed informative article. See:
 https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/07/weekend-news-ccsscte-catch-up-edition/

If you want to see details about how SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is being abused by the CCSS Machine and will be used for ‘at-risk’ students (as well as others), see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/21/weekend-news-the-state-of-ccsss-sel/

ESSA Embeds WIOA and HEA, A Toxic Triangle:

ESSA: Every Student Succeeds Act
WIOA: Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act
HEA: Higher Education Act

You know how well I’ve shown you the documents, links, and resources which tie these 3. When you factor in ‘at-risk’ students, however, you are going to get Civil Rights groups, Drop Out groups, social justice/awareness groups, and anti-poverty groups.
Warriors, do NOT misunderstand me. I am NOT anti-education; anti-job; or anti-rehabilitation. But as evidence has shown us, when our Congress is bending anything AND everything to meet the CCSS Machine’s agenda of any and all education/education related, or service related activity to the workforce based education system SOMETHING it’s definitely toxic.

ESSA has definitive language for ‘at-risk’ students. One of the chief ties in ESSA connected to these students is WIOA. Here’s an excerpt you’ll need, “The Department of Labor has administered the YouthBuild program since September 2006. The YouthBuild program is administered by the Employment and Training Administration’s Office of Workforce Investment, Division of Youth ServicesYouthBuild is a community-based alternative education program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24. Youth learn construction skills while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods.” See the entire article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/silent-partners/

From August 2016, this article will give you an easy trail to connect the National Drop Out Prevention Network to ESSA AND the UN’s 2030 Goals for global education
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/08/31/this-is-our-choice/

So, The House of Representatives Wants an Update:

I guess the rhetorical question should be WHY is Congress being allowed to create legislation which violates our U.S. Constitution? Think about it, these honored public servants take oaths to protect their State level Constitutions, but they ALSO take an oath to protect (at ALL costs) our U.S. Constitution!

To see the ‘facts’ the House has put together about this update 1974 Law:
http://democrats-edworkforce.house.gov/imo/media/doc/2016-06-22%20HR%205529%20HSIs%20fact%20sheet.pdf

To see the House’s Summary of why this is a great idea to update this Law:
http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/bill_summary_-_supporting_youth_opportunity_and_preventing_delinquency_act.pdf
(*Note: look at the familiar words or phrases we’ve seen connected to ESSA, WIOA, and HEA)

Key things this updated Law will mandate for the States:
a) It’s 96 pages long
b) It re-authorizes AND improves its predecessor (Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974)
c) ‘The improvements’? “other purposes”. We’ve seen this when ESEA was re-authorized, and a plethora of other fed laws. This is how bills with one purpose suddenly morphs into a multi-purpose bill.
d) From Page 3, “‘‘(4) to support a continuum of evidence-based  or promising programs (including delinquency prevention, intervention, mental health, behavioral  health and substance abuse treatment, family services, and services for children exposed to violence)  that are trauma informed, reflect the science of adolescent development, and are designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth and youth who come into contact with the justice system.’’.”
(*Note: considering the evidence by other anti CCSS Warriors about the use of Title One funding for behavior management, that should be warning enough.)
e) On Page 6, I saw ‘data mining’, shortly followed by ‘chemical agents’, then ‘isolation’. I don’t need to tell you the chemical agents were spelled out. Very creepy!
f) On the top of Page 7, that ‘isolation’ is defined as 1o minutes or more. Again, creepy! (Be sure you look at the medical personnel involved. Also, be sure to see the reference to ‘restraints’.)
g) On Page 8, the descriptions of how students are identified as ‘at risk’ and in need of behavior interventions.
h) On Page 9, the assessments included will include ‘previous records’, you can bet transcripts or report cards will be included.
i)  On Page 10, the pointers to psychology measures. Think about all the anti CCSS research which has pointed in that direction.
j) Page 11 begins the section for long term juvenile justice systems. Consider the documented cases already in the media about children as young as Kindergarten being put on suspension.

Look at this:

k) On pages 16 and 17 the in-school offenses and data collection via the U.S. Dept. of Ed are revealed. Here’s an article which will encompass most of the groups and student populations discussed so far:
 https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/conformity-readiness/

Closing:

Warriors, there is SO much more in this U.S. House of Representatives bill. As you can see, we haven’t even made it to Page 20 and look at all the ties! I’m not sure about you, but this type of legislation grieves my soul tremendously.
Please, look at the rest of this Bill! If you have connections you easily see, share them! You know I am open to sharing information so we can be as equipped as possible. If you think you see a red flag, that usually means there is one.

Fed Ed, 2017, Are You Ready?

strainface
If we haven’t felt the pain yet, we are about to!

Usually, on Thursdays, I delve into the CCSS Machine’s overreach into post-secondary education, but today I am focusing on the President’s Fiscal Year Budget request he has just given Congress. Why should, we, those opposed to Common Core, College and Career Readiness, Career Tech Education, and all the rest of the CCSS Machine’s grinding America down? Because a whopping amount of OUR taxpayers dollars are going to be used in our educational system!

The Announcement:

Released just a couple of days ago (2/9/16), this blog article spells out the millions of dollars our President is asking to go for specific educational programs. But, before we look into them, here is a screen shot:
2017edbud
(If you need to enlarge the picture, click on it.)

The Details of the Announcement:

In case you would like the link: http://blog.ed.gov/2016/02/equity-and-excellence-in-the-presidents-budget-for-education-2/
(*Note: Part One’s Article address the money to be used for Teachers and School Leaders, Part Three? Oh, college access and completion. You can bet there will be tons of CCSS/CTE/CCR* alignment there! I will be researching those as well.)
*CCSS/CTE/CCR means Common Core State Standards/Career Tech Education/College and Career Readiness

To access the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Budget Highlights: 2017budget-factsheet

The following is a summary. As always, I encourage you to read for yourselves and take what you need to best fit your fight Against Common Core.

1) The total Budget request “includes $69.4 billion in discretionary funding, an increase of $1.3 billion over the 2016 appropriation.”

2) The 3 pronged goals for so much taxpayer money are high-quality early learning; stronger and more diverse schools; and increased access to evidence and data to help all of us improve outcomes for students.”

3) For your little students (Pre-Kindergarten), you can expect “high-quality preschool programs for 4-year-olds with $1.3 billion in mandatory funding in 2017 and $75 billion over 10 years for the President’s landmark Preschool for All proposal.”

What is the Preschool for All? Great question, Warriors! To see the ‘need to know sheet’ from the White Househttps://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/02/14/what-you-need-know-about-president-obamas-plan-provide-high-quality-early-education-

One of the biggest items which sticks out to me, as a researcher, is the Early Head Start part of the Plan. Why? Refer back to my disturbing article about Early Head Start, which pre-dates the passage of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), but as you will see, plays right into the Budget Plans. Access it:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/07/04/sic-em-saturday-pint-sized-common-core/
The other biggies which stick out? Special needs and early behavior interventions! My article above will address some of the planned social and emotional manipulation. For what this means for special needs little ones (like their IEPs), see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/03/10/rmt-ccsss-present-to-special-needs/

4) For any student/school: $450 million in additional funding for Title I Grants, for a total of $15.4 billion to help local educational agencies ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for college and careers…” The biggest targets? Low performing schools. Much research by myself and others has been shared about what exactly all the Title One funding and the plans for LEAs (Local Education Agencies) ensuring CCR (college/career readiness). It is quite disturbing. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/21/weekend-news-the-state-of-ccsss-sel/ (*Note: this article will also give you an insight into the low-income students.)

5) For your communities:$120 million in grants to launch Stronger Together, a voluntary program to support the development and expansion of new and existing, community-driven strategies to increase socioeconomic diversity in America’s schools.”

What is ‘Stronger Together’? While the U.S. Dept. of Education AND the White House do not openly share where you can find an initiative with this exact title, I did find one federal level department WHICH does have a “Stronger Together” set of initiatives. Which one? The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Service’s SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service’s Administration).

Why would this be a concern? In all the years I have researched the push for national educational standards, the one trifecta (if you will) in all of this reform, has repeatedly been the U.S. Departments of Education; Health and Human Services; and Labor.

Also, of a concern is the fact the U.S. is not the only country with “Stronger Together” initiative, not to mention the special interest groups in America with the same title! This should cause great concern for us as we wage War Against the Core! If the SAMSHA set is indeed what the federal budget is referring to, here is the link:  http://www.samhsa.gov/faith-based-initiatives (*Note: the logo will be where you see the ‘Stronger Together’ words.)

As far as how SAMSHA fits in the CCSS Machine, see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/08/tech-thursday-technically-speaking-for-ccss/ (*Note: this article will also show you the top-down approach with all sorts of programs connected to Head Start, Early Head Start, and more!)

6) For all families, more ‘school choice’, via public charters and magnet schools:
“The budget includes an additional $17 million for Charter School Grants and an additional $18 million for magnet schools.”

If you do not know how public (and private) charters are tied to the CCSS Machine, see: http://ladyliberty1885.com/2014/07/07/guest-post-common-core-in-charters-private-homeschools/ (*Charter schools begin about halfway down the page.)

Then my look at those major charter school managing companies,
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/ftf-tuesday-clarity-for-sale-aligned-to-common-core-for-free/

Magnet schools? I found a lot of information as to how these schools are tied to the CCSS Machine while researching the candidates for the upcoming primary election for NC Dept. of Public Instruction Superintendent! To see the entire section,
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/17/weekend-news-nc-primary-part-one/ (scroll down until you see “Schools of Excellence” and begin there.)

Related  to Magnet Schools and the ESSA which are worth pointing out:

Back in Jan. 2015, I shared with you an article detailing the Every Child Achieves Act, ECAA (one of the many names given to what has become ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act).
Back then, ECAA, was merely an amendment to the NCLB (No Child Left Behind), which is what ESSA was replacing when signed into law.
Here is a direct quote about magnet schools from the ECAA“magnet  schools that will substantially strengthen the knowledge of academic subjects and the attainment of tangible and marketable career, technological, and professional skills of students attending such schools..”

Now, why bring this up? Some of the same language from ECAA is now in the ESSA. One example is ‘challenging state academic standards’! This phrase is uses countless times in the ESSA and interchanged with College/Career Readiness..all educratic buzz-worthy phrases for Common Core! To see if you can identify any other phrases from ESSA which were founded in ECAA, see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/18/rmt-will-you-help/

7) “Computer Science for All” will receive a whopping $4 billion over 3 years. (I just related that to the ESSA’s digital/data overhaul in:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/02/05/weekend-news-the-ies-and-the-essa/

8) “Promise Neighborhoods” will get $55 million. How is this tied to the CCSS Machine or the ESSA? I have it all detailed right here: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/04/meet-your-new-neighbor-essa-seriously/

Tying the Budget to the Law:

ESSA’s Final Conference Report (the 1059 page basis for the 391 page Law by the same name), the following sections address where the 2017 Budget money could be applied IF approved by Congress. I repeatedly refer to the Conference Report for consistency in my writing.

Sections 4001-4206 will address 21st Century Community Learning Centers (where a large portion of the Title One funds will be used)
Sections 4301-4311 will address the Charters Schools
Sections 4401-4409 detail Magnet Schools
Sections 4501-4506 address Family Engagement in Education
Section 4601- 4611 detail National Activities in Education
Section 9212 is all about Preschool development grants
Pages 120, 166, 170, 184, 252, 254, 341, 364, 365, 439, 626 all deal with either other details of PreK programs or how the family will be involved in them as well.

Closing:

Warriors, be sure to know I will go over Parts 1 and 3 of this news from the U.S. Dept. of Ed and share with you the ties to the ESSA.

RMT Sunday: Beware of ‘Project AWARE’?!

Today’s “Riddle Me This” is geared toward finding the connecting ties between the federal overreach in education, the students, families, CCSS, 21st Century Community Centers, and more.

“Now is the Time” Initiative:

So as not to confuse you, the full title for Project AWARE is “Now is the Time” Project AWARE. I make a point to share this so that when you go to conduct a general search you can get straight to the initiative that is special to education. There are many “Project Aware” groups already out there. Each with a different purpose, but not for what we focus on today.

The U.S. federal agency the Project is housed in is the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration) Website: http://www.samhsa.gov/grants/grant-announcements/sm-14-018, according to this particular page of SAMHSA, the entire goal is,
“The purpose of the NITT-AWARE-SEA Cooperative Agreement program is to build and expand the capacity of State Educational Agencies to increase awareness of mental health issues among school-aged youth, provide training for school personnel and other adults who interact with school-aged youth to detect and respond to mental health issues in children and young adults, and connect children, youth, and families who may have behavioral health issues with appropriate services. The intent of NITT-AWARE-SEA is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated program for advancing wellness and resilience in educational settings for school-aged youth.” Now, before we go a bit further..ask yourselves..with all the meltdowns our students are having as a result of Common Core, with all the efforts to cut out parents, who will be the ones determining what is and isn’t a behavior issue? What guidelines are used in determining ‘resilience’?

The pdf document behind it all is from the White House and titled “Now is the Time: The President’s Plan to Protect our Children and Communities from Gun Violence”. Released in 2013 just after Sandy Hook (see: wh_now_is_the_time_full) From within the document, not only will data collection be a key component, but the Centers for Disease Control will be awarded research funds to study the ties between video games, multimedia images and violence, that is IF Congress gives the okay for $10 million to do so. Then, there’s this aspect, Doctors and other health care providers also need to be able to ask about firearms in their patients’ homes and safe storage of those firearms, especially if their patients show signs of certain mental illnesses or if they have a young child or mentally ill family member at home. Some have incorrectly claimed that language in the Affordable Care Act prohibits doctors from asking their patients about guns and gun safety.”

Let me pause us here to ask a couple of questions. Have we not seen an increase in the violation of privacy not only at schools but also at the doctor’s office? If the agenda for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers continues on, who’s to say which group of people will be consider the ‘other health care providers’? What about the increase in digital dependency for learning? Who know what images are seen by the students.

Another key component to the “Now is the Time” is the presence of even more school resource personnel (including mental health professionals  AND counselors trained to offer a nurturing environment. You may be asking, well, what’s so questionable about this? What am I trying to get you to see? Well, through the scope of CCSS, the agenda that goes with it, two things. First, the nurturing of a child is a parental responsibility NOT a school’s. Second, with all the CCSS training, purposeful alignment school counselors are receiving, I have to wonder about the presence of MORE personnel..especially in the name of ‘safety’s sake’. Now, please do NOT misunderstand me. I realize there are children who need extra support and that’s great, however, we shouldn’t be adding non-school related services to a school environment. But, then again when you are trying to align a community to the ‘cradle to career’ or even ‘cradle to grave’ mindset,  you gotta do what you gotta do. (If you’ve not read my published post about school guidance counselors being aligned to CCSS, please see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/)

This report continues on with all kinds of federal agencies, federal funds, and federal plans to ensure how schools will be safe. Why are the local districts, states, and citizens marginalized? The states are sovereign, NOT the federal government! You’ll need to read the report to see which federal level agencies are a part of this.

According to this report, mental health patients need to be identified early. I’m all for that, as the parent of two bipolar students, I know mental health is important. However, it’s the WAY the students are to be treated, and by whom, I’m most concerned about. Why? Read this excerpt, “Project AWARE includes $15 million for training for teachers and other adults who interact with youth to detect and respond to mental illness in children and young adults.” The phrase coined was “Mental Health First Aid” and teachers would be the respondents. Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t want my bipolar children diagnosed or treated for their issues by a teacher, I expect a trained, licensed bipolar specialist to help them. The teachers should be teaching! Teachers can’t teach what they need to because CCSS limits them, but they can become mental health care givers?! How will this happen? We’ll have to see, but I can tell you the report shares not long after teachers becoming first aid givers for mental health that MORE money to train MORE health care personnel is in the plan as well. It even shares how the Secretaries of Education and Health/Human Services are the ones guiding the conversations. Seriously?! Finally, on the subject of mental health in our young people, the Affordable Health Care will expand who’s covered, how much is covered in mental health services.

Back to Project AWARE:

If you go back to the website about the Grant announcements for Project AWARE, you’ll see more data mining, sharing..all in the name of schools, education, and a well balanced student. “It can assist by expanding state capacity to collect and utilize population data in order to develop and implement science informed policies and programs in schools and communities to ensure comprehensive approaches to create safe and supportive schools that address the mental health needs of young people. This will also include broadening efforts to coordinate and integrate across service systems including education, mental health, juvenile justice and law enforcement and supporting the development of approaches to integrate state and local comprehensive plans for infrastructure, services, and supports focused on the well-being and healthy development of children, youth, and young adults.” You’ll also see an expansion from not just a federal level, but state levels to be authorized to train lay people, have LEAs receive more money, authority! How is this being ushered in? Those ESEA documents! See the excerpt below:

“State Educational Agencies (SEAs) as defined by section 9101(41) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and applicants for this grant announcement are required to also apply for the ED SEA School Climate Transformation grant.”

So, just what does the “AWARE” mean in Project AWARE? ‘Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education’

How does my school district get this money? Through your state board of education. Here’s an example, I found when I typed in ‘Project AWARE Common Core’ in my search bar. An announcement from Illinois. You’ll need to click on the picture below to see the press release from 10/14:

You won't see CCSS in the press release, but search the IL State Board of Education and you'll find it.
You won’t see CCSS in the press release, but search the IL State Board of Education and you’ll find it.

Another example? From MN, a blog post that features anti CC warrior Dr. Karen Effrem discussing Project AWARE, CCSS, and students. See: http://ppjg.me/2014/07/09/minnesota-schools-common-core-and-mental-health/

Yet another example comes from the CCHR (Citizens Commission on Human Rights, St. Louis, MO) back in 2013, “As a result of psychiatric and psychological intervention in schools, harmful behaviorist programs and psychotropic (mind-altering) drugs now decimate our schools. These programs have trampled on the rights and roles of parents and have provided society with rising crime, drug abuse and suicide rates. Contact your local, state and federal representatives and let them know what you think about turning our schools into mental health clinics and turning our children into mental health patients.” The group encourages you to check out their pdf about the dangers of schools being turned into mental health clinics. (see: http://www.cchrstl.org/education.shtml#) Here’s just a small quote from the introduction to the PDF, “According to educators, academic, knowledge–based curricula has been jettisoned in favor of psychology that places the emotions and belief systems above educational outcomes.”

Here’s what the U.S. Dept of Ed had to say: http://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/us-department-education-invests-more-70-million-improve-school-climate-and-keep-

While you’re at the Dept of Ed website, type in the full name of AWARE (advancing wellness and resilience in education in their search bar and just look at the descriptors you get in the results). You’ll see the goal is more about transforming what a school offers, what it does than how well it educates.

Closing:

So, my fellow anti CCSS friends, did we solve the riddle today? Should we be watchful of Project AWARE? Absolutely! I hope you’ve found some useful information to help you uncover where Project AWARE is in your school’s plan. Have a story about the Project you’d like to share? Please do!! We must help each other gain awareness about the back doors groups, funds, and those with a CCSS, ‘cradle to grave’ mindset have.
