Teamwork Agenda: Marketing Lies

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, I know that we have heard SO many educratic lies about schools in America, we could scream.

Wednesday night (9/6/17) I was the honored guest on Women on the Wall’s weekly anti CCSS Machine call. To say it was an easy topic, would be a lie. It wasn’t, in fact, I stumbled through quite a bit. Not because I wasn’t prepared, I was so upset about what is happening!

What was the topic? The upcoming broadcast of the EIF/Project XQ’s “Super School Live”. It’s set for 9/8/17 and is to be aired on ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. I urge you to listen to the archived version (above). You’ll need to have a pen and paper (or whatever you use to take notes) handy.

If you don’t have time to listen to the archive, let me state as concisely as I can that the ‘teamwork agenda’ surrounding the broadcast is marketing lies to justify making over American education, especially at the high school level. (*Note: the announcement for the Call had the archived links to my researched published articles you may wish to access for the evidence showing the lies and deception.)

This effort is NOT new. It’s NOT USA born or created, either. It’s sick and it’s twisted. The ‘teamwork agenda’ in spreading the marketing lies about education is set to one goal: weak-minded citizens trained for boosting the economy. If you do not know “The ATTN:” social media site, it’s a site where anything from the headlines is used to catch your eye. According to their website, ‘compelling issue-driven content’. In other words: a marketing strategy used to inflate issues.

1) Rowe is a long-time CTE advocate.
2) Two of his tweets about CTE are seen on the right hand side of the article. One even plays up “Make America Great Again”.
3) Rowe testified in 2011 and 2014. The purpose? A marketing makeover for CTE.
4) The 74 is a pro CCSS Machine member organization, so their spin on Rowe’s activity for CTE. Of course, here, on my blog, you’ll find there is no spin, only the researched facts behind the marketing lies.

NC’s Spin for Teamwork Agenda:

Warriors, earlier in this article, I said we’d revisit the ACTE. Why? One of the latest headlines is about the wonderful news of NC’s CTE unifying with this national organization.

If that doesn’t mean much, consider the screen shot (near the beginning of this article) from NASCAR Technical Institute promoting Mike Rowe. NASCAR Tech is in NC! (It’s a branch school of the AZ based corporation.)

In NC, CTE offices are housed in the NC DPI (North Carolina Dept. of Public Instruction) for K-12th grades. In post-secondary education, the NC Board of Governors oversees it. Factor in the NC Dept. of Labor, as well.

Warriors, remember, because of the unifying forces behind the U.S. Dept. of Education and the U.S. Dept. of Labor, we have data tracking expressly FOR aligning careers to academics!

Let’s also consider that CTE is embedded in job seeking assessments used by those one-stop career centers or job application sites as part of your State government. You’ll find CTE in those skill based apprenticeships, too.

Warriors, I want to show you one more way the marketing hype has been used against us.

Here in my town, we’re seeing a 2014 bond (was placed on the ballot for citizens to vote on) come to fruition in the form of a ‘renovated’ city high school.

The money poured into the ad campaign for the renovation was plenty. The write-ups in the local news sources were also quite numerous. The bumper stickers and T-shirts all encouraged folks to vote ‘yes’ for the Bond, because if you didn’t, you somehow were being non-supportive and a terrible person.
As part of the Bond package, new spaces for CTE were planned on. Guess what? They’ve been built. There’s even a Career Bridge Council to help utilize the teamwork agenda built on education lies.

Warriors, we MUST continue to expose these team driven marketing lies about education! To do any less is simply unacceptable!

Is There Anything Else?

Years ago, I remember hearing Robin Williams rattle off a routine about the future of his (then very young) children. In a mere matter of seconds he vacillated between their college graduation, great success, OR as a worker at the burger joint down the street, saying “You want fries with that?”.

As we know, all parents have big hopes and dreams that regardless of WHERE our children become a success, as long as it is THEIR success. Success SHOULD NOT mean it’s only applicable when you graduate college and get the big fancy house with the fat paycheck. Successful people throughout history have often been dirt poor or middle income.

The CCSS Machine is stopping at NOTHING to ensure our children have almost NO success whatsoever…except what the Machine is willing to dole out to them.
After this past week’s digging into the agenda moves behind the “I Just Sued the School System” and “The Thinning” (believe me, I am not done with either yet, but more on that in a day or so.), I have about had my fill of the depths of deception the CCSS Machine is going to make ‘blastedly’ sure NO child (regardless of age) will succeed at his or her own pace.

Before we proceed, I am stating for the record, my ‘axe to grind’ is not with Civil Rights. As always, it is the CCSS Machine. What I want to know, as do you, how involved is the CCSS Machine in a program like this?

We all know tutors are great! Many successful people have had tutors in their lives. However, with the age of this program, the amount of time our educational system has been reduced to what we have today, I wonder how much MORE damage to ALL involved when ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is fully and finally locked in.

Bits And Pieces Of  The MLWs Program:

So, how does the Math Literacy Program work? What math curriculum is used? Is this nation-wide? I will answer each, but not in order.

The curriculum is John Dewey and Lawrence Cremin based. I found this in the 2001 publication “Mathematics, Numeracy,  and Democracy: The Case for Quantitative Literacy”
I am pausing here because if I don’t say it, I will burst…America is NOT a democracy! UGH!! Moving on now, this paper was prepared by the National Council on Education and the Disciplines (NCED). NCED is a part of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. What you see below is from the opening pages of the over 140 page document.

The Board of Trustees include representatives of CCSS Machine member groups: Blackboard, GSV, Global Education Learning, The Hunt Institute, and Dream Box Learning. There are others you may be able to spot, too. Access: http://woodrow.org/about/board-of-trustees/

Since the Woodrow Wilson Foundation is dedicating itself to K-16 education, you know not only will ESSA be a factor in what they have influence with, but the HEA (Higher Education Act) and the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) will also be included. As far as the over 140 page document, be sure you look at the Table of Contents. I especially am pointing you to the section titled “Numerical Common Sense for All”, page 61.

You’ll also be interested in seeing the curriculum for MLW are NCs (Neighborhood Circles). The NCs are a product of the Lawrence CommunityWorks. The linked document MLW has is from 2007. Almost immediately, you will see that the best start to globalization begins in your neighborhood. You REALLY need to see/read this dated, but still used, plan. 0155_neighborcircles (*Note: back in 2010, Lawrence,MA did receive a Promise Neighborhood grant. See: http://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/us-department-education-awards-promise-neighborhoods-planning-grants) Promise Neighborhoods are now codified in ESSA.

You’ll also need to see how the NSF (National Science Foundation) is involved in the MLW curriculum. I especially despise the NSF for their access to huge government funds as well as their use of those funds to churn out as much CCSS/STEM rhetoric as humanly possible. If you are not sure how toxic the NSF involvement in education is, please, search for them among my archives. What they do and have access to is truly worth knowing. The last question, which we’ve not answered yet is, is all this national? Yes.
The Young People’s Project (YPP) is an outgrowth of the Algebra Project, “a national mathematics literacy effort aimed at helping low income students and students of color successfully acquire mathematical skills that are a prerequisite for a college preparatory mathematics sequence in high school and full citizenship in today’s technological society.”

From the Files Tuesday: Down in the Valley

Have you ever heard of GSV? I know the company’s heard of you. How? GSV stands for “Global Silicon Valley”. Just what does GSV have to do with education, especially Common Core Standards?! I’m glad you are curious!

GSV (Global Silicon Valley) Advisors:
This body of advisors helps education ‘entrepreneurs’  and growth companies connect. In fact, here’s an excerpt from their website:
“A key part of our mission is to reimagine what education is—with a bias toward innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and others who look at learning differently.” (source: http://gsvadvisors.com/company/) GSV Adivsors are also partners with Arizona State University . GSV Advisors are affiliated with ASCD (A Gates Foundation funded curriculum resource for educators), with Jeb Bush’s Foundation for Excellence in Education, among some other pro CC heavy hitters. The group is advocates for (you might want a drum roll sound, here) Teach for America, KIPP, Center for Education Reform among some other non-profits. In case you forgot or aren’t old enough to know this, Silicon Valley is home to Google, Cisco, Apple and others. In other words a mega hub of digital power. Hardly new to the education/corporate mix, GSV Advisors have been ‘at it’ about 20 years and helped create quite an impressive resume of holdings (among them & known CCS aligned; K-12, Inc., Leap Frog). See the long list & note the amount of money (http://gsvadvisors.com/experience/) A point the group likes to ‘brag about’, “focused on the Megatrends that are disrupting the $4 trillion global education market along with the innovators who are transforming the industry.” Well, at least we know with what brush they paint the educational landscape with. You can download a free copy of the PDF, but you must register to receive it. Simply visit the website and click on the screen with the white paper’s name as is scrolls by in the header. This report from July 2012 is certainly eye opening as to the motivation for education. In my opinion, it hardly appears it’s for the betterment of our students. You might especially enjoy their phrase, “Pre K to Gray”. Their executive summary includes an Education ROE, or ‘return on investment’. Not sure how you feel, but that’s hardly encouraging to the parents struggling with a student who has Common Core thrust upon them. From Pearson exec, CEO K12 Technology, Jonathan Harber, “In K-12, it is about achieving scale – scale is the most important reform. Anything that creates a real market rather than undermining it is the most transformative change that can be done.”  There are all kinds of other charts, graphs in the free report that are great for illustrating just how much money corporations have either sunk into education or see the potential to invest. Remember, this report is now a couple of years old. {from my researching background, this is a key piece of evidence in the fight against public, private partnerships in education}.

So, just how much data does GSV have on education?:

Global/USA market sizes (including testing & assessing, Global/USA literacy rates, PISA scores, the top global post secondary schools, the structure of public education in America, stats on private, charter, home schools in America, SAT data scores, post secondary stats, distance learning information & market for growth, for profit education industry leaders. Why all the figures? If you’re planning billions of dollars in return on your investment, you’d better have your facts, figures and forecasts to live by.

“Big, Hairy, Audacious  Goals”(BHAGs):

From the July 4, 2012 GSV Asset Management White Paper, “American Revolution 2.0”  {another gold mine of strategy & information worth downloading} I find the white paper quite disrespectful in nature, to not only our teachers and students, but to all Americans. When you view the resource, I’d be interested in your take on the overall impression you get. This paper lays out a 15 year battle plan to transform American education. Vernacular includes ‘battle plan, strategic partners, special op forces, etc.’. Topping the 15 year BHAG list?! Common Core Standards! Here’s a direct quote of how they wrote it, “To start, we adopt the Common Core in all 50 states and create incentives for innovators to develop disruptive, high-impact content. ”

Other goals include ditching certain current terminology in favor of phrases not so well known, universal preK, tax incentives, open scoring, more STEM, more Teach for America, revamp NCLB and make it work, computer coding would be mandatory and a considered a language, professors from other countries steeped in STEM given permanent residence in the USA, establish an education cheerleading squad lead by the US President and the media treating any international academic achievement as an Olympic-like competition, virtual credits earned wallets, open educational standards, eliminate local school boards, create an even more entrenched P3 system in school board’s place & create ‘education companies’, ditch the traditional school calendars. What can we do?:

1) Spread the knowledge to begin with. Look at every company involved in the ‘special ops forces’. Find out more about them.

2) Depending on where the companies are, begin contacting them & expressing your views about how this Common Core laden battle plan is not the solution.

3) If you have a company or a corporation near you which is a P3 and heavily invested in your schools, work together to rid your schools of their influence. P3s, are NOT interested in your students education. Their ROE (return on investment) is their #1 goal. P3s are not educators and have run the education system amuck with treating schools as business models.

4) Work with your elected or appointed school board members, local and state politicians. Do they know about this massive effort to reinvent American education? What are their views about this? How does this type of strategy mock the U.S. Constitution or the state level Constitution? FIGHT BACK! No, we don’t have billions of dollars to make, but we DO have STUDENTS worth SAVING!
