Truthful Banter

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, we’re not far from Halloween. As we’ve seen in previous years, many of us fed up with Common Core, used the season to make up flyers, treats, or similar items to raise awareness. While the awareness has been raised, it hasn’t been enough to stop Congress from continuing the overreaches into education.

We know CCSS (now called “College and Career Readiness” is a horror!

candycorn(Source for image, emphasis added is mine.)

However, this year, try something a bit different. Try a short video. No, you don’t have to create one (although you could, if you like). There’s a Monty Python skit from 1969 that will send a very vivid picture of what we are seeing in education. Wait, what? Monty Python?! Yes.

We know the shift in education is all about pigeon-holing us into jobs. Jobs some test said we’d be good at, regardless of the fact our desires may be somewhere else. Monty Python ‘nailed’ this is their 6 minute skit. If you not seen it, here it is. It’s called “Vocational Guidance Counselor”. Start the video at the 51 second time mark.

If you can’t watch the clip or you can’t stand Monty Python, here’s my summary.

A grown man walks into the guidance counselor’s office. The counselor greets him with the news that his career test results have arrived. The counselor tells the man “Based on test, we have a clear picture of you. I can say without hesitation that the job for you is
chartered accountant.” The man responds with “But I already AM an accountant. You’re not listening, that’s what I’ve been and I want something different.” He continues, “I want something new, something exciting–something that let’s me live!” The man then describes how bored he is as an accountant.  He’s dissatisfied, feels stifled in life.

Basically he’s confined to a job he hates. Finally, the counselor asks what the man wants to do. Excitedly, the man answers with ‘lion tamer’. His eyes light up, his body language shows happiness.

Instead of finding the man a lion taming job, the counselor steers every bit of the conversation back to accounting. Systematically destroying the desire to tame lions.
The counselor is ‘slick’ with the dialogue. Tells the man he could get to lion taming via accounting, but it would be a long journey he may never complete. Telling the man “It’s a different path from A to B.” The counselor begins to patronize the man by saying, “If I call the experts and alert them to this change you want, they will challenge this into submission.” Finally, the counselor just tells the man he’s wrong in wanting to tame lions.

Warriors, this is what is happening every day in schools of all ages and in job placement centers. If it’s not the same scene, it’s very similar. What the Monty Python players hit on is sadly a stark reality in 2018.

Halloween-Ghouls-3
Much like ghouls, the CCSS Machine is consuming our schools.

Warriors, we’ve seen the workforce base shift ruin academics, we’ve seen kids burned out from all the confinement at schools. We’ve seen kids commit suicide over the dullness and sheer meanness existing in education. The ‘education’ is killing them from the inside.

Consider this, based on the skit, adults are facing this, too. Just as they are in 2018 when attending any institution where WorkKeys or similar types of career tracks are given. Why? They (the tests) force CTE (Career Tech Education), apprenticeships, internships, workforce credentials or certificates…not true diplomas!

Think about our teachers, principals, and guidance counselors. I would hope they would see this, stop and think, ‘what am I doing?’ and help us bring an end to all the CCSS Machine degradation and indoctrination.

Maybe, just maybe, it those helping spread this drab alignment could see through a truthful bit of banter that they are contributing to the demise of millions, they’d ‘get it’ and stop in their tracks.

“Quality Provisions” Are A Farce

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, we were last together, I left you with the fact that in the coming days I’d dive into more federal level legislation which is actually setting our nation up to fail in massive ways. Most especially our citizens when it comes to their education…at EVERY level.

If you missed just how badly the Congressional ‘provisions‘ for higher education will fail our students, I encourage you to find out about HR 2859.

ancientscroll

If you’ve not heard of HR 3199, it’s very similar to HR 2859. It also amends the HEA (Higher Education Act), it also will fast-track and data rape students in post-secondary education. It also uses CBE (Competency Based Education) which over-assesses students to the point of utter frustration.

However, HR 3199 targets those who are disabled and/or have special needs.
I wrote about this absolutely horrible bill back in late 2017. I urge you, to re-read it.

globeed

Over in the Senate? Oh, they’ve been busy too, coming up with ways to ‘amend’ the HEA for ‘quality’ and ‘provisions’.

S 2342, Innovation Zone Act:

Currently, this Bill is sitting in the Senate’s HELP Committee. S 2342, would literally use your student’s ‘higher education success’ as as experiment (voluntary, of course) in ‘statutory and regulatory flexibility’. Warriors, that’s double speak for:
Data mining, increasing how much information your student retains, reducing debt connected to higher education, as well as, placing all the power to choose/conduct/assess these experiments at the feet of Sec. DeVos.

Which schools will she choose? That depends on which post-secondary schools volunteer. “Bonuses” will be given to any school which wishes to ‘fast track’ their cooperation.
Anywhere between 5 and 100 schools will be all that are needed to carry out this 10 year experiment. The IES (Institute of Educational Sciences) will also be in on all the data tracking (aka ‘student data rape’) going on.

P3s( public private partnerships) which come with ‘innovation’ and data mining will be allowed to be involved in the experimentation using OUR citizens! On Page 2, lines 20 and 21, are most concerning in the amount of gray area is given to what else will be included in this experiment. Basically, any ‘innovation’ U.S. Dept. of Education chooses which will ‘benefit’ your student.

What else? Any school in this experiment will become known as an ‘innovation zone’.

fedinnovationgrants
(Article where you will find this picture)

Warriors, we’re seeing how Congress is using the word ‘innovation’ against us in K-12th grades, do we really trust them when our kids are adults?!

(*Note: in the current Senate version of the re-authorization for HEA, S 615 (Higher Education Innovation Act), you will be able to see how the word is a cruel deceptive word used intentionally.)

Warriors, again, a pausing moment. I am NOT trying to be the doomsday alarmist in the War Vs the Core. We KNOW we cannot take these federal bills at their word. Deception run amuck is what is happening.

When D.C. leaves a ‘gray’ area, we SHOULD be demanding answers! When the CCSS Machine helps create these bills using our kids as experiments AND gives the Secretary of Education a HUGE increase in power over them, we SHOULD be storming D.C.!

HR 2590:

Also giving DeVos another boost in power is HR 2590 (Computer Science for All Act). My article on HR 2590 will show you more, but note that via this bill, DeVos is to award grants throughout K-12th grade education for as much computer indoctrination as possible. “Computer Science for All” was an Obama-era White House created initiative which has since been codified in ESSA. (Source)

(*Note: my 2017 article exposing the CCSS Machine’s effort to glorify the ‘father of computer science’ will give you lots of related background information.)

HR 3636 and S 1694, “Educator Preparatory Reform Act”:

Warriors, these ‘sisters’ will also go hand in hand with the student abuse. When you think about it, they have to. As we’ve been told by the CCSS Machine guru, Bill Gates, the assessments drive the curriculum. Well, the curriculum AND assessments drive the teachers!
If you’ve not seen the article I wrote on how abusive ESSA’s language to teachers (concerning their pay) is, please take a few minutes to review it.

So, what do HR 3636 and S 1694 have in common?
a) Both were introduced in August 2017.
b) Both sit in their respective Committees (3636 is in the Education and Workforce; 1694 is in the HELP).
c) Both are 52 pages long.
d) Both amend the HEA.
e) Both appear to be carbon copies of each other. I’ll highlight a few items from each Bill below.

S 1694 broadens the definition of ‘educator’. While ‘teacher’ is included, basically anyone who could be leading your student in the classroom (or across the campus) will have the ‘educator’ label. Warriors, by redefining who is able to educate this opens the door for all kinds of trouble. (*Note, the embedded link to my article laying out how ESSA’s doing this, click on ‘pay’, above.)

Also in S 1694 will be data mining from formative and summative assessments from the students K-12th grade education. The data will be carried through in post-secondary education as well as the same national, state, and, local assessments. Warriors, this will tie back to Title One funding. It’ll also tie back to Perkins funding (which feeds the CTE, Career Tech Education arm of the CCSS Machine).

HR 3636 will show you the sections of the HEA which will be redesignated, especially for teachers. This is just before the same redefining of who qualifies as an educator. On Pages 7 and 8, you’ll need to see what the principals will now be responsible for in your communities. (Warriors, is it only me, or did you notice that a Bill for amending HEA is addressing K-12 principals?)

Also from HR 3636, you’ll see how the teacher training is heavily dependent on their assessments. This will also be part of Title 2 funding. This, of course, opens the flood gates for the CCSS Machine’s P3s (public private partnerships) in PD (professional development), Warriors. We’ve seen this happen quite heavily in K-12th education, as well as post-secondary for a while now. (*Note: in case you missed my latest article about this type of alignment, go here.)

Closing:

Warriors, because these two Bills will impact every single type of post-secondary educator, we MUST alert our fellow Warriors; our family members or friends who are among this particular group, and, our leaders.

As far as ‘quality’, I see none in any of these Bills.

In my next article, Warriors, I’ll show some more federal education legislation and the continued farce-worthy leadership being exerted against We the People.

Know Thy Local Board, Parts 1 and 2

Part One:

Warriors Against Common Core, how well do you know your local school board? Are you a school board member? If so, how well do you know the State laws for your important position in the community? If you are a school board member, read what I’ve found and ask yourself, ‘Am I okay with this?’
These questions and more await us in today’s in-depth article.

The Search Began:

I was recently contacted by a concerned NC citizen. She needed help in figuring out what is State law for school boards, does local policy adhere to State law, and, is there any policy which side-steps the State, and goes to a federal level of compliance. All excellent questions.

I shared with her I’d already found one NC county school board with a local policy which, from all appearances, seems to side-step the State of NC and pledge compliance to the federal level. (See below)

caldwell1

Warriors, I profess that I am not a lawyer, but with a policy which reads like this, it certainly calls into question, why is a county school board appearing to go around the State law to pledge adherence at the federal level?

FYI: The ‘NC Standard Course of Study’, aka, ‘Essential Standards’ (Common Core rebrand) are written into State law. Look for NC General Statute 115C, Article 8.

While I didn’t find a similar policy for the county I was contacted about, what I found in our State law is worth sharing. It also gives us some BIG questions to have answered!

Part Two:

The School Board Laws In NC General Statute 115C, Article 5:

1) Access the Statute here. You’ll notice that the specific legislation is 22 pages. One of the most immediate concerns we should all be thinking ahead about: Will school boards across America change much under the ESSA mandates?

1’s Reality: Here in NC, our school boards are locally elected. However, not every State is the same. Elected or not, what does it mean locally? ESSA  increases power, both at federal and State levels.

2) In the paragraph marked 115C-36 (Page 1), Said boards of education shall have general control and supervision of all matters pertaining to the public schools in their respective administrative units and they shall enforce the school law in their respective units.”
The big questions: What is ‘school law’? Does the ‘enforcement’ mean ‘any and all measures’? What group holds the school board in check to ensure local citizens there’s no manipulation of the assigned power?

2’s Reality: Under ESSA, all education MUST be aligned to post-secondary readiness as defined by WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). WIOA is not a specific ‘school law’. It DOES encompass education, but it is, after all, a U.S. Dept. of Labor law. How will NC, or, for that matter, ANY State, fare locally with their school boards when a workforce based law dictates education?!

3) Near the bottom of Page 2 and continuing on Page 3, “The local board of education shall revise electoral district boundaries from time to time as provided by this subsection.”
Wait, What?! Yes, according to NC Law, local boards can adjust districts. BUT these are depedent on federal Census information. Supposedly, the benefit is financial, BUT, consider these realities, Warriors:

a) The Census is being used by the CCSS Machine to orchestrate neighborhoods, manhandle museums and libraries, and more. From right here, in the town I live in, an excerpt from this article about local control and federal overreach.
“* You will see lots of data (includes the U.S. Census) and graphs used to support the moves; you’ll see the increased push for social and economic equality;”

b) ESSA’s codification of Promise Neighborhoods, as well as the continued creation of 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

c) Does your State have ‘Prosperity Zones’? NC does. There’s even another State Statute in place to streamline jobs and their training. By now, we know that ESSA is the ‘missing link’ between jobs and training. While the article about the Zones is from 2015, you can see just how overreaching the federal government is and how State districts will directly play into the overreaches.

4) Page 4, under the paragraph 115C-40, this excerpt, “Local boards of education, subject to any paramount powers vested by law in the State Board of Education or any other authorized agency shall have general control and supervision of all matters pertaining to the public schools in their respective local school administrative units;”
Your big question here should be, does my State have similar language? If so, what other agencies in addition to the SBE, have control over my school board? What about heavy influence over the school board, is there a tie to the CCSS Machine?

5) Pages 9-21 spell out the 63 responsibilites and powers  local school boards in NC have, as well as are authorized to carry out. I won’t list all 63, but, I will point to the ones we should all be looking at, regardless of where you live. Each will be followed by a question to consider.
5’s Realities: a)  “To Provide the Opportunity to Receive a Sound Basic Education”, page 9.
Who decides the soundness of a basic education? ESSA says the States must have the Secretary of Education’s approval for what’s taught. Where’s the local control there?

b) “To Regulate Extracurricular Activities”. With ESSA’s 24/7/365 mandate for anytime, anywhere learning (you can’t have student achievement without being hooked to a computer device), this is going to be almost impossible for local school boards to carry out.
(Refer back to the embedded articles above about wrap around services in the community.)

c) “To Accept and Administer Federal or Private Funds”, page 10. Warriors, this is huge!
ESSA increases the amount of P3s in our schools. P3s are public-private partnerships. We have seen the damage of P3s in our educational systems across America. One of the biggest supporters for interferring business with education is Business RoundtableBR was big on Common Core; they are also behind CC’s other names: CCR (College and Career Ready) and CTE (Career Tech Education). Let’s not forget some other big names in creating P3 overload in our local schools: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, your State Chambers, and Bill Gates. (*Note: Items 32, 32a, 34, and, 34a on Page 15 are directly related to MORE P3 education through Career Tech Education, Community Colleges, or School-to-Work.)

d) “To Sponsor or Conduct Educational Research”, bottom of Page 10. ESSA’s ‘educational research’ includes an in-home assessment for how well connected to the internet everyone is America is. See my article. Also, Warriors, any time you see ‘educational research’, think of what the underlying activity: data mining. Then, the big question: What group or groups did my local school board hire?

e) “To Adopt Rules and Policies Limiting the Noninstructional Duties of Teachers”, Page 13.
ESSA’s not kind to teachers at all. They are expected to teach to post-secondary readiness, regardless of age or grade, their pay will be factored by overall student success and engagement, AND, they will become quasi-doctors via the social emotional learning and behavior interventions. (*Notes: Look directly below the ‘teachers’ on Page 13 and you’ll see their training, as well as principals. Use all 3 embedded links directly above and apply. Then, refer to Page 18, Items 43 and 46) Our big question here: What pro CCSS/CCR/CTE/STEM groups is my school using at their discretion OR the State’s bidding which train, incentivize, or other wise reward for aligning teachers to ESSA?

f) Page 15, “To Appoint Advisory Councils”. This is legalized in yet another NC State General Statute. Appointing key positions is dangerous. No vote means no voice. This, in the long run, mutes the taxpayer’s and parent’s voices. Big question: Are these ‘advisors’ local or are they somehow connected to the educational reform?

Closing:

I noticed in searching some of the NC local school board policy pages, that more than 1 have not only our State Board of Ed to satisfy, but AdvancED, too. What is AdvancED? A  sold out CCSS Machine member organization. In my County, the exact words are:
“Maintain accreditation of its schools by AdvancED and/or the State Board of Education.”

We’ll pick this up in my next article, Warriors. We’ll also address how city school boards, private schools, home education, and, charters authorities will be treated in the ‘ESSA Era’

I See, Do You?

Over the weekend, I shared some globally impacting education news. For today’s article (Monday Musings),  I have even more to share. Anti CCSS Warriors, hang on, there are sure to be many parts of the CCSS Machine exposed.

The Webinar, Again:

In case you didn’t read my Weekend News, here is the link.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/05/22/ed-for-sale/
The Webinar I am discussing in today’s article, is embedded in the News and can also be accessed: http://www.edweek.org/ew/marketplace/webinars/webinars.html#archived

Hosting the Webinar was EdWeek (Gates Foundation funded) and the ISC (International School Consultancy). The topic? Global businesses in education and their profit potentials, especially with the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) now law.

The ‘Hosts With the Most…’:

1) The most educational P3 (public private partnerships) in mind, not the academic quality of your student’s education.
2) The hosts have the most diabolical workforce based credentialing system in place and are using it without abandon, globally.
The fact that the US now has federal laws* which not only support workforce based education, but mandate it, should be of no surprise to us, as those opposed to the CCSS/Fed Ed Machine. We should be able to see that many key events, organizations, and agenda points are geared carefully for the continued shift in American education.

(*Note: WIOA, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014; ESSA of 2015; HEA, Higher Education Act of 2008 and is being re-written now to be passed into new federal law soon. All 3 laws have the CCSS embedded. You will find it under Career Pathways, Career Tech Education, College/Career Readiness, STEM, post-secondary readiness, and/or Career Clusters. Of special note, ESSA uses ‘challenging state academic standards’. The CCSS agenda is STILL there, just a name change to try to fool us.)

Seeing Through the Hype:

As a long time researcher against Common Core and all that goes with it, it takes a tremendous amount to shock me when it comes to the vastness of the CCSS Machine, as I refer to the education reform. While most of the Webinar’s attendees appeared to be blown away by the information packed into all those PowerPoint slides and spoken words, I was not. I was disgusted. I know you are too, Warriors.

Seeing Through ISC:

As I stated above, ISC (International School Consultancy) was a co-host. What or who is behind ISC? Let’s see what we can discover. Below is what the home page looks like. Notice the number of country flags you see.

ischome
The website: http://www.iscresearch.com/
The company is big on educational research for not only K-12, but post-secondary, too.
ISC is based in the United Kingdom, but has offices all over the globe. They also partner with some well known CCSS Machine members. For example, College Board is one. Why? All that data mining information! However, before we delve into the CCSS Machine partners, take a look at this one minute video about ISC.

As far as those CCSS Machine member partners….

1) To see all of them: http://www.iscresearch.com/company/partners.aspx
2) ECIS (European Council of International Schools), ECIS also is a member of the Council of International Schools, CIS.
3) CIS has a specialized Child Protection Task Force where you can also find the U.S. State Dept.’s Overseas Branch for Education as a banner member.
(Task Force’s website: http://www.cois.org/page.cfm?p=2465, as seen below in the screen shot.)

cis

4) As far as the U.S. State Department’s education branch, it has an OSAC (Overseas Schools Advisory Council). That Council? It is FULL of Private businesses!!

statedept
5) This Council also partners with the National Association of Elementary School Principals Foundation. NAESP is tied to the CCSS Machine in many ways.
They are the ones who gave us “GRIT” in our schools, which positively championed for the ESSA’s passage, and more disgusting education reform moves. Here is one of my previously published articles on the Principals. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/weekend-news-ccss-school-officials-alignment/
5a) As far the Foundation portion of the Principals? Tied to the United Way, UW.
United Way is also internationally tied to the CCSS Machine! Here is just one of the UW articles I have. You can usually find UW where you find Promise Neighborhoods (now, a mandated part of the ESSA.) See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/04/30/weekend-news-for-the-war-against-the-core/

6) College Board, we already have lots of information on them.

As you access some of the previous research I have done, notice the OTHER federal level American government agencies; the repeated use of some of the same CCSS Machine members; and, how all this fits oh-so-nicely with the global information research.

Is There More?!

Oh, yes, Warriors, there is. Much like the ‘Song That Never Ends’, the CCSS Machine grinds on.
A couple of odd notes from the Webinar you may want to investigate on your own.
1) The OERs, Open Educational Resources are becoming big profit makers for those making money off our schools and at our students/teachers expense. One of the EdWeek’s favorite resources for OERs is known as CMX powered by EdGate. EdGate is a division of EdMin.
To access the OERs for CMS, See: https://correlation.edgate.com/cmx/login.php
This OER website is for teachers AND students. It aligns with not only CCSS, but CTE (Career Tech Education), too. CTE is embedded in both the WIOA and the ESSA.
2) To see EdMin’s tie to international workforce based education, see the screen shot below.

edmin
Link to the international CTE information: http://www.edmin.com/news/cte-cctc-international-and-supplemental-standards-added-edgate-repository-standards
3) The International Teacher Standards were also featured in the Webinar.
To access these, see: http://www.theptc.org/ttc-standards/
One name to note: Bambi Betts. Her name is also seen above in the CIS screen shot, but with a different named organization. In the CIS shot, she is representing the Academy of International School Heads. Her connection to the International Teacher Standards is organization which has the Standards, the Principal’s Training Center, PTC. PTC is based in Florida. To see PTC’s member schools (all with international education in mind),
http://www.theptc.org/current-members/

(*Special note, when visiting the PTC website, be sure to scroll over the “Standards”. You can select International Teacher, Principal, or Counselor.)

To understand why I pointed out Betts to you, see below:

betts

You can also tie Betts back to the ISC (International School Consultancy). She authors a regular column in TIE ( The International Educator), a partner group of ISC. If you would like to see Bambi Betts’ brief bio: http://www.theptc.org/bambi-betts/ (*notice the absence of American education positions.)

Betts and her PTC organization are hosting a workshop in July 2016. It is geared for school leaders, but targets student assessments. Use this link to find out how the workshop is described, then be sure to click on the web/print resources. It is here you will find many CCSS Machine member assessments. See: http://www.theptc.org/ptc301/

Weekend News: Those Ghouls in Our Schools

Much like ghouls, the CCSS Machine is consuming our schools.
Much like ghouls, the CCSS Machine is consuming our schools.

On this last weekend in October 2015, many of us are using the fall festivals, Halloween parties to help raise awareness toward the damages CCSS, CTE, and all the other ‘alphabet soup’ acronyms we find the CCSS Machine (my name for the CCSSI, or the Common Core State Standards Initiative) where anything connected to CCSS was plotted, planned, and being executed.

We all know what damages we are seeing in our teachers, our students. We’ve seen how our principals, school counselors, school board members, and other educational staff members are being ‘consumed’ with CCSS Machine indoctrination. Some are succumbing to the Initiative, others are NOT. We’ve been horrified by our state leaders and federal representatives (who were elected to serve us) when they’ve also, given in to the ‘fodder of ruin’ and continued to create programs and legislation to continue the ‘cycle of pain’ in our schools.  We’ve also felt our anger at all this injustice rise. We’ve shouted, we’ve cursed, we’ve fought hard, and stood in the way  to protect others from this ‘tide of doom’. So, as one of my fellow anti CCSS warriors has asked (in a way to encourage others to press on)….WHY BOTHER?

We bother because no human being on the face of this planet should have to endure the mental and physical abuse we are seeing in our schools..regardless of preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, or post-secondary schools of all types. The CCSS Machine is grinding away in a plethora of ways. We bother because we know what is good, right, and true ISN’T possible in an illegally based education reform. We fight on, against the all consuming agenda behind the ghouls in our schools, because massive change for the future of our nation is upon us..and IT IS NOT to see our beloved country carry on as it has, but rather to shape it into some hollow image of globalism. We bother because, we, the people, were not consented, our tax dollars used against  our desires and wishes. We bother because the trust we’ve placed in those to lead us, speak for us, and act for us, have abused that sacred privilege without hesitation. We bother because those few brave souls who’ve spoken up, who’ve exercised courage deserve to have our companionship.

We have become activists, speakers, authors, and more importantly, we’ve become champions to those we seek to protect. That reason alone, my fellow anti CCSS Warriors, is paramount to wiping the CCSS ghoulish intent off the map. We find ourselves on the cusp of another new month. Depending on which state you live in, is to how many other months you’ve battled the CCSS Machine. However, the fact is we know that every single day ANY student is exposed to ANY part of the CCSS Machine is one day too many!
Tools to Help Take Down the  Ghouls:

Below are the best tools I’ve found to fight the CCSS Ghouls in D.C.,
1) https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/29/tech-thursday-stemccss-push-making-it-american/
Why this is a set of tools in one article: I’ve shown you in this article how a bill not really connected to education, is being crafted to INCLUDE CCSS/CTE/CCR (Common Core State Standards/Career Tech Education/College, Career Ready) in it. We’ve seen this tactic used repeatedly in D.C. Let’s let them know that the anti CCSS Warriors will not tolerate or support this dirty move any more!

2) https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/ftf-measure-twice-cut-once/
Why this is a tool to use: It shows you how the private side of the P3s (public, private partnerships) is setting our students up for one way of education is becoming the normal in America, rather than the freedom of choice we’ve known for so long.
3) https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/monday-musings-the-ccss-are-you-kidding-me-files/
This article is an eye opener for the hype the CCSS Machine produces on a daily basis. We know the hype is from other sources as well. Use this as an example of looking at those other sources and then SHARE it with others.

Closing:

Know that I will continue to find these CCSS Ghouls where they hide. I’ll expose what plans they intend to unleash in education and SHARE it as far and as wide as I can. No matter the cost, I will NOT stand to see the CCSS Machine take down America, her citizens, or her freedoms. I’m honored you are fighting with me against ANYTHING connected to the CCSS Initiative.

Monday Musings: “Rigor Walk”

Marzano strikes again!
Marzano strikes again!

Anti CC Warriors, have you heard of Dr. Marzano before? If you’ve been fighting Common Core long, his name, his institute should be very familiar. If not, here’s the link to my 3 previously published articles exposing his toxic grasp on education. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/?s=marzano

Walking with Rigor:

As we’ve learned in the War Against the Core, we’ve come to know the CCSS Machine loves the word ‘rigor’. We’ve seen the anti CC Warriors, who’ve pointed out the true definition of the word ‘rigor’. Rigor denotes death, a stiffness that will not be broken. Nowhere in education should we see this kind of attitude with our students OR teachers.
Yet, time and time again, institutes like the one Marzano is in charge of, do just that..dream up and create MORE rigor for our education system! (The name of the institute is “Learning Sciences International”)

According to Marzano’s new “RigorWalk” system, taken directly from their website page, here are the ‘pillars of rigor’:

  • “School climate and culture
  • School leadership practices
  • Cultivation of a growth mindset
  • Professional Learning Communities
  • Rigorous, standards-based instruction
  • Formative assessment implementation”

How does Marzano carry this out in a practical way? On-site interviews; walking the halls of your schools, and data collection! To access the website page, http://www.learningsciences.com/solutions/rigorwalk/

Developers who are credited with creating this system? Dr. Betsy Carter and Dr. Jennifer Reeves (also of the Learning Sciences Institute) To see their biographies featured from a past Marzano Education Conference, http://www.cvent.com/events/building-expertise-2015/speakers-3c184adf9bfd44ca928c4089d245e0b9.aspx (*Note: Dr. Carter’s prior educational system involvement was in Ohio; Dr. Reeves’ was in Florida)

LSI has even provided a YouTube video about “RigorWalk”. It’s almost 1 hour.

Here are the biggest points we, as anti CCSS Warriors need to know:
a) The webinar had a very large audience (which means lots of interest, areas for application of what was covered)
b) About 2 minutes into the webinar, you’ll hear the speakers (Drs. Carter/Reeves) give their educational backgrounds (both state that they’d like schools to be better)
c) In their words, “RigorWalk” is a diagnostic tool which measures the amount of ‘rigor health’ your school has (or doesn’t have, but needs). Once a baseline ‘rigor health’ number is established, it’ll be easier to check the progression to the ideal amount of ‘rigor health’ is met.
d) Near the 3:45 minute mark, listen for their answer to the question of “Why rigor?” (Hint: jobs not yet created)
e) Not long after the question is “d” is asked you’ll hear  that rigor means ‘not specific content’, but ‘how to think’.
f) From the 4:50 minute mark to the 5:42 minute mark listen for the Learning Sciences International approach to creating MORE ‘rigor’ in your schools is. Disguised and ‘sold’ as student autonomy and cognitive complexity. The end goal? “Ready for the work world.”
g) From the 6:49 minute mark until the 7:49 minute mark, the topic of ‘why creating more rigor in schools is so needed NOW.
h) The 7:18 minute mark will reveal what Standards LSI is using, “College and Career Ready Standards” Why, ‘because everyone needs to improve in our schools’. You’ll need to refer to the below screen shot.

Closing:

There’s much more ‘rigor’ in the rest of the presentation, but I want you to experience the You Tube video for yourselves. The bottom line is quite simply this (and the most important action point for us, the anti CCSS Warrior, to take away from all this:

LSI, “RigorWalk”, and all that’s associated with it, will target school leaders FIRST, then the students. School superintendents, district leaders, principals, and teachers.

RMT: Will You Help?

Every second wasted in mediocrity is another supportive move for CCSS aligned workers.
Every second wasted in mediocrity is another supportive move for the “CCSS Machine”.

Here’s the riddle for this Sunday: Want to keep Common Core Standards?

I sure don’t!! However, there are those who not only believe CCSS is the way to go, but are proposing legislation to help keep it for our students. Please continue to read on to see how you can help STOP the “Common Core Machine” dead in its tracks!

Washington Requests Our Input:

An avid reader of my blog and active anti CCSS warrior, Dr. V sent me a ‘heads up’ notice recently. The notice? A Washington, D.C. based legislator wants feedback on his bill to make sure we keep CCSS via an amendment to No Child Left Behind. Now, I know I’m not the only one writing about this, but I feel it only fair to alert you to the fact WE, the warriors AGAINST Common Core have an opportunity to leave feedback for this legislator. We don’t get opportunities like this often, so we need to active swiftly. We need to act with respect while being firm, truthful, AND fierce in what we have to say. Before I get to the body of the bill he’s proposed let me give you a direct quote from the good doctor, “You can write him Chairman Alexander who has asked for input on his proposal here: fixingNCLB@help.senate.gov (Note, the Chairman is actually Senator  Lamar Alexander, a Republican from Tennessee). Why the clock image above matters? Comments will only be taken until Jan. 21st, 2015!!

The Bill:

Officially, this Amendment to the No Child Left Behind Act of 1965 to be known as
“This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Every Child Ready  for College or Career Act of 2015’’ ” The Amendment is over 300 pages (387 to be precise). As my fellow warrior pointed out, on the surface the Amendment is being considered a great thing. BUT, as is usually the case with the Common Core Machine, there’s another side that IS a terrible thing. So, why would the Senator from TN offer this?? We’ll address that riddle AFTER we look into the ‘terrible thing’ embedded in this Amendment.

The Hidden-in-Plain-Sight Agenda?!:

From page 2 of the Amendment,  “SEC. 4. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE.  The purpose of this Act is to restore freedom to parents, teachers, principals and other school leaders, States,  Governors, and local communities so that they can improve their local public schools.” IF this could be a reality, then, yes, it WOULD be a fantastic thing..it would actually be honoring our U.S. Constitution!!

However, let’s look a bit deeper..other things that have been updated (oops, sorry, in legal speak, amended) the definition of ‘college and career ready’ now includes NO Remediation AND closing the skills gap (so I guess the false argument will not be gospel because it’s in an amendment that could become law?) LEA grants will be a whopping $15 billion per year until 2021. Add to that $400 million for assessments. Federal money will be relegated for the states to have ‘technical assistance’ in these 2 areas.

Okay, so , so far, nothing really contradiction-wise yet. After this above information, you’ll begin to see the part of the Amendment that is ‘the States this, the States that’.  The states will be held accountable to the federal government for several things beyond assuring that ‘challenging state academic standards’ have been aligned, adopted, and implemented.  It appears this is especially the case for the English Language Arts and Math (including the participation in the Nation’s Report Card, student data mining, continued teacher assessments, and, because of Perkins Funds and IDEA legislation those ‘career pathways’ will be cemented in education). What I kept noticing is the amount of power the LEAs will be granted under this Amendment (this includes PreK, post-secondary, outside the classroom, etc.)

Other nuggets of a darker side: family financial data as supplied by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, The U. S. Dept. of Commerce’s branch, The Census Bureau (especially their American Community Survey, which is a mandatory on-going process that helps determine how tax dollars are used). For more about the ACS (American Community Survery, see: http://www.census.gov/acs/www/ ,  the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; proposed sharing of assessments, standards on a voluntary basis between states, thereby saving money; ‘Developing challenging State academic standards and aligned assessments in  academic subjects for which standards and assessments are not required..’; ‘Refining State assessments to ensure  their continued alignment with the challenging  State academic standards and to improve the  alignment of curricula and instructional materials.’; ‘Evaluating student academic achievement through the development or improvement
of comprehensive academic assessment instruments, such as performance-based assessments  that emphasize the mastery of standards and  aligned competencies in a competency-based education model, technology-based academic assessments, computer adaptive assessments, and  portfolios, projects, or extended performance  task assessments.
Collaborating with institutions of higher education, other research institutions, or
other organizations to improve the quality, validity, and reliability of State academic assessments.’;
the use of formative and summative testing will continue as well.

Renaming doesn't change alignment of education as a stark reality.
Renaming doesn’t change alignment of education, it is a stark reality, as we’ve experienced.

On page 113, ‘Career Technical Education’ will be replacing ‘Vocational Education’ if this Amendment is adopted. Why is this bad?  CTE (Career Tech Ed) is the Adult version of CCSS! By the end of the page, be sure to note the seemingly harmless word changes. For example, ‘student’s progress’ would be known as ‘improve student achievement’. More of these are in the next few pages which follow.
Page 116 uses a phrase about information being made available to all interested educational parties. From what I’ve researched that could mean almost anyone, especially in the public/private partnerships seeking to redefine education.

Be sure you note the activity the Amendment would allow the Secretary of Education to exercise. (now, bear in mind, in the earlier portions, many restrictions were laid out) If the Secretary were to enact this exercise, Congress would only have 30 available for review/comments, the public would have 90 days. Whatever it is he could put in motion is expected to cause the States tremendous burdens. (see the pages 117-121).

Teacher reform is laid out in detail in this Amendment. So is having school leaders help transform curricula via technology. As with students, the States will have to submit accountability plans for teacher training, etc. (As above, the states accountable to the Feds..hhmm, does anyone sense something amiss??)

Page 145 gives you CCSS without ever mentioning it or the catch phrase ‘challenging state academic standards’. See for yourselves, ” providing programs and activities to  help students prepare for post-secondary level  coursework, including early college or dual enrollment programs, Advanced Placement and  International Baccalaureate programs.” (don’t see the CCSS ties in AP or IB? Consider who oversee AP courses..the College Board. As far as IB? Yes, it’s Common Core via the United Nations) I’ve written about both, as have others who are fighting CCSS. (here’s one of my articles about how indoctrinated IB schools/programs are with CCSS: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/fib-o-meter-friday-ib-international-baccalaureate-schools-common-core/ )

Page 150 states that among all their professional development only certain types of groups will be included. Here’s an excerpt, “promote innovative instruction and learning strategies by nationally recognized organizations with a proven track  record of effectiveness in providing preparation and professional development activities and programs for teachers, principals, and other school leaders, particularly in  underserved areas.”  Pardon me, but who will be responsible for overseeing these ‘proven’ organizations? With so many private businesses with their fingers in the educational mix which don’t have any business there, does this mean they’ll be given the green light to continue to step in and reform education?? Not too far after this section of the Amendment is a bit about money from 2003 that’s not been touched could get tapped IF the Secretary of Education deems it needed. Where would these funds be used? National Programs!

This Amendment also allows for any non-profit OR for-profit entity to jump in a student’s education..as long as achievement is the goal (pages 153, 154).

Par for the course in American education, the Amendment continues to do all it can to promote outcome based education…both for STUDENTS and TEACHERS. Institute of Education Sciences will be key to all the evaluations of effective programs (page 164) This is only a few sentences before a section that tells us the Secretary of Education (or any other federal employee) can’t mandate states. This includes curricula, standards, and assessments.

Pages 189/90 mention National Professional Development Project and a National Clearinghouse. Be sure when you leave comments, you ask for more details about what these are, who they involve.

On beginning on page 193 is the ‘Healthy and Safe Students’. Now, do not misunderstand me, I’m all for healthy and safe students..just not under the federal government’s plan of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (also a huge portion of CCSS, Agenda 21). What do I mean? Read the Amendment text, “The purpose of this title is to improve students safety, health, well-being, and academic achievement during and after the school day by (1) increasing the capacity of local educational  agencies, schools, and local communities..” Items 2 and 3 cover a student’s mental health and drug awareness/abuse. Have we not yet had enough evidence of the federal government’s increased efforts to know this can’t be a good thing?? As far as the mental health component? Several authors, including myself, have stressed grave concerns on CCSS aligned ‘professionals’ charged with the mental health of our students. When you add that money and the allotment of it is added to this, I’d be raising a red flag!

Beginning on page 217 is the “Empowering Parents/Expanding Opportunities” section. Great!? Especially when you find that the empowering/expanding has to do with charter schools and magnet schools. (Note: I have nothing against these 2 educational choices, however, both have been largely considered as CCSS free..guess what? Not!) This section lays out how even MORE charter schools will be provided for. They’ll be known as ‘high quality’ ones. Not sure being concerned about charter schools/CCSS? Read: http://ladyliberty1885.com/2014/07/07/guest-post-common-core-in-charters-private-homeschools/ and https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/ftf-tuesday-clarity-for-sale-aligned-to-common-core-for-free/

As far as the Magnet schools?? “magnet  schools that will substantially strengthen the knowledge of academic subjects and the attainment of tangible and marketable career, technological, and professional skills of students attending such schools..”  Yep, MORE Career Tech Education to be written into law!

Be sure to ask for more information on the “Rural Education Initiative” and the “Rural Education Achievement Program” (page 280) This is yet another big way to write in CTE Common Core Standards garbage.

Page 287 lays out how the Secretary of Education will award in a competition style method money to states with a certain criterion for low-income based schools. (gee, does anyone remember this style of funding?? Can we say “Race to the Top”?) State level agencies will get to award money like this as well..to the satisfaction of the Dept. of Education.

Page 300 makes a point to include the Hawaiian Workforce Development Council in the mix..hhmm..we know Workforce is tied into not only the U.S. Dept. of Labor BUT Career Tech Education, Career Pathways as well. Be sure to ask about your state’s Workforce Council.

Page 318 is where in-home instruction for Alaska students will be impacted. State money will go towards education ‘readiness’ for preschool Native American residents. Near page 323 is how military children(U.S. Dept. of Interior enters the data mix when military activity is involved) will be impacted. I especially found the phrase ‘federally connected children’ unnerving. (NOTE: Puerto Rico and other U.S. Territories are included in this entire document)

How our tax dollars will be collected/used is also included under “Impact Aid”.

Almost at the end of the document is this nugget (pages 348/49) seeking a change in verbiage. As we’ve seen changes in wording are HUGE, especially where CCSS is involved. ” by striking ‘‘until an agreement for the  extension of United States education assistance
under the Compact of Free Association for each of the freely associated states becomes effective after the date of enactment of the No Child Left Behind  Act of 2001’’ and inserting ‘‘except during any period for which Secretary of Education determines  that a Compact of Free Association is in effect and contains provisions for education assistance prohibiting the assistance provided under this Act’’ “

This is followed by the teachers using aligned standards, assessments, curricula, and programs all tied together. (page 350-51)!

Act Now or Forever Hold Your Peace!

If you’ve not read enough to cause you to be extremely wary of this Amendment, I would ask that you review how CCSS got started, where it has spread, who it impacts, how it continues to ‘align and mine’ our students, and it continues to penalize teachers. Our time to act is short, but we MUST act NOW! How can you help? Go to the link featured here, http://www.fixingNCLB@help.senate.gov/

FYI:
The Senator behind this bill is not only a former TN governor, but a Common Core Supporter. See: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2014/03/24/sen-lamar-alexander-let-s-don-t-talk-about-common-core/

Mr. Alexander was also, at one time at a federal level position. To see more about him and to gauge his involvement in CCSS or CTE,
