FTF: Loose Ends are Still Strings

ballofyarn

For today’s ‘From the Files’ article, we, those opposed to the overreach in education, will see if we can pick up any loose ends of strings the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Machine has left around the nation.

Could we make a ball of yarn with it? No doubt. Those backing the illegally based (now codified into law) education reform point to ‘no strings attached’, we need to not accept this fallacy quite so quickly. Why? Loose strings are not as loose as they appear. Somewhere connected to that loose string is a ball of yarn. What else is in the ball of yarn? Hidden programs, resources, funding, and MORE.

Loose End #1:

ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)  will return control to the States. This has been publicly proclaimed by Congress members, the mainstream media, and anyone willing to follow this loose end. However, many of those researching the ESSA, including myself have pointed out what pro CCSS/ESSA organization has the ball of yarn connected to this loose end. The U.S. Dept. of Education!! Pages of the ESSA Final Conference Report  (as well as the Final Law version) reveal the ball of yarn as well as the loose ends. “Pages 7, 85, 450, and 905 to see how the States will be under the Sec. of Ed’s thumb, for not only approval of State Ed plans, but getting the bucks to do so.”

To access my “ESSA National Control” Open Office Document (3 pages of where more loose ends of string will tie back to the big ball of yarn): ESSAnationalcontrol

If you would like the entire article this document was first featured in:

Related: States have begun, in earnest, to realign education (which also ties into the loose end of workforce) to fit ESSA. If you want to see what pro CCSS/ESSA groups have lined up to help extend the loose strings to make the ball of yarn bigger:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/03/22/essa-aligners/
As an example of how States are picking up those loose ends and extending them across our Nation, here is the press release the NC Dept. of Public Instruction about implementing ESSA. Below is the screen shot. In the caption is the link address.

Loose End #2:

An invitation to participate. If you haven’t expanded the screen shot above, you may not of seen the invitation so graciously extended to the ‘stakeholders’. This educratic buzzword is a favorite of those in the CCSS/ESSA mix who want to extend what appears to be a ‘string of cooperation’. However, the string is another loose end of the big ball of yarn. In this instance, the ESSA language itself. Because the Law is now the rule of the land and all the parameters/mandates embedded MUST be carried out, the cooperation from stakeholders is pretty much a posturing move. It is a move designed to have us think we can have a say in how education is run, but we really won’t. I am planning on attending one of these meetings to see if and how Delphi Method is used. If you are not sure what the Delphi Method is, here is an excerpt of how is was originally supposed to used, “The Delphi technique is a widely used and accepted method for gathering data from respondents within their domain of expertise. The technique is designed as a group communication process which aims to achieve a convergence of opinion on a specific real-world issue. The Delphi process has been used in various fields of study such as program planning, needs assessment, policy determination, and resource utilization to develop a full range of alternatives, explore or expose underlying assumptions, as well as correlate judgments on a topic spanning a wide range of disciplines.”

The CCSS/ESSA Machine likes to use this Method on parents..a lot. Just ask some anti CCSS Warriors who have publicly shared the meetings they attended under the guise of ‘we want your input to help us plan’. Oh, and here is a fun fact about  the Delphi Method, Rand Corporation is given credit for creating it. Rand Corp. is a big CCSS Machine member organization. See the rest of the Delphi Method Study:
http://pareonline.net/pdf/v12n10.pdf

Loose End #3:

Data and Refusing the Assessments. This is a rather big loose end for the CCSS/ESSA Machine to be dangling about, but shamelessly, it is. While I do support those parents who are choosing to protect their children by refusing the high stakes formative, summative, data tracking/mining assessments, we need to know that the ESSA will have MORE assessments, not LESS. We need to realize that almost $850 million dollars in earmarked in the ESSA for digital/technology based updates. This is where the assessments will be hidden! Huge ball of nasty yarn! What do I mean? One of my dear anti CCSS Warrior friends from Alaska granted me permission to share their loose strings and where the ball of yarn ended up. See: http://refusetheamp.blogspot.com/2016/04/the-rise-of-new-answers-while-amp-was.html
We Warriors must opt out of not only the assessments, but ANYTHING digital. This loose string portion of ESSA is a ball of yarn which will be used to knit a web of educational crimes against humanity.

The U.S. Dept. of Labor’s loose ends/balls of yarn are woven into the ESSA and the HEA (Higher Education Act). These are probably some of the most deceptive loose ends in the nation! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/12/05/weekend-news-essas-untold-ties-to-hea/

Closing:

Yarn can be used to make many beautiful items. ESSA is not one of them. The CCSS Machine is using all its yarn to bind us up. Let’s be savvy. Let’s fight this. Let’s knot up the yarns as much as we can.

RMT: CC Education and Marriage?

Recently, I was looking through my social media feeds and I stumbled on a known CCSS supporter’s blog which shared that in the modern aligned educational world, our marriages can be fixed by our local schools! Have you heard anything so bizarre?! I must say, of all the CCSS aligned things out there, the last thing we need aligned is marriage!! So, the riddle before us is:

CCSS Education Can Save My Marriage?!

Divorce

The Blog Entry:

Written by the well known pro-CCSS man named Michael Petrelli, his article dated 3/11/15 is titled “What Schools Can Do to Address the Marriage Crisis, Part 2”, see:  http://edexcellence.net/articles/what-schools-can-do-to-address-americas-marriage-crisis-part-ii  It seems the folks at Mr. Petrelli’s employer are focusing on education and the family. Geez…seriously?

In reality the article is a shameless plug wrapped in something resembling concern. What do I mean? His plug for post-secondary Career Tech Education! To add insult to injury he cites Harvard as credible on this subject. Now, if I’d not conducted so much research into how embedded with Common Core, Career Tech Education is OR the fact that Harvard’s had a huge hand in helping this effort along, I might be impressed. However, I’m not..neither should you. How many times and ways must we hear yet another avenue that seeks to take over our lives as Common Core is so doing?!

Enter Other CCSS Supporters:

Not content to leave Harvard alone in the CCSS related ‘shout out’,  the author adds to the mix Brookings Institute..another group not bashful of their love for the Core.

The Original Reports:

In the blog, a pair of original articles is referenced to (even linked in the blog for you). So, being the researcher I am, I clinked on the embedded link and was taken to yet another website for a group which was formed by P3s (this is getting to be a broken record in CCSS land, don’t you think?!). P3s, or public-private partnerships; we’ve seen, read, and experienced the harm P3s has caused in modern education. We also, see it growing, especially with efforts like the Petrelli blog article mentioned above.

The organization responsible for the reports Petrilli is bringing up is called MDRC..and they’re in the social justice business. Yep, like we’ve not seen what too much social justice in CCSS is doing to our educational system as well. (If you’ve not been reading the news lately, some of the other anti CCSS warriors are sharing how social justice is turning up in physics classes or similar classes where it’s inappropriate. If you must teach social justice, do it in anthropology, civics, or more well suited classes). So, who is behind MDRC? What else does MDRC accomplish? Let’s find out…

From MDRC’s “History” page, I give you the following excerpt, “Created in 1974 by the Ford Foundation and a group of federal agencies, MDRC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan education and social policy research organization dedicated to learning what works to improve programs and policies that affect the poor. MDRC is best known for mounting large-scale demonstrations and evaluations of real-world policies and programs targeted to low-income people. We helped pioneer the use of random assignment — the same highly reliable methodology used to test new medicines — in our evaluations. From welfare policy to high school reform, MDRC’s work has helped to shape legislation, program design, and operational practices across the country. Working in fields where emotion and ideology often dominate public debates, MDRC is a source of objective, unbiased evidence about cost-effective solutions that can be replicated and expanded to scale.”

The CCSS Significance of the Ford Foundation’s Involvement:
Excuse me, but did you catch the “Ford Foundation” in the above excerpt?? Yes, the very same Ford Foundation which has contributed much in support for all things CCSS. See the following links:
http://www.fordfoundation.org/grants/grantdetails?grantid=112954 (where Ford gave money to “Common Core, Inc.”)

This article from the Washington Post, where it not only gives us that Ford Foundation, has given millions – but other big spenders are named, too. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2013/12/10/millions-in-private-money-poured-into-common-core-promotion/

If you’d like a visual version of a basic overview of Ford’s involvement, the classic 2013 OptOut video is excellent. For the specific mention of Ford Foundation, advance the video to about 5:30 minutes.
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/18442-flow-chart-exposes-common-cores-myriad-corporate-connections You might also find the depth of the Ford Foundation’s involvement in CCSS Career Pathways interesting as well. See my published article from “Prevent Common Core”, http://preventcommoncore.com/?p=1187

Back to MDRC:

Knowing the heavy influence Ford has in MDRC, finding the CCSS support was very easy, here’s the link to the general search I did. Note how many of these relate to workforce, CTE (Career Tech Ed). See: http://www.mdrc.org/search/gss/common%20core%20standards

In MDRC’s original article about marriage/education, http://www.mdrc.org/publication/effects-marriage-and-divorce-families-and-children, it won’t take long before you can begin to see why ‘marriage education’ is a bit concerning.

Put the puzzles pieces together, my warrior friends:

1) supportive groups for CCSS

2) redesigning education and the schools education takes place in to ’21st Century Community Learning Centers’

3) add social justice, conduct classes that ‘extend’ our education in the community

Results? A more CCSS aligned community..including your family and your marriage. Think I’m dreaming this up? See the screen shot below:

Think this is alignment? Wait until you read the fine print in their publications.
Think this is alignment? Wait until you read the fine print in their publications.

The publications I’m referring to in the above screen shot are available for you to access on the KnowledgeWorks website. You must read them! 2020 Forecast: Creating the Future of Learning, published in 2008 and the KnowledgeWorks Forecast 3.0: Recombinant Education: Regenerating the Learning Ecosystem, published 2012.

By the time you finish these, you should have a much great understanding of why it’s important to look beyond the triteness of the Petrelli article. Why? Because while all the fast talk, slick words, and look at ‘all the good this will do’ is being shared, it is what is going on behind the scenes we must learn about.

If an aligned marriage courtesy of CCSS, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, tax reform or even prison reform (yes, Petrelli was politically correct) is what is in store for our students, then we have many miles to go before we can stop the CCSS Machine.

Monday Musing: An Interview You MUST Hear!

Share this post, share this interview!
Share this post, share this interview!

Usually my Monday’s posts are about my feelings on Common Core situations. Today, however, I’m featuring an interview one of my fellow warriors shared with me. As a fighter against Common Core, I urge you to listen!!! Many of the comments you’ll hear from her are specific issues about CCSS that many of us warriors may already know (or in my case, researched, written about). However, how Mrs. Hoge details it IS a ‘must hear’!!

The Interview:

“Caravantomidnight” (website: http://caravantomidnight.com/) show from 1/21/15 featured Anita Hoge. A well known education researcher, among other areas of knowledge. If you don’t know much about Anita, I found a brief bio of her at “Freedom Outpost”. (see: http://freedomoutpost.com/author/anitahoge/)

When to listen:

Begin at the 28:10 minute mark. Here the host will tell you about Anita’s topic. Then Mrs. Hoge explains how and why she began fighting against educational reform that was the precursor to where we are in the fight against CCSS today. From there she’ll mention Charlotte Iserbyt; Pennsylvania’s role in being a guinea pig for the National Assessment, etc. At the 45:00 mark, data collection and The U.S. Dept. of Ed.; 57:00 The government’s creation for compliant citizens; 1 hour mark gives you how Mrs. Hoge defines CCSS; 1:08 ‘what’s your worth (human capital wise) to the nation?’ and the massive agenda that EVERY child is educational deprived, so they MUST be corrected. When you are at the 1:17 hour mark, listen to the way state grants will use ALL students (regardless of where they attend school) are entered into the P-20 data stream (Preschool to age 20); Listening at 1:26, be sure to note the ‘wrap around mental health’ interweaving into schools; Workforce alignment is at 1:33(to include all citizens from preK to retirement); At the 1:36 mark, a short break where you’ll hear Pink Floyd’s “Brick in the Wall”.  After this the Gov. of PA discussion resumed; next is the critical thinking via CCSS about 1:47; The ESEA reauthorizing and Lamar Alexander’s Title One debacle at 1:49 (I just wrote about this last week); School choice and your taxes used for CCSS will kill all private education, 1:51; 1:54 homeschooling impact via failing standardized tests, thus being denied work or college; 1:57 Mrs. Hoge brings back up the Title One funding will kill public schools in your neighborhood..so where does the local school board go? AWAY! What will replace, charter schools with NO elected school boards. Therefore no representation for local education! Near the end, 2:02 the Senator’s bill with NO number is on the fast track for vote in March 2015. “Charter schools are public schools”, 2:05; 2:07 a bypass of states rights!! “Free day care” gives us data collection, 2:08; toddler and kindergarten behavior assessing via teachers/caregivers (who are not licensed mental health professionals), 2:10; Mental conditioning for toddlers, 2:12; redefining what special needs is in education will continue mental conditioning, 2:15. At the 2:20 mark, how the U.S. Census will be redesigned to help data collection along. Weak links include data collection, HIPPA not covering educational records, follow this topic. Listen to 2:30, how in some states schools are being taken over and converted into charter schools because assessments aligned to Common Core were failed!

What you need to take away from this:

Collectivism training (If there was an old lady would you push her in the road OR throw rocks at her?) No individualism will be tolerated.

Career Pathway (don’t pass the test at 3rd grade, don’t move on; don’t graduate…)

B. F. Skinner’s Plan (radical behavior plan)

Functional Literacy/what are you teaching my child?/how can you assess honesty?

Mental health agenda IS the main point of education reform! FERPA monster moves.

Common Core: transfer of power from local to federal for data’s sake so you can be measured by your attitude.

Activist steps:
Listen to the list Mrs. Hoge gives, 2:33

1) Charlotte Iserbyt’s website: http://abcsofdumbdown.blogspot.com/

2) Change HIPPA to include educational records.

3) Parents write letters for informed consent to Superintendents/Principals .

4) Use the Data System resource mentioned earlier to know what items to ‘opt out’ of.

5) Every state has RTI (Response To Intervention). STOP IT!

6) PPA (Protection of Pupils Amendment) will stop the psychological abuse!

7) Watch your property taxes and what happens with the funding, is it staying in my community or is it going to Regional Workforce, State level organizations.

8) Contact your federal legislators and tell them to seek anti Common Core warriors like Mrs. Hoge, Mrs. Iserbyt to appear BEFORE the Sen. Alexander bill can be voted on!!
