Is There A Code For Alignment?

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, I know many of you will be getting ready for celebrating Thanksgiving, as I will be. However, before we all eat too much, I wanted to leave you with some things to ponder.

Warriors, as we’ve seen time and time again from the CCSS Machine and its educratic overreaches that modern education is not about the academics, or even the true critical thinking; it’s about confining a student’s life to a predisposed track based on a workforce skills assessment. So imagine my non-surprise when I received an e-mail from the NC DPI (Dept. of Public Instruction)

Warriors, you really should see the rest of the education related compromises. While this IS a NC Legislative Budget supposedly for public education, it crosses the lines into private education and home education by using STEM, CTE, College and Career Promise, and more. In the academic year 2018-19, funds for the Coding Grant Program will double to $800,000.00.

What if you don’t live in NC? Well, Warriors, as we’ve learned from experience, when it’s connected to the CCSS Machine, it will be in ALL the States, Territories, and military bases contained within American power.

Warriors, what you see above is from the NC DPI’s document about the nuts and bolts behind the Coding Grant Program. Also in this document is that fact the entire Program gets off the ground in the Spring of 2018. The ‘winning schools’ will be judged on a 100 point scale as to how aligned their coding programs/partnerships are. Below, is just a portion of the judging (grading):

Warriors, this, of course brings about several questions.
1) What federal funds will these private coding partners receive, if any?
2) What State tax breaks will these coding partners receive?
3) What about any un-funded portions of the coding programs in schools. Will the taxpayers be expected to pick up the tab?
4) What happens if any of these schools are graded as failing?
5) What about the private schools and homeschool students utilizing NC DPI’s Virtual Public School or are involved in any early college/career programs?

4) When I searched for ‘National Coding Grants’, the National Endowment of the Humanities surfaced. They sold out to the CCSS Machine long ago. Since the NEH receives federal funding, think about this: coding means technology, innovation, and, computers. Which translates to data. Data needs to be collected and studied. We also know how data collection has turned into a massive nightmare for our freedoms and privacy. We also know that the federal government is making bold steps (no matter how illegally based they are) to create MORE data mining. All this data will need deciphers. How awful it is that our students education will train them for such ill purposes. Sadly, the NEH is not alone when it comes to federally funded grants for coding or anything related.
5) When I searched for ‘STEM Coding Grants’, the first resource which popped up was the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s Office of Innovation and Improvement. Below is the screen shot of the interactive map for all the innovation (will include Race to the Top, and much more) from FY 2009 to FY 2017.

6) To access the “STEM 2026: A Vision” from the U.S. Dept. of Education, visit the highlighted phrase.
What you see is that coding is tied to Google, United Way, and more. You’ll see what student groups are being most targeted for coding.

That brings me to ponder something else. Since ESSA was supposedly going to break down education for equality, why is the federal government working with the CCSS Machine to discriminate against students using education as the weapon?

Warriors, we know Google is hardly the lone aligner in all this coding. We also know that all this coding is meant to confine citizens.

Find out what is going on in your schools, or if your school is in the living room, look at what extra curricular activities involve anything related to any of the coding, apprenticeships, etc.

Home for Me!

Warriors Against the Core, recently I’ve seen the news about Dr. King’s remarks on home education. I’m not surprised. By now, he’s had plenty of time to read how much ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) will harm it. I know I have!wormy

As Far as Dr. King’s Thoughts on Home Education….

First off, the news was publicized during his recent “Opportunity for All” Tour. I shared with you before he even left D.C. how this would be all encompassing as far as educational choices. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/09/08/kings-bandwagon-its-a-comin/

I’m not surprised at his arrogance. Why not? Because between the federal laws either all about education or those RELATED to education to the major groups in favor of King’s rule, home education has been a target the ENTIRE time. So when a major group supposedly protecting home schoolers across America feigns neutrality. That’s  a sell out, too.

Among King’s best backers is the NEA (National Education Association). NEA HATES homeschoolers! They have for years. NEA also was/is a huge supporter for the ESSA. It’s not hard to figure out that King’s ‘sudden’ concern about ‘Are the kids at home alright?’ Is hardly a move he’s making alone. It is, however, a huge warning.

CCSS/CTE impacts ALL educational choices, don’t be fooled!

ESSA has EVERY student in its sights, it’s been proven repeatedly. Especially from my blog. The SOLE reason I even began to fight this War Against the Core was due to the (then) evidence that national standards with global attitudes wasn’t a rumor for home educators and their students. This was back in 2009. Since then, what I’ve found has filled more space in my house than my family really likes.

From those very first articles until now, I have dedicated much time and research into ALL educational choices. However, home education represents our LAST true free education option. Evidence bears out that via WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), HEA (Higher Education Act), and ESSA, those options will be neutered. If your home education protection group says differently, they’ve not dug deep enough.

Congress Loves CTE

congresscteAnti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, it’s one thing that Congress is in its recess right now, but have you seen what they did just before leaving D.C.?  Look above. Both of these, HR5587 AND S3271 made their debut in July 2016.

If you have followed my research and writing for long, you know that one of my specialties is ‘Common Core’ after high school, regardless of where the PreK through High School is completed.

If you haven’t followed me long, then you haven’t seen how, in the fall of 2014, I exposed the Adult Common Core State Standards, or how, I exposed how the Career and Technical Education was changed to Career Tech Education. You haven’t seen where I tied Career Clusters, Career Pathways, The American Apprenticeship Initiative, STEM, and STEM to STEAM, back to Common Core. To keep the focus on what is current, I will not be sharing the links to each of these juggernauts. However, if you need the information, please, let me know.

 

The Purposed Legislative Scramble ( more background before we tackle the ‘latest’ news):

In one of my articles published not long after the ink was dry on ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), I told you the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) was embedded in ESSA about 65 times. WIOA is also linked to HEA (Higher Education Act) via the Carl Perkins funding.

WIOA also ties back to the American Apprenticeships and STEM (along with the STEM to STEAM). ESSA has STEM embedded too. Most citizens have been shocked when I share with them that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; the ‘a’ was added later and embedded the Arts in STEM to create STEAM) is NOT separate from CCSS (Common Core State Standards) but is in fact a product of the interaction between the PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) and the President USING CCSS as a detractor from what was really happening! Just as CCSS is no friend to education reform, the way STEM has been rolled out, is not a friend either. Why? The goal of STEM is not education, but a ‘workforce nation’. Does this sound familiar?!

Think of it this way:

Warriors, there has been NO mistake about the workforce shift. There has been no law related (in any way, shape, form, or fashion) to education without it. These have been  carefully plotted moves in the making for YEARS. As other researchers have also shown you, the movement is global, not exclusive to America.

So, it shouldn’t really be a surprise to find our Congress creating MORE legislation along the streamlined workforce path already in place.

What’s a Warrior to do?! Speak up to your Congress members. Especially if they are sponsoring either HR5587 or S3271. Spread the knowledge, many citizens in America are convinced that CCSS (and now ESSA) is ONLY K-12 and in traditional type schools. THIS IS A LIE, regardless who tells you!

ESSA has birth to first grade readiness, special needs alignment, dual and concurrent enrollment, AP or IB classes/courses, and every conceivable education choice ensnared. Either through the digital assessments (to take place inside and outside the home), funding (not just education funds, but health/human services, labor, commerce, etc.), FASFA forms, and/or wrap around services for entire communities.  ESSA is written to conform, not to free States.

 

HR 5587, Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act:

Here’s what we need to know as Warriors Against Fed Led Ed:
1) Being championed as a ‘bipartisan’ piece of great legislation, 5587, passed the Ed and Workforce (U.S. House of Representatives) by a vote of 37-0.
2) 5587 was introduced by Rep. Thompson of PA and Rep. Clark from MA.
3) Press release is dated July 2016, Congress is in recess until early September.
4) The purpose of 5587? “reauthorizes and reforms the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to help more Americans enter the workforce with the skills they need to compete for high-skilled, in-demand jobs.”
5) Be sure to read the other Representatives who are featured in the Press Release. Take note of Rep. Kline’s. He was a huge backer of ESSA before it was called ESSA. Speaking of such, remember when you step into the voting booths in November that the House of Representative’s education bill (HR5) went on to become key in ESSA’s language. Also remember the voting record of HR5..it had not a single “No” vote.
6) You will also see several bullet points about the great flexibility States will have to streamline work and education (there is even a shameless plug for how it will help taxpayers). As we have proven with ESSA, State and local flexibility is not true.
7) 5587 is 88 pages long. It takes effect 7/1/17. Subtle shifts in language (just as in ESSA) pack a powerful punch. How so? See for yourselves, “(A) by striking ‘‘academic and career and  technical skills’’ and inserting ‘‘academic knowledge and technical and employability skills’’; (B) by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’  after ‘‘technical education programs’’;  (2) in paragraph (3), by striking ‘‘, including  tech prep education’’;  (3) in paragraph (4), by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’ after ‘‘technical education programs’’; and  5  (4) in paragraph (6), by inserting ‘‘or programs’’ after ‘‘education schools’’ ”
8) You’ll also see other big shifts in the language, like ‘in demand’ occupations, regionally based education, competency based education, etc.

S3271, Workforce Advance Act:

The Press Release from Sen. Bennet (CO)‘s website: https://www.bennet.senate.gov/?p=release&id=3742
Again, bipartisanship is being heralded.
Again, ‘more choice’ in learning (a very false positive statement). See how Sen. Bennet’s website stated it, give more high school students the opportunity to take career and technical education college courses that can help prepare them for success in the 21st century. The Workforce Advance Act will help strengthen and expand dual and concurrent enrollment and early college high school options as part of Perkins-supported career technical education (CTE) programs. Strong CTE programs can provide vital access to the knowledge and skills needed for job and career success.”

But that’s not all S3271 will do. Check out what teachers have to look forward to, “The bill would allow schools to use a portion of the funding they receive through the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act for tuition and fees for CTE college courses. It would also allow school districts to use funding to support teachers pursuing the credentials needed to teach these courses in their high schools, helping to remove a barrier to providing access to college credit. Finally, the bill would allow the Department of Education to use national CTE activities to help identify successful methods and best practices for providing dual or concurrent enrollment programs and early college high school career and technical education opportunities.”

Warriors, ‘region specific education’ is already written into ESSA. Teachers being trained to teach post-secondary readiness (for college and career) is already written into ESSA! ‘National activities’ and CTE activities’ are also already written into ESSA!

Other tentacles of WIOA, HEA, STEM, and ESSA in S3271:
1) apprenticeships
2) public-private partnerships, especially in businesses
3) data mining and sharing of data between U.S. Dept. of Ed, U.S. Dept. of Labor, U.S. Commerce Dept., and all of these at the State levels, too.
4) more use of students as ‘lab rats’ for ‘evidence based research’.
5) how those in rural areas will be encompassed
6) special needs tracks for CTE will also increase

Presently, the U.S. Senate’s HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee has S3271. This is also the same group headed by Sen. Lamar Alexander. HELP is also charged with checking up on how ESSA is progressing.

Where did the backbone for S3271 come from? According to the Senate’s supporting documents for S3271, the State Directors for CTE  and the Assoc. for CTE created a document of principles for S3271. See: Senate Principles Crosswalk_FINAL

What you see below is the evidence to verify what my research has already shown,
1) that WIOA is, in fact embedded in ESSA.
2) that school counselors (per a White House led Initiative) are to influence students
(related will be the counselors at the one-stop-job/career-centers where non traditional students and those seeking a job will be influenced)
3) that ANY school receiving Perkins funding will be impacted (this includes the proprietary (for profit) schools and virtual schools.

School Board Special, Part Three

This group claims ‘they don’t take sides’ in education. The states pay to belong to this group. They also span P-20 education.

Today’s “From the Files” Tuesday, brings us to Part Three in my special candidate special series devoted to arming these brave citizens with as much ANTI Common Core/College and Career Readiness/Career Tech Education as possible!

So far, Parts One (focused on the birth to 5 year old alignment to CCSS (Common Core State Standards) via the ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act) and Two (focused on the K-12th grades in their alignment to CCSS via the ESSA), have been a huge success in arming those facing primaries in the next few months. This series is also a great tool for any citizen concerned about the overreach of the CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative) into our educational system! This article is jam packed and a bit lengthy, but we MUST know what our nation is facing via this ‘great educational bill’.

In this article, the focus will be on my specialized area of research: Common Core/Career Tech Ed in POST-Secondary education. You know, one of the areas CCSS was supposedly never to be found?!

For the sake of consistency, I will use my phrase ‘CCSS Machine’ in the rest of the article to point to the Initiative behind Common Core, the agenda surrounding it, the public private partnership (P3s) side, the resources, the Standards themselves, and anything else connected to the illegally based education reform. ESSA, will stand for itself.

Before we see where the post-secondary alignment is, I offer a couple of points:
1) The ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is a law which is to impact K-12th grades ONLY.
Yet, in the law, (as I have pointed out in the previous 2 articles), we have found younger than Kindergarten (K), and, today, we will see older (aka: post-secondary students) than 12th grade involved.
2) Where the ESSA has now become law, don’t think the CCSS Machine is going to leave post-secondary education alone. In the picture above, note the use of “P-20”, also note the headline. You should see a definite warning! Higher Education (another name for post-secondary education) is the LAST link in the streamlined chain of education which HAS not been rubber-stamped by Congress to embed the CCSS into it.
The strings of the CCSS Machine are already in place in post-secondary education, they just have not been re-authorized. Think about it, since 1965, almost in tandem, the re-authorizations of the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education laws have occurred. I am almost certain that in 2016, we will be seeing the HEA (Higher Education Act) come up for re-authorization, too! You can bet the farm, all sorts of alignment will be embedded. The ESSA and Students in Higher Education:

In the picture above, this is an example of how our high school graduates (or for that matter, any citizen seeking higher education) are being described… a ‘return on investment’. (*Note: In yesterday’s article you saw 2 equally demeaning visual pictures of how our students are defined by the CCSS Machine.) According to the CCSS Machine, we are all just ‘human capital’, so it is no wonder the shift in how students are taught is happening right before our eyes!

From the ESSA Final Conference Report, I have previously shared with you that the phrase “Higher Education” is embedded 64 times, that “Career” is used 63 times, that “Workforce” is written in 33 times. Sprinkled throughout the ESSA, each of these will repeatedly tie back to not only Common Core, but to Career Pathways and its counter part, Career Tech Education to Apprenticeships; to STEM; and to the most damming of all: the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). Why is the WIOA damming? In its language, Career Tech Education and Career Pathways are embedded a total of 21 times! STEM is also embedded to help create a STEM Workforce.

 As a candidate, you need to know that in plain talk, this means that not only will your traditionally educated public schools students be aligned to a workforce based education, but so will your private school students, your homeschooled students, your faith-based educated students, and ANYONE seeking a job! The difference (at least right now) is that those outside of public education will be aligned when they either 1) enter post-secondary education , or 2) seek employment! (*Note: I have published articles on all of the above, which I will be more than happy to provide you upon request.)

Here is even more you need to know as a candidate. I urge you to read the pages below for yourselves as what I have provided is a contextual paraphrase:
1) P. 33 deals with LEAs (Local Education Agencies) and state financial awards. Not only will you as a candidate need to see what percentages of the funding goes for a) the parents, 1b) the student services, and c) the students courses (including AP, IB, CTE), but you will need to read how all of these are to be aligned to the CSAS (Challenging State Academic Standards) by way of the ‘industry recognized credentialing system’ set forth by the WIOA of 2014!
2) P. 48 of the ESSA Final Conference Report states that the CSAS and post-secondary education must be aligned for a more streamlined education.
3) P. 50, special needs students who have benefited from IDEA funding/programs and seek higher education ‘on track with alternative aligned courses/assessments’.
4) P. 85, States are to measure and report students ‘post secondary readiness’.
5) P. 121, Those students in dual enrolled courses (AP, IB, early college, etc.) will be ensnared here. As a candidate, consider this is an area for your privately educated (including faith-based and homeschool students) to be aligned. (Also on P. 991)
5a) P. 123, the data mining of these privately educated students comes into play.
6) P. 137, the LEAs determine how students transition from one grade group to the next (including post-secondary) with the help of P3s and ‘other stakeholders in education’.
7) P. 255, technology and digital post secondary education.
8) P. 265, students taking credit bearing career tech (CTE) courses for a shift to post secondary education.
8a) P. 273, again CTE courses, credit bearing, and students
9) P. 323, how all school leaders, including teachers will be trained to teach students for post secondary education, especially dual enrolled, concurrent enrolled, and early college students. (also on P. 780, 81)
10) P. 344, how teachers are to prepare post secondary/workforce ready students.
11) P. 325, how all the post secondary course from above will be regionally specific only.
12) P.397, how eligibility of funds will be tied to post secondary graduation rates.
13) P. 427, how post secondary readiness and the English Language Learners (ELLs) will be joined.
13a) P. 459, ELLs in more detail; Page 460 will discuss their assessments.
In those Activities which support a student’s learning and success (Sec. 4107):
14) P. 474, Post Secondary career awareness and exploration activities, including FASFA (student financial aid forms) (*Added note: where in some states this is now a requirement to graduate whether you intend to go to college or not!)
15) P. 502, OBE (Outcome Based Education– a supposed improvement in education at all levels, but especially higher education) will be the preferred tool for aligning academics and accompanying evaluations.
16) P. 508, Data mining will need to be aligned to any CSAS implemented by the States.
17) P. 509, as part of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.
18) P. 601, where entire families are tied into the post secondary success of a student. (Also on P. 609)
19) P. 610 and 611, At-risk youth are encompassed in the alignment here.
20) P. 663, begins the Native American students and their alignment. (*Note: be sure to read this entire section to see how these alignment plans are laid out.)
21) Pages 759-66 deal with the Military bases needing to be realigned. (For any candidate who has the military nearby, page special attention!) Added note: the U.S. Dept. of Defense is in full support of CCSS, CTE.

Closing:

Candidates, do you see the pattern above? Do you see any educational choice exempt from the CCSS Machine alignment?! Is there more in the ESSA which directly relates to post-secondary education? YES!

Since very few Congress members read the entire over 1,000 page bill BEFORE it became law, we are only now beginning to uncover all the hooks baited and ready for our nation.
As a candidate, do your part of due diligence and use this information to stand in the gap!

Warriors Against the Core, We know there are all kinds of great ways to teach and to learn. Common Core has ruined this in SO many ways. With the push for digital this, digital that, on-line courses, and all the other resources available via the computer it can be SO confusing to know which are CCSS aligned and which are not. While the question I’ve posed to you in the title is rhetorical, we still should see what are some of the latest offerings out there. Why? To help steer clear of them, to inform others who might need to know, and to see what pro CCSS organizations are behind them.

 

English Language Learners:

As an avid education researcher, I get all kinds of notices about educational products which are new. One such recent announcement was a way to help those learning the English language with a new ” innovative digital ELL curriculum designed to help close the achievement gap.” The goal? Improved student outcomes. According to the sales pitch the product was to ‘boost performances’ of those ELL students. Shameful..we boost the performance of our cars. In my researched opinion (and personal experience as an educator) we shouldn’t be teaching to ‘boost performance’ of our students. We should be seeing educational resources which ‘encourage and help our students to LEARN’ not to ‘perform’! The on-line lessons are provided by Middlebury Interactive Languages. However, MIL worked in tandem with ‘We Are Teachers’.  MiL (Middlebury Interactive Languages has courses for K-12 students in all school choices, including homeschooling). If you’re curious about the CCSS Machine’s propaganda, don’t be, it is there plain as day. Here is an excerpt from the website, “Middlebury Interactive Languages is the academic leader in digital language learning for K-12 students. We provide access to superior world language and English Language Learner curriculum solutions that prepare students with the skills and cultural understanding to compete in the 21st Century global marketplace.” So, what company or organization is behind MIL? Middlebury College! What is also interesting is that most of the board managers have had some tie (at one time or another with K12, Inc. K12, Inc. has ties to CCSS, as well.) We can come back to them in a minute or two. If you look at MIL’s education partners, you will see quite a few members of the CCSS Machine. We Are Teachers, (WAT) This group has a ton of resources available for anyone who is on the internet. When I found it I could get anything from lessons, to free printables, and free recipes. When I looked closer, I saw I could get all the STEM stuff I wanted, as well as PD, Professional Development. As you know, my research has proven just how twisted the ties between STEM and CCSS are. But back to the website, it seemed everything was easy to find EXCEPT who runs WAT. We Are Teachers is a LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) based in TX. It appears that all kinds of educational information is available for anyone on-line. See their terms of use policies, http://www.weareteachers.com/homepage/terms-of-use
The concern is, with this type of information sharing can have you come face to face with CCSS, STEM, or who knows what else? The screen shot below is from the WAT ‘Assessment’ section of the website.

Closing:

My fellow warriors, what do you think about all this? An on-line educational company so bad they were at once run out of a state, only to at a later day, be allowed?! Educational services based out of a college that has been around for years, which not only offers its CCSS aligned materials to public students, but extends them to those who are homeschooled?! A LLC where teachers are encouraged to share, but has a nebulous side to it?! Not to mention STEM?! Why, oh why, must everything  connected to education seem to always come back to the CCSS Machine?! I am so beyond mad over the fact that the CCSS Machine has slicked up its offerings to include any student or teacher in or outside of the traditional public schools!

What is a take-away from this article which I most hope you will share with others? If you must choose on-line for all your student’s needs, SNOOP! Be nosy, ask questions about what group created the educational content. Has the curricula been vetted properly? Bottom line: if something does not appear to be trustworthy, walk away! If it sounds too good, check it out anyway! We say in the anti CC warrior conversations that ‘we will not conform’. If we really mean those words, we MUST investigate everything! When we find ANYTHING connected to the agenda of the CCSS Machine, we MUST expose it! Warriors, let’s learn a valuable lesson from our proCCSS fellows about what NOT to do when it comes to education.

It can best be summed up in an old saying.  ‘Ride the fence too long, you find splinters in your bottom’.

FTF: Visual Special for the Anti CCSS Machine Warriors!

Greetings my fellow Warriors against the CCSS Machine. By now you know I am 100% opposed to the Common Core, the Career Technical Education arm of the Common Core, the College and Career Readiness arm of the Common Core, and every OTHER connected entity of the CCSS Machine.  Today’s “From the File” Tuesday article is a special visual edition. Why? Congress is back in session..which means votes could come ANYTIME between now and the next break (or, votes could come after the first of the year). Regardless of WHEN the votes happen, the fact is that BOTH the HR5 and the S1177 will be among those bills voted upon!

Since our time is NOW to let our voices be heard, we must use EVERY available means possible. Call the legislators who represent you. Write the legislators who speak for you. Use social media as a tool to send a visual message that speaks to your legislators! Below are suggestions of appropriate visuals you can use (complete with captions). Use what you choose, customize the captions or create memes from them, I really don’t care..just use them to send a message your legislator won’t soon forget about HOW important it is to KILL the HR5 and theS1177!

Regardless of where your student’s K-12 years were spent, with the enacted HR5, S1177, and the upcoming re-authorized HEA (Higher Education Act), ALL students will enter the TSP  (Talent Supply Pipeline).

Monday Musings: Is There a Better Way?

Anti CCSS Warriors, we’ve made progress in the battle for wiping out CCSS, we’re on the move to now include the adult version, CTE. After going on another ‘undercover’ research trip into the ‘world of education’ this weekend, I came away with a few muse worthy findings. These, of course, lead to questions we Warriors need to consider in this extremely important ‘War Against the Core’!

What I Discovered:

1) A definite shift in what is being highlighted at educational conventions, conferences from academics to services.
2) A distinct ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ aura. I saw this in action with one educational service where the parents, teachers, and students were drawn in like flies. The service is 100% aligned to CCSS, CTE, yet THAT fact was no where in sight. What was? Colorful prizes, discounts for signing up right away, and how much smarter your child would be by learning to read with a computer leading the way.
3) Since I’ve attended many, many educational conventions, conferences, symposiums, curriculum fairs, and the like, I know where the focus has been and is now shifting. I’ve been able to meet and interact with educators of ALL types, in all the different choices out there. Of all the folks I met with on this particular journey, less than 1 dozen noticed what I did…that educating our students in academics is being changed right before our eyes.
4) Laws in different states are also being updated to reflect the need for more accrediting from those schools which have, up to now, been just fine in graduating students. An example? Changing the scholarship requirements from ‘open to all graduating seniors’ to ‘open to graduating seniors with an accredited diploma’. For some schools, like homeschools, this will continue to be a warning sign of more control, more alignment to the ‘more traditional system’.

 

What’s The Solution?

In a recent conversation with a education professor who’s also an author and holds a doctoral degree, we were sharing how it’s been great to have so much information point to what’s wrong about Common Core and it’s ‘cousin’, Career and Technical Education, but who’s got a solution to offer as an alternative? This is a great question for us to not only ponder, but to get busy on. Our legislators are being bamboozled by the giant CCSS Machine, the Business RoundTable, the Chambers of Commerce on the “Who, When, Where, Why, and How” of CCSS/CTE. Very few of these elected men and women have seen the light that we, the anti CCSS Warriors have.

I’ve shared with you, as have others opposed to the CCSS Machine, there has been a credible solution offered by a dedicated group of NC citizens for the K-12 educational system. The “NC Plan” has been publicized nation wide as a worthy, CCSS free framework.
Freedom Project Education has purposed itself to be 100% CCSS free in its K-12 virtual school. However, as the professor and I were sharing in our conversation, we MUST have an alternative for the Post-Secondary CCSS/CTE overhaul. If we don’t all the K-12 CCSS free moves will be absolutely negated. The assessments, the data mining, and other K-12 CCSS tools are also in post-secondary education. We’d like to see those go away, too.

The CCSS Machine will be 100% successful in claiming all the post-secondary students it possibly can IF we, the anti CCSS Warriors, do not focus on this huge, yet under-discussed issue. Remember, post-secondary education encompasses EVERY citizen in this nation, who chooses to return to the classroom. EVERY taxpayer’s hard earned dollar is going to help fund (as it already has been doing) the CCSS/CTE alignment.

There are others out there just as purposed to freeing the post-secondary educational world of CCSS/CTE. There are a few institutions NOT CCSS/CTE aligned. However, with the rewriting of the ESEA of 1965 (Elementary and Secondary Education Act), the recent passages of BOTH the HR5 and S1177 (Student Success Act/Every Child Achieves Act, respectively), AND the up-coming bills for “College Promise” Act, updated “Higher Education” Act, any school receiving any type of federal education (and in most cases state education) dollars, will have NO choice in remaining free of the CCSS/CTE agenda. In short, all of the above cement the bridge between K-12 and post-secondary education.

We know, now, how the post-secondary educational world has been helpful in creating and continuing Common Core. We know, now, how post-secondary institutions are being turned into a grooming parlor for more CCSS/CTE drones. (examples of this can be found in my older articles about the colleges where education majors are being taught to teach only CCSS/CTE)

We know, without the shadow of a doubt our time to have a CCSS/CTE free America is short.

I urge you to contact Sen. Mike Lee, who is seeking folks like us to address the post-secondary educational dilemma.  His current higher education proposal(known as the HERO Act) is a start. While, from the summary, reads like another way to streamline education, it’s an avenue for feedback, we’ve not had before. By us providing people of influence with the credible facts and research we have about the CCSS Machine in post-secondary education, I think we can make a big difference. I’ve reached out to the Senator. I hope you, as my comrades, will do the same.

While all our heads were turned toward D.C. this past week, our states kept rolling on in their CCSS/CTE ways. The ‘riddle’ today (since it is “Riddle Me This” Sunday) is “What did NC get while while ESEA re-vamping was happening in Washington, D.C.?” In short, the answer is ‘CCSS/CTE Overload’! As always, if it’s going on in one state, it’s going on in the rest of them.

NC DPI’s Announcement:

First, on 7/9/15, how NC’s proficiency rate is one of the best in the USA. Here’s an excerpt from Dr. Atkinson, NC’s State Education Superintendent (AND the president of the Chief Council of State School Officers; 1/2 owner of the CCSS copyright), ““North Carolina has set high expectations for our students,” said State Superintendent June Atkinson. “We know that today’s competitive economy requires more in order for our students to be well-prepared for success. The challenge before us is to ensure that our schools are equipped and staffed to help students reach these goals.””

As we’ve noticed in all things CCSS related, the timing is precise. While one CCSS related activity is going on, others to support it are either in the works or just appearing. Case in point, NC’s ‘new’ Academic and Digital Learning upgrade. An avid reader of my blog and fellow anti CC warrior sent me a tip and requested I look into this. So, How “Recent” is Recent, NC DPI?

In trying to access the rest of the July 2015 news items from NC DPI, I stumbled upon a January 2015 newsletter where some of the ground work for this appears to have been announced. What do I mean? Here’s a ‘sample’,

Coming in July 2015!  Logging into Home Base with the IAM Service The IAM Service will be replacing the “PowerSchool Login” after the 2014/­2015 End­ of­ Year processing, July 6. With this change, all North Carolina K­12 students and employees will login to Home Base applications using their NCEdCloud username and password. The accounts are currently available and LEAs and Charter Schools can begin providing students and employees their accounts at any time. Employees can follow the “Claim Account” process described in For Teachers and Staff on the NCEdCloud IAM Website (ncedcloud.mcnc.org). Students’ accounts will be issued by their teachers, who have access to their students’ usernames and initial passwords. Parents will continue to use the PowerSchool Parent Portal for access to their student’s information. Identity and Access Management (IAM) is one of the NCEdCloud initiatives for the K­12 community of North Carolina and provides LEAs and Charter Schools a tool to help manage the authentication and authorization needs of students, employees and guests (and eventually parents) in accessing cloud­based resources. It provides self­ service capabilities to all end users, and delegated administrator capabilities to LEA and Charter School technology leadership. The actual service is being provided by Identity Automation and the IAM infrastructure is hosted in Amazon’s AWS, a robust environment providing expandable capacity as well as increased stability. “

On the website’s main page, you’ll read this ‘lovely’ information, “This area of the agency encompasses Standards, Curriculum and Instruction, Digital Teaching and Learning, Career and Technical Education, Exceptional Children and the NC Virtual Public School. Area functions address all State Board goals but focus primarily on preparing students beyond graduation for work, further education and citizenship” Among the major tools to cause the preparation> NC’s Standard Course of Study (code name for CCSS) and Home Base (data mining). If you’ve followed my blog very long, you know I’ve provided scores of facts, documents, and other related information into NC’s total CCSS Machine alignment. My warriors, NC is far from the lone participant in this, as you can well attest to. I know it’s in every one of our states of residence. It has to be. The workforce/economy components of the reshaping of America are to encompass ALL 50 states, territories, and military posts.

RMT: National Humanity, Common Core Style

Could it be possible to have an independent federal agency for humanities align us all via Common Core? That’s the riddle for today, April 12, 2015.

NEH, National Endowment for the Humanities:

Before we get into what NEH does or who is involved, let’s assume you aren’t familiar with ‘humanities’. According the Act of 1965 which gave us a federal level organization, here’s the definition the NEH uses:
“The term ‘humanities’ includes, but is not limited to, the study and interpretation of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.”

So, if it’s an independent federal agency, where does the funding come from? The screen shot below is the NEH’s budget from 2015.

NEH activities don’t just impact K-12 education, their work goes on to post-secondary educational institutions, to communities. Due to the Act that gave us the NEH, the mandate requires all this interaction with we, the people of the U.S. Many partners, both public AND private partner with the NEH to ensure teachers, leaders have educational resources to promote all that humanities encompasses. So, knowing what we know about P3 involvement in education AND the federal overreach into education, what could possibly point me to the ‘Common Core-ness’ of the NEH? Is it, in fact there? If so, where? Let’s see if we can find out.

Clue #1: The economy merits a mention even in culture. Why if we aren’t cultured properly, we won’t have a proper economy. (see page 2 of the NEH’s proposed 2016 budget request submitted 02/15)

Clue #2: The vast impact in numbers: “The nation’s 4,500 institutions of higher learning employ approximately 125,000 humanities faculty who teach millions of students. More than 3 million teachers dedicate their lives to teaching humanities subjects to tens of millions of school children who attend the more than 128,000 K-12 schools across the country. In addition, the nation’s 17,500 museums and historical societies, which greet 2.4 million visitors daily, and the state humanities councils, which annually reach millions of citizens of all ages, help form the cultural backbone of cities and towns across the country. Collectively, these institutions, and the people they employ, buttress our democracy, strengthen communities, and represent a significant part of the American economy.” (from page 2 as well)

Clue #3: Presidential nominated (means hand picked for a reason) and Congress approved leader requested over $5 million dollars for the “Common Good” Initiative. From page 3: “… enabling legislation to demonstrate “the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.” To bolster this essential component of NEH’s work, the Endowment has launched a major new initiative, The Common Good: The Humanities in the Public Square. The initiative will be an agency-wide effort designed to demonstrate the critical role the humanities can play in our nation’s public life. NEH requests $5.5 million in support of The Common Good in FY 2016.”

Clue #4: The Common Good initiative continues the rubric set forth from a previous one titled “Standing Together”. Pages 3 and 4 lay out how much the community will be involved in both of these initiatives. Be sure to look further into exactly what the ST and CG initiatives will do (near pages 11 and following) in regards to current public attitudes, policies, and issues. Pages 14 and 15 spell out some of the main agenda points.
You’ll want to note how proud the NEH is of the contribution from the Mellon Foundation. What the budget request won’t tell you about the Mellons, is they are in on the educational list of interlopers. Clue #5: “Lifetime learning”, “strengthen teaching”, and “strong networks within states”, all on page 5.

Clue #6: Encouraging more P3 involvement in educational endeavors to enhance the ‘Common Good’ program. Clue #7: Found on page 7, Verizon’s union with the NEH. Verizon is an unabashedly proud supporter of CCSS. “EDSITEment” is Verzion’s CCSS laden offering to NEH and to we, the people. You can search the internet for more articles, but here are my three, (https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/?s=Verizon) Here’s an excerpt from page 7 in NEH’s own words, “The website, EDSITEment, now contains over 500 scholar- and teacher-developed lesson plans for the K-12 classroom and links to more than 400 peer-reviewed sites selected for their high quality humanities content and interactive design. More than 3 million visitors—teachers, students, and parents—avail themselves of EDSITEment’s rich resources each year.”

Clue #8: Dangling grant money in front of communities and towns. Sound familiar? See page 15 for the two types of grants we get to compete for.

Clue #9″ The use of the word ‘common’ in relationship to the USA’s heritage. While that in and of itself may or may not be bad to you, it’s something to keep an eye on in HOW this is taught. We’ve already seen what the CCSS Machine has done to history. Oh, and one of the ways to accomplish a ‘common heritage’? Placing resources in libraries and other public locations. If you’ve not already noticed how ‘cleaned out’ your local library is, then you may want to know WHY it has recently gone through such a culling of resources. See:

This isn’t the last national grasp at our nation by the CCSS Machine, folks. We’ve answered the riddle for today. Now we must contact local elected officials who aren’t afraid to stand up for our country! If we can have a movement to defund the College Board, why can’t we defund other national organizations using CC as a weapon of mass indoctrination?! We, the people, must continue to raise awareness of ALL the places CCSS, CCR, CTE, and all the other creations of Common Core are lurking in plain sight.
