Education Relationships

To My  Anti Fed Ed Warriors, I hope the exposure of federal legislative bills has been helpful. I know it’s been eye opening.

While it’s taken several articles to cover them, I’d like to think I’m almost through. However, I’m not.

S 2084 “Community Partnerships in Education Act”:

Warriors, this bill (Sponsored by Sen. Whitehouse, RI) was introduced back in November 2017. It’s currently in the Senate HELP Committee. Before I get to the details of S 2084, let’s examine the Senator’s stance on education:

Warriors, the way ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) was written and passed into federal law, education took a ‘back seat’ to economic gain (for global competitiveness) AND workforce alignment. A ‘classic’ CCSS Machine move.

If you look at the many bills this Senator has either sponsored or co-sponsored, you’ll see similar CCSS Machine agenda items popping up. For example, his Museum and Library Act of 2017; his legislation connecting the federal government to Pell Grants. Then, there’s an amendment to the HEA (Higher Education Act), as well as a ‘biomedical innovation funding’ bill. Biomedical innovation” is being factored into education more rapidly than ever. (*Note: if you are not sure how Museum and Library Grants can be tied to the CCSS Machine, go here.)

Warriors, HEA is the LAST link (law) to receive a ‘makeover’.
Leading the charge to re-write the HEA? Sen. Lamar Alexander. (Over in the House, it’s Rep. Virginia Foxx.) Both are 100% sold out to the CCSS Machine.

Reading Between The Lines:

From S 2084’s pages, Warriors, these federal strings in education:
Page 3 reveals that the Carl Perkins Act will be amended. If you’re not sure how the  assessments tied to all those 21st Century Skills will be impacted by this amendment, look below. It’s the existing language from 2006:

What’s really interesting, however, Warriors, is that at the top of the page from the US Code Office, it plainly states that the “Text contains those laws in effect on March 1, 2018”.
I urge you to read this resource! You’ll see how more federal (supposedly with the States cooperation) data mining has been embedded and will INCREASE with a bill like S 2084.

Sen. Whitehouse’s S 2084 will insert more P3s in our classrooms. (P3s are public private partnerships). ESSA’s language mandated an increase in P3s in education. WHY? Because our education MUST be aligned to workforce needs. Somehow, the P3s know more about education than the teachers.

HR 4272 (Community Partnerships in Education Act)

Warriors, this Bill is also sponsored by a RI legislator (Rep. Cicilline). However, this one has several  OTHER co-sponsors. By no coincidence, HR 4272 was introduced at the same time as S 2084. These 2 bills are 19 pages, have the same language, AND are being led from Rhode Island legislators.

Warriors, this is awful! Not only do these RI elected leaders, promote this aligned agenda, they are working together to pull it off!
Cicilline’s bill increases non profits in education. Especially for CTE (Career Tech Education, the ‘adult’ workforce training portion of the CCSS Machine) AND STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math). It also seeks to add 21st Century Skills Attainment as a performance accountability portion of every State’s education plan.

Warriors, we know ESSA gave more educational power to the federal government and not the States. This is further evidence that the ESSA mandates (more P3s, more CTE, more STEM, more wrap around community alignment via after school programs, etc.) are being carried out via NEW LEGISLATION! Possible NEW laws for MORE federal level (and less, local) control.


Reading Between These Lines:

Within HR 4272, you’ll find the Bill has two purposes. The first is to insert non-profits and  intermediaries into local schools. These groups will be responsible for not only planning what it taught, but carrying it out. The second is to amend the HEA.

You’ll also find that Perkins funding (used in higher education but calculated on the number of 5 to 17 years old students in each State) is going to be used to help pay for the ‘community partners’. By doing this, the door for more CTE and STEM will be mandatory.

To accomplish this type of move, the Carl Perkins CTE Act of 2006 must be amended. This will also factor in the insertion of the ’21st Century Skills’ as an accountability measure. What makes up those skills? Not educators!

Data mining, assessments (you have to have those to measure how attainable 21st Century Skills are), and, professional development for CTE and STEM will come with HR 4272.

The TRIO programs currently under HEA’s governance will also be thrown into the mix. This is how HR 4272 will amend the Higher Education Act. You’ll also find the GEAR UP programs involved. The U.S. Secretary of Education will ‘encourage’ community partners to seek grants to help carry out the aligned workforce education.

Lastly, for HR 4272, the U.S. Secretary of Education will get to determine what existing education programs will be maintained AND create room for EXPANDING others.

Does this sound like LESS federal control, Warriors?!

Digitally “Fried”

Warriors, we’ve heard plenty of CCSS Machine rhetoric about “Personalized Learning”. The CCSS Machine has taken a classic teaching tool and destroyed its true purpose.

The phrase has been bounced around SO much by the propaganda, the ‘objective’ studies and research, and all those profiting off the NEW rendition of Personalized Learning (PL) that most everyone has no clue as to what PL should truly be. Most only know it means a computer. Too much computer time/instruction means a ‘digitally fried’ student, a frustrated teacher, and a sold out state of existence.

So, before we get much further into how ‘digitally fried’ our nation has become, I want you to consider the ‘burning’ question you see below:

*Note: While what you see above is NC specific, this is NOT a problem exclusive to the State. You will find similar in your State. We will be re-visiting the moves NC is making later. But first, a national view.

Classic PL:

Much like the tasty potatoes you order at a restaurant, you’ll notice there are choices. There are ‘classic’ fries (meaning cooked just right, a little salt, not too thin or thick cut), curly fries, seasoned fries, fries smothered in cheese, and other endless examples.

TRUE PL closely resembles the classic fries. How do I know? Ask a retired educator (The best people to ask  need to be over 40 or 50 years old). Look at a classical education model.

True PL plans show a lot of flexibility in both the teacher AND the student; a variety of teaching tools, styles, games to engage the student’s 5 senses or their whole body.

Today’s ‘digitally fried’ PL, uses agenda driven, watered down versions of plans, tools, and resources. Today’s PL hardly uses the student’s 5 senses/whole body.

Think about it from the fries example, lots of copy cat versions seeking to improve upon the classic order of fries, but not nearly as satisfying. Education is HARDLY the place for copy cat, failure embedded versions of what really works.

Ask a researcher or a child psychologist; look at the way in which some school desks have been redesigned. This picture (below)stated it was ideal for the kinesthetic  learner.

Well, which KIND of kinesthetic learner?! The student who needs to keep only their hands busy or the student who needs to move around, sit on their legs, or be able to turn around? As the mother of a kinesthetic learner, I can tell you, my child would not have liked this desk/bike at all. Why? Limited movement. Too much limited movement for some learners like this, stunts their thinking and will cause burn-out when it comes to completing assignments.

Oh, and the cost of one of these desk/bikes? A single one can be over $1,000.00; One like these 4 seater? Almost $3,700.00! True PL can be accomplished at a fraction of this cost. Who foots the bill for ‘school improvements’ like what you see above? TAXPAYERS! With the way the current education laws are written, P3s (public private partnerships) will also be helping with ‘improvements’ like this. Think of it this way, they want to be the ultimate order of ‘loaded fries’ in your school. A whole lot of ‘eye appealing yumminess’ and a lot of ‘bad for you’ calories.

What does the U.S. Dept. of Ed say PL is?  That depends..do you want the PL for teachers, leaders, or students? See below:

Dear Old NC:

Now that you see how the nation is serving up PL, just what is SO important I have to (once again) call out NC’s activities?! For starters, the CCSS Machine mouthpieces shouted ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) would free the States, mean less testing (assessments), and so forth. As research is proving in real time since ESSA’s passage, States are creating ways in which to appear like they are taking control of education, but when you look closely, you see the national agenda in the plans. How so? Look below:

Before I share more, let me state for the record that I know some of our NC legislators personally. I know they absolutely hate the CCSS Machine and what it is doing to NC. I know you have legislators like this in your State. While not every legislator serving us will be a party to this kind of activity, there are countless others who either will or simply are not aware of how many strings are being put into place.

NC’s been in the news before for what looked like a repeal, but was in all honesty, a rebrand. That was when we supposedly repealed CCSS. Nope, the law which went into place was watered down to a name change. We had the chance to totally ditch the CCSS mustard and ketchup for our fries, and didn’t!

So what else does this ‘new’ Repeal-but-not-really Law do?
a) gives an illusion
b) will be taxpayer funded

d) allows for retention of students from grade to grade
e) supposedly improves transition from elementary grades to middle school; middle to high school as defined by the NC State Board of Ed. Who heads our State Board of Ed? Dr. June Atkinson, State Superintendent AND President of the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers)!
f) by repealing ‘personalized learning’ this Law opens the flood gates for ‘alternative assessments’.

What the State Board Says:

If your State Board of Ed is anything like NC’s, you are sick to no end of their selections they serve up when it comes to education. (Think rotten fries or spoiled potatoes..they stink!) Above, point E shifts the responsibility of defining PL from the lawmakers to the educators. While that is as it should be, the obvious fly in the room is that those serving as educators are sold out to the CCSS Machine’s agenda.

In a few days, our State Board will have a meeting (8/31 and 9/1). Among the topics?

Included in the announcement of this topic was a supporting 22 page document. By removing the PL as it had been defined, the State Board listed ALL the ‘alternative assessments’ they used in conducting a survey of what works and what doesn’t. The actions the Board will take with PL’s ‘repeal’ or revision will more than likely be based on this survey!

In other words, a steady diet of ’24/7 loaded fries’ will continue!

You have to see this. Not only have these ‘spuds which are really duds’ been  24/7 assessing, most, if not all are DIGITAL!

By the State Board’s apparent direction, that means humongous data mining will CONTINUE.  ESSA and WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) increase this mining via State grants/incentives.

To name a few for the K-3rd graders in English and Math: Dibels, iReady, Discovery Education,Dreambox, universal screening, performance monitoring, past performance, SchoolNet Benchmarks, and MAP.

For these students in their ‘success’ or ‘achievement’ measuring (remember, K-3rd graders): SAT Teams; teacher observations; outside entities like the Dept. of Social Service, law enforcement, etc.; below grade level activities; mental health involvement, and after-school programs.

You will find the same types of measuring students in grades 4th and 5th; 6th-8th; and 9th-12th. What I noticed is the K-3rd grade group has more than the others. When you consider ESSA embeds birth to 3rd overreach, this should have you ready to fry some spuds of your own.

Weekend News for the War Against the Core

For the last weekend in April (2016), I wanted to leave you with a few things every anti CCSS Warrior needs to know about P3s (Public private partnerships). If you missed these, you can now find them in one place. If you haven’t gotten this information before, you now have some great tools to use.

Blasted P3s!

If you have followed my research long, you know that time and time again, the P3s keep showing up in the midst of the CCSS Machine and its grinding away at America. Like everything fed through the CCSS Machine, P3s and their intent is not good for education at all.

What once was to be a healthy relationship between government and the private sector has become a holy hell. Consider this: early P3 relationships concerning the private sector and schools were to BUILD the schools. That way the private sector could return to their private business and the schools could get on with teaching.

But in the shift to CBE (Competency Based Education) aka OBE, (Outcome Based Education) the private sector has done more than build the schools, they now help guide what is taught. Meanwhile the schools have appeared to have no problem selling our kids education out in the process.

In the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), States will be awarded big bucks for allowing MORE P3s in our schools, not less. P3s will get to work with the LEAs (Local Education Agencies) to determine if a student is ready to proceed to the next grade level. (Page 137 of the ESSA Final Conference Report states this.)

Recently, while on a national webinar/conference call with a pro CCSS group concerned about the ESSA and civil rights, they brought up the fact that P3s were a great thing in schools. When I asked them about Page 137 and the mandate; how would the P3s be accountable; how could the P3s do the teacher’s job, they were stumped! I was told that while they didn’t have a good answer they certainly agreed P3s need to be vetted and deemed appropriate.

Warriors, do you see what an open-ended message the ESSA used in this instance? Do you see how fraught with alignment this leaves our States?! Consider the recent news that Planned Parenthood has now been given the green light to open offices directly in select schools across the country. This is a blazing example of a P3 overreach. While it is supposed to be in high schools only, think about the fact our high schools are being redesigned (or already have been) and now include middle school age kids in the SAME buildings!! This means students younger than high school could now have access to the P3, CCSS agenda driven Planned Parenthood.

Please note, Planned Parenthood is not the only agenda driven group. There are plenty more. Ask yourselves, since ESSA has it that groups like this will help determine how ready for the next grade level your student is, HOW will they measure this?!

I hope I have not confused you on the intent embedded in the ESSA and the P3s. They mean to ruin academic education and replace it with competency based, workforce purposed, social justice minded, and constricted paths for our students. While much is being said about P3s, the danger is what ISN’T being said and how it will be carried out thanks to the ESSA!

As I recently heard an author state about this kind of treatment in another country (I have paraphrased it):
They (those in charge of government/education) do not kill you outright with guns  and knives, they kill you daily by not allowing you to be who you were meant to be or doing what you want.

To my fellow Anti CCSS/Fed Led Ed Warriors, I have gathered the following miscellaneous Pro Common Core fodder. Why? Since ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is now law, the propaganda from the CCSS Machine is working overtime to produce as much BS as it can.

If you haven’t seen the following items, you should! While the false facts are flying, we have to work HARDER to share the truth! Is this a challenge? Of course it is! Can we do it?! Sure we can!! Share this article with other anti CCSS/Fed Led Ed Warriors, discuss what you can do to help those in your area find out what REALLY is going on, not what the CCSS Machine cronies say!!

First up, the President of the NEA (National Educators Association) gives us a rundown of all teachers do in today’s classrooms. Notice where the true education ends up in her list. Notice the arrogance in her face as she runs down this list and then remember ALL the latest CCSS Machine moves, resources, and legislation which has been produced in the name of parental right being usurped or taken away! It is no wonder the CCSS Machine claims kids don’t need parents!

Secondly, as one of my fellow Anti CCSS Warriors stated, ‘who needs the truth, it just gets ignored.’ This particular video gives us a look into MORE of what is happening in our schools. I guess the NEA failed to mention this on their snarky list.

Third, The ESSA has embedded a tremendous amount of behavior modification activities, supportive programs and services, as well as other RTI (Response to Invertion) methods. Yet, it spite of it, the real evidence is coming out…RTIs are NOT working!! Yet, MORE are being planned, created, and will be used!! I hope you will continue to help me raise as much awareness to what the REAL truths are about the ESSA. Do not be discouraged if you feel NO ONE is listening. Among the Warriors, we have heard the term ‘crickets’ when we think no one cares.

It is easy to believe no one is hearing you, especially when life is so busy. However, please know that your voice is probably being heard by someone. It is your voice those around you need to hear LOUDER than those spewing lies and making light of how our educational system in being ruined and transformed into a nanny’s house. Remember, to speak LOUDER doesn’t mean we have to shout, it just means we have to use a firm, knowledge based voice.

To say something is fine, but to have the actual language and what it means is what will make your voices BOOM! Still not sure about HOW you can make a BOOMING voice without yelling? Look at the screen shot above. That is a start. It gives the specific sections you can point others to. Think your legislative/local leaders have actually read the over 1,000 page ESSA Report OR the almost 400 page ESSA Law? I doubt it. Why? If they had, they would be jumping up and down with anger of just how this Law will HARM America, not FIX it! Tech Thursday: Technically Speaking for CCSS

Last night, I had the honor of speaking out against Common Core and the ‘CCSS Machine’ as I call it. In today’s “Tech Thursday”, I will share the details so you discover for yourselves, just how broadly the all-encompassing education reform (illegally based) has progressed.

 

Technically Speaking, A Bit if Background:

When I was invited to join last night’s phone call, I asked my hostess what the topic was to be so I could prepare. The topic, she said, would be to tie in how the most recent shooting in OR,  not only Common Core, but the overall mental damage our educational system has wrought upon our schools. My part of the conversation was to see where Common Core, communities, mental health, and gun control intersected.

My first connection between all of the above came with my “Project Aware” article (published in Dec. 2014) In that article, you can find how much gun control plays into Project Aware. It ties the SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Heath Services Administration) to the President’s gun control policies presented to America just after the Sandy Hook School shootings. Bottom line technical detail: With this much effort (trust me, this is just a glimpse) put into aligning our educational leaders to the overall CCSS agenda, it’s no wonder education is in trouble. CCSS is breeding compliance.

 

Technically speaking, The Mental Health:

Okay, so we have the foundation, which is ‘compliance’. We all know that to be compliant, our thinking, our beliefs have to undergo big transformations. Our mental health plays into the CCSS Machine’s agenda beautifully. Think of all the research my fellow anti CCSS warriors have produced, especially Anita Hoge. That’s not the only source available to you as anti CCSS warriors. However. let’s move on to more technically speaking aspects of the mental health moves being made.

While getting my resources together for last night’s call, I was on Twitter about the time Bill Gates’ big educational speech was on. I was still sharing anti CCSS information with everyone, when I noticed some of the tweets and retweets surrounding this ‘big’ speech. Ones like below:
Mrs. Gates was sharing with all how social issues/social, emotional learning are just as vital to education & its reformation. The Ed & Workforce Democrats were stating early childhood is their focus at the moment because, as early as 9 months old, achievement gaps can be found! Head Start joined in the Gates speech with the words of we don’t enroll just the child, we enroll the family; citywide data collection and data sharing and using Detroit as a shining example. So, this got my attention. What else has Head Start done in the name of educational reform? Below is just one of the things I discovered:

What you see above is a program already in place for birth to 13 years of age! If you aren’t familiar with Head Start, it’s part of the U. S. Dept of Health and Human Services (one of the 3 main federal level departments involved in aligning education. Working with HHS are the U. S. Depts of Education and Labor) What this image shows us is another top down (federal to state to local) overreach. It shows us where our tax dollars are being used. It shows us how communities are being aligned right under our noses. If you look deep enough into these new centers, you can find pro CCSS funding groups like WestED; you can find international digital and data collectors like ICF International (where one of the main education consultants is a pro CCSS contributor*) You can also find the CCSS/CTE aligned Zero to Three program involved. How do I know the Zero to Three is pro CCSS/CTE? In my research. Here’s the original article I wrote:

Bottom line technical detail: When you look at the language of the Student Success Act (HR5), the Every Child Achieves Act (S1177), and the upcoming bills which will impact higher education, mental health is most definitely being used against us with the goal of re-ordering how we feel, think, and, what we believe. 

 

Technically Speaking, CCSS and Gun Control:

You have a foundation of compliance, a layer of mental health re-ordering for all involved, so where do the guns factor in? Think about all we’ve heard and seen in the homework examples where our Constitution is re-written. Consider the other social issues which have crept into our classrooms with rapid speed. Gun control is definitely in the mix. Here is the evidence of CCSS aligned lessons concerning guns.

One noteworthy thing, the first ‘guided question’ doesn’t refer to the U. S. Constitution, instead, ‘rules and guidelines created over 200 years ago’.

Are there other resources for CCSS and the Second Amendment? Sure there are. Just conduct a general internet search for ‘Common Core gun control’ or “CCSS gun control”.
Think about how distorted CCSS is making every subject it touches. Consider that while the CCSS in our lives is illegally based (breaches the 10th Amendment, breaks at least educational laws), we’re seeing policies watered down, legislation created to support the CCSS Machine..not end it!

Bottom line technical detail: CCSS, by reshaping what is taught, what is to be believed, is killing our schools. It’s rendering them as workforce training centers, not academic learning centers. I urge you to look further into the mental health parts of the CCSS Machine’s agenda. RMT Sunday: Beware of ‘Project AWARE’?!

Today’s “Riddle Me This” is geared toward finding the connecting ties between the federal overreach in education, the students, families, CCSS, 21st Century Community Centers, and more.

“Now is the Time” Initiative:

So as not to confuse you, the full title for Project AWARE is “Now is the Time” Project AWARE. I make a point to share this so that when you go to conduct a general search you can get straight to the initiative that is special to education. There are many “Project Aware” groups already out there. Each with a different purpose, but not for what we focus on today.

The U.S. federal agency the Project is housed in is the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration) Website: http://www.samhsa.gov/grants/grant-announcements/sm-14-018, according to this particular page of SAMHSA, the entire goal is,
“The purpose of the NITT-AWARE-SEA Cooperative Agreement program is to build and expand the capacity of State Educational Agencies to increase awareness of mental health issues among school-aged youth, provide training for school personnel and other adults who interact with school-aged youth to detect and respond to mental health issues in children and young adults, and connect children, youth, and families who may have behavioral health issues with appropriate services. The intent of NITT-AWARE-SEA is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated program for advancing wellness and resilience in educational settings for school-aged youth.” Now, before we go a bit further..ask yourselves..with all the meltdowns our students are having as a result of Common Core, with all the efforts to cut out parents, who will be the ones determining what is and isn’t a behavior issue? What guidelines are used in determining ‘resilience’?

The pdf document behind it all is from the White House and titled “Now is the Time: The President’s Plan to Protect our Children and Communities from Gun Violence”. Released in 2013 just after Sandy Hook (see: wh_now_is_the_time_full) From within the document, not only will data collection be a key component, but the Centers for Disease Control will be awarded research funds to study the ties between video games, multimedia images and violence, that is IF Congress gives the okay for $10 million to do so. Then, there’s this aspect, Doctors and other health care providers also need to be able to ask about firearms in their patients’ homes and safe storage of those firearms, especially if their patients show signs of certain mental illnesses or if they have a young child or mentally ill family member at home. Some have incorrectly claimed that language in the Affordable Care Act prohibits doctors from asking their patients about guns and gun safety.” 

Let me pause us here to ask a couple of questions. Have we not seen an increase in the violation of privacy not only at schools but also at the doctor’s office? If the agenda for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers continues on, who’s to say which group of people will be consider the ‘other health care providers’? What about the increase in digital dependency for learning? Who know what images are seen by the students.

Another key component to the “Now is the Time” is the presence of even more school resource personnel (including mental health professionals  AND counselors trained to offer a nurturing environment. You may be asking, well, what’s so questionable about this? What am I trying to get you to see? Well, through the scope of CCSS, the agenda that goes with it, two things. First, the nurturing of a child is a parental responsibility NOT a school’s. Second, with all the CCSS training, purposeful alignment school counselors are receiving, I have to wonder about the presence of MORE personnel..especially in the name of ‘safety’s sake’. Now, please do NOT misunderstand me. I realize there are children who need extra support and that’s great, however, we shouldn’t be adding non-school related services to a school environment. But, then again when you are trying to align a community to the ‘cradle to career’ or even ‘cradle to grave’ mindset,  you gotta do what you gotta do. This report continues on with all kinds of federal agencies, federal funds, and federal plans to ensure how schools will be safe. Why are the local districts, states, and citizens marginalized? The states are sovereign, NOT the federal government! You’ll need to read the report to see which federal level agencies are a part of this.

According to this report, mental health patients need to be identified early. I’m all for that, as the parent of two bipolar students, I know mental health is important. However, it’s the WAY the students are to be treated, and by whom, I’m most concerned about. Why? Read this excerpt, “Project AWARE includes $15 million for training for teachers and other adults who interact with youth to detect and respond to mental illness in children and young adults.” The phrase coined was “Mental Health First Aid” and teachers would be the respondents. Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t want my bipolar children diagnosed or treated for their issues by a teacher, I expect a trained, licensed bipolar specialist to help them. The teachers should be teaching! Teachers can’t teach what they need to because CCSS limits them, but they can become mental health care givers?! How will this happen? We’ll have to see, but I can tell you the report shares not long after teachers becoming first aid givers for mental health that MORE money to train MORE health care personnel is in the plan as well. It even shares how the Secretaries of Education and Health/Human Services are the ones guiding the conversations. Seriously?! Finally, on the subject of mental health in our young people, the Affordable Health Care will expand who’s covered, how much is covered in mental health services.

Back to Project AWARE:

If you go back to the website about the Grant announcements for Project AWARE, you’ll see more data mining, sharing..all in the name of schools, education, and a well balanced student. “It can assist by expanding state capacity to collect and utilize population data in order to develop and implement science informed policies and programs in schools and communities to ensure comprehensive approaches to create safe and supportive schools that address the mental health needs of young people. This will also include broadening efforts to coordinate and integrate across service systems including education, mental health, juvenile justice and law enforcement and supporting the development of approaches to integrate state and local comprehensive plans for infrastructure, services, and supports focused on the well-being and healthy development of children, youth, and young adults.” You’ll also see an expansion from not just a federal level, but state levels to be authorized to train lay people, have LEAs receive more money, authority! How is this being ushered in? Those ESEA documents! See the excerpt below:

“State Educational Agencies (SEAs) as defined by section 9101(41) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act; and applicants for this grant announcement are required to also apply for the ED SEA School Climate Transformation grant.”

So, just what does the “AWARE” mean in Project AWARE? ‘Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education’ 

How does my school district get this money? Through your state board of education. Here’s an example, I found when I typed in ‘Project AWARE Common Core’ in my search bar. An announcement from Illinois. You’ll need to click on the picture below to see the press release from 10/14:

Yet another example comes from the CCHR (Citizens Commission on Human Rights, St. Louis, MO) back in 2013, “As a result of psychiatric and psychological intervention in schools, harmful behaviorist programs and psychotropic (mind-altering) drugs now decimate our schools. These programs have trampled on the rights and roles of parents and have provided society with rising crime, drug abuse and suicide rates. Contact your local, state and federal representatives and let them know what you think about turning our schools into mental health clinics and turning our children into mental health patients.” The group encourages you to check out their pdf about the dangers of schools being turned into mental health clinics. (see: http://www.cchrstl.org/education.shtml#) Here’s just a small quote from the introduction to the PDF, “According to educators, academic, knowledge–based curricula has been jettisoned in favor of psychology that places the emotions and belief systems above educational outcomes.”

While you’re at the Dept of Ed website, type in the full name of AWARE (advancing wellness and resilience in education in their search bar and just look at the descriptors you get in the results). You’ll see the goal is more about transforming what a school offers, what it does than how well it educates.
