FTF: This Just In: Military Bases, Economy, and, CCSS

A new pro CCSS report filled with the pro CCSS side’s version of truth is now available for we, the warriors, against CCSS.

The book was announced on Twitter by the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), Dr. June Atkinson, on July 6th, 2015. See below:
drjune

I’ll be sure to post the link so you can access the latest ‘news’, but first, I want to share another report about military families and CCSS. My fellow anti CC Warrior, LadyLiberty1885, pointed out this report from Pioneer Institute. Here’s the lead in sentence: “Study finds college and career readiness focus of Common Core a disconnect with students from Military Families since majority are under seven years old.”  If you’d like to access more about the not surprising statement OR read the rest of the Pioneer findings, visit: http://pioneerinstitute.org/education/new-report-the-successes-and-challenges-of-educating-military-connected-children/

It’s amazing to me how the CCSS Machine and its operators will try to spin everything possible towards keeping the Common Core. Dr. Atkinson, especially. So why is she offering up the latest information about CCSS and the economy? Timing, my fellow warriors. With all the hub-bub in D.C., it makes sense to have one high profile, well known CCSS supporter suddenly ‘reveal’ a little known benefit to keeping CCSS.. boosting the economy of military bases..which indirectly boosts America’s economy. Alas, my warriors against CCSS, what have we discovered time and time again in this war? Economics is one of the major goals for the CCSS Machine, not an academic education!

The Military Base Economy Author:

This report is written by Matthew Leatherman, of NC. He’s a non resident fellow of the Stimson Center (more about them in a bit) as well as “Matthew also is active on national defense issues at the state level in North Carolina. He has been a special correspondent for the Raleigh News and Observer’s opinion page for four years. Matthew also is an independent adviser to the US Global Leadership Coalition’s North Carolina project, the University of North Carolina’s Citizen Soldier Support Program, and the Chamber of Commerce in Fayetteville, Fort Bragg’s host community.” To see his entire ‘expert’ biography,
http://www.stimson.org/experts/matthew-leatherman/

Every one of this groups is either tied to the CCSS Machine, helped form it, or, makes it their business to ‘sell it’ to the USA as a ‘good thing’. So, not only do you have one of the chiefs of the CCSS Machine revealing new information, you have a well connected CCSS supporter writing the information up. Excuse me, haven’t we had enough subjectivity about CCSS? Objectivity is something the CCSS Machine can’t handle, folks! The CCSS Machine’s tactic is eerily like Jack Nicholson’s character stated in “A Few Good Men” :

“You Can’t Handle the Truth!”

Warriors, take heart. We, as opposed to the CCSS Machine have been quite successful at not only handling the truth, but exposing it on a daily basis!! As long as the CCSS Machine continues to dis-serve our nation with their lies spun as truth, we WILL handle it. Why? Because we possess some things the CCSS Machine left in the dust years ago….
  Honesty, Integrity, and Justice

The New Report:

Titled, “The Army Goes to School: The Connection Between K-12 Education Standards and the Military Base Economy”, June 2015. Stimson (the group Leatherman wrote this for) is offering a free download of the report. Get yours, http://www.stimson.org/images/uploads/research-pdfs/ArmyGoesToSchool.pdf

Here’s who helped fund this report, “A grant from the New Venture Fund made this project possible. Stimson was fortunate to partner with the Collaborative for Student Success, a “non-profit organization consisting of a diverse group of regional and national education foundations committed to improving public education.”

Great, more subjectivity for the CCSS Machine. What do I mean? Here’s a brief look at Stimson, New Venture, and the Collaborative for Student Success.

Stimson: Founded in 1989, the Stimson Center is a nonprofit, nonpartisan institution devoted to enhancing international peace and security through a unique combination of rigorous analysis and outreach. The Centerʼs approach is pragmatic — geared toward providing policy alternatives, solving problems, and overcoming obstacles to a more peaceful and secure world.” Funding for Stimson? A mix of public and private organizations which include pro CCSS supporters the Carnegie Foundation and the United Nations. You’ll need to see what other groups are funding to believe it. See: http://www.stimson.org/images/uploads/Stimson_Funding_Report_2014.pdf

New Venture Fund: “The New Venture Fund (NVF) works to achieve a healthier, more equitable world. Our work spans a range of issue areas to realize social and environmental change.”  Here’s more, “The New Venture Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity, supports innovative and effective public interest projects. NVF was established in 2006 in response to demand from leading philanthropists for an efficient, cost-effective, and time-saving platform to launch and operate charitable projects.”
Funding for NVF? A major long term funding organization is the Gates Foundation. When I searched the grant data based provided on the GF website, I got 62 different grants tied to the NVF. That’s just one pro CCSS backer (and not to mention one of the biggest backers). See: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/How-We-Work/Quick-Links/Grants-Database#q/k=New%20Venture%20Fund

Collaboration for Student Success: “The Collaborative for Student Success is a grant-making initiative created with the pooled resources of a diverse group of regional and national education foundations deeply committed to improving public education. The members of the Collaborative share the belief that the successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards is an important next step in ensuring that all students are prepared to succeed at college level work. The mission of the Collaborative is to support the state-led efforts of State Education Agencies and local education organizations responsible for educating and informing all stakeholders — parents, students, teachers and community leaders — about the new state standards and assessments.”

Members? Among them are the NEA, the AFT, Gates Foundation, and the Carnegie Foundation. To see all the members, http://forstudentsuccess.org/about/
It’s rather obvious how the Collaborative is funded, however, to be thorough, http://forstudentsuccess.org/resources/faqs/ (*Note: scroll down to the appropriate question/answer)

Other CCSS Nuggets From Leatherman’s Report:

1) “Communities that host Army bases should take heed of this powerful message from General Odierno, which otherwise might sound like an ordinary endorsement of good schools. Many of these communities have a deep economic dependency on military wages. Losing soldiers and their wages for any reason, including because of shortcomings in their schools, would push the economies of host communities sharply downward. In this sense, the Army’s impact is similar to other major employers, and the potential for transfers within its future workforce of 420,000– 450,000 men and women could reshape the economic landscape of cities and regions.”

2) “The Army has completed the evaluation of local schools General Odierno promised in the family forum 18 months ago. This review — known as the WestEd study — will recognize those communities that meet the Army’s baseline education standards and identify those that do not.”
Related: The “Military Times” article about the WestEd Study shared the results of military kids on CCSS were ‘average’. See: http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/benefits/2015/07/01/study-shows-mixed-results-quality-of-schools-military-children-attend/29566721/
WestEd is ‘all in’ with the CCSS Machine. Here’s their website, http://www.wested.org/ (*Note: see how quickly you can identify all the ways in which WestEd loves CCSS)

3) “The only comparable nationwide academic standards today are the Common Core State Standards, which cover mathematics and language arts. The Pentagon decided in June 2012 to use Common Core standards in the schools it runs on military bases.  Meanwhile, a majority of states overall have adopted Common Core, but states that host the Army’s bases have varied in the decision whether to adopt these standards. Missouri and North Carolina, for example, have adopted Common Core, though both state governments have taken action to reconsider this decision. Texas, which hosts nearly 80,000 soldiers at bases like Fort Hood and Fort Bliss, has never adopted common standards, neither has Virginia nor Alaska which boast major installations such as Fort Lee and Fort Wainright, respectively. Oklahoma, home of Fort Sill, initially signed up for Common Core, but then reversed the adoption of the standards.” (*Note: did you spot all the pro CCSS truths, which are the anti CCSS warriors examples of their web of lies?)

Some Anti CCSS Military Truth They Can’t Handle:

Lastly, the CCSS Machine can’t handle that many of us warriors against CCSS, have uncovered, researched, and reported the real truths about the military and Common Core. I offer you, my previously published article:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/16/tech-thursday-common-core-military-special/ (includes more on the Collaborative for Student Success and U.S. State Dept. documents)
An excerpt from my 3/20/15 article about elected officials and CCSS which is suitable for today’s context,

“The entire debacle is un- Constitutional! It’s a domestic enemy! Every time you continue to allow Career Tech Education, rebrands of CCSS, Career Pathways, Workforce Education, high stakes assessments, textbooks that are rewritten to teach America is a hostile nation, YOU are the domestic enemy! Instead of keeping your oath to do all you can to protect, you’ve replaced it with a pledge to the CCSS Machine (all those fund, create, and continue to purport CCSS) The fact that federal funding has been accepted to help further align has happened of each of your ‘watches’ in office! How is that protecting the people OR defending the Constitution?!

Here’s, my version, of the pledge you’ve sacrificed us all for:

“I pledge my allegiance to the Core and to the deterioration for which it exists.
I have pledged my support to the degrading of my people which CCSS ensues.
That being one way to learn, for all, indivisible and rigor for all.”

FOM: Social Media CCSS Truth…. or Not

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

Today’s Fib-o-Meter will take a peek at how CCSS is being portrayed on social media. The way this will work is you’ll see the screen shot first, then the Fib-o-Meter’s revelation. Be sure to access the links used to back up each revelation.

Here’s a plug from the feds in D.C. about HR5 (Student Success Act).

Total Fallacy!
Anita Hoge’s article gives you the “Total Truth”, however. See: http://www.newswithviews.com/Hoge/anita113.htm

Here’s another tweet from 4/23/15:

Achieve wants you to believe educators love CCSS:

acheivelie

Total Fallacy!

Achieve, Inc. got this from a newspaper editorial out of TN. As of this writing, no comments have been made to the newspaper. If you have a few minutes, why not help the paper’s editor know the truth. See: http://www.decaturdaily.com/opinion/editorials/educators-stand-by-common-core/article_cabaef6b-89f5-5c26-b23e-f7b9b02df07a.html

I couldn’t of said it any better:

Total Truth!

FreedomWorks has a brand new short video explaining how the feds have taken over education. This is useful if you have someone who is new to the battle.

A well known anti CCSS spokesman’s “Total Truth”:

Here’s a teaser for the article featuring Sec. Duncan:

chuckleheadThe “Total Fallacy” doesn’t show up in the tweet, you have to get to the article. What’s the fib? That all the protesting is hysteria. See: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/01/18/ohio-gov-kasich-common-core-resistance-is-hysteria/

Here, Duncan plays the ‘racist’ card for CCSS and its assessments:

“Total Fallacy”!
Here’s the link to the article where it is revealed how this isn’t the first time Sec. Duncan has cried ‘racism’ when it comes to CCSS: http://libertyunyielding.com/2015/04/23/education-secretary-opting-out-of-common-core-is-a-white-thing-and-therefore-racist/

Have you spotted a CCSS “Total Truth” or “Total Fallacy” in your area? I’d love to know what it is. Please consider posting it in the comments. Remember, it could be about any aspect of the CCSS Machine. From nursery school to career, P3s (public, private partnerships), school boards, and chambers of commerce. Legislation would be a great Fib-o-Meter topic, too! Let me know what’s out there. Together, we can expose it and hold those in charge accountable.

FOM Friday: CCSS “Can’t Be Wrong”?!

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

What Could Possibly Be ‘Right’ About Common Core? In today’s post we’ll measure the latest ‘new evidence’ about Common Core in the classroom. Let’s get the Fib-o_Meter fired up!

First, the organization:

ASCD (formerly, The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) The website: http://www.ascd.org

“Total Truth”, each state has an ASCD Affiliate. So do several countries across the globe. The purpose? “Common values and goals”. (see: http://www.ascd.org/about-ascd/Affiliates/Directory/Affiliate-Directory.aspx )

"Total Truth", Gates funded ASCD Common Core resources since 2011.
“Total Truth”, Gates funded ASCD Common Core resources since 2011.

Next, The Book:

The new book that’s got the Fib-o-Meter all fired up? “17,000 Classroom Visits Can’t Be Wrong” by authors John V. Antonetti and James R. Garver, the designers of the Look 2 Learning model of classroom walkthroughs. ASCD is so proud of this book that you can not only buy a copy off the website, you can get a sample download of the book.

Fib-o-Meter’s guess is this is so you, too, as an educator can get started right away ‘doing IT correctly’.  Let’s see what we can find. Now, while I can’t give the download sample, I can point you to where to get it for your own research. Fib-o-Meter will help guide you on some of the biggest CC points. To get the sample: http://www.ascd.org/Publications/Books/Overview/Seventeen-Thousand-Classroom-Visits-Cant-Be-Wrong.aspx (be sure to click on the ‘excerpts, pdf’ near the bottom of the page)

Fib-o-Meter Spied The Following From the Sample:

From Page 4: there was talk about ‘benchmarks’ being used as school effectiveness tool. “Total Fallacy” when you consider the entire ‘benchmarked CCSS’ myth has been busted open long ago. (see: http://pioneerinstitute.org/blog/blog-education/blog-common-core/common-core-was-neither-internationally-benchmarked-nor-state-led/ )

Page 4 also shares about “PLCs” (professional learning communities) guiding thoughts..Hhmm..when you consider the multitude of PLC workshops expressly for CCSS, I guess the guiding thoughts would be all about Common Core. (for example, see: http://www.schoolimprovement.com/how-to-make-friends-and-influence-people-with-the-common-core-standards/ ) If this isn’t enough for you, check out the agenda behind those 21st Century Community Learning Centers, which are also helping guide thought, blur lines, and so much more. (see: http://www.p21.org/). “Total Fallacy” for this entire topic! Why, a true PLC shouldn’t shove agendas, it should encourage individuality of the teacher, the respect for him/her to know what would be applicable, and the trust to pull it all off. You can’t have any of that when you are constricted by the CCSS. (see: https://whatiscommoncore.wordpress.com/tag/teachers-against-common-core/ )

Page 5 introduces the “TIMSS” (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study). Well, let’s see what the Fib-o-Meter can share. “Total Truth” that this study exists. However, bear in mind it’s part of the U.S. Dept. of Education. SO, objectivity is going to be somewhat skewed in regards to CCSS, don’t you think? (see: https://nces.ed.gov/TIMSS/)
“Total Fallacy” that we should even try to use the TIMSS in regards to CCSS, as revealed in this article by a guest for Pioneer Institute. (see: http://pioneerinstitute.org/news/why-common-cores-math-standards-dont-measure-up-by-guest-blogger-zeev-wurman/)

Other Things to Consider:

Fib-o-Meter found these things worth considering:

  • “Colleagues on Call”, considering they influence others, you want to note that the author featured in the Carnegie event is a co-founder of ‘C on C’. Think influence in education isn’t a big deal these days? You may want to consider where ‘C on C’ goes. According to their website, “ongoing partnerships with many schools, districts, service centers, professional organizations, and departments of education.” It is because of groups like this why we need to look further at who’s pushing the districts, the superintendents, and others straight into the CCSS Machine at break-neck speed (see the ‘related’ below). ‘C on C’s’ website: http://www.colleaguesoncall.com/our-work.php

Related to All This, Because They Handle School Leaders:

  • From a post I wrote as a guest on LadyLiberty1885’s blog last year is this excerpt. It shows that influences among leaders in schools, etc.
  • “One such  “group known as NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals). According their website, they have much help in aligning not only honor societies to Common Core, but they have a guide for school counselors. Look down at bit on the page and you’ll see the Hunt Institute, the Council of Chief State School Officers, IDEA Partnership, Council of Great City Schools and others. (Link)” (See the entire post: http://ladyliberty1885.com/2014/06/29/guest-post-how-common-core-standards-are-taking-over-our-national-honor-societies/)
  • To find out some “Total Truths and Fallacies” (I’m sure you can correctly match the truths/fallacies to the boldly highlighted words) from the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), see this excerpt below (the entire document: AASA_CCSS_Report):
  • “The CCSS-aligned tests were designed to assess student achievement, and any effort to rush implementation of them that includes using the test data to inform teacher evaluation is ill-conceived. Frustration over an arbitrary deadline to implement tests in a manner for which they were not intended threatens the good that stands to be gained from successful implementation of the CCSS and related assessments. Whatever happens in the news and the political debate, districts are already hard at work implementing these new standards and their related assessments. In order to see how the implementation of the new standards is faring, AASA conducted a survey of superintendents and administrators throughout the country in April, 2014. With 525 responses representing 48 states, the survey provides a glimpse into the planning and implementation of the new standards and assessments as well as the support superintendents are receiving from the state and community. Overall, most superintendents have already begun to implement the new standards, which they see as much more rigorous than previous standards. The new standards will increase students’ critical thinking skills and ensure that they are more prepared for college and the modern workforce than previous standards did. School and district staff are viewed as prepared and engaged in implementation of the new standards.”

Even Further Related to AASA:

AXA (partners with both the PTA, NEA, and the AASA). Interestingly enough, they also give out lots and lots of scholarships in America. (Find out what AXA is: https://us.axa.com/home.html) *Note: be sure to look at the Foundation arm, as well as the corporate one.

Aramark, helps uphold not only school leaders, but school meals. Here’s a document they have helped in supporting a  “Superintendent Forum” full of CC alignment. See: WP-NYSF_2013

Hobson’s, partners of AASA, as well. See their P-20 (Preschool to age 20) work: http://www.hobsons.com/about-hobsons/p-20-summit/
*Note: Be sure to look at all the curricula resources under the “Learn What We Do” tab.

NASSP Partners and Related Information:

Not to be left out of all the CCSS support from afar, the NASSP, has ‘friends’ too.

Prudential: Hardly the only insurance company to back the CCSS Machine, this one is special in the amount it has given to not only education, but Workforce alignment. (see: http://preventcommoncore.com/?p=1154)

Wallace Foundation: See all 357 Common Core resource papers they have. http://www.wallacefoundation.org/Search/Pages/results.aspx?k=common%20core%20standards

Minnesota Life: Not only partners with NASSP, but insures “Coverage is also available to NASSP employees and advisors with: National Association of Student Council, National Honor Society, National Elementary Honor Society, and National Junior Honor Society.” (refer to these groups above to see again how CC aligned they are)

Closing:

Well, I’m not sure about you, but I think the Fib-o-Meter’s dealt enough “Total Truth” for one day AND exposed enough “Total Fallacy” as well. The original statement the ASCD folks claimed was “17,000 Classrooms Can’t Be Wrong”. I know as long as Common Core is involved, those 17,000 classrooms will be grossly under-served. Right along with the millions of other classrooms left OUT of the book!

As far as those ‘Classroom Walk Throughs’ and how they relate to Common Core?..that’s another article unto itself.

Fib-o-Meter Friday: IB (International Baccalaureate) Schools, Common Core

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

IB Schools are more prevalent today than ever before. They are supposedly the ‘greatest thing since sliced bread’ in the education world. So, with such a global agenda, is there room for Common Core?! Let’s find out!

Today’s “Fib-o-Meter” is charged up and ready to weigh the ‘facts, fallacies, and buzzwords’! Our focus is the 2012 IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization) Presentation given at the “Conference of the Americas”.

First statement from the presentation:

“The IB supports the creation and adoption of the Common Core State Standards.” Now, we know the context of this, at least from the IB veiwpoint, is ‘Total Truth”, however, we aren’t the IB. Supporting the creation..would that be the ‘state led, state created’ version of the truth or would it be the public-private, non legislative created version? It could also mean the creation version that didn’t include a single classroom experienced writer! As far as the adoption process?! It was hardly voluntarily completed. Kind of lets us know right off the bat the moral compass of the IB, doesn’t it? I think we’ll have to stick with “Fallacy” overall on this statement.

Next statement to be measured:

“The main aims of the common core initiative are to raise academic standards and improve college completion rates in the US.” Really? That’s not what we’ve been told, IB! Shameful..telling such “Total Fallacies” as such. Straight from the official Common Core Standards website, “to prepare all students for success in our global economy and society”

Then, there’s this set of statements :

“Common standards create a foundation for districts and states to work collaboratively.”

“Clear and coherent standards will help students (and parents and teachers) understand what is expected of them.”

“All students must be prepared to compete with not only their American peers, but also with students from around the world.”

“Common standards can help create more equal access to an excellent education.”

Of all of the statements in the set, only one is “Total Truth”. Even that’s a stretch. Which one? Why the state working together collaboratively. By the time the entire CCSS alignment, Career Pathways, College and Career Readiness,  and Workforce alignment (not to mention the data mining), we’ll have no choice in the matter…we’ll HAVE to work together! The rest of the set..all “Total Fallacies”. I’m sure there are thousands of citizens who can provide evidence to prove it. Lord knows, You Tube is full of  evidence to disprove this load of less-than-fine-upstanding-truth.

How About This Whopper?

No, I don’t mean the sandwich, I mean the whopper of a fallacy this next statement is. (CCSS) Provides more precise definitions of academic success, a logical pathway toward goals while considering international benchmarksƒ.” Is this group serious? “International benchmarks”? There are NONE!! They obviously weren’t invited to the debut of Dr. Stotsky’s article as it appeared on the Pioneer Institute’s website about the proof no international benchmarks were around. (See: http://pioneerinstitute.org/news/wanted-internationally-benchmarked-standards-in-english-mathematics-and-science/)

Sorry, IBO, you get “Total Fallacy” for this one!

Closing:

Before we part today, remember this, as I’ve written before, IB Schools are part of the UN. So, it stands to reason they would support Common Core. UN is global, that’s its nature. However, we’re Americans. We should have American schools. That’s our nature.

Finally, if you’ve not seen this yet, it is worth watching. Out of the state of Ohio from the efforts to stop Common Core, a ‘Pink Floyd’ classic has been updated to fit CCSS. When you sing along, insert your state’s name!
