It Isn’t All Sunshine And Nuts

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, in my last article, I shared with you how HR 62 would make a grab for our babies from a federal level. Included in that article was how MN is struggling to keep parents in control of their families.

The article before that,  I  showed you how FEPA (Foundations for Evidence-based Policy Making Act) would also assist in the grab for our babies, I showed you how OR was considering in-home visits. Also included was how UT has them firmly in place.

In both articles I stressed that the grab for babies/the in-home visits is not exclusive to one State. It’s in all the States and US territories ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) money goes to. If it hasn’t shown up in your State yet, hang on, it is in the works.

GA is struggling with recent news. So are KS and CT.

***For the remainder of this article, I share information sent to me concerning some other warning bells from the latest 3. Be sure to compare it to the information from OR, UT, and MN.

While the tactics may differ a bit, the overall goal of aligning babies to the CCSS Machine is the same. The CCSS Machine pushes ‘readiness’ at all levels, now, since ESSA, and the mandate to expand early childhood ‘learning’, as well as universal PreK, this is why we’re seeing SO much in the news.

First Up, KS, The Sunflower State:

Warriors, Lisa H., shared this with me via email and wanted you to know about their ABC Program. No, it’s not for teaching little ones their alphabet. It’s called the Attachment Bio-Behavioral Catch-up Program.

 

Lisa shared that the group behind this Program (the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund) was on last year’s legislative calendar and appeared before the KS Education Committee. They are scheduled to appear before the KS Education Committee again this yearn for a follow up. The email went on to share that SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency, a part of the US Dept. of HHS), as well as others are fully backing removing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).

So is the CCSS Machine, Warriors, only it’s not for school readiness as much as it is micro-managing citizens. I wrote about this push headed up by the Rockefellers and being embraced by churches, law enforcement, etc. in my Resilience articles. )

What are Lisa’s concerns? Swabbing children’s mouths for cortisol levels and recording the entire in-home session with the parents and children.

While some may read this and think, “Oh, that’s not too bad.” The reason this ministry is able to intrude like this is due to the expansion of P3s (public-private partnerships) in ESSA for education! The in-home visits are part of ESSA’s supposed dedication to student achievement and family engagement.

What it REALLY is, is home invasion by the government. Take into consideration that our U.S. Constitution was supposed to prohibit such (4th Amendment), but with FEPA actively neutering 9 U.S. Constitutional Amendments, the 4th is severely at risk. FEPA also will tie to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996). Which, as we know, is used in health care.

Related for KS and other States:
The United Methodist Health Ministry was awarded $650,000.00 by the Kansas Early Childhood Initiative (part of the Kansas Health Foundation) under “access to care”. The Grant was given in 2017 and ends in 2020. The ‘access’ is the ABC Program. The Kansas Health Foundation is a massive P3 and was created as the result of the Hospital Corporation of America purchasing the non-profit Wesley Hospital.

Hospital Corporation of America can be found in 20 States and the United Kingdom. From their latest Annual Report (2017), this quote, “Within our markets, we worked to broaden our service line capabilities by investing in cancer, trauma, stroke, behavioral health and pediatric services. This focus centers on elevating clinical performance and
establishing consistent clinical protocols to achieve better patient outcomes across the
organization.” HCA receives Medicare/aid funding from the federal government, as well as private investors on the Stock Exchange. On page 15, you’ll see how HCA has psychiatrics listed as a way to compete in health care. Page 42 admits the use of third party data contractors to handle patient data. Page 46 gives the list of  the 20 States and the United Kingdom information.

Also joining with the United Methodist Health Ministry is the Kansas  Children’s Service League (KCSL). It’s a part of the National Prevent Child Abuse America. The KCSL is all about collaboration. As in the ‘village’ concept as shared by this Kansas educratic leader.

Kansas has embedded (2015)  a State Wide Initiative called “Kansans Can”. A vital part of the KC Initiative? The “Kansas Can: School Redesign Project”. Warriors, as we know that’s 100% U.S. Dept. of Ed fodder.

 

Next, Stop: GA (Peach State):

Warriors, you may know Georgia is personally, very dear to me. That said, the grab for babies is just as bad in the Peach State as it is in the Sunflower State.

Recently, it was announced that the PreK Development Grant the State received would go to DECAL. DECAL (Dept. of Early Care and Learning) will be“Using grant funds, DECAL will conduct a statewide ECCE needs assessment; develop a statewide strategic plan to strengthen the state’s ECCE system; create resources to inform families about available programs and services; develop groups and opportunities for early childhood educators to share best practices; and create supports for the state’s dual language learners and their families.” (*Note: ECCE is short for Early Childhood Care and Education.)

Under DECAL, the early learning program is called “Bright From the Start”. Warriors, look at the ‘peach packed agenda’ below:

Also, recently in GA , and via Senate Bill 15, the push to expand ‘school safety’ (another ESSA mandate) into private schools. In GA, that also includes homeschoolers. Warriors, as you’ve known, I’ve been warning for years that the federal overreaches in ESSA would assimilate these families.
This will increase, not only the intrusion into family homes, but also set up more data mining and control by Homeland Security Agencies.

Lastly, The Nutmeg State, Connecticut:

Warriors, one of my Anti Fed Ed Warriors,  Anne M. in CT, recently posted a picture about the United Way of CT’s grab for babies and their Moms.

Also tied to the (National Inoperability Collective) NIC, is David Wilkinson. Wilkinson, according to his LinkedIN profile as a Director of the White House Office of Social Innovation (under Pres. Obama). You can also tie Wilkinson to the Ounce of Prevention Fund. Back in 2016, I shared with you the OPF’s grab at children via ESSA.

For All The States:

United Way is tied to Google and the United Nations, so, of course, ‘cradle to career’ is the alignment. United Way is partners with the CCSS Machine in many other ways and groups as well.

From 2016, United Way, President Obama’s Promise Neighborhoods (which was a codified mandate in ESSA), U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and “Youth Build”. Also from that year, United Way and those ‘wrap around services’.

From 2017, United Way and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) for cradle to career coding.

Closing:

Warriors, the cradle to career, then grave will keep being seen in the news as the ESSA mandates continue to ursurp the Tenth Amendment. In my next article, we’ll look at the federal misguidance on ‘school choice’ and the 116th’s bill to support the deception.

Global, Smobal?!

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, we know there are continued links between ‘federally led education’ and globally led education. We also know these ties which lie between education and our communities are deeply embedded. To that end, I’m using ‘global, smobal’. The “global” is self defining. The “smobal”? My take on ‘small town gone global’.

The manifestations of these ties are easily found in the UN’s (United Nations’s) SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), as well as the American laws:
WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014), ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015), HEA (Higher Education Act, currently being re-written), and any other law which combines any of the above.

Thanks to many Anti Fed Ed Warriors and many other Anti Global Education Warriors, we’ve been able to see what programs are being used to breed so much collectivism. As we know, the UN’s SDGs use education as the single most important ‘change agent’ to infiltrate our towns and cities. (Source for image below)

What do some of the activities look (or sound) like to bring the UN’s desired alignments to fruition? I have a few examples below:

Global, Smobal: Part One:

Warriors, recently I was in Georgia attending to family business. While helping out, I found myself in a doctor’s office where I picked up a local magazine. The magazine was all about the arts and culture of the area. As I was thumbing through the pages, I stumbled upon an article about a county at the opposite end of the State, where the citizens are finding Career Clusters as a great unifier for them.

One of the reasons this particular magazine was featuring the far away county? Since it appears to be such a great success in one rural area of Georgia, it can be an equal success somewhere very similar in another part of Georgia.

Notice on Page 6, the amount of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math) aligned workforce education, as well as those ‘wonderful’ Career Clusters. Note that the County’s schools are charter ones. Notice among the community unifying buildings is a new innovative amphitheater. By sheer coincidence, the area I was visiting had just completed their new amphitheater.

Global Smobal, Part Two:

Also, in the same magazine, another article about a multi state effort to join businesses and education. This effort is geared more for adults than the previous article, where students are the main focus. To find that article, go to page 93 and those immediately following. Warriors, the ‘global smobal’ here that this new type of business and education collaboration is a direct product of STEM. The purpose of the ‘teamwork’? Redefining how communities work.

As we know, STEM is a UN directive contained within the SDGs. The redefining of our communities? That’s straight out of the SDG Tool Kit. How does STEM tie to the Career Clusters? Read the ‘research’ behind STEMIE. The free K-12th grade curriculum for STEMIE? Aligned to the Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards and, is based off the PAST Foundation’s framework for education.

PAST Foundation is based in OH, but is an international group devoted to project based learning combining STEM and anthropology to prepare for 21st Century careers. PAST’s public private partnerships are what make this twist on STEM ‘work’. Warriors, as we know, the increase of P3s (public private partnerships) was a mandate of ESSA, the Every Student Succeeds Act.

April 21st, 2018, my local town newsletter is advertising the Global Youth Service Day. According to the town’s information, this workday is the only one devoted to children (ages 6 to 18). What type of projects will be completed? Local service projects to benefit the collective community.

Warriors, if you haven’t seen the connection of all the UN/SDGs and STEM to your country’s demise at the hands of the CCSS Machine, I hope this article has helped shed some light on the dastardly wicked deceptions going on in education. We are well on our way to being that ‘STEM nation with a STEM people for a STEM economy with STEM jobs’ for a global good which was inserted in America during the previous administration. Presently, no stopping this global dagger which pierces our hearts has been given by the current administration.

Oh, my fellow Anti CCSS Warriors..We have seen so many awful things happen to education in the past few years together. We’ve seen an increase in the ‘workforce training’ being passed off as ‘academic prowess’.

We’ve seen shifts in how the attitudes, values, beliefs, and, thinking have become so twisted we may not recognize who our children are. Because ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) codified CCSS, we will continue to see unwelcome changes in our nation.

However, what’s changing our children right before our eyes?

Globalism, collectivism, Communism, Socialism, and…………

SATANISM

Because Globalism and all the other ‘isms’ are tied to Common Core (remember, the roots of CC are in the United Nations, which has  been traced to demonic activities and beliefs.)

Part of the ‘sales pitch’ surrounding all this? “Fun”. One of my previously published articles showed you how the ‘fun’ was a guise devised by Robert Muller to steer our children to workforce based education for a socialist benefit. While the article was pointing out how homeschoolers are being pulled into this.


Back in 2014, I wrote an article about Evil having no place in education. It shows you the awful connections between Bill Gates, UNESCO, the World Core Curriculum and the Lucifer Publishing Company.

However, it’s what follows, which is the truly unpleasant (downright disturbing) educational activities you need to know about.



ASSCs:

Warriors, that’s the abbreviation for the After School Satan Clubs in America. Maybe you remember the news from 2016 about the school district in GA which was being asked to start up an ASSC.

According to CBN’s (Christian Broadcasting Network) website, Clubs (as of 8/17) are in Los Angeles, Pensacola, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tacoma and Springfield, Missouri. Below, in the screen shot, notice the ‘fun’ pictures used to draw our children’s attention to the ASSCs:

(*Note, as of this writing, Satanic Temples are in TX, GA, NY, OR, CA, LA, FL, AZ, MA, CO, MI, and WA. Coming soon: MO and OK. Where there’s a Temple, the ASSCs will also be. According to all the sources, ASSCs are targeting similar Christian Clubs. I did not find any mention of any other faith based clubs being targeted.)


Warriors, according to all the information I found, these Clubs are available to all school choices, not simply public school children.  If the two smaller versions (above) don’t look ‘fun’ enough, look at the way the Satanic Temple ASSC’s page on their website has depicted the ‘mascot’:

Why the red and orange circles? The CCSS Machine has gone to great pains to sell the nation on how ‘great’ the critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and character building are with the aligned curriculum and resources. These resources include after-school programs.

The 4Cs (collectivism, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity) are the anchors of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math). The 4Cs are the anchors of Common Core, Career and College Readiness, Next Gen Science, Career Tech Education, STEM, C3 (College, Career, and Civic Life) and whatever else CC’s been re-branded as (ie: “Future Ready”)

The 4Cs, College/Career Readiness, STEM, and all which connects them are embedded in ESSA, too! More globalism ties in ESSA include the “UDL”, Universal Design for Learning”, Universal Preschool, and, massive data mining to track students from cradle to grave.

You may also notice there’s a “Protect Children” campaign that also is a Satanic Temple project. It’s against corporal punishment. Below, is a picture of the letter they have available to send to your School Board against any type of corporal punishment, including isolation rooms:

Warriors, the video contained in this undated  Newsletter is downright chilling. Not because of the images, the background ‘song’.

According to the Forbes article about the ASSCs, the writer also thought the video was chilling. Temper that with this article from the Federalist. It carries the tone of  ‘let’s step back a minute’. While I think what the author is sharing is worth listening to, I know, as a Mom, there is MUCH to be watchful of anytime Satan enters the picture.


Warrior Concerns:

Why did I include the video, if it’s so creepy?

1) We need to know! How can we protect our students from the CCSS Machine if we do not know all the ways IT seeks to destroy our children? After all, so much is available to them on-line. Have they seen this video?! We must know! It must be discussed.

2) Warriors, we need to understand with Satanism comes mind control and mental health concerns (The Temple has a group known as the Grey Faction).

3) I am not stating mental activities will be carried on during an ASSC gathering. But look at the ‘art’ pages below in the pictures. Strong mental images.

4) Knowing how damaging the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is and how much of it is codified in ESSA, we should be VERY active in finding out what’s in our schools. With ESSA’s mandate for MORE after school, community wide programs, we MUST be very diligent in finding out what groups like the ASSCs are out there, how will they have access to your students? With the recent new appropriations from Congress which increase the amount of mental health ‘activities’ in/outside schools, we must DEMAND we be informed before any actions are taken!

A Last Concern, based on Evidence:

Warriors, I know this is quite a bit to process. Believe me, I know. However, remember when I shared near the beginning that the CCSS Machine is rooted in the UN? So much of what’s above is also in the CCSS Machine. Is Satanism present in the United Nations?

From 2009, this article reveals the symbolism found in the New York headquarters. From 2016, this article from the New American Magazine ties the UN, Satanism, and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) together. The ‘common’ bond? It appears to be the combined efforts of Robert Muller and Alice Bailey (a known occultist).

Closing:

Warriors, due to the season we are in, so close to Halloween, keep a watchful eye for anything which seems to harm your family (pets included). We know the CCSS Machine is full of tricks. We know ESSA is no gift of greatness for our education system. We understand the dangers of any ideas which do not fit our family belief system, MUST not be indoctrinated.

An Education Webinar from June 30th:

Just a couple of days ago, the Gates Foundation backed “Education Week” hosted a free educational webinar about post secondary life for those with special needs. The following information is from links suggested as credible resources during the webinar. Credible for us, the anti CCSS Warriors, means we can use the resources to know where to look to access the CCSS Machine’s grasp for our students with special needs.

Education Week’s article, “Advocates Hope Common Core Will Rub Off” shares this criticism that not enough transitional planning is going on for those with special needs shifting from high school to post secondary education. While that may or may not be true, it’s the source EW used which is skewed towards CCSS/CTE (AIR, American Institutes of Research) offering the criticism. “”Many plans lack depth, breadth, and personalization; have low expectations for students with disabilities; do not include plans for postsecondary education; and do not map out how the K–12 education system should connect to other systems, such as postsecondary, vocational rehabilitation, workforce training, or independent services,” says a 2013 report from the American Institutes for Research. “As a result, many students with disabilities leave high school with amorphous and generic plans that fail to address their individual circumstances or interests.” To access the entire article: http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2015/06/04/advocates-hope-common-core-will-rub-off.html?intc=EW-DPCT15-TOC

This group based in VA, is supporting the ‘Every Child Achieves Act’ (aka: HR5 as the re-authorization of the NCLB law which in turn gave us Race to the Top and Common Core). Here’s an excerpt from their letter of support to Sen. Lamar Alexander, “NASDSE commends you for including in your bill language that only allows up to one percent of all students – those who have the most significant cognitive disabilities – to take an alternate assessment based on alternate achievement standards. This cap is critical to ensuring that students with disabilities will remain on track to graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary education and/or a career. Also available from the NASDSE, is a 2004 data collection document which spells out what ADDITIONAL data is collected on each student with special needs. You can read it: SpecNeedsDataCollect

NASDSE has been around since 1938, but its most recent set of goals includes more post secondary success for the students served. Here’s a short paragraph you may find interesting, “The continued collaboration with our key partners, including the National Association of State Title I Directors and the Council of Administrators of Special Education brings us closer to common language in serving and improving outcomes for all students and remains a priority for NASDSE, as is collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, in order to provide input regarding implementation of the State Systemic Improvement Plans,  Results Driven Accountability and the role of the National Center for Systemic Improvement (NCSI) in providing direct support to our members.”

From their website, “Founded in 1977, PACER Center was created by parents of children and youth with disabilities to help other parents and families facing similar challenges. PACER Center enhances the quality of life and expands opportunities for children, youth, and young adults with all disabilities and their families so each person can reach his or her highest potential. It is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Office for Special Education Programs (*NOTE: you can find this fact at the bottom of every page on the website highlighted in blue)

From the Pacer’s 2014 published resources, a ‘new’ way to look at career paths for those students ready to go from high school to post secondary education. Here’s an interesting couple of paragraphs to read. When reading, consider the context of Career Pathways and/or Career and Technical Education (which are CCSS aligned), “To be able to acquire these skills and effectively change jobs, and plan and manage multiple careers over one’s life time, career development skills are important. The process by which youth get to know their strengths and interests, learn how different jobs connect with those interests, and build these career planning and management skills is called career development.” 

“By helping to support youth in making important informed decisions about their future, parents and other caring adults can contribute a great deal to their children’s post-high school success. For youth with disabilities in particular, families often play the very important roles of setting high expectations for youth’s future employment, and of advocating for opportunities for them to identify their strengths and interests and to explore career options. Families who learn about and begin the career development process with their youth early will be better prepared to support them in choosing and building a bright future. “Family” here is defined broadly as adults and children related biologically, emotionally, or legally, including single parents, blended families, unrelated individuals living cooperatively, and partnered couples who live with biological, adopted, and foster children.” The entire document was found on a linked website from the Pacer’s website. Today’s “Riddle Me This” is all about a new effort accredited by AdvancED (so CCSS friendly it’s downright shameful) and growing in NC. We’ll also delve into which other states are involved.

The Context:

Many of us who are fighting CCSS, have already been able to connect the dots between AdvancED and CCSS. However, I know many of us may need a refresher OR may be so new to fighting CCSS, they haven’t made the connection. To help you establish what AdvancED does, here’s an excerpt from my guest post I wrote on LadyLiberty1185’s blog in mid 2014: AdvancEd is an online company dedicated to helping your school be the best. What you need to know about AdvancED:
1) They fully support the re-authorization of ESEA (as in the HR5 federal legislation).

2) To support their position of the re-authorization, their report on ‘Diagnostic Review’ explains how they will use school data to an extreme. Get the report: Diagnostic-Review

3) In AdvancED’s latest Annual Report, the non profit shared many vital details we, as anti CCSS warriors need. FYI, the organization is worth over $16 million dollars and is purposed to reinvested everything into continuing to change education. Get the report: AE-AnnualReport2013-14

The New Push:

Now that you have that information, here’s how AdvancEd is pushing their CCSS support into NC via a ‘new’ school….

Called “North Carolina Connections Academy” (website: http://www.connectionsacademy.com/north-carolina-virtual-school/home.aspx) How did I discover this new school? I received a colorful flyer in my regular mail. The big banner at the top of the mailer states that the school is a ‘tuition-free virtual public school’. All the in-person, ‘get-to-know-all-about-us’ meetings are held in nearby locations (here in NC). However, the return mailing address gives me a Maryland location. Hhmm….not surprised. Here’s the website address for the home office in MD (it’s called “Connections Education, LLC”): http://www.connectionseducation.com/

The first clue to CCSS allegiance is ‘public school’. Virtual public schools in NC are still rather new, therefore, not totally understood. Here’s an excerpt from an article by UNC’s WUNC. “The General Assembly required last year that the state create a four-year pilot program for two virtual charter schools. Only two schools applied: North Carolina Virtual Academy, run by K12 Inc.; and Connections Academy, to be managed by Connections Education.” (entire article: http://wunc.org/post/virtual-charter-schools-coming-nc)

The second clue is the curricula publishers list. (Pearson, MacGraw-Hill, and many others) Every page of this “NC” school has Pearson’s logo of “Always Learning” at the bottom.

Pearson’s Connection Education is not only in NC, but the following locations:

The Pearson run entity also offers CTE (Career Tech Ed) courses, so those Career Clusters/Pathways can occur in the virtual student’s life as it does in the students’ lives in the brick and mortar schools. (look under the ‘curriculum’ page for proof).

Of course, with Pearson in charge, you know your student’s information will be data mined all over the globe.

While it’s no secret how tied to CCSS North Carolina is, I do wonder if the NC General Assembly did their digging into finding out what organization is behind Connections Academy before they approved the educational experiment with not only our students, but, our tax dollars. If you live in NC, pass this information to your legislator. IF you live in any of the states listed above, share this with your legislators. Hold them accountable! No CCSS in our states MEANS No CCSS, CTE, CCR, or other sly rebrand, rename dreamed up.

Monday Musings: CCSS Field Trips?

Who doesn’t love a great field trip with the class or group? How far as CCSS gone to line up these educational excursions? Let’s see if we can find out!

Road Trip Ahead!:

I don’t know how much you may or may not know about field trips. I know plenty. It used to be my business, literally. My business partner and I had a great time planning educational field trips for private schools.

Then, 2008 came, and suddenly, the business dried up. Times were so financially tough, field trips fell to the back side of the planning table. Since then, I’ve noticed in researching Common Core that many of the destinations schools or educational groups go to are becoming more and more aligned. Then, I got my latest issue of the Student Group Travel magazine (seems my free subscription didn’t get cancelled). While not one mention of CCSS was in the glossy ads, plenty of clues to lead to the alignment were.

Down on the Farm:

So, why would some these destinations CHOOSE to align themselves with CCSS? After all, most of the places chosen for a field trip have no full time teachers for lesson planning. What do I mean? Well, take for example, a local farm which has become an agritourism location. What this means is the farm gets visitors, the visitors get activities and lessons. Here in NC, the agritourism has partnered with the NC Dept. of Public Instruction. No question about Common Core’s presence there. Below look at the graphic which was put together by NC State and is on file in the NC General Assembly’s website.

In fact, in this 2014 report, education is the second highest benefit of agritourism! I’m including the entire pfd, as you’ll want to see how ‘community(collective) minded’ the entire movement is. See: 2. NCSU_Agritourism_2014 You’ll also note that MO and NC worked together on this and that most of the data appears to be from 2011. I imagine, you may be asking the question, “That’s great, Lynne, but where’s the NC DPI tie in?” See this graphic from a farm near where I live in NC:

If you were to click each of the Standards, you’d be taken to a separate page where the CC is laid out for Preschool and up. Please note that I’m not suggesting ALL agritourism is CCSS aligned, but I’ve found where back in 2009, all kinds of agribusiness leaders met and were learning from each other how to increase agritourism for the ‘collective region’ of TN, GA, NC,and SC. Grant money was used to fund this educational meeting. It will show you where to look in your state’s agritourism (example: USDA grants). I was able to find in SC, a specific type of grant used, RBDG (Rural Business Development Grant). Don’t think I’m out to kill the farmers, I grew up on a farm. I love farmers. However, when CCSS is involved, I’m not afraid to dig up the dirt!

Going shopping or to the classroom?:

You, as a warrior of CCSS, know, it is everywhere, but what about at the mall? Yes, I found it at the Mall of America! Remember I said I had a magazine with suggested field trips? This one was a featured destination. In the event you’ve not been to MOA (Mall of America), it’s in MN, where supposedly, there’s no CCSS. So, is it true? MN has only adopted the ELA portion of CCSS. Nickelodeon has a big place at the Mall. So big, it’s called “Nickelodeon’s Universe”. Nickelodeon is the #1 brand with kids. It also is part of Viacomm. Viacomm is a huge supporter of STEM (yes, STEM is absolutely connected to CCSS). At the “Universe”, you can get a 3 or 4 hour physics class. The materials have recently been updated. I did find the old physics guide, but to access the updated version, you have to contact group sales. I was able to find that on Nick, Jr. preschool games are crammed with STEM. American Girls brand and Legos each have big stores in MOA. Both have chosen to align with CCSS, as well. AG (American Girls) uses history as a main feature in their dolls. Legos, we know, involves science and creativity. The news about AG broke a couple of years ago when a Pearson Publishing mini textbook showed up in the accessories for the dolls. See:

Other Field Trips:

Aquariums, museums, and yes, even amusement parks can have CCSS.

For example, I live near Carowinds Amusement Park. Each year there’s an Educational Day where school groups of all educational choices may join in and learn engineering, science, physics, math, and other subjects. Is CCSS there? Through the partnering group, Discovery Place, yes it is! While DP supplies the lessons, which are aligned, Carowinds provides the place lessons are carried out. Sneaky! Where can you find the CCSS tie to museums? If they are connected to any sort of U.S. Department, you can bet your school bus, CCSS is there. If they are associated with the Smithsonian Institute, CCSS will be there. If your museums are gifts to the state citizens, CCSS will be there. For example, here in NC, we have public aquariums on the coast. Aligned lessons are there. Why? Funding is part of the answer. The Dept. of Public Instruction’s the other. See the below screen shot:

It’s a shame CCSS is ruining education, but it’s absolutely horrid that field trips are going down the same road.

WYBI Wednesday: RttT, STEM, Education Waivers

Thus far this week, there’s been  a timely inter-connected theme for my :education waivers, Common Core, and our individual states are being impacted. Today’s post is no different.

I broke this article late last night to my fellow NC anti CCSS warriors due to the 2 day State Board of Ed meeting beginning in just a little while. However, there is much for the rest of the states to use as information. I encourage you to review the past 2 days posts if you would like to use all 3 of the waiver posts as weapons. Today’s article, how the waivers continue to point back to Race to the Top.

Thanks to transparency, accountability laws, and requests for information, our job of finding tools to fight Common Core has been made SO much easier. Recently I was tipped off about a regularly scheduled State Board of Education meeting happening today and tomorrow here in NC. One of the agenda items caught my eye. NOT for the subject matter, but for the ‘Network’ mentioned. In fact, it’s called the “RttT STEM Affinity Network”.

The RttT STEM Affinity Network:

Housed in NC’s Dept. of Public Instruction is this ‘lovely’ component given to us, the citizens by the Race to the Top funding, that also ‘gave’ us Common Core. If you are new to my blog, you’ll need to know that STEM was the main agenda item set up by the PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) who, in turn, created a game plan given to the White House. Common Core was the ‘perfect’ guise to use in incorporating STEM into our lives. (see:  https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/02/from-the-files-pcast-stem-and-common-core/)

Here’s an excerpt from the NC DPI on the “Affinity Network”, “The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) dedication to building a world-class workforce through innovative STEM education has partnered with The North Carolina New Schools to build a network of STEM-themed high schools throughout the state. North Carolina New Schools in collaboration with NCDPI has identified 20 themed high schools tied to the economic development of the state.  These schools serve as either Anchor or Affiliate Network high schools that reflect the areas workforce development in either: Aerospace, Security, and Automation, Biotechnology and Agriscience, Energy and Sustainability, or Health and Life Sciences.”

Enter the ‘Consortium for Educational Research-North Carolina’:

Known as CERE-NC for short, this group has been crucial in reporting the success of NC’s use of RttT funding when it comes to the partnership project of NC New Schools and STEM Affinity Network.  The STEM report I found on-line from this group, (which consists of SERVE Center of the University of Greensboro, Friday Institute (a  pro CCSS group)housed at the NC State University, The University of NC at Chapel Hill, NC Institute of Public Policy) Why a STEM report? It was part of NC’s Race to the Top Evaluation and a kind of ‘where do we go from here’ message. I’ve included the final version of the 2013 CERE-NC, STEM Affinity Report for you. RttT-STEM_Y3-Report_FINAL_12-05-2013

Here’s a list of the items most crucial to our fight:

  • 2013 marks Year 3 of NC’s RttT involvment, according to the report, page 181
  • New Schools and Friday Institute were deemed ‘objective’ in their findings, page 180
  • The Appendices, especially the Curriculum Development and Student Surveys, begins on page 78
  • A 4th year report which was to be finalized in Sept. 2014 should reveal where the Network under the RttT Initiative is headed. (see page 75) Why this is important is since the RttT funding is be non existent beyond 2014, what replaces it will be in question.

‘The primary focus of implementation in the schools is on changing instruction to incorporate the Common Instructional Framework across all subject areas, while development of STEM projects and themes is a secondary focus.’ (an excerpt from page 74) In reference to certain Affinity schools visited.

Reoccurring themes I saw:  Use of data collection; use of digital technology; more student led teaching; needing the staff and community buying-in; how great STEM/CCS are; leaving larger schools and creating smaller, comprehensive schools; combining early college that streamlines/aligns and thereby over-emphasizing the need for college/career readiness; confusion over which group schools should be accountable to, LEAs, NC’s Dept. of Public Instruction or the NC New Schools. STEM’s underlying agenda that depends on extending ‘learning’ into 21st Century Community Learning Center activities; big dependence on P3s (Public Private Partnerships) like SAS (a well known Common Core supporter and data mining company); ‘rigor’; ‘relevance’; ’21st Century skills’.

Before we move on..

Here’s one principal’s view, “With the Common Core and NSP [New Schools Project], it’s all about critical thinking and problem solving and that’s what we’re leaning towards more and more and we’re trying to move away from the traditional sit and get. . . . I would say that 80 to 85% of the faculty have embraced the [NC New Schools Design Principles]. We have very few naysayers.”

How this ties to the educational waivers:

Since I just published this on Monday, a couple of days ago, I know that it means for NC, continued implementation of everything that was included in our initial application. Here’s an excerpt, ““NC has been granted an extension of one year on the ESEA waiver. I see there are several things a group from the US Dept. of Ed have found while considering NC’s extension. One that strikes me, is a ‘monitoring report’, then I see almost at the closing of the letter, this, “I am confident that North Carolina will continue to implement the reforms described in its approved ESEA flexibility request and advance its efforts to hold schools and school districts accountable for the achievement of all students.” ” (see the rest: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/monday-musing-educational-waivers-friend-or-foe/)

So, does your state have a STEM Affinity Network or a CERE?

Not by those exact names, however. I did find the following that may help you track down the STEM/RttT connections for your states.

  • Battelle (http://www.battelle.org/our-work/stem-education/stem-learning-networks) manages at least 2 STEM networks with funding from the Gates Foundation. The Ohio STEM Learning Network (http://www.osln.org/hubs/), the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (where they were the pilot program for STEM Boy Scouts programming), see their strategy plan until 2018: http://thetsin.org/news/resource/tennessee-stem-stragegic-plan/
  • Battelle also manages the STEMx Network, which covers many of the States. The tag line for STEMx, “Transforming STEM Education and Workforce Development in the states, by the states.” (http://www.stemx.us/about/) Member states: MI, TX, OK, NM, NC, ID, IN, OR, KY, WA, NY, AZ, CA, GA, and DC (District of Columbia).
  • IF you do not see your state listed above OR if you want to find out more from your state listed above, follow these suggestions:
  • Check with your state’s Dept. of Public Instruction, remember, I found my journey beginning at the State Board of Education’s meeting agenda announcement.
  • Notice over the past 3 days when I’ve written about waivers and education, how many colleges and universities are involved. Check your state’s higher educational institutions. Much of the research pertaining to your state will be housed there, studied there, or involved in some way. Think outside the colleges of education, if needed. I found one educational research group hidden in the college of surgery and physicians because it was considered a science project.
  • Go back to the initial RttT application for your state. See what provisions your State Board of Ed promised. Follow the paper trail from there. Each plan had to be reviewed, accepted as a draft, affirmed as an action, then a copy returned to each state. Follow ups by the state level education departments has had to be made each year. You should be able to access each of those reports.
  • Check where your state is in the Waiver re-authorization process. See my post from Monday of this week on where to access that information.
  • IF all else fails, exercise your citizen’s right to a FOIA letter (Freedom of Information Act).
  • Remember, even IF your state didn’t receive the initial RttT funding, each state is impacted by the educational waivers, by workforce, and by STEM. Being sold by at least 13 federal agencies, promoted by the U.S. President’s massive budget for it, and all the clamor of the public private partnerships, STEM will NOT be going away.

Sic’ ‘Em Saturday: “Springboarding” into the CCSS/AP Pool

Have you heard of “Springboard”?

According to the ‘College Board’s’ website, the product line is a foundation. The description also goes on to tell you how great it, how it’s been proven, and so on. (http://professionals.collegeboard.com/k-12/prepare/springboard) What’s interesting is that to find out about Springboard, you have to go the site’s ‘K-12 Services’. Oh, gee, thanks College Board, for considering willfully aligning our students to CCSS as a service! Next thing you know, you’ll be telling us there are no sharp rocks in the picture above, as a service!

What the product line does:

Targets 6th-12th graders with customized content full of rigor, performance based assessments and all professional developed. Sounds great, right?  Here’s a link address for a video of one of the schools used as a testing site. So far, 8 states have adopted Springboard:  CA, GA, TN, FL, NM, UT, OR, and TX. From what I can gather, member states get free workshops, especially during the first year of a mutli-year implementation process. I picked a state to see just what else is in store for them, here’s Georgia’s Teacher workshop: “introduces the key components of the SpringBoard framework, emphasizing rigorous instruction, alignment to the Common Core, formative and summative assessments, and other challenges facing Georgia educators. Teachers learn how to use SpringBoard’s digital and print components to differentiate instruction, ensuring all students are engaged in education that leads to college and career readiness.” For the school districts: “SpringBoard coaches collaborate with district leaders in partnerships that grow stronger every year. They work together to design and implement a program of professional development that meets the needs of each school and evolves as those needs change.” This is just the first year, the second year is building expertise and covers even more implementation of the standards. The third year is for capacity building, after all, everybody’s gotta jump in at some point.

Learning Walks:
Another partnership Springboard offers the states, is called “Learning Walks“. If you’ve not heard of these they are quite something. While the state I live in hasn’t adopted Springboard, they DO use it in some of the schools. However, the state does use Learning Walks. I’m including the pdf file from one of the public schools: Learning_Walks_Overview

“Using the Learning Walk system (handhelds, laptops, or paper forms), “walkers” collect specific data that provides a series of snapshots of the teaching and learning process. Learning Walks are brief, often lasting no more than four minutes. The focus of a Learning Walk is on student work and teacher responses in the context of teaching and learning. Over time, the observer collects data on five specific components supported by research related to student learning. This information provides the walker with the opportunity to pose questions based on trend data to engage the teacher, PLC team, or entire faculty in thinking about beliefs, goals, practices, and instructional decision making. Promoting reflective practice will result in several benefits for all educators: • building trust in the reflective practice process itself; • inspiring teacher-driven research through the self-reflection focus; • informing dialogue about teaching and learning between the walker and teacher; • expanding capacity for analyzing thoughts, actions, beliefs, and emotions; • enhancing dialogue about teaching and learning within a professional learning community; • fostering self-monitoring of professional growth; and, • creating a school-wide climate of inquiry and research. In the formative performance appraisal process, observers use the Learning Walk model to collect observation data as a basis for posing periodic reflective questions as well as for sharing trend data periodically.” The five focus areas? Curriculum, lessons, students, work, and the quality framework. You’ll be interested to know that the opportunity for EVEN more data collection is available. The goal behind this particular county’s schools?  “All ________ County Public Schools students will graduate having actively mastered the lifelong-learning skills they need to succeed as 21st century learners, workers and citizens.” Of the ‘lifelong competencies, not one was based on specific subjects. they do contain a long, lofty list of character attributes. Collect and organizing data, think critically, be ethical, be healthy, communicate clearly, be civic minded among others.

You’ll want to read some of the texts, books, novels used in the program, among them, Fahrenheit 451, Pygmalion and others you will find interesting. I can tell you the Springboard Student textbook I have (part of my CCSS evidence collection), is directed to “All About Me”, the changes I’m facing, the changes in my perception, my world, measuring all those changes. If I were you, I’d want to sit in on a class or two with this subject matter.

What you can do:

1) If offered a choice for your student to have another English/Math class, take the non Springboard one. IF there’s no other choice, test the waters..ask to see the teacher’s guide, look at your student’s book. The website for Springboard has samples, so be sure to access those, print them out and take to your school board. Advance Placement courses are all being run by College Board, which means they are under David Coleman’s direction! You may know how the AP U.S. History has been rewritten, there are other courses that will also be rewritten in similar fashion.

2) Inform other families who have students using Springboard! Share this post, resources. Spread the word. Be willing to accompany those conducting “Learning Walks”. Find out how far the data sharing goes. Inform those in charge you will not allow your student to participate. Remember, exercising your rights as an informed parent is making a statement. It is NOT asking permission. You do not need the school’s permission to do what’s best for your student/child.

3) Be a step ahead of your students. Since you may be able to get the reading list (it can’t hurt to ask the teacher), get the book from the library, borrow it from a neighbor, buy it in a store, etc. Use family time to discuss what the actual vernacular is and contrast to the aligned assignment. 4) Participate, if you can, in the upcoming “College Board” Forum. They’ll be having a grand time discussing more alignments, more rigor, how the SAT alignment is progressing and more! The Forum is in CA, and is to be held 10/27-29, 2014. (details: http://forum.collegeboard.org/) Can’t make it to CA? There’s a Twitter handle already set up, you can follow it, #CBForum14 If you are interested, be sure to look at the extensive list of colleges who will be participating in the College Fair (a portion of the Forum). I spied several public AND private colleges. Hmmm..makes you want to see if all of them are CCSS aligned as well.

5) Draw up a petition to present to your school board that expresses the parents/students wishes to NOT use Springboard, College Board or AP classes! Write your legislators urging them to STOP their paid support of College Board CCSS aligned products. Help stop the misconception so prevalent..that all with CCSS aligned materials is a calm pool of delight. Stir up the water, folks!
