100, 500, and Still Counting

Celebrating my 100 anti CCSS/Fed Ed blog followers AND my 500th post! We’ve come quite a long way together. I pray our time together will continue to be fruitful. We seek not fame or fortune in what we do to fight the CCSS Machine. We ARE, however, leaving a legacy of patriotism, devotion to remaining free, and love for our people, regardless of educational choices. We do what we do to help each other, not to stand on each other’s shoulders. How absolutely refreshing it would be to see our leaders do the same.


There’s a double purpose to using numbers in this article. One of the best ways to get news out is social media. However, some sites are more oppressive than others. So, purpose #1 is to celebrate, purpose #2 is to hide the article in plain sight on social media.

I’m Not the Only One Spinning Numbers:

ICYMI: My latest article which was banned on Facebook revealed how numbers will be shifted to abuse teachers via ESSA and Title 2 Funds; how special needs and their IDEA funds via ESSA get squeezed; how numerous families across our nation will now be receiving “Family Engagement Ambassadors” aka U.S. Dept. of Ed Parent Nannies.

Then, there are the numbers CCSS Machine member/publisher McGraw-Hill are trying to spin in their most recent survey. I just found this one yesterday.


Oh, I cannot stop chuckling over how stupid this company assumes us to be by a quiz like this!


So, what questions does McGraw-Hill have? The brief introduction tells you they got together with top education research groups to create this. Can’t you just smell the CCSS Machine stench already? But wait, it gets deeper. Scroll down to the bottom of the main page and you’ll see it’s a survey to point to the 2016 elections!! I kid you not.

Oh, and you’ll find it ironic that I ‘flunked’ this survey from the “how many did you get correct” viewpoint. Oh well, flunking a CCSS Member group survey is not something I will fret over. I have understood via social media that more groups besides US PIE are doing something ‘radical’ for Ed’s 40th anniversary.  As long as we Warriors Against the Core are rebelling against educational tyranny on that day (or for that matter, every day), I think the message will become even louder. If we could unite our events, beyond  our usual circles of influence, we could teach Congress what true teamwork CAN do! As always, know that I am all for speaking out, just be safe and respectful.

Congress, 9/29/16; call! Protest the move to remove American internet and give it total global access. Knowing how much ESSA is spending on digital, Internet, and all related parts, we NEED our privacy as in tact as we can to protect our children.

Warriors, I’ll have more news about numbers and legislation soon. In the meantime, fight, fight, with all your might!  I leave you with a short clip from a TV show in the 1960s called “The Prisoner”. The show was one my Daddy loved. I hated it. I was so young, it scared me.

While I don’t know the entire plot, I do know the main character was not free to be himself. He was assigned a number; his name no longer necessary. Of all the things we give our children, their names are their very first gift upon their birth. Their names are beautifully hand-picked, lovingly chosen, and carry on our family identities. Much like “The Prisoner”, our children are in danger of losing who they truly are.

In a special edition of my “Fib-o-Meter” Friday, anti CCSS article, I’m taking a look at who’s hyping FOR the reauthorization of HR5 and who’s uncovering the truth behind HR5.


Short title: “Student Success Act”; the long title’s much to long to even bother with. Since I write from the perspective of OPPOSING Common Core and that most of my readers are also fighting to halt CCSS, I’m going to assume you’ve read up on the reasons WHY HR5 is not the Bill it’s pretending to be. However, in case you haven’t:

Supposedly it will give back to the states back local control of education  (“Total Fallacy”) The “Total Truth” is that the bill will continue to mandate what the states must do in education!

States currently receiving federal funding via ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) waivers will still be just as tied to federal overreach as we are now.

The law is being rewritten under our noses to force the CCSS agenda. That’s a “Total Truth” that needs to be shouted out! Remember, the “Total Truth” that CCSS violates the U.S. Constitution AND at least 3 federal U.S. laws YET Congress is crafting legislation that will continue this illegal activity!

alexanderNow, there are many others spreading fallacies as those revealing the truth. As I didn’t highlight every single truth warrior, I’m not going to highlight every single fallacy maker. Why? Because our energy needs to be focused on acting on the truth. How do we do that? Hold your Congress members accountable! Remind them YOU are their boss, not the special interests, the CCSS Machine. Laws cannot and should not be written to support an illegal agenda!

Chances are, as a studied warrior against CCSS, you know more than those voting on the legislation. Your voice matters! Our students matter! Our nation matters! This is NOT a time for silence. Don’t pass the warrior buck by saying “I’m too busy, but you’re doing such a great job, I’ll let you fight for me.”  

Tech Thursday: Cradle/Career Conference


How about a cradle to career conference? The CCSSO’s (Council of Chief State School Officers) partners of Knowledge Works and Strive Together are hosting one soon! Common Core is sure to be there!

The Conference:

Titled, “Exploring Communities Convening” and will be held in late March 2015. For the two days (tickets go for anywhere between $500-800 a piece)you’ll get up close look at why your community should align itself to the Cradle to Career Network. Where will this be held? The Communities:

In the picture below, you’ll be able to see the current network of aligned communities involved in this radical agenda for our nation. Why would I say radical? Their two guides you can receive in the mail (at least you could in 2014). One is titled “2020 Forecast: Creating the Future of Learning” (a joint publication with Knowledge Works and Institute for the Future) and “Knowledge Works Forecast 3.0: Recombinant Education, Regenerating the Learning Ecosystem”. (*Note: in my previously published article from above, you can get a more information about both publications.)

So, what do these communities align to? A collective community wide infrastructure. Here’s just one of the pillars, straight from their website:

  • Cradle to Career Vision & Scope –  A vision for improving education outcomes for students beginning at birth, continuing into and through secondary and into and through post-secondary schooling until they secure a meaningful career.

I’ve included the 2014 ForsythPromise Annual Report so you can see up close what a “ST” aligned community does.  Forsyth County is in North Carolina. In fact, it is the only NC city to be in Cradle to Career Network. When you access this Report, you’ll see alot of the CCSS buzzwords (ie: rigorous standards, college/career ready, etc.) BUT you won’t see CCSS named specifically. In fact, the only reference to CCSS I could get from “ST”‘s website was the director’s participation in a panel discussion where CCSS was one of many topics. But, as we’ve learned in our anti CCSS fight, just because you don’t see it on the surface doesn’t mean it’s not there. It means you have to look closer. (the Report: Promise-Report-Web )

Tech Thursday: Career Tech/Common Core and Alternative Education

Today’s post, a look at Career Tech Ed (Common Core Aligned) and Alternative Education.

Before we look at how Common Core via the Career Tech Education has impacted “Alternative Education”, we need to know how “AE” is defined. So, for that, I’m using the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Research Report “How Do the States Define Alternate Education?” (I must cite it as the following: Porowski, A., O’Conner, R., & Luo, J. L. (2014). How do states define alternative education?(REL 2014–038). Washington, DC: U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance, Regional Educational Laboratory Mid-Atlantic. Retrieved from http://ies.ed.gov/ncee/edlabs.)

According to the Report’s Summary, “Alternative education programs—broadly defined as educational activities that fall outside the traditional K–12 curriculum—frequently serve students who are at risk of school failure. Because individual states or school districts define and determine the features of their alternative education programs, programs may differ in key characteristics, such as target population, setting, services, and structure.” The Report goes on to share that depending on the State, legislation may have differing definitions. For example, only 43 States and the District of Columbia have formal definitions of what alternative education is. Things considered that need to be clarified are what age groups are being targeted? Are the alternative education programs to serve those with special needs? Will there be other services provided like anger management, counseling, etc. Will the alternative education be separated from the more traditional education or will it be included among the more traditional settings?

A bit further into the Report, this definition of what alternative education can be defined as is cited, “Alternative education programs—broadly defined as educational activities that fall outside
the traditional K–12 curriculum—include home schooling, general educational development
(GED) programs, gifted and talented programs, and charter schools (Aron, 2006).”

*NOTE: If you’ve been following my blog long, you know I’ve already addressed how the GED is now aligned to Common Core and how charters, home education are finding Common Core Standards in their choices as well. If you haven’t been following for long, please be sure to use the search feature.

A federal definition of alternative education was included in the Report, “At the federal level an alternative school is defined as “a public elementary/secondary school that addresses needs of students that typically cannot be met in a regular school, provides nontraditional education, serves as an adjunct to a regular school, or falls outside the categories of regular, special, or vocational education” (Sable, Plotts, & Mitchell, 2010, p. C-1). This definition does not address alternative education programs within schools.”

The Report goes on to state that ‘Alternative Education’ has changed. Curriculum and content have been aligned to meet specific needs or goals. This means it drives the approach to the students. You’ll want to look at the tables included to see where your State lands, 


What CTE means for “Alternative Education”:

According to a special report from the Association for Career and Technical Education on Drop Out Students,(see: http://www.acteonline.org/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=2094) The Dropout Prevention Center/Network notes that CTE (Career Tech Education) is one of its 15 solutions or strategies. The Center/Network believes “such as individualized instruction, service-learning, community collaboration, mentoring, active learning, and educational technology. According to the Center, “A quality CTE program and a related guidance program are essential for all students.” CTE was identified to have five potential benefits to at-risk students by Schargel and Smink in Strategies to Help Solve our School Dropout Problem. These benefits include enhancement of students’ motivation and academic achievement; increased personal and social competence related to work in general; a broad understanding of an occupation or industry; career exploration and planning; and acquisition of knowledge or skills related to employment in particular
occupations or more generic work competencies.” The Association for Career and Technical Education’s Report for Students With Special Needs, titled “Transitioning Students with Special Needs into Work” (see:

CTE is dependent upon the WorkKeys assessment (which has been shown in print and video here on my blog and others to not only be Common Core aligned, but a massive data mining tool as well)


Regardless of how your student may be considered as ‘alternative’, some truths remain the same:

1) All CTE is Common Core/Workforce aligned. (refer back to any of my Thursday posts)

2) You’ll be eligible for a “Certificate”, a “Certification”, a “License”, or a “Degree”.

3) You will be assessed multiple times and at some point need to use the WorkKeys assessment which will assign a national number. Many employers will not consider you without that national number.

4) Because Career Tech Ed has 16 clusters, you will be inserted into someone’s ‘talent supply pipeline.’

5) One of CTE’s biggest reasons for existing: Driving America’s competitiveness in the ‘global economy’.

Since this video has been made and released the State Superintendent for Public Instruction (VA), Mary Wright has retired and Steve Sharp in now overseeing VA’s Public Instruction. How I Know Common Core and CTE are related:

One of the earliest websites I discovered when embarking on research to track down Common Core beyond high school is http://www.careertech.org/CCTC  Even when you look at the page you’ll notice Common Core, but what you’ll realize is the shrewd placement of the two words. “Common Career Technical Core’. Once on the site, run your mouse over the second tab and you’ll see a drop down menu feature those “Career Clusters”, then look a few spaces down and bingo! “Common Core State Standards”, in living color. Want to find out where CTE is in your state? Use this link: http://www.careertech.org/cte-your-state If you go back to the main page and read their ‘fine print description’ you’ll see the misguidance of information. “State-led”, ‘rigorous’ are just two of the errors. California’s presentation has a total transformation of the Common Core/CTE Standards, all based on information that has been created by the Common Core Machine (meaning it is based on either CCSS supporter funding or a CCSS partner). Since Common Core is a one size fits all and the definition for alternate education ISN’T, which do you think will have to bend to conform to the other?
