Tightening the Collar

Warriors Against the Core, have you seen one of the latest documents concerning those State led ESSA implementation feedback meetings? ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) does in fact increase the choke-hold of federal overreach in education. I know you know this, BUT have you wondered if your input really matters? I know I sure did when I attended one in the state I live in.

So, what’s the document? Courtesy of the CCSS Machine half owner, CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), it’s called the

ccssoconvo
Now, if you have seen this guide, you know the implications are immense. Anytime you have a sold out group, a subjective viewpoint, the information you give to ‘guide’ others will definitely be a Delphi move. However, if you’ve not see this document,  you should. Why? Look at the number of meetings still be held by your State levels of education leadership for our input into HOW ESSA should be for our local control. When you create a conversation guide, you might as well be handing the States a cheat sheet for an exam.

What the Guide is Delphi-ing Your State Into:

1) The Guide is 27 pages long and has SO much CCSS Machine support it might as well be in the undergarment support business.

convodrivers

2) Page 4 leads us to believe that if we (the States) do ‘x,y, and z’; then all kinds of good will come from the local control. Now, pardon me, but leading up to this ‘vote of confidence’, is a shout out from the NEA (National Education Assoc.) which has been horribly visible about their support of ESSA, its passage and is now driving their agenda to help influence political votes. Now, the way in which this page is written it begs the question: If my State doesn’t do ‘x, y, and z’; will this be thrown back in our faces?! Warriors, I do believe so.

essaconvo
If you’d like to see how the CCSSO is heralding the State conversations:

3) Page 10 begins the ‘how to’ parts of engaging stakeholders. Legislators top the list, educators finish the list. Parents are next to last. Native Americans are second after the law makers.

4) Page 11 will so you how to use the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s arm, Ed Reform Support Network tools:

5) Page 12 is of special note. This is where the parents are targeted, carries to the pages which follow.

6) Page 24 gives you a map where you can classify your most desired relationship you wish to influence (aka: manipulate from their perspective).

7) On one of the last pages of the Conversation Guide, you’ll see what resembles a detailed ESSA impact guide. I highlighted a couple of facts not so visible.

The U.S. Education’s Education Reform Support Network Guide:

If you thought the CCSSO was the only one Delphi-ing our States, I found the Education Reform Support’s Guide. Like the CCSSO’s, this one’s full of all kinds of tools, techniques, and conversation starters. It is from late 2014. I swear, you’d think no one in America knew how to form syllables, must less talk intelligently.

This Guide is only 21 pages. It expounds on the Four Is mentioned in the CCSSO Guide. This one, however, also gives you, the influencer, a self assessment on how well you can help ratchet up the conversation.

Get this one and read up on just how far the U.S. Dept. of Ed expects us to be bent.

As you can see, Warriors, we are definitely being set up for a tremendous fall. Please be sure to stay tuned for how I want to help us strike back against the ‘false advertising’ with not only the videos I mentioned in the opening, but to the false/positive meetings we are experiencing. How dare, these people host meetings with the premise our voices count, only to have guides like the 2 I’ve featured, coaching them right into the

Home for Me!

Warriors Against the Core, recently I’ve seen the news about Dr. King’s remarks on home education. I’m not surprised. By now, he’s had plenty of time to read how much ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) will harm it. I know I have!wormy

As Far as Dr. King’s Thoughts on Home Education….

First off, the news was publicized during his recent “Opportunity for All” Tour. I shared with you before he even left D.C. how this would be all encompassing as far as educational choices. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/09/08/kings-bandwagon-its-a-comin/

I’m not surprised at his arrogance. Why not? Because between the federal laws either all about education or those RELATED to education to the major groups in favor of King’s rule, home education has been a target the ENTIRE time. So when a major group supposedly protecting home schoolers across America feigns neutrality. That’s  a sell out, too.

Among King’s best backers is the NEA (National Education Association). NEA HATES homeschoolers! They have for years. NEA also was/is a huge supporter for the ESSA. It’s not hard to figure out that King’s ‘sudden’ concern about ‘Are the kids at home alright?’ Is hardly a move he’s making alone. It is, however, a huge warning.

To see the 2015 article where NEA blasted home education:
http://www.wnd.com/2015/06/authors-nea-attack-on-homeschoolers-outrageous/

ccaffectshome
CCSS/CTE impacts ALL educational choices, don’t be fooled!

ESSA has EVERY student in its sights, it’s been proven repeatedly. Especially from my blog. The SOLE reason I even began to fight this War Against the Core was due to the (then) evidence that national standards with global attitudes wasn’t a rumor for home educators and their students. This was back in 2009. Since then, what I’ve found has filled more space in my house than my family really likes.

In fact one of my very first articles used the phrase “Reality Check” on purpose. It revealed what, at time, was considered ‘fear mongering’ evidence. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/common-core-after-high-school-reality-check/

From those very first articles until now, I have dedicated much time and research into ALL educational choices. However, home education represents our LAST true free education option. Evidence bears out that via WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), HEA (Higher Education Act), and ESSA, those options will be neutered. If your home education protection group says differently, they’ve not dug deep enough.
*Note: Where you find one of these 3 major federal education/workforce laws, you will find the others.

Leading the Charge?!

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, Have you made your public comments on the Proposed ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Regulations yet? We only have until August 1, 2016.

What’s Up:
Lately, I have been overwhelmed with family health care needs, research, working on a special anti CCSS/ESSA project, and mentoring Warriors across the nation. While I’ve not been as active in writing the past couple of weeks, I have NOT been slacking when it comes to what CCSS Machine members are ramping up their propaganda to support the ESSA. The most ‘in our face’ push, is the public comment period surrounding the Proposed ESSA Regulations for State Accountability.

Why This Matters:
If you missed the late May 2016 announcement about the Proposed Regulations, I am including my published article about it, https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/05/31/hear-ye-hear-ye/
In this article, I shared with you how, another pro CCSS group, ASCD was hot on the heels of this announcement. I have to stop and wonder sometimes, why these pro CCSS groups seemingly trip over each other to be the first one at spewing propaganda..

What Other Groups Are Commenting/Spewing:
We Warriors should know what the supportive side for ESSA is saying so we can best counter the fallacies with precise TRUTH! So far, the public comments surrounding the proposed regulations for state accountability are either just over 800 or 1700, depending on which website you access. The 821 number comes from The Federal Registry:
https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2016/05/31/2016-12451/elementary-and-secondary-education-act-of-1965-as-amended-by-the-every-student-succeed
The just over 1700 number is from the Regulations Docket,
https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=ED-2016-OESE-0032

I hope you catch the irony of the numbers gap in reporting.
essacomments

Did you notice the pro CCSS/ESSA group leading? It is the NEA! The National Education Association. If you want to see how the NEA is sending a mixed message, simply access their website. A screen shot is below. The mixed message explanation will be below it.
neaessa
To access the website: http://www.nea.org/essabegins
Mixed messages: While the NEA is accurate in stating the ESSA will continue NCLB (No Child Left Behind) style of assessments with its rewards and punishments for all, that is about all they are accurate on.
Those ‘opportunity gaps’ ESSA is supposed to close? Nope, a BIG fallacy! When you read the ESSA as in-depth as I have, you can point to the sections where gaps will NOT be closed.

Notice how the NEA is also lifting up ‘weighted evidence’ is needed in the forms of early childhood education, AP courses, etc. Again, if you have truly read the fine print of the ESSA, you will know these ‘education opportunities’ will be used AGAINST the students AND teachers when accountability enters the picture! How? The ESSA plainly points to everything learned and taught MUST be in preparation for post-secondary readiness! Funding for early education through high school will be weighed against how many students in your States are enrolled in post-secondary education! All this doesn’t even begin to address the levels of data collection, mining, and sharing that MUST occur (and is mandated) via the ESSA!

Let’s also remember, Warriors, the NEA was a banner heralding group publicly thanked by Senators Lamar Alexander AND Patti Murray after the ESSA was passed. Alexander’s fallacy is the ‘state led’; Murray’s is the ‘quality early education’ which is double speak for mandatory (and universal) birth to PreK education!

So, what are the leading comments the NEA is leaving when it comes to these Proposed Regulations? It appears to be a ‘canned’ message. You have the option to leave your name, as I saw some folks who did, or you can remain anonymous (as seen below). You can also choose from ‘educator’, ‘paraeducator’, and other titles when commenting.

“I am an educator and a member of the National Education Association and I urge the U.S. Department of Education to support the flexibility afforded to local stakeholders, including educators like me, by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Educators are experts at working with students and helping them reach their potential and we are ready to lead implementation efforts in our communities so students have access to the public schools they deserve. I am hopeful about the Department’s support and promotion of ESSA’s stakeholder engagement requirements in the proposed regulations, and recommend that these provisions be strengthened to ensure not just input, but two-way dialogue aimed at reaching consensus among stakeholders. Additionally, the final regulations should explicitly say that stakeholder engagement should include meetings that educators actually can attend, and that the engagement extends throughout the implementation process. However, I implore the Department not to short-circuit the stakeholder engagement process it professes to support by taking away from that process the very decisions that ESSA says states, districts, educators, parents, and other stakeholders should make – with the aim of that engagement being providing all students a better education. I urge the Department to promote transparency about school quality by dropping language in the regulations that would reduce the entirety of a school’s performance to a summative number or grade. The Department should instead promote a rich data dashboard on multiple academic and school quality indicators that will truly inform parents and others charged with helping students and improving schools. I urge the Department to promote equity by dropping the proposed regulations’ new restrictions on the use of school quality and student support indicators (“Opportunity Indicators”) in the accountability system. ESSA for the first time requires an Opportunity Indicator, not just test scores and graduation rates, to be an indicator for measuring and improving schools. The Department should promote, not undermine, school quality and student support indicators since they are the best way to ensure every student has access to a quality public school. I urge the Department not to take away my voice in the implementation process by using the regulatory process to restrict our community-led innovative solutions and opting to add requirements in the regulations that, according to ESSA, were left to states and districts in consultation with stakeholders. For example, the Department should drop the timelines for improvement, limits on interventions, and definitions of consistently underperforming that conflict with ESSA. I urge the Department to learn the lessons of NCLB’s failed interventions by dropping its list of recommendations for draconian interventions in schools, such as school closure, and allow stakeholders to determine appropriate creative, community-based interventions for struggling, under-resourced public schools as envisioned and outlined by ESSA so that all students have greater opportunities for a good education. I urge the Department to respect the decision by Congress to let states determine the weight and impact of any students who are opted out of testing by their parents instead of inserting proposed penalties into the regulations. The best way for the Department to promote test participation is to continue its campaign for better and fewer tests, which will create confidence in parents that tests have a role beyond labeling and punishing schools. In closing, I look forward to seeing my views and those of educators across the country reflected in the final regulations. I have every confidence in my fellow educators to help come up with strong, creative solutions that help all students excel and reach their full potential.”

Is the NEA alone in sending mixed messages about the ‘greatness’ of ESSA?! No! Remember, ASCD is already publicizing much. But what OTHER groups are there?

Enter, the LCEF (Leadership Conference Education Fund) Organization:
Back in March 2016, The Leadership Conference Education Fund (uses the web address of ‘civilrights.org’) sent a supportive ESSA letter to the Secretary of Education. It is signed by a big collection of OTHER supportive groups. Access the letter:
http://www.civilrights.org/press/2016/ESSA-Oversight-Letter.html?referrer=https://www.google.com/

If you are a bit confused about the LCEF and CivilRights.org, here is a direct quote from the fine print at the bottom of the website’s page, “CivilRights.org is a project of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights & The Leadership Conference Education Fund.”

If you question how tied to the CCSS Machine the LCEF is, read their college/career ready toolkit: Education-Equity-Toolkit-FOR-WEB
Then check out their take on what constitutes civil rights in education (*Note: almost every one of the ESSA mandates):
http://www.civilrights.org/education/equity/

The CivilRights.org folks will be hosting an ESSA Proposed Regulations Webinar in early July 2016. It is by invitation only, from what I can find.

Other groups giving webinars in support of ESSA, or more, pointedly, shaping your mind toward ESSA are iNACOL, Parent Central Hub, The School Superintendents Association, ASCD, White Board Advisors, EdWeek, and the U.S. Dept. of Education. You can find more when you type in a general search for ‘ESSA Regualtions Webinars’ on your own.

Contrast all this with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and THEIR take on how ‘great’ ESSA is: http://www.publiccharters.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/NAPCS-ESSA-Overview-Webinar-3.10.2016.pdf

Warriors, remember, charter schools, as per the ESSA language will see a huge increase in growth. This is very important! From my March 2016 article about the Warriors Guide to Private Education and ESSA, you will find all the details for charters (both public AND private) in “Sections 4301-4311 will address the Charters Schools” (entire article:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/warriors-guide-to-essa-and-private-education/

Here is a related article with evidence of how the charter schools are being used against the  true improvement of education,

What is a Warrior To Do?
When it comes to the Proposed Regulations for ESSA?! Protest them! Provide truth based evidence as to WHY the Regulations are toxic in nature. Show HOW the Regulations support the CCSS Machine. Be sure to keep reading my blog, in about 2 weeks, I will be able to tell you much more about how we CAN STRIKE a blow to the CCSS Machine’s prize law, ESSA!

Anti CCSS Warriors: Mother’s Day Weekend is upon us. While I wish each of you who are Moms a great time celebrating, there is still much for us to share in helping us fight this War Against the Core. Here are some of the latest resources from the past couple of weeks, in case you missed them.

From ‘It’s About the Child’/’Bears and Lord Network’:

This hardworking group just wrapped up a 3 day marathon concerning the overreach in education from the federal level. You can access the entire marathon on Roku and LiveStream. Quite a few of our fellow Warriors were featured. You can also find clips on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/About-The-Child-914500671951994/

From the ‘CCSS Machine’:

During April 2016, I was blocked, banned, and put in Facebook ‘jail’ more times than ever. Warriors, the censorship from the CCSS Machine is not exclusive to myself..it is happening more and more to others of us as well. As you know the founder of Facebook is a huge CCSS Machine member. But are you aware that Zuckerburg AND Gates (and many, many others) are behind the push to implore Congress with a petition for MORE CCSS, CCR, STEM, CTE, and NGSS (Common Core State Standards; College/Career Readiness; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; Next Generation Science Standards)

ICYMI on My Blog:

Just this past week, I gave a huge 1, 2 punch in the gut about the 2 biggest American Teachers Unions being used as fronts by the CCSS Machine. If you haven’t read them:

Since CCSS is global, the UK is also experiencing a dilemma we see almost daily in the news.  Catch up on the push back from parents there over too much testing. If you haven’t read about it: http://www.bbc.com/news/education-36188634

A Word of Warning for Home Educators:

This last article I am sharing from my blog is for every Warrior, but is especially vital to those who home educate. Why? Dual enrollment, early college classes, and AP courses are VERY popular among them. College and Career Readiness is a HUGE part of the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) language. So is Career Tech Education. Every one of the 50 States has BOTH! Here is an excerpt to share with every citizen, home educated or not,
“The most popular career-readiness indicators? a) dual enrollment (which includes homeschool students, AP course students and IB students); b) post-secondary enrollment(which includes any citizen seeking a higher education); c) CTE courses (includes apprenticeships or work-based learning); and d) students earning industry credentials(again, any citizen involved in this).”

ESSA Aligners

Black-Rose-05

Back in February 2016, we Anti CCSS (and anti Fed Ed) Warriors listened in horror as Sen. Lamar Alexander listed off several groups already hard at work over implementing the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). We have witnessed these same groups repeatedly backing Common Core, Career Tech Education, Competency Based Education, and all the other aspects in this illegally based education reform.

So, what are the implementation efforts of these groups? That is the focus of today’s ‘From the Files’ article.

The Groups Mentioned during the Speech:

On Feb. 25, 2016, during the first U.S. Senate HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee, Sen. Lamar Alexander revealed the following groups had formed a coalition to ensure education fit the ESSA.

National Governors Association, The National Educators Association, School Superintendents Association (aka: American Association of School Administrators),
American Federation of Teachers, National Conference of State Legislators, National Association of State Boards of Education, The National School Boards Association, National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, the National Secondary School Principals Association, and with the support of the Chief Council of State School Officers.
(Source: the Senate HELP Committee Hearing from 2/25/16)
To see the rest of the previously published article where this information above came from: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/02/29/warriors-guide-to-essa/

Since every one of these groups in part of the CCSS Machine, remember, their reports, articles, and resources will all put a positive spin on ESSA! Warriors, like myself, have combed through the ESSA and reported how damaging it will be.

NGA (National Governor’s Association):
From their website, a recap of the Winter meeting reveals that Sen. Alexander was present to extol not only education reform, but improving lives. See the recap: http://www.nga.org/cms/home/news-room/news-releases/2016–news-releases/col2-content/2016-nga-winter-meeting-recap.html
(*Note: the Recap will not give specifics about what was said, but I did find the following excerpt in the Meeting’s related News section.)

State implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). In December, Congress passed this landmark legislation, which repealed the No Child Left Behind Act and devolved federal control of legislation, returning power to the states. At the Education and Workforce Committee session, governors discussed how states can move forward with ESSA implementation. The conversation continued at a Senate hearing this morning, at which Gov. Herbert testified. “Governors view ESSA as an opportunity for states to set high—but realistic—expectations for schools while allowing them to determine how to meet those expectations,” he said.”
(*Note: click on the highlighted word to gain access to the over 1 hour meeting on video!)

NEA (National Educators Association):
Leading the NEA is Lily Garcia. She has made a name for the efforts to back ESSA (according to her page on the NEA website). It is called ‘Spring Into the ESSA’.
lilygarcia
According to Lily, April 3rd is the date the NEA will, indeed, spring into your schools. How?
“Beginning April 3, NEA local associations nationwide will be hosting meetings, school walk-ins, panel discussions, and community forums designed to explain what the law means and how we can implement it in ways that benefit students.” (*Note: if you are not sure what a school walk-in is, click the highlighted link to see the 2/17 event.) Related to the NEA is the ‘State and Local ESSA Implementation Network’. See:

The American Association of School Administrators (AKA: The School Superintendents Association):
This group has quite a few resources we Warriors can use and learn from. Below is one of the more helpful ones in a screen shot:
AASAESSA
To access the entire presentation: ESSA Approps NCE 2016
To see their other ESSA resources: http://www.aasa.org/pages/templates/gsesearch.aspx?q=ESSA

AFT (American Federation of Teachers):
Before we look at their current ESSA activities, check out the screen shot below:
AFTpetition
From their March 2016 News, you can find this excerpt:AFT and CCSSO were at the core of an unprecedented alliance of education, parent, community and civil rights groups that secured enactment of ESSA last December—an achievement many longtime observers have labeled Washington’s “Christmas miracle” at a time of partisan gridlock. The March meeting between the two organizations suggested the possibility of that work continuing, based on a shared dissatisfaction with the No Child Left Behind status quo and a shared belief that states need to give the grass roots a real say in the rollout of the replacement law.” Read the rest:

Related is an article the AFT published about the ESSA success in Utah: http://www.aft.org/news/utah-seizes-essa-opportunity-testing-evaluation

National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL):
From their dedicated pages of ESSA resources, you can find all sorts of things related to the ESSA. One, in particular, caught my eye. It was when the NCSL worked with the NGA to push for the passage of ESSA. Why is this vital to our War Against the Core? Look at the plans both groups hatched up for states and local levels! See: NGA_NCSL_ESEAPlan_Final
To access the other resources: http://www.ncsl.org/ncsl-in-dc/standing-committees/education/every-student-succeeds-act-essa-information-and-resources.aspx
(*Note: be sure to check back periodically on this website, as the NCSL will continue to add more items.)

NASBE (National Association of State  Boards of Education):
On their archived Webinar page, you can find at least 4 concerning the ESSA. ‘Principal Standards and the ESSA‘, ‘ESSA and Early Learning’, ‘ESSA Briefing’, and the ‘Next Generation Assessments’. See: http://www.nasbe.org/news-info/multimedia/webinars/webinar-archives/ (*Note, these archives are as recent as early March 2016.)

NSBA (National School Boards Association):
This group has much to say about ESSA, but the most helpful for what we can use, is their announcement of the upcoming ‘Rules for Implementation Process’ for the ESSA. Why is this important, it will be one of the FEW public opportunities to be involved! See the screen shot:
NSBEEssa

NAESP (National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals):
This group recently visited Washington D.C. to stump for the implementation of ESSA. Read their report: http://www.naesp.org/content/nation-s-principals-visit-capitol-hill-launch-naesp-s-advocacy-agenda-essa-implementation

NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals):
Find out, not only, how they are tracking the implementation process of ESSA, but are advocating for funding tied to the ESSA. See: http://blog.nassp.org/2016/03/21/advocacy-update-tracking-essa-2/
This group will also be hosting upcoming ESSA webinars. Below is one set for tomorrow!
If you cannot sign up for this, I have and will do my best to share all I can learn.
NASSPESSA

Finally, the CCSSO, Chief Council of State School Officers:
You can bet, just like their partner in educational crimes, the NGA (remember, both the NGA and CCSSO hold the copyrights to the Common Core State Standards), the CCSSO will have PLENTY to do with the ESSA’s implementation.
They have a dedicated ESSA implementation page. See: http://www.ccsso.org/Resources/Programs/Every_Student_Succeeds_Act.html (*Note: jam packed with pro CCSS materials!)
Here is their brief on the funding stream changes: Summary of Significant Spending and Fiscal Rules in ESSA – 03092016

Closing:
Warriors, as you can see, we have lots of evidence here. Share this news, compare it to the ANTI CCSS/Fed Led Ed evidence I, along with others, have given you straight from the Law, not our CCSS Machine agenda perspective. Each of these groups above has sold our nation out!

How the CCSS Machine is acting over ESSA.

To you, my fellow anti CCSS Warriors, I salute your diligence in fighting the overreach of Common Core, Competency Based Education, Career Tech Ed, College/Career Readiness, and all that goes with them for the Workforce based education system we see happening every day.

I congratulate you on your use of patriotism to see that the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is a farce for American education.

However, we have much to do. Why? As I shared in my ‘Weekend News’, the full U.S. Senate will either confirm or deny Dr. John King as the Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Ed. on March 9th, 2016. But, there is MORE!

roman-army-testudo-formation
How the Anti CCSS Warriors are acting over the ESSA.

The List of ESSA Fools:

Not that we don’t already know there are lots of ESSA fools, but for a refresher, here are the groups of a newly formed coalition, Sen. Alexander revealed have already begun working hard of revamping education to fit the ESSA. (Source: the Senate HELP Committee Hearing from 2/25/16)
National Governors Association, The National Educators Association, School Superintendents Association (aka: American Association of School Administrators),
American Federation of Teachers, National Conference of State Legislators, National Association for the State Boards of Education, The National School Boards Association, National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, the National Teachers Association, and with the support of the Chief Council of State School Officers.

Why are they fools? First, they are well known CCSS Machine members. Secondly, they all have gone out of their way to align education and lie about how great the alignment is. Their third foolish action? Helping spread the misinformation about the ESSA and the return of the States sovereignty in education.

Leading this fools battalion? The U.S. Congress and the mainstream media! Has the misinformation worked? Absolutely!

The Focus of the Anti CCSS Warriors:

From the time the ESSA was voted on and passed into law, our sole focus has been exposing the TRUTH about how the federal government, NOT the States will run education.

From today forward, you, the Anti CCSS Warrior, will have a document with proof of just how the federal government has hidden this control in plain sight. This document is one I created for my state’s legislators. I share it with you so you can continue (or begin) to help your legislators see the TRUTH. As always, in this War Against the Core, we don’t have much time.

Our actions MUST be planned well, carried out with purpose, and focused on our target: Ending federal control of education. The document is titled ‘ESSA Proof of National Control, Not State Control’. It is an “Open Office Document” which will download to your computer first, then you should be able to open it successfully. Be a ‘modern day Martin Luther’ and nail this document on the legislators doors!

Closing:

Anti CCSS Warriors, this is the time to be radical, not shy. This is the time to strike fear into the Senate’s direction. They seek re-election. They won’t get our votes should they confirm Dr. King. While I am not suggesting physical aggression toward another person, I am suggesting we use a ‘hostage-like attitude’ toward the process of Dr. King’s confirmation. We have the POWER, not Congress. It is time we use that power to its fullest!

It is STILL a government of the people, for the people, and by the people!

Oh, and one last thought, while you contemplate whom to NOT vote for, 19 of the 22 members of the U.S. Senate HELP Committee voted FOR the ESSA!

Monday Musings: More than Meets the Eye

armchair
You won’t believe what I saw this weekend!

If you are fighting the data collection that accompanies the CCSS Machine’s overreach into our educational systems, its leaders, its students, then you will want to be sure to reach today’s “Monday Musings”.

As you may know (or maybe you didn’t know), I am a huge college football fan. As such, I try to take a little time off each Saturday afternoon to watch the games. On Saturday, Dec. 5th, I was doing just that when I noticed this one commercial from Microsoft appear. It didn’t appear just one or two times, it appeared several times (sorry, I didn’t get an exact count). At first, I basically ignored the commercial (after all, it is over 1 minute long). However, I began to notice the rhetoric in the advertisement was causing the anti CCSS Warrior in me to say, “Wait, what did that ad just reveal?”. I am including the ad below from You Tube, so you can watch it before we dive into the rest of this article.

Go back and listen for how many athletes are tracked data wise, listen again for what information about those athletes is tracked. If you didn’t catch it, these special needs kids’ health (which includes every aspect of their health) is not only being data mined/tracked, it is being used as part of their progress! Did you catch how the Microsoft Cloud can even look at their past performances?!

While Microsoft is supplying the data mining tool, did you notice it was the Special Olympics CEO who was speaking about the data tracking? Did you notice the ‘global’ vent in which she was speaking? If you would like to see the global agenda behind SO (Special Olympics), see:
http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Fact%20Sheet_SOI%20General%20Overview.pdf

SO and CCSS in the Schools:

Don’t get me wrong, I am not out to vilify SO. Rather, my point is to show you the ties back to CCSS, SO is participating in. For example, the SO school program “Get Into It” is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education!
See (https://getintoit.specialolympics.org/) While you cannot access the lessons unless you are a registered member, the fine print tells you the school program fits state standards. Another school specific program SO has is called “Project Unify”, check out the pro CCSS groups tapped as the partners, “Partnerships with education organizations such as the NEA Foundation, The State Education Agency K-12 Service-Learning Network (SEANet), the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), National School Boards Association (NSBA), The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National Dropout Prevention Center (NDPC),the IDEA Partnership and many others.” (Source: http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Sections/What_We_Do/Project_Unify/Project%20UNIFY%20Toolkit.pdf)

Project Unify’s 2010 Case Study is another document you can easily find pro CCSS ties in. Be sure to see all 200 plus pages of this Study. You will learn much more about the SO’s support of the re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act) See the screen shot below:
SO21
Source: http://www.specialolympics.org/uploadedFiles/Sections/What_We_Do/Project_Unify/Project%20UNIFY%20Toolkit.pdf

SO and CCSS Outside the Classroom:

Among SO‘s sponsors is the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) who have shown their CCSS love all to well. Notice, also that a national organization representing school counselors is also a sponsor. What’s so CCSS friendly about school counselors? In case you missed my very special article detailing a White House led program to align all school counselors to CCSS, here it is:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/

As far as those pro CCSS organizations who partner with SO, you will find Bank of America, Unicef, Microsoft and others. To find them all, http://www.specialolympics.org/faqs.aspx (*Note, the Partners will be all the way down at the bottom of the page and you will need to click on the right hand arrow to see all of the partners.)

CCSS and Sports:

Sometime last year I wrote this CCSS Physical Education article. In I reveal for you just how much of our school’s PE programs are crossing over to the CCSS way of education. See: http://preventcommoncore.com/?p=1080

Gates Foundation and the Kennedy Foundation:

As you may, or may not know, Eunice Kennedy Shriver was a key person in the history of SO. However, since her passing did you know the Foundation which bears her name has received Gates Foundation grants for the purpose of human scientific research? What does this have to do with the Microsoft Cloud commercial?
Let’s see if there is a connection.
First, consider that the Gates Foundation’s 2009 grant to the Shriver Foundation was for biomarkers to assess micronutrient exposure, status, and function/effect’ (see: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/How-We-Work/Quick-Links/Grants-Database/Grants/2009/09/OPP1003253)
While this may (or may not) in fact have been some of the ground work needed to help the Microsoft Cloud collect the type of human data featured in the commercial, I cannot prove beyond the shadow of a doubt.

However,  it is very important to note here that Mrs. Shriver’s Foundation is a part of the NIH (National Institutes of Health) and that the NIH is part of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, the 3rd federal department helping the nation’s alignment to CCSS/CTE (Common Core State Standards and Career Tech Education). The others? The U.S. Dept. of Education and the U.S. Dept. of Labor!  What is very interesting is when I did a general term search on the NIH for “Common Core Standards”, I was led to a document where NIH‘s data mining, sharing, and “biobanking” are laid out. Access the document, pmi-working-group-report-20150917-2
What is ‘biobanking’? It refers to banks where human tissue samples, their DNA, and other such personal items are stored. While I was able to find a University of Helsinki/Microsoft Cloud agreement where it was stated that non public bio banking and genome data was not to be shared, it did NOT appear to prohibit public bio banks! See the screen shot below:
helsinkimicro
See the entire agreement: http://www.helsinki.fi/atk/tike/liitetiedostot/Office365_EULA_en.pdf

Closing:

Anti CCSS Warriors, please note that all the above information is given to help point out some of the sheer audaciousness the pro CCSS education reform agenda is becoming. It isn’t the first time we will see a wolf in sheep’s clothing ad, nor, will it be the last. However, if we don’t stop, take notice, and then, share information connected, we will be no more helpful than a screen door on a submarine! We must be diligent, even in our ‘down time’. Please, if you have more information about data mining, biobanking, how invasive the Cloud (no matter if it is Microsoft’s, Apple’s or some other company) is with regard to human information, or other connections which we can use to help shine the light; share what you know! We, as anti CCSS Warriors need every bit of teamwork we can muster.

Weekend News: Your Anti CCSS Back To School Wish

Jpeg image credit: imgion.com
Jpeg image credit: imgion.com

Warriors, have no fear, I’ve not converted to the supportive side for “Common Core”. I’m still VERY MUCH opposed. However, as we all know, it is the time of year our schools are gearing up for “Back to School”. For many of us, that means MORE CCSS. During this past week, I shared with you how the Bic Ink Pens Company is hosting a BTS (Back to School) Contest full of ‘Common Core English Language Arts’ lessons. What else is lurking out there? Plenty! This weekend’s news feature is the CCSS laden “Parent Toolkit”.

“Education Nation”:

Using Twitter as a tool for building support for Back to School, this NBC News project (NBC is part of the CCSS Machine), has a current campaign called “#SchoolYrResolution”. Who’s contributing? Everyday parents like you and I; Pearson Publishing; The American Heart Association; Education Nation and NBC personalities; Parent Toolbox (another NBC Education Nation project); doctors; and, school districts. While most everyone’s contributions are varied, it is the Pearson Publishing contributions that are the most pointed…toward MORE parent involvement. If you’re not familiar with the ideas Pearson has about more parent involvement (a nice way to phrase their real meaning of ‘compliance’), I urge you to find out for yourselves. As far as “Education Nation’s Parent Toolbox” goes, it’s slam full of pro CCSS social-emotional mind bending.

www.parenttoolkit.com
http://www.parenttoolkit.com

The Mind Bending:

By simply searching the PT (Parent Toolkit) with the phrase “Common Core”, I got back the following results: Academics, 12 articles;  Health and Wellness, 19 articles; Social and Emotional, 8 articles; lastly, the latest news on CCSS, 48 articles.
Titles among the latest news include how grit and persevering CAN be taught and then there’s one detailing their version of STEM (as you know, I’ve shared a true version of STEM with you many times). Repeated in several different articles: sex, bullying, on-line behavior, money management, and lots more. Under social/emotional, you’ll see empathy, diversity, and how to collaborate. As far as the experts putting all this information together for you, the parent, there are several of them. You’ll see their names and smiling faces, but to learn more about them, you need to click on each of them. I would encourage you to look into them. Most folks, will do what we’ve seen before: add the ‘expert’ title to a face featured on a famous website and leave it at that. That’s what the CCSS Machine is banking on..that we WON’T investigate those experts they use. But, oh, how we’ve proved them wrong.

The Other Supportive CCSS Machine Members of Parent Toolkit:

Curious about how many of the experts were dyed in the wool CCSS supporters, I searched for information. Not getting the results I bargained for, however, did lead me to the ‘other’ pro CCSS groups involved in ‘Parent Toolkit’ and as such, part of the efforts to sway parents toward the CCSS Machine.

Hunt Institute is a well known part of the CCSS Machine (if you don’t know how, please find my fellow anti CCSS Warrior, LadyLiberty1885’s blog and search for “Hunt Institute”)
NEA, Khan Academy, Council of Great City Schools, Sesame Street, the National PTA, SAT, and many others. See: http://www.parenttoolkit.com/?objectid=E0F96EB0-20A6-11E3-8EC10050569A5318

What We Can Do:

Share this news with other parents, first of all!
Second, why not visit the Twitter page for the School Year Resolution and make a few anti CCSS truths available.
Look into the Parent Toolkit’s experts, philosophies, and use these are guidelines for interviewing those school officials who will be leading your students this year. Are they of the same mindset? If so, use your true knowledge of social emotional damage CCSS causes! Remember, most pro CCSS folks have no evidence to support its worth, yet we have evidence to support its harm! Use it!!

Closing:

So, my anti CCSS Warriors, what is your Back to School Wish? We know we want to be Common Core free. We still have time to influence our national level legislators as they are home on break right now. The Student Success Act and the Every Child Achieves Act are both being updated and enlarged. The bills are’omnibus’ bills. This is BAD. As we’ve seen with other mammoth bills, this means all kinds legislation unrelated to education will be thrown in! We know we desire a post secondary education free of the CCSS’s CTE (Career Technical Education), CP (Career Pathways), and the recently revealed CBPs (Competency Based Pathways). This means we must be on top of the re-authorization of the HEA, Higher Education Act.
Keep going, my friends, we’ve got lots to do.

FYI: Post Secondary Common Core Intel

Tired of being led astray by the CCSS Machine? I am!
Tired of being led astray by the CCSS Machine? I am!

Anti CCSS/CTE Warriors, are you sick and tired of the repeated lies we hear about how the CCSS is just K-12th grades? I got fed up with it from the beginning. That’s why I’ve specialized in researching all the other areas of education CCSS swears it is..but, oh how we know it is.

To that end I’m devoting the rest of this article to the POST SECONDARY evidence new followers of my blog and/or new anti CC Warriors will need to have access to. Why? If you don’t have access to this information, it’s very likely our legislators don’t have it either. As a dedicated warrior/researcher in the War Against the Core. We need to share this type of information with those in the authoritative positions SO they can help END Common Core, Career Tech Education, and all the related components of the CCSS Machine.

Each of the article links below are from previously published researched posts. Each is written so you have the facts, not opinions. Each contains links to the documents to support the truth and/or dispel the lies. We’ve not much time before the HEA (Higher Education Act) is set to be re-authorized.

We MUST use the information we already know to combat Sen. Alexander and Sen. Murray’s push for more alignment to the CCSS Machine in higher education. We MUST also use this information to influence our legislators to combat the same efforts for Pre-K through 12th grades!! Why? Because, what’s been started in the Pre-K through 12th grade (the Student Success Act and the Every Child Achieves Act) WILL be carried on in the HEA’s re-authorization!

From Sept. 2014, Common Core, Career Tech Education in our community colleges.

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/18/tech-thursday-common-core-community-college/
Why your legislators need to know this: the movement to make community colleges into workforce stations, as well as offer courses for ‘free’. There’s a dangerous misinformed mindset out there surrounding ‘free tuition’.
As we’ve seen, NOTHING about Common Core is ‘free’ or worth investing in.

If you don’t share any other facts with those responsible for helping create the laws, this is the one paragraph from the above article you should pass on.
“Common Core Standards in community colleges, you say? Certainly not! Ahh, sadly my friends, community colleges are being made over to also align with the CC ‘just standards’ Standards. You may know from personal experience or from someone close to you about  community colleges. They are what used to be known as ‘Junior Colleges’, and are 2 year  schools of higher learning. Selling points have been that the schools are local, a great bang for your education buck, not as stringent with admissions, have a better professor/student ratio. This of course, may change drastically as we continue to see Common Core implemented in whatever fashion the states choose. One fact is for certain: if we only seek to rid K-12 schools of Common Core, we’re not really going to be as effective as if we consider the Standards are before kindergarten and extend to colleges of all distinctions.”

From October 2014, Workforce through the Common Core filter.

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/30/tech-thursday-workforce-common-core-style/
Why your legislators need to have this article’s information: if we are to truly be against Common Core, we MUST also oppose it’s damage in our workforce.

Things you should share about the Workforce and Common Core, Career Tech Education:
a) assessments are being realigned to manipulate student’s careers
b) many alphabet soup programs, entities are being used as the vehicles of choice to force CCSS/CTE outcome based education (performance based NOT academic based)
c) outside forces are influencing education which have no legal authority to do so
d) the joint efforts which ‘marry’ labor and education are toxically filled with CCSS Machine products, services, and lies
From November 2014, two articles about how the Vice President is leading the CCSS/Workforce bandwagon.

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/rmt-sunday-vp-common-core-and-jobs/
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/11/16/rmt-vp-unions-career-tech-and-common-core/

What your legislators need to know: acting on the orders of the current U.S. President, the Vice President has been a big leader in aligning post secondary education and the workforce.

The one portion of the memo creating this task for Joe Biden you should share, ”  “Job-Driven Reform of Federal Employment and Training Programs. (a) Within 180 days of the date of this memorandum and in coordination with the Office of the Vice President, the National Economic Council, the Domestic Policy Council, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Office of Management and Budget, the Secretaries of Labor, Commerce, and Education(Secretaries), in consultation with other executive departments and agencies as appropriate, shall develop a specific action plan, to be provided to me through the Vice President, tomake the workforce and training system more job-driven, integrated, and effective.”Among one of the ‘concrete steps’, is this:  “ensuring better alignment across secondary,post-secondary, and adult education, and workforce training, including coordinating Federal programs and promoting foundational skill development for employability, on-the-job training, and apprenticeship options..” then:  “encouraging effective regionalpartnerships among industry, educators, worker representatives, nonprofits, and the workforce system to prepare, support, and train youth, unemployed workers, low-skilled employed adults, and others for career path employment and advancement.” “

The second most important thing to share, is how Perkins funding is being manipulated to fit the CCSS Machine’s needs, ” Maintains state administrative funding at 5 percents of a state’s allocation
The new law also requires the development of articulation agreements and strengthens local
accountability provisions. The Perkins Act provides almost $1.3 billion annually to career and technical education programs in all 50 states until 2016.’ Each state gets to decide how to split the funding between secondary schools and post-secondary schools. (source: http://www.aypf.org/documents/PerkinsActFactSheet.pdf) ”

From December 2014, how CTE and CCSS are impacting those with alternative education needs.

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/03/tech-thursday-career-techcommon-core-and-alternative-education/
What your legislators need to know. CCSS/CTE is a one-student-learns-the-same-as-all-the-others system. Students in the ‘alternative’ category will be the MOST damaged by this. There should be NO place in ANY education level that supports or accepts alignment as a great thing!
The one paragraph they should read? ” This 2013 presentation supports UDL (Universal Designed Learning) for teaching all ‘special populations’ (their phrase, not mine)
http://www.careertech.org/sites/default/files/C1MahadevanUDL_AccessibletoAll.pdf (originally out of the Texas Education Administration); from Alabama, a presentation on streamlining all students into CTE: http://www.careertech.org/sites/default/files/C5MSmithcareercluster-1.pdf “

From December 2014, two articles exposing the Federal Budget’s alignment dollars towards CCSS/CTE in post secondary education.

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/12/fom-friday-2015-fed-ed-budget/
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/13/sic-em-saturday-more-fed-budget-watch/
What your legislators need to know: the 10th Amendment plainly states NO federal involvement in what wasn’t laid out in Amendments 1-9! Education, along with several other states rights issues, are to NOT have ANY federal influence..including money! As one who has been elected to represent the citizens and taken an oath to uphold our U.S. Constitution, these legislators should NOT be seeking federal funds for education..period. Common Core/Career Tech at the post secondary level included! They also need to know how other federal level agencies are chiming in and using funds in the name of CCSS/CTE for post secondary levels.

Want to see where our money goes? Here’s an excerpt:
Where our taxes are going to help support the CCSS Machine:
$300 million for a new Race to the Top (student longitudinal data system on a state-wide platform); $14.4 billion for Title One College/Career Readiness; $1.1 billion for those 21st Century Community Learning Centers (think cradle to grave agenda); $100 million for “Promise Neighborhoods” (cradle to career initiative); $70 million for Statewide Longitudinal Student Data System; $200 million for ConnectED (trains teachers to be CCSS and college/career readiness aligned, assessments, digital aspects, and more in the classroom); $5 billion for incentives (RESPECT) teachers who’ve completed College/Career Readiness training, building like-minded network; $1.3 billion in mandatory preK for everyone; $165 million for “Investment in Innovation” (i3) which will use a best-practices approach to education while affording the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Education a whopping $49.5 million to transform technology; $150 million to redesign high schools so they become college/career ready centers; $170 million for STEM revitalizing (of that, $110 million goes to LEAs to create a STEM network; $40 million to create a teacher STEM Pathway, $20 million to create a National STEM Teacher Corps;$1.1 billion to reauthorize the Perkins Act (means even more Career Tech Ed that’s aligned to CCSS). “

From January 2015, More evidence for post secondary education’s alignment to the CCSS Machine:

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/06/ftf-more-evidence-for-aligned-ccss-higher-education/
What our legislators need to know: those very groups so eager to help them are part of the CCSS Machine. NEA, AFT, and the list goes on. They also need to know that all the alignment in post secondary education ISN’T just for the students! All staff will be aligned, just as in Pre-K through 12th grades. Show them the networks, the documents in this article!!

Finally, from January 2015, the National Career Pathway Network:

https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/tech-thursday-national-career-pathways-network/
What the legislators need to know: “Career Pathways is post-secondary Common Core and is coming at our students (regardless of age or school choice) via the recent Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.”

What to share that is THE most important? The 10 Agenda points from the Dept. of Education and the 6 Keys from the Dept. of Labor! Then, ‘hit’ them with the ‘slick sales pitches’ we citizens are being slammed with!

Blog note: You’ll notice this article is in a new category “Weekend News”. Until further notice, I’m combining the 3 separate blog categories of “Fib-o-Meter Friday”, “Sic’ ‘Em Saturday”, and, “Riddle Me This?! Sunday” into one. With the recent change of status in my mother’s decline into Alzheimer’s Disease, I must adjust my schedule. I thank you for your support, your patience with me during this time. Each of the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday features WILL return sometime in the future.
