Disastrous Course

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, I’m changing things up a bit today. Rather than give you tons of resources exposing more CCSS Machine (Common Core State Standards) involvement than we EVER thought could be possible; I want to leave some hard hitting questions before you. When I first began thinking about all I’ve seen and connected for you this past week, I wanted to name this article “To Hell in a Handbasket”, it certainly fits.
However, I know some folks may not understand that this old-as-time phrase means ‘on your way to a disastrous course’.

Warriors, WE ARE on such a course!

usbasket

I urge you to talk about these questions among your family members, close and extended. I urge you to talk at your neighborhood get-together events, at school meetings or parents nights.

Most importantly, I urge you to petition your pastor, reverend, preacher, deacon, or any other church leader you know. Try to do this ASAP.
We’ve got work to do!

*Remember, just because ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) exists DOES NOT mean we are free of Common Core and all that goes with it!

A Bit of Context:

Why would I ask you to contact clergy members where education is concerned? After all hasn’t our government protected us from the ‘separation of church and state’?

Yes and no. We know the ‘separation of church and state’ was embedded in our Constitutional amendments. We also know that the context Jefferson meant was different. However, I’m not debating Jefferson’s meaning.

I using how the federal government has applied the separation when it comes to education and religious activity.  Because the federal government has split hairs over the topic, we’re definitely seeing an overreach into faith based education.
 Look below:

separatechurchstate

However, due to the ‘hair splitting’ the overreach into ALL education also risks our freedoms, even in religion.

Churches are told to stay out of the ‘State’s business’, but the “State” isn’t as respectful when the tables are turned.

clear-as-mud-1

Questions To Ponder/Discuss:
1) Why are our churches and/or religious based publishing groups supporting the CCSS Machine?

2) Why is the government allowed into churches or faith based organizations, especially in the name of education?

3) Are there groups which oppose one type of religion and have used laws to insert their choice of religious activity ‘instead of’ OR ‘in addition to’?

4) Since the 14th Amendment has been so connected to the 1st Amendment, why are more clergy members NOT helping guide their congregations AWAY from federally led education?

One Point:
1) If we all do not speak up, and loudly, we will lose our nation at the hands of outside forces THROUGH education. We cannot rely on a select few when so many of us are opposed.

Evidence to support Qs 1-4:
Q1) How can we expect future generations to
discern where P3s (Public Private Partnerships) aka “Blending Finances” are when they are helping the CCSS Machine with co-operation like this?

groupalign

Q2) Consider the government funds given to churches and/or their education programs for immigrants. This is a huge overreach into private education embedding extremely secular curriculum.

Q3) The After School Satan Clubs were successfully implemented when Satanists protested their First Amendment rights were being denied. The tie between the Clubs and the UN (United Nations) is spooky, indeed.

Q4) Back in 2015, Christianity Today published a pro-CCSS embracing church instilling the illegally based standards into VBS (Vacation Bible Schools). In 2016 I showed you a VA based church’s VBS where STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math) was a part of the overreach between church and state. *Note: STEM is a tool of the UN’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in American education as well as our entire lives.

Closing:

Warriors, this doesn’t even come close to fully addressing the problem of state overreach into private education. Remember, David Coleman’s presence in education has been embraced by the Catholics.
Churches around the nation are opening their doors for STEM after school programs. All the while NO ONE bats an eye at the egregiousness of illegally based education darkening the halls of institution where honesty is a commandment.

Even if you are not a Christian, the blurring of lines between government and families is dangerous. If you are a homeschooling family (exercising religious freedom or secular), curriculum and assessments slam full of Common Core has been thrust upon your family. Yet, very few of our leaders seem to care.

Within Our Shores?

Author’s note: original feature picture is courtesy of ClipGround.com

To My Anti Fed Ed Warriors, how many times have we been able to trace all the modern education reform back to entities NOT within our US shores? Each and every day, as time passes, we see bolder and bolder moves by our leaders (from federal to state levels) become more globally aligned than American-minded.

Oh sure; these leaders swear allegiance to our US Flag every day; they took oaths upon entering offices to uphold the Constitution: to protect American citizens.

If you’ve followed my blog for a long time, you’ve read how incensed I have become over the more-than-visible actions of UN-led motives, agendas, and ideals these VERY same leaders are supporting.

Warriors, WHAT are OUR leaders doing to us? Why are WE not enraged? We must ask ourselves: why are we being passive about this?!

We elected  these leaders (unless appointed) to represent us..not the world! Certainly not the US as filtered by the UN’s mandates.

Sitting On The Hill:

Warriors, sitting in Congress as I write (and you read) this, is a bill from OUR leaders in the name of ‘education’. Now, in my mind, I have this question running through my thoughts:

What in the name of ‘education’ is Congress setting our schools up for?!

iceburg

This globally encompassing Congressional bill is S 1171 and is titled “Keeping Girls in School Act”.
Sponsoring this? Sen. Sheehan from NH.
It was introduced back in May 2017 and is in the Committee for Foreign Affairs at the moment.
(*Note: one of the UN-inspired tactics in education is ‘lifelong learning’. So, with a title like this bill, does it literally mean our females will ALWAYS be in some type of school?)

****Let me pause here, Warriors.
As you know, on my blog and from other researcher/writers, we’ve been able to tie the CCSS Machine to the UN, the U.S. State Dept., the Office of Reform and Government Oversight, the U.S. Treasury, the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s International Education Office, and other departments which interact with other nations.

In Feb. 2017, I wrote about the House’s Resolution to adhere and uplift UNESCO’s “International Mother Language” Day.
****

From S 1171’s pages, look below, Warriors:

keepgirls
Warriors, what obvious questions do you have after seeing this? I know what mine are.

S 1171 has SO much overreach, it’s truly egregiously criminal.
1) Creates even more discrimination in education; not lessening it.

2) Creates even more P3 (public private partnerships) activity for economic gain.

3) Uses a portion of the human population to justify all of #1 and 2.

4) Shows the nation that it’s more important to honor global agreements and partnerships than correcting American education problems which address 100% of the  citizens.

5) Ignores the vast amount of research by Americans FOR Americans proving how we are under-serving young men.

6) Is clearly using the UN/UNESCO SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) #5 and any related to #5. (SDG #5 is “Achieve Gender Equality and Empower all women and girls”)

7) If you couldn’t read the three overreaches in the screen shot:
a) Expands the U.S. federal government’s power in education ( a $35 million dollar annual fund).
b) Puts the U.S. State Dept. at the head position for education’s innovation.
c) Relies on UNESCO studies and reports, not American studies and research.

8) Cites the U.S. State Dept’s “Global Strategy to Empower Adolescence Girls”

*To read the previous information I’ve shared with you about the U.S. State Dept.’s allegiance to STEM and STEAM (UN based and sold as US created), go here.
(*STEM is Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math; STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and, Math)

Q) How do STEM And STEAM connect to S 1171?
A) One of the biggest programs begun, by the Obamas, “Let Girls Learn” is rooted in STEM/STEAM. (see below)
A) The SDG Tool Kit  (education-for-sd-tool-kit-fully-highlighted-1 )
created by a University of TN professor clearly stated that to make the Goals successful, the female population had to be empowered in the name of education and economic gain.

letgirl

Warriors, this isn’t really about ’empowerment’, it’s more like exploitation. (Because after all, if we get girls out of the house and into the workplace, more money is made for everyone.)

*******************************************************
Warriors, there are a few important things S 1171 would achieve (for example: placing female genital mutilation under a ‘barrier status’); however, what is so concerning for all of us should be: that one more time, a ton of BAD legislation surrounds a minority of GOOD legislation.
Why have our leaders so ignored American problems and solutions?! Why have our leaders divorced their hearts and ears when listening to the citizens they represent?!

Closing:

Warriors, let me state for the record that I am not ‘anti-people’. I AM ‘anti big government’.
Men AND women are both essential to our lives.

I’m also old enough to have lived through the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) upheaval. I’ve worked in jobs side by side with male peers and seen them earn more. I UNDERSTAND how important some of the issues surrounding girls education are.

But, as a Mom to both sexes, I cannot see how one gender is more worthy (or exploitable) than the other.

It appears Congress isn’t thinking like parents in S 1171.

We have ENOUGH angst in our nation NOW. S 1171 has the potential to add fuel to this angst. How?

When you exalt one gender, the other gender is automatically seen as ‘less than’. Does Congress really want to further this type of treatment to Americans?

Here’s another fact, with all the citizens who are not associating  with the 2 genders, where will those students land with a bill like S 1171?

No government, especially ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’ should be tipping the scales when it comes to male/female education.

Our government isn’t even supposed to ‘BE’ in education AT ALL!
For argument’s sake, pretend the US Congress DID have a place in education, shouldn’t it be 100% American? Shouldn’t education be for girls AND boys? Wouldn’t THAT be true equality?

US fed statute

Warriors, I truly fail to see where the globalism; the use of P3s (especially with Gates Foundation money), and more discrimination, how Congress thinks S 1171 will help American students be the best they are meant to be.

I do see S 1171 furthering the road to ruin for our nation at the expense of our children.
Warriors, I hope you see this distinction, too.

From our Eastern shores to our Western shores in the US, along with our territories: We MUST stand up and protect our children.

Have You Heard?

My Fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors, have you ever heard of BARDA? I’ll be honest, I hadn’t. However, in looking at the Congressional Appropriations Bills (HR 3358 and S 1771) for the U.S. Depts. of Labor/Health and Human Service/Education, I discovered BARDA. Specifically, the ‘new-to-my-research’ agency was written into the S 1771’s Bill.

On Page 96, you’ll find under the heading of ‘Transfer of Funds‘ for the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, directives for where the NIH (National Institute of Health, a part of the HHS) could use some of the funds. Warriors, remember, these funds are our taxpayer dollars.

On Page 97, is where BARDA first shows up. “BARDA” stands for ‘Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority’.

P97
To access the Public Health Service Act, click here.

BARDA is part of the nation’s PHE System. PHE means Public Health Emergency.
**************************
We’ll look at the BARDA funding and research project near the close of this article. For now, we need to see how, if, at all BARDA plays into the CCSS Machine’s overreach in education.
*************************

Thought:

Warriors, with the word ‘biometrics’,  is there more BARDA does than simply prepare us for the worst scenarios? We know ‘biometric’ devices are used to monitor the SEL (social emotional learning) and have been tied to Common Core.

Question:

Now that ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is the law, will biometrics continue to be used? Back in March 2017, I published an article about some (then) current Congressional Bills. Related to them? A 2011 biometric study! Be sure to access this more recent article about the SEL and special needs students via ESSA.

biometricstudy
When I typed in ‘Social Emotional Learning’ into the PHE’s BARDA search bar, what you see below, is what I got back in results.

Warriors, please note I am NOT saying we do not need emergency plans, especially in our schools. BUT, my question is simply this, where does the emergency planning end and the SEL manipulation begin?

Answer #1:

bardasel

Warriors, some of the ‘red flags’ I saw in the highlighted resource in the screen shot above were: all States have behavioral health partners/plans. The plans are to cover emergencies, the partnerships go a bit deeper than ’emergencies only’. Some of these partners happen to be some of the very same ones which have rubbed stamped Common Core, support STEM, have Career Tech Education, or, are CCSS Machine member organizations in on approving the SEL overreach in education!

You can access the 2016 document, here.
(*Note: back in 2014, I wrote how SAMSHA was using Common Core as a tool for gun control via “Project Aware”; in 2015, this article about mental health and the manipulation of it in education for workforce needs. Then, in 2016, this article gives you a big run down of the federal level of overreach in not only mental health with agencies like SAMSHA, but many others!)

In the 2016 Document (above), look for the bottom of Page 14, ‘federal behavioral health support usually involves the provision of technical assistance, educational resources..’ (‘technical assistance’, more times than not, means data mining in some form)
Page 15, an inter-agency council for behavioral health: Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies. This Forum is a P3 (Public Private Partnership). It’s been around since 2007.

SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration), Red Cross, (Red Cross is mentioned on Page 16 and others.) Here’s a screen shot of Page 16 with emphasis added:

More Answers:

Below, are related documents from each of the major groups listed in the screen shot tie directly to ESSA, SEL, and/or behavior interventions OUTSIDE of disasters or emergencies!

Answer #2) https://www.nasmhpd.org/sites/default/files/the-business-case-for-behavioral-health-prevention.pdf (Uses CASEL ( Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), WHO (World Health Organization), OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), and other big name CCSS Machine members as ‘credible’ research sources)

Answer #3) http://nasadad.org/2015/03/state-substance-abuse-agencies-program-management-and-data-utilization-case-studies-of-eleven-states/ (from 2013, how 11 States were already sharing data across State lines and using the National Outcomes Measure model and connecting it for data mining. *Note: this organization is also the one involved with opioids. Warriors, as we know more students are being prescribed opioids and other behavior managing drugs.)

Answers #4 a, b, c) http://www.apa.org/pi/about/newsletter/2016/03/student-act.aspx (use this to find the 2 ESSA supportive documents from 2016)

Also from the APA is the 2017 Annual meeting syllabus. “School” is mentioned 57 times in the topics/presentation notes. I noticed at least 2 on ADHD.

To get to the Skinner referring article(s) from the APA, go here first (this is a research paper on a study of behavior interventions tested on college students), then visit here. (this is one of the few cited sources from the study on college students. It’s where Skinner’s education theory is mentioned.)

Answers #5 a and b) https://www.socialworkers.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=mLtr0q6HLnA%3d&portalid=0 (NASW’s support for ESSA document. Be sure to note the long list of other supporting groups.)

Also from the NASW, an entire page of ‘school’ related social work information for you, Warriors.

Answer #6) To access the Behavior Health Consortium (in the screen shot above), go here.

Answer #7) The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Press’s Disaster Publication has all kinds of partnerships and programs which you may find interesting.

Answer #8) Warriors, we know the educational shift is all about money, so do not be too shocked when you see the picture below:

Getting back to BARDA:

This 2014 article likens BARDA to a venture capital group hidden in DC.
Warriors, we know how toxic venture capitalists have been in education. Where health and education intersect is probably just as bad.

As far as the 10 year contract mentioned in S 1771 for BARDA? It appears that is a continuation of a project which began back during President Bush’s (the first) administration. It’s known as Project BioShield, (PB).
From the Strategic Plan (2011-2016) for PB, an increase in public private partnerships (P3s); 21st Century skills; a workforce steeped in science and technology (which of course means STEM education and STEM jobs); and, all which connects them.

Warriors, the PB price tag is in the billions. (*Note: refer to the highlighted “Bush” above. When that document opens, look to your right for ‘funding’).

Two resources for more about Project BioShield can be accessed here. Johns Hopkins (a known CCSS Machine member) and Oxford Press have articles.

STEM Endorsed by PHE:

Warriors, remember that BARDA is under the Public Health Emergency (PHE) arm of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. I was able to find on the PHE’s blog, not only an endorsement for early emergency preparation by studying STEM in 2017, but how the PHE is working in the context of a 17 year (began 2009) partnership for global health.

As we know from research, global health is part of the UN’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). STEM is a part of the SDGs, as well as part of the CCSS Machine.

Closing:

Warriors, S 1771 and its partner Bill HR 3358 lock in all the funds for things like BARDA and more educational overreach on 10/7/17. The LAST day to raise any challenge is 10/6/17. IF you’ve not contacted your Senator or Representative about the massive amounts of overreaching taxpayer-abused-funds. Please hurry!

K.I.S.S. Congress

BREAKING NEWS!!!!
H5963 has advanced in the House! If you received my earlier version of this same post, you’ll see the Bill number was incorrect. I’ve addressed that. I’ve also found out that I misunderstood exactly where HR5587 is. It passed the entire House by a vote of 405-5! The flurry of activity?! The House of Representatives is on ‘fire’ for their “Better Way” agenda. Leading that charge? Paul Ryan! A huge sold-out leader!
Link to HR5587’s Vote: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2016/roll503.xml

Warriors Against the Core, so far, 2016’s federal overreach into education has been written quickly, promoted widely, and is set to increase the choke-hold on freedom as we know it.

Yet, it appears the U.S. Congress could care less. Recently, I was a guest on the “Lori on Liberty” show, based out of CT. We discussed such nonchalance attitudes displayed from our leaders. We delved into all but H5963, you see below. If you would like the interview link (I’m part 1): https://spaces.hightail.com/receive/YtW2n
(*Note: the link expires 9/18/16. You can download it as a zip file.)

Why talk about these bills in D.C. which are in their ed/workforce committees? BECAUSE the bills SHOULDN’T be there AT all!!

toxicbillstodo

My point, Warriors?! EVERY one of the Bills you see above is toxic to America in HUGE ways! Warriors, we have the ‘writing on the wall’ before us. WHAT are we willing to do with it?

As you can see in the graphic above, each of the Bills has the most basic of toxic components listed. But, know this: each of one them you see above has more ties than a centipede wearing tennis shoes!

Here is a chart I prepared in August 2016 which gives you a side by side look at HR5587, S3271, S3190, and S3174. One for H5963 will need to be created, too.

fededoverreachchart

(*Note: Only HR5587 has moved out of its Ed/Workforce Committee. See the press release: http://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=401008 )

A problem is the LEGISLATORS want short and sweet (or ‘to the point’) pictures; one-half to 3/4 of a page in information!
Which is a HUGE clue as to they are unwilling to conduct the due diligence which they swore to do.
They should be not only willing to read the ENTIRE lengthy ‘saga-like’ bills being churned out, they should be doing it. IT’s THEIR JOB we PAY them for! We (Warriors) know several citizens who are DOING Congress’ job for them!!

Why are our Congress members NOT jumping up and down, screaming with anger over the 100% illegal daily activities going on?! Why are our Congress members NOT staging protests or holding press conferences revealing the criminal (yes, seriously criminal) charges which should be being levied against each other (and quite possibly themselves)?! If a ‘regular’ American citizen conducted even a FRACTION of any of the illegal moves, they’d be under the jail!

No, Congress is too busy NOT listening! Too much money is stuffed in their ears! The press conferences they are holding are to congratulate, not only, each other but every one of the supportive/sold out CCSS Machine members who helped ‘craft’ the Bills!

WHEN CONGRESS DOES NOT TAKE ITS JOB (ITS ONE and ONLY JOB) SERIOUSLY, WHY SHOULD I TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY?

If they’re not serious, why are they even there?! Because they’ve over complicated EVERYTHING, even the law. If they’d take the CCSS Machine’s money out of their ears, divorce themselves from the curried favors of the lobbyists of the CCSS Machine (or any person connected to it), THEY’D KNOW, “We the People” are their REAL Bosses! They’d recognize it is OUR voice with which they are to vote/protest/protect. They’d truly understand WE are to be respected, not manged like ‘village idiots’.

As an example of the glee and glory with which the House of Representatives is using in celebrating the advancement of HR5587, they’ve proudly displayed the list of organizations who are in 100% support of the Bill. It’s a ‘no brainer’ to see how many of them are CCSS Machine member organizations. Which means, Warriors, our same old foes are pumping out propaganda left and right.

supportfor5587

Since they are most of the same CCSS Machine members/tactics, we should be easily able to defeat them!

If you wish to access the “Letters of Support” our Reps are so proud of:
http://edworkforce.house.gov/letters-of-support-for-h-r-5587/

Don’t you wish they were as proud of our nation as they are of their criminal partnerships?

Warriors, if you’d like to help rein in Congress, or know someone who does, share this.
As has been said before, it’s up to “We the People”, we cannot trust or rely on those who have been elected and have jumped on the CCSS Machine.

Women on the Wall and U.S. Parents Involved in Education are two such groups. I’m honored and proud to be a part of both. A dedicated Warrior has taken it upon herself to create a new Facebook page (honoring my work looking into these Congressional bills) where you can help rein in Congress.
https://www.facebook.com/CommonCoreDiva.CallToAction1/

I CANNOT do this ALONE nor SHOULD you! One of us is easily marginalized. Many of us might be discounted, but a lot of us, will get their attention. We MUST be LOUDER than ever! We MUST not be polite..it’s a fight, not a Sunday dinner. We MUST protest in their backyard (which we pay for them to use). We MUST be truthful, our nation has suffered enough with the lies.

Please, help me, help you by listening out, watching out where these (or any other related legislation) Bills are concerned. We MUST be pro-active, not reactive. Help our nation and our students by taking whatever strikes your heart the most when you read the articles below and create screen shots, charts,  memes, or whatever will help get this life-saving message of our out there!

Ed With No Boundaries

A couple of weeks ago, I was posting my research on Twitter when I saw a post about a new page to follow. It was for ‘Unbound Education’. Having been so busy, I figured I would get back to digging into it sooner rather than later. Well, anti CCSS/Fed Ed Warriors, it is indeed much later than I wanted, but nonetheless, here is what I have been able to find out. Unbound Education is being touted as the new, open-ended success story in education, but is it really?

New Page, Same Old Education Reform:

Before I get to how I found Unbound and who/which CCSS Machine members are connected, watch this short video featuring a TX school where education is totally ‘free’ from traditional learning:

https://vimeo.com/161334585

Did you pick up on the core subjects and how they are taught? Did you hear how most everything is PBL (Project Based Learning) based?

Now, before you assume I am totally against PBLs, I have stated in the past that in moderation AND in the proper context, PBLs can be a great way to learn. However, we have seen evidence and research where the CCSS Machine has (like everything else in education it impacts) ruined PBLs and used them for excuses for collective grades, data mining, and so much more.

In case you haven’t seen the evidence/research:

1) From 2014, my look into the Buck Institute and their devotion to PBLs for Common Core and 21st Century Learning/Skills. From this article, here is a quote, “Project Based Learning is a transformative teaching method for engaging ALL students in meaningful learning and developing the 21st Century competencies of critical thinking/problem solving, collaboration, creativity and communication.” ”
The article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/25/sic-em-saturday-ccss-progressives-and-pbls/

2) From 2015, how the Global Readiness for our students of all ages is to play right into PBLs:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/09/monday-musings-global-readiness-and-ccss/

3) A look at Micro Schools, which are a part of the ‘unbounded’, PBL education movement:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/02/09/ftf-a-chip-off-the-education-block/

4) From earlier this year (2016), how PBLs and ESSA are steamrolling over traditional education: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/04/24/full-steam-ahead/

‘Discovering’ the Unbounded Education:

First off, let me clarify that the specific ‘Unbound Education’ I recently saw targets higher education. What you see above has also been posted on Twitter in the meantime.
So, anti CCSS Warriors, as we can glean from this, reforming education to the point of no boundaries, will encompass ALL levels of education.

To find the Twitter ‘Unbound Education’ account: https://twitter.com/search?q=unbound%20education&src=typd
(you can also use your search button from your own Twitter account and type in ‘unbound education’)

No matter if you are in PreK, K-12, or higher education, once on the Twitter feed, you will see all kinds of  information. As the CCSS Machine goes, all the content will be pro-education reform. See the screen shot below to see a sample view:

One unbounded education note for Acton, there are no classrooms, only studios. You can see this when you scroll down the website’s main page.

From the Acton ‘About Us’, page, you can learn how you can open an Academy (considered a business venture) and learn about the husband-wife team who founded the Academy. See: http://www.launchactonacademy.com/about
(Note: for my TX Warriors, you may be interested to know the husband-wife team is none other than Jeff Sandefer and Laura Sandefer. As in the billionaire couple in oil.)
If you are concerned about the educational views of this couple, you might want to read a 2013 article Mr. Sandefer wrote, http://spectator.org/56101_viva-la-revolucion/

To see what EdSurge has said about Sandefer’s contributions to education, see the screen shot below and then visit the EdSurge address shown. If you aren’t sure how EdSurge is tied to the CCSS Machine, visit the address to my article, as shown.

Before I leave the Acton co-founders, you need to know Mr. Sandefer is considered a note-worthy higher education critic.

For Those Warriors in Higher Education:

As far as ‘unbound higher education’, the Twitter account I referenced above has plenty of links you can access. Below, are just a few:

A Good Reads Review for ‘College (Un) Bound’ and modern education reform:

One note about the Big Picture Learning is they are set to have their 2016 Conference in July and are having Sir Ken Robinson as featured guest speaker. Robinson is up to his neck in modern education reform for a global society. Just conduct an internet search on him and you will find plenty. In the meantime, you can view his interview with Sir Michael Barber of Pearson Publishing:

For the last Higher Ed, ‘Unbounded’ resource, be sure to check out the on-line Journal which was featured in the Twitter feed screenshot. The website, https://unbound.upcea.edu/

(*Note: among the topics are alternative credentialing; workforce based learning.)

UPCEA is short for University Professional and Continuing Education Association. The UPCEA has not only created this brand new resource for anyone interested in higher education reform, but are among other Higher Education interested groups in helping steer the conversations (and in turn, influencing legislation) on the HEA (Higher Education Act). See the information, access the full press release: http://www.upcea.edu/content.asp?contentid=459

Fed Ed Budget for Teachers/Leaders

fedledteach

It is no secret how fed up most American teachers are with Common Core Standards. Now iron-clad bound by the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act).

What MORE CCS (aka: Competency Based Education, College and Career Readiness, or Challenging State Academic Standards) will they be subjected to? What about the other school leaders (principals, superintendents, school board members)? Will, they to, now be dancing with ESSA puppet strings? You bet!
How many of our tax dollars with be used to set the music? Plenty!
Today’s focus: the President’s Education funding requests built into the Fiscal Year 2017 Federal Budget. Why talk about it now so early in 2016? The Budget has just been released and needs Congress’s rubber stamp!

Lead On, Oh ‘Mighty Feds’:

In case you missed the preceding article where I detailed the CCSS Machine’s grasp on the ESSA and how it impacts students, schools, families, and communities, see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/02/11/fed-ed-2017-are-you-ready/

Knowing the agenda BEHIND the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) is one of ‘cradle to grave’ AND will include every citizen, we know that teachers and leaders in our schools will NOT be exempt from aligning to whatever name the CCSS Machine slaps on their educational standards.

Like yesterday’s article, you will get a summary of the main ways in which this alignment will either continue or begin.

Oh, and one technicality, ‘Mighty Feds’: ESSA, like CCSS, is illegally based and thus is Constitutionally prohibited! Asking money to back all this ‘conducting’, is quite egregious.

ESSA’s ‘Sheet Music’:

To see the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s blog article about the Education Budget requests for teachers/leaders, see: http://blog.ed.gov/2016/02/the-presidents-fiscal-year-2017-budget-request-supporting-teachers-and-school-leaders-for-student-success-3/

To see the hidden CCSS Machine ‘notes and strings’ is where we will spend the bulk of this article.

The article begins with a pretty big erroneous statement about how the ESSA passage will continue the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) and its civil rights legacy. I guess the U.S. Dept. of Ed totally overlooking the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) as a continuation of the ESEA, is no big deal. Without NCLB, there would not of been the RttT (Race to the Top) which saddled all of us with CCSS in one form or another! Be sure you read the next part about what research proves and every parent understands “the most important school-based factor impacting a child’s academic success is the quality of the classroom teacher..”
No, it isn’t, U.S. Dept. of Ed! As a retired private educator I know for a FACT that the teacher IS important, but she/he is certainly NOT the MOST important factor in education. There is MUCH more that goes into a student’s academic success. I will add, as I have heard from parents and teachers across the nation that they not only understand this, but KNOW it! So, how will the federal government apply even more pressure to perform on our teachers/school leaders? Let’s see:

1) ‘RESPECT: The Best Job in the World’, a new billion dollar program in MANDATORY funding. What is this ‘new’ program? From the 2017 Federal Budget Fact Sheet:
“Helping ensure equitable access to effective teachers and school leaders for low-income and minority students in high-need schools by investing $1 billion in mandatory funds for the new RESPECT: Best Job in the World program to support a nationwide effort to attract and retain effective teachers in high-need schools, and $2.8 billion in discretionary funding to support teachers and principals at every phase of their careers.” Page 5 of the 7 Pages of Facts points out this billion dollars is a one time investment and implies the program is an update of an older version. I found the older version, as well as what ‘RESPECT’ stands for. From the Federal Budget 2015 Justifications document, “Recognizing Education Success, Professional Excellence, and Collaborative Teaching (RESPECT) Project”. See the dollar amount below in the screen shot:
fedledteach15

2) Ten million taxpayer dollars will go to to ‘Teach to Lead’, a most definite collection of CCSS Machine members support this program. Visual proof below is directly from their website (http://teachtolead.org/) You can click on the picture to enlarge it, if needed.
teachleadccss

My look into the ‘Teach to Lead’ article and what, you the anti CCSS Warrior needs to know about them (in case you are not familiar with them): https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/03/16/monday-musings-leadingteaching-duncan-style/

3) A proposed ‘Teacher/Principal Pathways’ program is also included in the 2017 taxpayer funded Federal budget. The cost? It isn’t spelled out in the Ed’s blog, but I did find a dollar amount in the Fact Sheet. There it states, $125 million. Here is the excerpt, “$125 million for the proposed Teacher and Principal Pathways program for grants to institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations, working closely with school districts, to create or expand high-quality pathways into the teaching profession, particularly into high-needs schools and high-need subjects such as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).”
I have repeatedly shown proof as to HOW STEM is a federal led program to create a STEM nation filled with STEM citizens who have STEM jobs and HOW the CCSS was the best way to embed this. Here is JUST one of my anti CCSS Warrior, need-to-know, articles where you can learn this fact AND more! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/29/tech-thursday-stemccss-push-making-it-american/

As an example of what the new proposed program may contain, see how Louisiana started their program for teacher and principal pathways from their RttT funds (2012), see: http://sites.ed.gov/progress/category/teacher-and-leader-preparation-and-pathways/

4) Supposedly saving students ,who decide to teach, big bucks (‘up to $25,000’) is a built in forgiveness clause in the 2017 Budget Request. Sad truth of it all is, the forgiving won’t apply until 2021 and as one teacher who left a comment on the Blog stated, she can’t qualify because she already consolidated her student debt load in 1994! From the Fact Sheet, “A streamlined and expanded initiative to provide up to $25,000 in student loan forgiveness for teachers graduating from an effective preparation program who serve in low income schools, starting in 2021. This proposal would consolidate various post-secondary assistance options available for teachers, such as TEACH grants and the current teacher loan forgiveness program, into a single loan forgiveness program in which the benefit increases over time as teachers stay in high-needs schools.”

5) ‘Teacher and School Leader Incentive Grants’ will receive a whopping $250 million dollars. As an anti CCSS Warrior, you need to know what they will be getting for their money. From the Ed Blog, “support efforts to develop, implement, or expand human capital management systems or performance-based compensation systems in schools.” Why? From the Budget Fact Sheet, attract, develop and retain talented, committed, and accomplished teachers in high-need schools.”

6) “Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED)”, will get $100 million. Being sold as a way to help teachers become better teachers, this money will go to “nonprofits (who) can provide evidence-based professional development activities, as well as prepare teachers and principals to serve in traditionally under-served school districts.” Below is the screen shot of the 2015 SEED grantees.

For the last look at the proposed (after all, Congress hasn’t approved all this yet) 2017 Federal Education Budget Request, the focus will be the overreach into post-secondary education and how the ESSA is involved.

FTF Tuesday: Comprehending Assessments

You won't believe the document I have found for your files for today's post. Be sure to read on!
You won’t believe the document I have found for your files for today’s post. Be sure to read on!

As always, on Tuesdays, you anti CCSS warriors are treated to those files, documents, and links I’ve been able to uncover that continue to point to the underbelly of the CCSS Machine. Today’s is a doozy!

“Pathways to College On-Line Library”:

Website: http://www.pathwaylibrary.org/

The file from their archives today has an interesting note at the bottom you have to see, “The above resource was included in the Pathways to College Online Library prior to the involvement of the American Institutes for Research (AIR), and thus has not been fully reviewed by AIR. Appearance in the database does not equate with endorsement by AIR or its affiliates.”

Why AIR’s stamp of approval is a big deal:

For the rhetoric of the Career Pathway/Common Core Standards to succeed, pro-CCSS groups, like AIR are needed to ‘approve’ all kinds of things. If you aren’t aware of how AIR is tied to CCSS, see: http://www.smarterbalanced.org/news/smarter-balanced-awards-test-delivery-system-contract-to-american-institutes-for-research/ (this is just ONE of the many ways AIR is tied to CCSS..assessments)

Back to the File:

The file’s original backer: Alliance for Excellent Education (http://all4ed.org/)

The file’s name? “Principles for a Comprehensive Assessment System”, published 2010.

A current Alliance for Excellent Education webpage.
A current Alliance for Excellent Education webpage.

Why the CP Library loves this document:

In their own words, “The United States is poised to make the most dramatic advance in assessment in decades. A state-led effort to develop common core standards in literacy and mathematics is defining what it means to be ready for colleges and careers, and this effort will invariably heighten the demand for assessments that measure a broader range of knowledge and skills and open the door for common assessment components across states. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Education is providing $350 million for consortia of states to develop new assessments that measure the common core standards. And a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) will set guidelines for assessments and their use for years to come. This opportunity could not be more timely.”

Looking back, we know the big bucks mentioned here refer to the PARCC and SBAC assessments. We know we’ve been fighting them. We know many researchers, myself among them, have given you wonderful ‘ammo’ to use against the assessments which are so high stakes.

Will we find any new ammo, in a 5 year, old document? Let’s see!!

1) The “Need” for MORE sophisticated assessing is addressed. See this excerpt, “In large part, this situation results from the fact that the primary means of assessment being used in the nation’s schools—state tests administered at the end of the school year—are not up to the job. For many reasons, these tests cannot measure the full range of competencies students are expected to demonstrate and provide at best a blurry snapshot of student and school performance. Yet they are expected to inform students and parents about academic progress, teachers about what to do to improve instruction, community members about school success, and states and the nation about whether students and schools are meeting goals. These expectations, all important, are more than any assessment—even the most sophisticated—can bear. This brief suggests the principles upon which the federal government and states should base their work in fashioning new assessments.

2) Giving Horace Mann’s way of schooling the thumbs up is heralded as a ‘right’ to continue high stakes assessing. See this excerpt, “Since Horace Mann administered tests of student performance in Massachusetts in 1840, assessments have played multiple roles in American education. As Mann did, states and districts continue to administer tests to inform the public about the state of student achievement and to hold schools accountable for meeting achievement goals.”

3) Using CCSS as a wheel..what a horrid example. See this excerpt, “A new assessment system would redesign the summative tests used for accountability purposes and embed them in a comprehensive and coherent system in which curriculum, instruction, and assessment are intertwined. Think of the system as a wheel—at the hub are the common core standards, and the spokes include summative assessments, formative assessments, curriculum tasks, instructional tools, and professional development.

4) The Principles Supposedly Upheld via the summative and formative assessing, curriculum tasks, etc.

a) cohesion (are we talking people or machines, here?)
b) comprehension (one of the most under-served parts of education to date via CCSS)

c) accurate (are you serious?)

d) credible (anyone care to acknowledge that by breaking the 3 education federal laws AND the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that there is NO credibility available?)

e) fairness (only to the profiting companies)

f) matching learning goals (can anyone who created the CCSS machine even spell ‘inappropriate developmentally’?)

g) clarity for reports (can’t have data mining without some clear guidelines)

h) technology in the classroom (yes, we have to be digital at all costs, can’t be tracked if we don’t)

i) engaging teachers (yes, that’s right they’re SO  engaged, they are leaving their beloved profession in record numbers)

*NOTE, when you access each of the above principles, be sure to notice the international countries used as successful models.

The Fed’s Role a Bit More Defined:

With the 2015 Sen. Alexander bill up for consideration, this section of the 2010 Report sounds like someone was seriously into copying, pasting goals. I’ve read the entire Alexander bill and some of what I’ve read in this Report is eerily close in rhetoric.

Excerpts you’ll want to know:

a) “Federal education policy over the past two decades has played a dominant role in shaping state assessment systems.”

b) “The pending reauthorization of the ESEA offers an opportunity for the federal government to reshape testing practice yet again… shift the ESEA to focus on college and career readiness, which will require new assessments to measure student progress toward that goal. To help ensure the development of comprehensive, coherent assessment systems that support student learning toward standards for college and career readiness.”

How the above is to be accomplished via assessments per the Fed’s role in education:
1) requiring all assessments to include the CCR (College/Career Readiness) factor.

2) requiring curricula to be aligned to catch and measure what assessments can’t in regards to CCR.

3) requiring teachers to be as assessed as the students.

4) requiring no student to NOT be assessed.

5) requiring states to participate in skewed reports (NAEP, etc.)

6) using money to implicate the states in participation

7) create MORE education research

Is this your vision of 'excellent education'? It's not mine!
Is this your vision of ‘excellent education’? It’s not mine!

(please note, the year should read 2010, NOT 2009 in the above graphic)

The Report:

Anti CCSS warriors, we know that the updated ESEA/NCLB bill is set to be voted on soon. While public comments may be closed, we still can make noise. Use the above information, contrast it to the newer version (which encompasses MORE than assessing).
