Congress Loves CTE

congresscteAnti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, it’s one thing that Congress is in its recess right now, but have you seen what they did just before leaving D.C.?  Look above. Both of these, HR5587 AND S3271 made their debut in July 2016.

If you have followed my research and writing for long, you know that one of my specialties is ‘Common Core’ after high school, regardless of where the PreK through High School is completed.

If you haven’t followed me long, then you haven’t seen how, in the fall of 2014, I exposed the Adult Common Core State Standards, or how, I exposed how the Career and Technical Education was changed to Career Tech Education. You haven’t seen where I tied Career Clusters, Career Pathways, The American Apprenticeship Initiative, STEM, and STEM to STEAM, back to Common Core. To keep the focus on what is current, I will not be sharing the links to each of these juggernauts. However, if you need the information, please, let me know.

The Purposed Legislative Scramble ( more background before we tackle the ‘latest’ news):

In one of my articles published not long after the ink was dry on ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), I told you the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) was embedded in ESSA about 65 times. WIOA is also linked to HEA (Higher Education Act) via the Carl Perkins funding.

WIOA also ties back to the American Apprenticeships and STEM (along with the STEM to STEAM). ESSA has STEM embedded too. Most citizens have been shocked when I share with them that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; the ‘a’ was added later and embedded the Arts in STEM to create STEAM) is NOT separate from CCSS (Common Core State Standards) but is in fact a product of the interaction between the PCAST (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology) and the President USING CCSS as a detractor from what was really happening! Just as CCSS is no friend to education reform, the way STEM has been rolled out, is not a friend either. Why? The goal of STEM is not education, but a ‘workforce nation’. Does this sound familiar?!

Think of it this way:

workforcenochoice
Warriors, there has been NO mistake about the workforce shift. There has been no law related (in any way, shape, form, or fashion) to education without it. These have been  carefully plotted moves in the making for YEARS. As other researchers have also shown you, the movement is global, not exclusive to America.

So, it shouldn’t really be a surprise to find our Congress creating MORE legislation along the streamlined workforce path already in place.

What’s a Warrior to do?! Speak up to your Congress members. Especially if they are sponsoring either HR5587 or S3271. Spread the knowledge, many citizens in America are convinced that CCSS (and now ESSA) is ONLY K-12 and in traditional type schools. THIS IS A LIE, regardless who tells you!

ESSA has birth to first grade readiness, special needs alignment, dual and concurrent enrollment, AP or IB classes/courses, and every conceivable education choice ensnared. Either through the digital assessments (to take place inside and outside the home), funding (not just education funds, but health/human services, labor, commerce, etc.), FASFA forms, and/or wrap around services for entire communities.  ESSA is written to conform, not to free States.

HR 5587, Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act:

Link to the Press Release: http://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=400923

Here’s what we need to know as Warriors Against Fed Led Ed:
1) Being championed as a ‘bipartisan’ piece of great legislation, 5587, passed the Ed and Workforce (U.S. House of Representatives) by a vote of 37-0.
2) 5587 was introduced by Rep. Thompson of PA and Rep. Clark from MA.
3) Press release is dated July 2016, Congress is in recess until early September.
4) The purpose of 5587? “reauthorizes and reforms the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to help more Americans enter the workforce with the skills they need to compete for high-skilled, in-demand jobs.”
5) Be sure to read the other Representatives who are featured in the Press Release. Take note of Rep. Kline’s. He was a huge backer of ESSA before it was called ESSA. Speaking of such, remember when you step into the voting booths in November that the House of Representative’s education bill (HR5) went on to become key in ESSA’s language. Also remember the voting record of HR5..it had not a single “No” vote.
6) You will also see several bullet points about the great flexibility States will have to streamline work and education (there is even a shameless plug for how it will help taxpayers). As we have proven with ESSA, State and local flexibility is not true.
7) 5587 is 88 pages long. It takes effect 7/1/17. Subtle shifts in language (just as in ESSA) pack a powerful punch. How so? See for yourselves, “(A) by striking ‘‘academic and career and  technical skills’’ and inserting ‘‘academic knowledge and technical and employability skills’’; (B) by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’  after ‘‘technical education programs’’;  (2) in paragraph (3), by striking ‘‘, including  tech prep education’’;  (3) in paragraph (4), by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’ after ‘‘technical education programs’’; and  5  (4) in paragraph (6), by inserting ‘‘or programs’’ after ‘‘education schools’’ ”
8) You’ll also see other big shifts in the language, like ‘in demand’ occupations, regionally based education, competency based education, etc.

(*Note: I will be doing a more in-depth article about 5587 in the near future, as I will with
S3271)

S3271, Workforce Advance Act:

The Press Release from Sen. Bennet (CO)‘s website: https://www.bennet.senate.gov/?p=release&id=3742
Again, bipartisanship is being heralded.
Again, ‘more choice’ in learning (a very false positive statement). See how Sen. Bennet’s website stated it, give more high school students the opportunity to take career and technical education college courses that can help prepare them for success in the 21st century. The Workforce Advance Act will help strengthen and expand dual and concurrent enrollment and early college high school options as part of Perkins-supported career technical education (CTE) programs. Strong CTE programs can provide vital access to the knowledge and skills needed for job and career success.”

But that’s not all S3271 will do. Check out what teachers have to look forward to, “The bill would allow schools to use a portion of the funding they receive through the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act for tuition and fees for CTE college courses. It would also allow school districts to use funding to support teachers pursuing the credentials needed to teach these courses in their high schools, helping to remove a barrier to providing access to college credit. Finally, the bill would allow the Department of Education to use national CTE activities to help identify successful methods and best practices for providing dual or concurrent enrollment programs and early college high school career and technical education opportunities.”

Warriors, ‘region specific education’ is already written into ESSA. Teachers being trained to teach post-secondary readiness (for college and career) is already written into ESSA! ‘National activities’ and CTE activities’ are also already written into ESSA!

Other tentacles of WIOA, HEA, STEM, and ESSA in S3271:
1) apprenticeships
2) public-private partnerships, especially in businesses
3) data mining and sharing of data between U.S. Dept. of Ed, U.S. Dept. of Labor, U.S. Commerce Dept., and all of these at the State levels, too.
4) more use of students as ‘lab rats’ for ‘evidence based research’.
5) how those in rural areas will be encompassed
6) special needs tracks for CTE will also increase

See the S3271https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/3271/text
Presently, the U.S. Senate’s HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee has S3271. This is also the same group headed by Sen. Lamar Alexander. HELP is also charged with checking up on how ESSA is progressing.

Where did the backbone for S3271 come from? According to the Senate’s supporting documents for S3271, the State Directors for CTE  and the Assoc. for CTE created a document of principles for S3271. See: Senate Principles Crosswalk_FINAL

What you see below is the evidence to verify what my research has already shown,
1) that WIOA is, in fact embedded in ESSA.
2) that school counselors (per a White House led Initiative) are to influence students
(related will be the counselors at the one-stop-job/career-centers where non traditional students and those seeking a job will be influenced)
3) that ANY school receiving Perkins funding will be impacted (this includes the proprietary (for profit) schools and virtual schools.

Reach out and contact a Congress member soon. If you Tweet, use any of the info above to create appropriate messages of dissent. If you have access to them in other social media, use whatever you need to make your points. Here is a list of the Congressional Twitter accounts: https://twitter.com/verified/lists/us-congress/members?lang=en

Can we stop Congress from passing these? I believe we can. Both have only been introduced. Both haven’t cleared their respective Chambers, much less crossed over. Neither has been signed into law yet. Let’s get busy, Warriors!

What you see below is from Dec. 2015, when Perkins Funding received an extension to continue funding across the nation for all those in CTE courses. It was signed just days after ESSA was passed into law.

The rope is tightening, Warriors, but we can break that rope with massive amounts of teamwork!

“Conformity Readiness”

conformready
Warriors Against the Core: In today’s “Tech Thursday” article, I will be taking an in-depth look at the ‘College and Career Readiness’ so interwoven in the ESSA. How does it connect to the Common Core? History, updates, resources, and much more information you need to know.

You recognize CCR, right? The College and Career Readiness that was to replace CCSS (Common Core State Standards), that was to be better than CCSS? That was to be one of the ways the ESSA(Every Student Succeeds Act) ditched the CCSS? Yeah, right..I we all have beach front homes in KS!

“Air Apparent”:

It is no secret how much a part of the CCSS Machine Air, Inc. is but in case you haven’t seen some of the latest CCR (College and Career Readiness) propaganda, you are in for a ‘treat’!
Before we continue our look at AIR, Inc. let’s take a step back in time to see the foundation for CCR (College and Career Readiness).

A Step Back:

One of the only truly apparent things about CCR is that they were woven into the RttT (Race to the Top) applications and waivers..right along WITH CCSS! Below (as an example) is what NC did with its RttT money for CCR:
NCCCR
Access the document: NCCCRRttTguide

From the blast of the past concerning the screen shot above, comes this excerpt that will help continue the point I am making today.
Career & College: Ready, Set, Go! is designed to mobilize all of these individuals and groups toward the goal of graduating all students from high school prepared for further education and successful employment. This high-level goal encompasses many smaller goals and objectives that will move North Carolina public schools forward. In their successful application for federal Race to the Top funding, state education leaders capitalized on the work that was already underway and received federal funding to help North Carolina move further and faster toward realizing Career & College: Ready, Set, Go! for every school district, every public school and every student.

Now, notice that “public schools” were stressed. Back when this was written, most school choices were not conforming to the CCR.
Fast forward to 2016..and every school choice, in some way or other is conforming to CCR!

This is NOT a NC specific problem, either, this is a nation-wide one. Before we move on, take one more look at this old NC document. Notice the SAT ties, the AP ties, the post-secondary aspects (community colleges and major 4 year universities). Notice the timeline. The 2016-17 school year is the LAST year before ESSA’s complete implementation is to take place. (Per the ESSA, everything must be in place no later than the 2017-18 school year.) Again, a nation-wide problem, not just a NC issue!

ccrcirca2010

So what do you think the rest of the States will do with the money coming down from D.C. with the CCR ties in the ESSA? If what the States did with RttT is an example, they will use it to continue breeding master conformers NOT citizens with free will! However, if your State didn’t get RttT funds, you still have the CCR..thanks to the CCSS Machine! All so conformity can be the end result of education for workforce needs.

Those Handy, Dandy Air, Inc. CCR Pocket Guides:

These are rather dated as well, the post I found was from 2013. Again, before the ESSA and its passage, but also another portion of the CCR foundation. It is here we will see the point in time when our States truly sold us out.

The Guides were created in a way to ‘help state and local policymakers and practitioners implement the college- and career-ready reforms included in the flexibility waivers approved by the U.S. Department of Education. In 2011, the Department of Education waived certain provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in exchange for reform plans related to four principles, including achieving college and career readiness.’  What were the other 3 reform plans? Revamping state waivers to adhere to CCR; how CCR would be defined; and using best practices to help shape the States for CCR. Air, Inc. just helped promote the CCR to the States (at that point, 35 in total). It was the ESEA Flexibility Waivers the States received to help them conform to CCR
FlexCCR

It is important to point out that the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) does contain a passage where it declares the ESEA Flexibility Waivers as expired. However, there are other passages where the CCR lives on without them. Go back and read those Flex Waivers, however.
Why? The ESSA gives MORE power to the SEAs(State Education Agencies) in alignment for CCR’s Outcome Based Education. ESSA also gives the Feds MORE power when it comes to approving any State’s education plan. The old Flex Waivers study by Air, Inc. will tell you the CCR was rapidly replacing the importance of high school graduation. Why? The economic impacts!
The CCR Pocket Guide (below); read it to also see the involvement of the NGA (National Governors Association), the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), the P21 (Partnership for 21st Century Skills) and how the embedding of CCR into the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) would bring about all this conformity!
To get the CCR Guide this information is from: CCR_Pocket_Guide_0

Warriors, did you catch that? CCR was embedded INTO the CCSS! Since the ESSA embraces CCR that means the CCSS will live on! ESSA does use the phrase Common Core State Standards Initiative(CCSSI) 4 times in its Final Conference Report (1,059 pages), which means it is ALSO in the 391 page ESSA Final Law!! (Pages 130 uses CCSSI in relation to standards states use and their assessments; 825 uses CCSSI in relation to State educational waivers; 843 uses CCSSI in relation to federal financial support to the States; and 859 in relation to not prohibiting the States from withdrawing from the CCSS.)

Warriors, ask yourselves this: How can you keep the Initiative without the Initiative’s Standards??

Air, Inc.’s 2015-16 CCR Resource Guide:

What is the most interesting about this guide (not available in pocket size) is that while it says College and Career Readiness Standards and Assessments, scroll through and see how many of the resources are in fact, Common Core State Standards and Assessments. Notice how many other CCSS Machine members you see! Get this Guide: College-and-Career-Readiness-Assessment-Resources-Winter-2015-16

‘New America’ Maps CCR:

This member of the CCSS Machine has a handy, dandy website where you can literally see a map of the USA in colors to denote just how CCR they truly are. To see it: http://atlas.newamerica.org/mapping-college-readiness

How I know they are a CCSS Machine member: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/wybi-new-america-ed-central-pre-k-to-high-pay/ (*Note: the biggest clue to The Atlas website and my article? Beside the name, the logo gives it away.)

ESSA’s CCR:

When you search for the exact phrase ‘college career readiness’ in the ESSA Final Report, you will receive nothing. However, shorten it to one word (in my search, I used ‘readiness’). I found the following page numbers which will tie up the point:
CCR is most definitely embedded in the ESSA! It isn’t going away!
*Be sure to note that these are summaries. How did the writers omit CCR as we know it? ‘Post-secondary readiness’ OR ‘career readiness’, but NOT ‘College and Career Readiness’!

Page 85, Page 324, Page 328, Page 340, Page 374, Page 439, Page 462, Page 482, Page 516, Page 597, Page 601, Page 611, Page 615, Pages 626/629, Page 631, Pages 677/684,
Page 695, Pages 723/724, Page 803, Page 884, and Page 951.

Warriors Against the Core, just because the writers and sponsors of ESSA performed ‘language foul play’ by not using the exact phrase “College and Career Readiness”, doesn’t mean CCR isn’t there..it is, in plain sight with words that mean the same thing!!

Other Handy, Dandy Pocket Guides from the Government:

Directly related to the ESSA (and the supposed return of state control/CCR improvements/ and more) I give you the U.S. House of Representative’s EdWorkforce Committee Pocket Guides.

http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/gop_principles.png

From the U.S. Senate’s HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) page, I searched for their take on CCR, the top resource? A group of supportive statements for the ESSA’s passage into law, where CCR was mentioned by several. See: http://www.help.senate.gov/ranking/newsroom/press/widespread-support-for-every-student-succeeds-act
To see their pdf documents for ‘CCR in Practice’:

Also of note from the HELP website is a document they have in their archives titled
This undated document is from the WV Dept. of Education and its addressing of the (then) newly released, voluntary CCSS.
Why do I bring this up? The search I conducted was for ‘College Career Readiness’, the description HELP has this document labeled with is that the NGA and the CCSSO published the CCR Standards(see the screen shot). Do you see the connection? The NGA and CCSO did publish Standards, but they were the CCSS, this document serves as proof the CCS AND the CCR are one and the same!

HELPWVPaine

Here’s the most CCR excerpt I could find from the document, “Lastly, the common standards are aligned with college and work expectations. By preparing all students to be both college and career ready, all students are able compete in their post-secondary education and/or career choice. Preparing all students to be college and career is absolutely critical to the long-term success of the country. By providing a set of expectations that are clear to students, parents and educators about what it takes to be college and career ready, the states have taken a major step forward in producing students who are ready for later success.” To access the entire document: Paine1

There you have it Anti CCSS Warriors, the story of the CCR, CCSS, ESSA, and conformity in excess. We have much information to share, many more battles to fight, so let’s get busy!

School Board Special, Part Two

belike

Welcome to Part Two of my series devoted to those running for elections, especially the school board positions across America. Like this Weekend’s article, it is lengthy, but you MUST know this information! Your schools depend on it.

Running for school board jobs ARE so much MORE important than they get credit for. In case you didn’t get the Part One of this series, here is the link: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/01/23/the-school-board-special-part-one/ (*Note: In Part One, I have provided both the links to the ESSA Final Conference Report as well as the Final Law Version, as a candidate, you need both!)

Kindergarten to 12th Grade:

Of all the grade groups Common Core Standards have impacted, the K-12th group has been the most talked about, the most publicized. If you have followed my blog long enough OR heard any of my speeches, chats, or interviews, you know that I have purposed to expose the CCSS Machine in all the other areas and educational choices. However, I have plenty to share with you concerning the K-12th grade group, too. For example, if you are seeking office, did you know there was an initiative which set CCSS into motion? (and which the ESSA will continue?!) For starters, see the picture below of the track  Pre-K-12th graders are experiencing thanks to Common Core State Standards Initiative!

PipelineR10
Here’s the CCSS pipeline. The NGA(National Governors Association) and the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers) have ensured our students are put through this.

The CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative):

What do I mean by the CCSS Initiative? Simply put it refers to the entire scope of not only the CCS Standards, but the agenda which accompanies it; the resources (including curriculum and assessments); and ANYTHING else connected to the Common Core.

As a candidate, you need to know that there is a real CCSSI, not just a set of educational Standards known simply as Common Core State Standards. If you would like to learn all you can about the CCSSI, please see Donna Gardner’s credible work. She was there in the U.S. Dept. of Education years ago, and has been witness to the CCSS Machine’s roots.
See: (Part One)
http://cityonahill.squarespace.com/city-on-a-hill-blogs/2010/8/28/common-core-standards-parents-need-to-ask-why-is-there-no-de.html
Part Two:
 http://cityonahill.squarespace.com/city-on-a-hill-blogs/2010/9/4/nationalizing-or-federalizing-education-ccsi-the-inside-stor.html
(*Note: Part Three’s link was broken, as of this writing)

As many anti CCSS Warriors have stated since the ESSA’s passage, we have been lied to about this! As a candidate of any race where education will be impacted, this is probably the single MOST important information you can glean from this series!! Do not simply take the mass media or Congress’s word for it, we ARE NOT free from the Common Core State Standards Initiative!

The only references I have found to the CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative) in the ESSA Final Conference Report (that over 1,000 page bill no one in Congress appears to have bothered to read) were located on page 130 (pertaining to standards and assessments), page 825 (pertaining to educational waivers), page 843 (pertaining to financial support from the federal government and how its officials/representatives are limited), page 859 (‘‘(a) IN GENERAL.—Nothing in this Act shall be construed to prohibit a State from withdrawing from the Common Core State Standards or from otherwise revising their standards.”)

Now, if you only stop there, as both the U.S. Congress and the mass media did, you can say this language means exactly what it says, that the States were no longer tied to the Common Core!

Candidates, think of it this way, “Whatever happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.” Educational federal law plays the same game, whatever started in the ESEA was carried over each time to some degree or another until the ESSA. ESSA, however, makes the previous versions look like a powder puff.

Alphabet Soup,  D.C. Style:

Before we ‘dig in’ to the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015) to learn how it will continue the Initiative behind Common Core:
1) Know that the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) got replaced with ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) in between these two? NCLB (No Child Left Behind) followed by the RttT Initiative (Race to the Top).
2) Know that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), STEM to STEAM (same as STEM with the Arts added in), WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014), CTE (Career Tech Education), CP (Career Pathways) are also woven into the ESSA Law. (*Note: If you did not know that STEM is part of the Presidential agenda for education, I urge you to read one of my very first blog articles where the Report detailing HOW STEM was the among the ultimate goals of aligning America via the CCSS! See:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/02/from-the-files-pcast-stem-and-common-core/)

Maybe you've heard of STEM, but have you heard about STEM to STEaM?

Why you, as a candidate, need to know this? STEM is a huge selling point among the States for not only education, but for a workforce. STEM is also woven into the WIOA of 2014!

As a candidate, knowing which alphabet soup acronym stands for which one is important.

One more game D.C. has played with us about all this? The ESSA’s Final Conference Report has been reduced to a mere 391 page law! You will find all of the same points from the Report embedded in the Law, just not as wordy. We need the entire context so we can know how we are being duped into the lie that CCSS will no longer be a player in American Education! You can access both documents in Part One of this series.

From the ESSA Language Itself:

One thing you can count on is this, the shift in name from Common Core State Standards to College and Career Readiness as well as Challenging State Academic Standards, is about the only shifting there will be, as far as names.

You have to look harder at the Law. As evidence look on Pages 5 & 6. Here the tricky language begins. It’s context is about what programs will continue to receive multi-year funding and which won’t

(As a candidate, you need to know which programs in your school districts receive multi year funding and were provided for under the old ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965), NCLB, RttT, you need to read this passage so you can understand how the ESSA will continue select programs.)

Why this is important: it is to cover the TRANSITION from one law to another!

Speaking of transitions, look at Page 7 where you will see what the Secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Education is in charge of in regards to the States!
“ORDERLY TRANSITION.—Subject to subsection (a)(1)(A)(i), the Secretary shall take such steps as are necessary to provide for the orderly transition to, and implementation of, programs authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 6301 et. seq.), as amended by this Act, from programs  authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 6301 et seq.), as in effect on the day before the date of enactment of this Act.”

Pages which follow this excerpt lay out the dates for the transitioning to begin. As early as July 1, 2016, folks!

Other Pages and Sections, You as the Candidate MUST Research:

Section 6, embeds all of the old ESEA into the new Law.

Section 1002, gives a grand total of the federal money to be awarded among the 50 States for the next few fiscal years. You, as the candidate, need to see the amounts, as well as the strings attached (ie: assessments).

Section 1003 details the strings attached to Section 1002.

Section 1004 details all the ‘Direct Student Services’. As part of the ‘Services’, this is where you can see the WIOA and CTE begin to appear for elementary and secondary students. It is here you will see the AP(Advanced Placement) Courses and IB (International Baccalaureate) students encompassed.
How will this make a difference in your candidacy? The amount of funding your State receives and the hoops the LEAs (local education agencies) are to use the funding. Not only that, but jobs mean money for your States. The economic health of America has been a huge selling point from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (courtesy of Bill Gates Foundation) and has been passed on to each State via the Chambers of Commerce. You will also see that in this Section, parents and higher education are also included in the alignment mix.

Section 4107 details for you what is meant by “Activities To Support a Well-Rounded Student”.  As a candidate, you need to know this is where the P3s (public private partnerships) will have an increased presence in the classroom, where communities are expected to align and help educate all students, and more! As part of the ‘Activities’, this is where you will see STEM really focused on.

Section 4108 details all the ‘Activities to Support Safe and Healthy Students’ your state must have (includes sex ed, behavior management, assessments, mental services, and so much more) As a candidate, read page 447 very carefully, as well as the immediate pages around it.

Section 4109 goes into all the digital and technology strings for education. This is a huge point of every school district and state budget. Read it, candidates!

Section 8005 State funding for elementary/secondary administration consolidation plans. (Remember, candidates, follow the money trail from the top down)
Section 8201 goes into more detail about money States receive from the federal government.

Page 489 begins the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. As a candidate, you need to know this is going to totally transform not only your local schools, but your communities. This Initiative is a huge part of the CCSS Machine! It has roots in not only the White House, but a entity called the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. If you do not know about this, PLEASE contact me, I will be happy to provide the information you really need to know!

Page 905 states what the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Secretary will oversee in each of the 50 States concerning the homeless students.

Page 910 gives you the requirements each State must meet per the U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary for every grant and sub-grant the States receive.

Page 911 details the assurances States must provide the U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary with each year.

Page 919 introduces the phrase “Ed Flex Partnership State” and will be given to every State meeting the U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary’s conditions. As a candidate, you need to read what those parameters mean.I urge you to read from page 919 to 941 so you can see how private schools are included. Of special note to you will be page 937 where the general public is to be informed of any State educational application for waivers (means money for your State and local districts). Also, page 938 points to a bridge (if you will) between elementary and secondary education to post-secondary education via Perkins funding.

Closing:

Candidates, is there more that will impact your K-12th graders? ABSOLUTELY! Will it be only the public schools hit by this? NO! Run your race with integrity, with truth, and with everything you can to kill the CCSSI!
Part Three will address the post-secondary alignment of education according to the CCSS Machine.

The Morning After: CCSS Lives On

While this cartoon was depicted a U.S. Congress run by monopolists, it can easily resemble the 'CCSS Machine' running education.
While this cartoon  depicted a U.S. Congress run by monopolists, it can easily resemble the ‘CCSS Machine’ running education.

Anti CCSS Warriors, it has been said that there is nothing new in life. Last night we saw our U.S. Congress commit an old tactic: a tyrannical treason. By the lack of backbone, our elected officials chose to let CCSS live on! They chose to let data mining of our students live on, the assessments which judge our students and teachers unfairly will survive as well. The lie of control being giving back to the states will also live on! Much like the old picture above of a monopoly run Congress, we are witnessing in modern times a Congress run by the P3s(public/private partnerships) of CCSS, NOT the citizens.

Our educational reform being handled so illegally (consider the U.S. Constitution’s parameters for a ‘we the people’ government), so rushed, so without due diligence is the worst example of leadership I have ever seen. It certainly is the worst Christmas present Congress could give America!

In spite of all this, the problems of the CCSS (social emotional learning, aligned communities, cradle to grave education reform, etc.) and all its other names (CTE, Career Tech Education, STEM, Next Generation Science, Career Pathways, etc.) will not be what is brought up by the spin doctors. What will be is how great the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is. You’ll probably hear Congress members brag on how they are true education champions for ending NCLB (No Child Left Behind). In my researched opinion, not one Congress member needs to gloat about any of it. Why? THEY DIDN’T READ the BILL! They rubber stamped the Bill! They ignored the citizens completely. Yes, there were 64 who voted ‘no’. They do deserve a check mark for saying ‘no’. However, will they continue to say ‘no’ when all the parts of ESSA are enacted in real time? Will they say ‘no’ when the re-authorization of the HEA (Higher Education Act) comes up for votes? After all, Sen. Alexander is overseeing that re-write, too!

Because the House of Representatives voted by a landslide to let a horrible education reform become law doesn’t mean it is one YET. The Senate must still vote on it (yesterday they elected to wait a week or two for that move). Then, it hits the President’s desk. During some of the ‘down’ time yesterday, one media source speculated all this could be signed into law BEFORE Christmas.

We still have time to fight.

Even if the worst happens, we still need to fight on! Why? As I stated previously, there’s nothing new in life. So, just like a ‘puppet Congress’ has happened before, so has an ‘opposed society’. We ARE those oppressed. Our students, teachers, school staff members will become even more oppressed! Our state legislators will be hog tied to ESSA, too!

According to the language of the ESSA, the states will have to answer to the federal government even more so! The freedoms of choosing your child’s educational choice will be taken away, you’ll see your community become aligned to resemble the stuff of science fiction. Am I making any of this up? Oh, no. I’ve read portions of the ESSA, I’ve done research on the push for national standards (and all that goes with it since 2009). I’ve considered the documented evidence provided by a network of dedicated group of everyday citizens showing how all of the above is about to happen in real time.

As I listened to some of the live proceedings yesterday, I heard Representatives chatter on about ‘new Common Core Standards’; how the media had reported it right when they said ESSA is better than ESEA; how our society would have a work ready student base; how local communities would be the biggest reaper of all this educational reform. The sad part, these spineless members actually believe what they are saying! The even sadder part, they will NOT be around to see your students, your teachers, your school officials put all this alignment into action! BUT, we will be! What will we do?!

We MUST remain our students champions! We must be even more aware of what is written in the ESSA so we can be one step ahead. When a portion of the ESSA is enacted where more power is given to our LEAs (Local educational agencies) we MUST know HOW that power is to be used (I can tell you much of it appears to be directed toward parents). When the 21st Century Community Learning Centers come to your town, you MUST know exactly what they will be joining the community together with. When the mental health components (which will impact every student), we MUST know how to block them! There is SO much work we have to do to not only champion education, but to protect our citizens! Even if you don’t have a student ‘in the system’, your tax dollars are being used to make all this (and more) happen! Think of it as ‘taxation with zero citizen input’.

In the coming days, I’ll share with you my evidence from not only the ESSA, but some of my previously published articles (containing documents and other evidence) of how the ESSA has WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) ties, how it aligns post-secondary education to K-12th grade, how state funding formulas will dictate it all, and more.

Before I close for today, one of my fellow anti CCSS Warriors had an idea that Congress should, in the future, be made to sign a form stating the legislation they are voting on has been duly read, considered, and had adequate citizen feedback on. From a personal standpoint, I like that idea very much. It would mean we’ve not see a rushed hack job of a bad bill survive past the trash bin.

Make no mistake Warriors Against the Core, ESSA is a recycling ‘masterpiece’, NOT a better bill for America. If we truly want ‘better’ for our next generations of children, we will have to fight for it!

Take heart, my dear Warriors, we aren’t done yet. It’s tough, but we’re tougher. The battles we still have left to fight need our total commitment. We are strong, we are the champions of our children.

CCSS Machine’s Education Fast Track

Congress appears to be hell bent to ruin education.
Congress appears to be hell bent to ruin education.

Anti CCSS Warriors, our time is upon us! In spite of all that we’ve uncovered that is WRONG with the illegally based education reform; where Common Core is the conductor; we are seeing our federal level officials board the fast tracking train to educational ruin! The train’s name? “Every Student Succeeds Act”, or in other words, it is the re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act).

The CCSS Machine, as I call it, has loaded this train with all kinds of luggage (fallacies, media spins that purport the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) will restore the states authority, lessen the role of federal overreach, and other such fodder).
In spite of how full of coal this train is, we have seen proof provided by anti CCSS Warriors which has proven the derailment we are headed for is not only massive, but will alter American life as we know it. Do the passengers aboard this train (the federal level officials) seem to notice? Do they appear to care? From the news we have been hearing since just before Thanksgiving, those on board seem to be suffering from tunnel vision, loss of hearing the citizens (or the truth) How do I know this? Look at the short summary of ‘successes’ the U.S. Committee on Education and the Workforce churned out on 11/23/15: http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/joint_esea_conference_framework_short_summary.pdf
The media ‘spin doctor’ job can be seen here: http://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=399849

Truth in American Education had this feature you may want to consider that shows the latest from 11/23/15 as well. http://truthinamericaneducation.com/elementary-and-secondary-education-act/late-stage-draft-of-esea-reauthorization-bill/
The ‘fuel’  for this bill is the language, fellow Warriors. As we have learned by now the CCSS Machine thrives on double speak. They use one term which sounds like it is a great move for education, but when the real truth is uncovered, it is anything but ‘great’! For example, in the language featured on the TAE website, the title “21st Century Schools” can be seen.
Warriors Against Common Core, how many times have you read the documented proof of what those 21st Century Schools are doing to our students?! I have shared with you MANY articles with evidence of how these are CCSS wolves in sheep’s clothing! Yet, the fast tracking train has them on board!!

So, It is Our Time!:

Women on the Wall has challenged us to record a short video message to Congress!
PJNET has set up Twitter rallies for 11/29 and 11/30! Why? The vote is set to be as early as 12/2/15!! Many of the anti CCSS Warriors behind these battle cries have urged for a NO vote to the ESSA. Why? As we have seen with other mammoth sized, rushed bills from D.C., time needs to be taken, vetting needs to happen to the language, and many other legal moves. Why rush the train of education reform? There is everything to lose, America!!

Weekend News: The State of CCSS’s SEL

During this busy time, anti CCSS Warriors, we have much distracting us in this War Against the Core (Common Core, that is). For today’s “Tech Thursday”, I’d like to draw your attention to the Gates Foundation funded ASCD (Association for Supervision of Curriculum Development) and their push for SEL (Social Emotional Learning). SEL is a HUGE part of the CCSS Machine’s effort to indoctrinate our students, teachers, school leaders, and, legislators.
We MUST know all that we can about the legislative moves in each of our states to truly combat this portion of the CCSS!

Why is SEL such a big deal? Consider this:
Our emotions were created in us to help us express ourselves. We are to rule them, NOT have them rule us. However, when you take the agenda behind the CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative), you find the gist is to alter our emotions and MOLD them to fit the social issues (ie: social justice). This is a dangerous goal, anti CCSS Warriors. When you alter the mind in any way to fit someone or something else’s agenda, you are no longer your own person living your life as you see fit. You become a easily manageable cog in the CCSS Machine’s parts. So what is SEL? It stands for social, emotional learning. In short, it is everything connected t our attitudes, values, beliefs, and how we use them. Common Core has already proven out in many ways just how it is purposefully manipulating subjects taught, so imagine what it is doing to our minds?

Enter the ASCD:

On 11/18/15T, ASCD helped host a SEL webinar. The same day the hearings to continue re-authorizing the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) began. If you’ve not been made aware of it, SEL is a HUGE portion of the combined bills (HR5 and S1177; Student Success Act and Every Child Achieves Act) that are to replace the ‘outdated’ ESEA!
What group was also hosting this webinar? The Rennie Center. Have you heard of them, anti CCSS Warriors? You should get to know this Center, if you haven’t.
Before we move on to the Rennie Center, I want to leave you with one quote from the ASCD’s author Mike Anderson,The Common Core State Standards give us a golden opportunity to teach social-emotional skills and academic skills together.” Want to see more of what he wrote about CCSS and SEL lessons?

“Here are just a few examples of connections between the Common Core standards and the five core social and emotional competencies outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL):

Self-Awareness

  • Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary. (Reading/Foundational Skills/Grade 5)
  • Introduce a topic or text clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are logically grouped to support the writer’s purpose. (Writing/Grade 5)

Self-Management

  • Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. (Writing/Grade 5)
  • [Mathematically proficient students] monitor and evaluate their progress and change course if necessary. (Math Practice Standard 1)

Social Awareness

  • Describe how a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view influences how events are described. (Speaking and Listening/Grade 5)
  • Engage in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly. (Speaking and Listening/Grade 5)

Relationship Skills

  • With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed. (Writing/Grade 5)
  • [Mathematically proficient students] justify their conclusions, communicate them to others, and respond to the arguments of others. (Math Practice Standard 3)

Responsible Decision Making

  • Come to discussions prepared, having read or studied required material. (Speaking and Listening/Grade 5)
  • Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions and carry out assigned roles. (Speaking and Listening/Grade 5)”

What We Need to Know to Look for in Our States Concerning SEL:

1) re-purposing school budgets, combining funds and resources so they are open to all involved

2) college and career readiness departments or committees, especially on the local level and often embedded in community projects.

3) developing a SEL program or initiative (or refreshing an existing SEL program)
ASCD has a ‘how to launch a SEL program article you should read, see:
http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/may97/vol54/num08/How-to-Launch-a-Social-$-Emotional-Learning-Program.aspx

4) Ethic, moral, or, sex education courses and curricula (all parts of the ‘social issues/justice’ portion of CCSS). With the whole community is in this approach, note that means any group seen as invested in education will have access to your students via ‘educational opportunities’.

5) community wide SEL programs or initiatives (ie: 21st Century Community Learning Centers or Strive Together cities (part of KnowledgeWorks) I’ve written about both of these several times, if you’d like the articles, let me know.

6) How higher learning institutions and other LEAs(local education agencies) are helping align our students, SEL, and Positive Behavior Interventions (also a big part of the Title One Funding, and is set to impact every student via the re-authorized ESEA). (ie: The NC Dept. of Public Instruction’s SEL Foundation’s 2013 newsletter for early education. See: NC-DPI SEFEL newsletter_4-3-13_0 ; Vanderbilt University’s SEL Center for Early Education, see: http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/resources/states.html)

7) Youth Development Initiatives (ie: after school programs, mentors, ‘real world’ preparation)

8) state level SEL indicators such as:

From 2011 and the National Center for Children in Poverty
From 2011 and the National Center for Children in Poverty (to see the rest of this eye opening report: SELstateindicators

Closing:

With the rush job Congress is giving the re-authorization of the ESEA, the upcoming vote, and the fact the public will NOT have access to the voluminous bill, we have much we need to be preparing for! SEL will NOT go away anytime soon, like everything else connected to the CCSS Machine, it will continue to grind away at not only our educational system, but everyone involved until they become a manipulated version of whom they used to be!

The CCSS Machine: ‘One Ring to Rule Them All’

Those responsible for the existence and movement of the CCSS Machine won't stop until it rules us.
Those responsible for the existence and movement of the CCSS Machine won’t stop until it rules us.

Anti CCSS Warriors, for today’s “From the File” article, I am borrowing from the “Lord of the Rings”.  We MUST continue our fight against the CCSS Machine with ALL our might! It’s a BIG deal!
Yesterday, I hope you found the encouragement you needed to call Congress and tell the members to vote NO to the re-authorization of the ESEA(Elementary and Secondary Education Act). Why? It’s a VERY big deal!

Why I Chose the ‘Ring’:

If you have read the book series or seen the movie series concerning the “Lord of the Rings”, you know the battles to preserve what was good, right, and, honorable took much effort; caused much sacrifice; and lasted a long time. You also could identify the pattern of a circle. You also may know the famous line, “One ring to rule them all.”

The educational impacts of the CCSS takeover are much the same. If not, why would SO many of the logos and visuals used BY the CCSS Machine contain the pattern?! The agenda behind the CCSS takeover doesn’t stop! It continues on…rolling from birth to the grave! I’ve given you plenty of documented evidence…as have others! This is NOT a conspiracy theory. It is reality and it is playing out right before our eyes! The CCSS Machine will not stop until it rules us all!

The agenda is quite simply: to rule over us all, not matter what our educational choice (as there will no longer be true choice); to create the rulers of those who produce and those who produce..not what they wish, but what they are directed to produce.

In plain speak this translates into the Workforce based Career Pathways or the American Apprenticeship Initiative. Those ‘rulers’? Look at how many post-secondary institutions (public, private, or for profit) are grooming them for CCSS alignment! Again, I’ve provided you with tons of documents and other resources to prove this..as have others! Much like the saga of the “Lord of the Rings”, the CCSS Machine is sometimes very easy to identify, and, at other times, appears to present itself as THE solution to what plagues education!

What does this means in our plain spoken language? For those in the traditional type of schools, the circular pattern will roll on, continuing a cycle of gloominess and dooming our students. For those in non traditional schools, including home education, the circular gloom/doom pattern will begin. For those returning to post-secondary schools after years away, you too, will find the circular gloom/doom pattern will surround you as well.
It means the obsessive data mining, tracking will grind and roll on, it means the punitive assessments will continue on for anyone in education.

NO one is to escape the pattern.

Again, too many well versed and researched anti CCSS Warriors have pointed this reality out.

What will be set around us IF the re-authorization of the ESEA is passed, will roll on into the re-authorization of the HEA (Higher Education Act)! This too, has been researched, evidence provided, and shared.

My point in all this comparison between a fantasy setting and our reality? Will we act against the CCSS Machine and break the cycle?! Or, will we let it roll on, grinding our nation down? We must be diligent and let NO part of the ‘ring’ encompass our nation, our educational systems, and most of all, our students/citizens!

If you haven’t called the members of Congress out on this issue, do so today! If you know others who are lulled into the quasi solutions the CCSS Machine is spewing out, let them read this, show them the evidence. Regardless of which anti CCSS warrior provided it. At this point, it isn’t so much WHO shared the evidence as it is that the evidence is SHARED and acted upon!

Monday Musings: Make That Call!

Call, NOW! Congress needs to hear your voice.
Call, NOW! Congress needs to hear your voice.

Anti CCSS Warriors, I simply want to encourage you to contact Congress today. Those helping us fight this War Against the Core have been quick to alert us that the changes to the re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) are BAD NEWS! I am not about to repeat those warnings. Why? You can easily find them on you own. However, a great place to start would be the Truth in American Education’s website: http://truthinamericaneducation.com/

That stated,  I DO want to pass on that you MUST call! Do not just stop by reaching out to your specific state, contact those key Congressional members responsible for this debacle, too! Not sure what phone number to use? Start with the main switchboard for Congress, 202-224-3121. Want a specific list?  Use the Citizen’s Guide to Congress: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

Don’t forget that the CCSS Machine is working overtime to pump out as much negative press as possible right now to make those of us against Common Core (and the rest of the ‘quality education’ connected to it from “cradle to grave”) look at daffy and misguided as ever!
For example, the Raleigh News and Observer published today this awful piece.
http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/education/article44804307.html

Be sure to leave a comment, I certainly did! I will share with you what I wrote:

“Good grief! Once again the N & O has a reporter promoting one side of this issue moreso than the other! If you want to know the real story of oppostion AND how long the ‘real’ sides have been at it, you would need to do more research. If so, you would find the roots of Common Core in NC are much older than what you report. You would find those who are opposed, as am I, to this illegally based education reform, that WE the People did NOT get to weigh in on, you would know we have uncovered evidence that this paper would never consider to report!
The NCCTM has been helping align math standards for years! But, you’d know that, if you have dug into this important issue. You would also know that laws have been broken as well as created to cover the snafus created by all that Common Core encompasses. You would also find the Common Core ISN’T simply math and english; you would discover it is in EVERY subject! You would find the alignment begins in Preschool and extends to graduate schools AS well as the NC job markets! NC sold out its citizens years ago for money over education. We are just beginning to see the damages. It will only get worse IF the state doesn’t wise up and DUMP Common Core, Career Tech Education!”

Please keep in mind, anti CCSS Warriors, the CCSS Machine will NOT stop at high school..it is (and will to) continue on through post-secondary education. This means the re-authorization of the HEA (Higher Education Act) will follow soon. I have given you plenty of evidence on this subject. Do NOT delay, halt Common Core NOW!

Weekend News: CCSS/CTE Catch Up Edition

divameme

For this edition of my “Weekend News”, here’s a takeaway ‘spoiler’: No matter where you are in the War Against the Core, there’s something for everyone in this edition. Regardless of educational choice, CCSS is set to control education.

If you are involved in traditional public education, the CCSS Machine is the most well known. But what about those NOT in traditional public education? It’s solidly there as well. When you look at the agenda behind the illegally based education reform, the goal is total alignment, not just for education, but for our entire nation. Why? Workforce, the economy, and global citizenry.

Common Core and the Special Needs Students:

Here’s the latest information I found from the Learning Sciences International (which is tied to Robert Marzano). You can find out how this social emotional, pro CCSS push is targeting special needs students, their families, their teachers, and other educational staff.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/03/ftf-new-ccss-unpacking-guide/

This article, which was published near the end of October 2015, is one you’ll want to read due to its increased push for data mining; parent alignment from the U.S. Dept. of Education, and much more. It also ties to the re-authorization of the ESEA.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/monday-musings-the-ccss-are-you-kidding-me-files/

This article, from mid October 2015, reveals how IDEA funding and more, are being abused for the post-secondary alignment to all things CCSS, CTE for students with any sort of special needs, or ‘at risk’ students. Even if you do not have a student in either of these populations, it is OUR tax money which funds IDEA
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/19/monday-musings-idea-when-good-goes-ccscte-bad/

Common  Core, Career Tech Education, Career Pathways, STEM, and the ESEA Re-authorization:

Congress is poised to be voting anytime now on the combination bill where the HR5 and S1177 (Student Success Act and the Every Child Achieves Act, respectively)  This article gives you a review for those who’ve been fighting CCSS for awhile, and for those who are new to the fight, this article can give you a quick look at why we MUST call our Senators and Representatives as soon as possible to HALT the re-authorization!
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/05/tech-thursday-ccsscte-low-down/

This key article is certainly one anyone needs to read or re-read! If you think the STEM Act of 2015 is a ‘good thing’ for education, I urge you to reconsider!
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/21/wybi-tying-stem-to-ccss-again/

Common Core, Career Pathways, and STEM for the Babies:

While we’ve heard and read many articles about the mental damage the CCSS brings students; the Universal PreK push, this article gives you a NC based pro CCSS initiative geared for those with children who are newborns all the way to age 5! While this is NC based, it reaches untold numbers outside NC. You can also find another financial institution meddling in education. To date, I’ve been able to find 3 different such cases: one for post-secondary CCSS, CTE alignment; one for the youngest of USA citizens, and one for promoting anything the CCSS Machine grinds out!
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/02/monday-musings-alignment-for-wee-ones/

Common Core Entities Aligning School Personnel and Others:

This article was geared for a “Halloween” theme, but regardless, it is still vital ‘need to know’ information. During all the research I’ve conducted, I’ve shared many groups seeking to align our school counselors, principals, school board members, and, school superintendents, across the USA. Especially readable for those who are new to battling against the CCSS Machine.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/31/weekend-news-those-ghouls-in-our-schools/

Here’s another article where I reveal yet financial institution meddling in USA education for purposed endorsement of all things related to Common Core! This article shows exactly how P3s (public private partnerships) ruin education in support of anything Common Core related.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/ftf-measure-twice-cut-once/

This article is very detailed in its look at several national groups committed to targeting school personnel. From teachers, on up the ‘ladder’, if you weren’t aware these groups existed, this information is key to your state’s battle.
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/weekend-news-ccss-school-officials-alignment/

Common Core, STEM for Schools via the Export-Import Bank Re-authorization:

If you’ve followed my writing long, you know I’ve shown you how CCSS, CTE, STEM is embedded in legislation that supposedly has nothing to do with education at all, yet, we find pro CCSS programs somehow embedded in them. We saw it in the WIOA of 2014 (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014), and it’s there in the current E-IB (Export-Import Bank) re-authorization! The Common Core’s “Career Tech Pledge”:

If you are new to fighting Common Core, you may not know that the Career Tech Education is an ‘adult version’ of the CC Standards. I’ve been able to provide evidence to support this since I first began blogging. However, this article is some of the latest information. It encompasses several states, including those states which chose to NOT adopt the CCSS (example: Texas). You’ll see many other states involvement in the “Pledge”, see what catchy names are being used to ‘hide in plain sight’ the CCSS/CTE alignment, and see how ‘action plans’ for special needs students, homeschool students play into the “Pledge”….and all in the name of ‘college career readiness’!

As you can see, no educational choice is safe from the CCSS Machine, the more we can help others realize this, the more we can stand together AGAINST the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI)!

Weekend News: CCSS School Officials Alignment

The CCSS Machine is turning our school officials into puppets. Are we really OK with this?
The CCSS Machine is turning our school officials into puppets. Are we really OK with this?

While our attention is focused on the re-authorization efforts of the CCSS/CTE, data mining, high stakes assessments laden HR5, S1177 and the HEA, we need to stop and consider that also included in these bills are the teachers, the principals, the superintendents, and all the other school officials in between. I’ve brought you news in the past about the national groups for these leaders and their CCSS/CTE activities. It’s time to see if anything new is in the works. This article will be quite in-depth, but if you know a school official, or are one who is fighting CCSS, please use the below information to help STOP Common Core!

NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals):

Before we look at the most recent alignment activities, I’d like to remind you of what I’d previously shared with you. It was back in April 2015 that I uncovered the NAESP’s webinar geared to instilling ‘grit’ into our elementary schools. Here’s a brief excerpt, “…presentation on ‘Grit’ to the NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals), April 9th, 2014. It was titled “Grit, Mindset, and Determination: The Key to Leading by Influence, Grades 1-8”To read the rest of the article, as well as being able to access the highlighted webinar, see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/01/wybi-crystal-clear-common-core/

So, what’s the latest for NAESP’s involvement with CCSS/CTE? Plenty. On their website you can see their supportive positions on the re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) via the HR5 and S1177.) You can see how they believe that by making sure a child is on point by the end of 3rd grade their ability to graduate with readiness for college, career, and life. Below you’ll be able to see a screen shot of the CCSS guide for NAESP members to use. You can read the entire guide: common core checklist_2_22_2013as

This guide from 2013 is still in use by Elementary School principals who belong to the NAESP.
This guide from 2013 is still in use by Elementary School principals who belong to the NAESP.

If you’ve not seen it, the NAESP has a 12 step guide for elementary principals for CCSS, too. This guide is also part of  a partnership between NAESP, Achieve, Inc., the NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals), College Summit, and MetLife Insurance. If you didn’t know it, several insurance companies are backing CCSS/CTE. (See my article on “Prevent Common Core” website:
http://preventcommoncore.com/?p=1154) To get the 12 step guide: http://achieve.org/publications/implementing-common-core-state-standards-role-elementary-school-leader-action-brief
Before we move away from the elementary principals, be sure you go to their website to get the other pro CCSS materials they have. You’ll find a dialogue guide for coaching conversations, CCSS and technology, CCSS and PARCC assessments, and a ‘synthesizing’ tool. NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals):

Their website: http://www.nassp.org/ Back in February 2015, I delivered this article to you for your use as a tool to fight CCSS/CTEhttps://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/02/13/fom-friday-ccss-cant-be-wrong/ In this article, you found the Gates Foundation funded ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), the Hunt Institute, Colleagues on Call, TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), the Carnegie Foundation, IDEA Partnership, Council of Great City Schools, and the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers) are connected to the secondary principals.

So, is there anything new going on in the secondary principals’ lives that continues to connect them to CCSS/CTE? Let’s find out! Top on their “Action List” is the re-authorization of the ESEA. They are in full support of the moves to see either HR5 or S1177 turned into law. See: https://www.votervoice.net/NASSP/Campaigns/42272/Respond

From earlier this year, a webinar devoted to the ties between NASSP, Common Core, and Literacy:

Then, there’s also a video from earlier this year concerning the College/Career Readiness Math Standards for NASSP members:

You also may find the level of community partnerships, politics, and their “Breaking Ranks” program of interest in your War Against the Core. For “Breaking Ranks”, see: http://www.nassp.org/Content/158/BRFrameworkExecSummary.pdf

The School Superintendent Association, (AASA):

This association has been written about 5 times on my blog. The first one was back in Sept. of 2014. Since then, I’ve given you much more information about them. One of the articles they are featured in is found above (look in the NASSP’s section and find “Can’t Be Wrong”) In the other 4 articles you can find:
how AASA has been key to the past EdSurge conferences where much alignment to not only CCSS, but CTE as well. See:
*Note: This article will also link to another one of my articles where AASA is exposed (look for “UpSkilling Part 2)
In this article from April 2015, you can read about one of AASA‘s leading members who’s knee deep in CCSS/CTEhttps://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/23/tech-thursday-caps-via-career-pathways-is-still-ccss/

Upcoming for the secondary principals is their 2016 Conference, in the promotion of this conference, you can find the #1 theme of the 7 major topics is CCSS. You can also see that how secondary principals and school board members are a big topic. I have to wonder if the NAESP‘s coaching conversations guide will be used. See the other main themes: http://nce.aasa.org/attend/ You may also want to know that of the 3 key note speakers, one will be addressing ‘disruptive innovation’ for your school’s improvement. You can find out by clicking on ‘general sessions’ under the “ATTEND” tab.

There will also be ‘thought leaders’ at this conference. Among those leading you to more CCSS/CTE will be a NC resident. His name? Dr. Mark Edwards. To learn just how tied to Pearson, digital alignment, and more he is, see my fellow anti Warrior, LadyLiberty1885′s blog for her research into his educational foray. She has 3 articles on him. See: http://ladyliberty1885.com/?s=Mark+Edwards

AASPA (American Association of School Personnel Administrators):

From their ‘About Us’ section, AASPA is the only organization that specifically targets and represents school personnel professionals.  If you are a personnel/human resource administrator, personnel support staff, superintendent, principal, or graduate student interested in this field, you will benefit from AASPA membership.” The section also shares how this group has grown to include other nations as well.

While I’ve not previously written about this particular association, I have written about their product, TrueNorth Logic. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/02/04/wybi-the-gtn-of-north-carolina/ In  this article, you can find out what the AASPA would prefer you didn’t know about their data mining activities, how NC and other states have signed onto this system, and how TrueNorth Logic is tied to the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers). To see what the AASPA tells you about TrueNorth Logic, see: http://www.truenorthlogic.com/cp/AASPA/

AASPA just wrapped up their 2015 Conference (Oct. 13-16, 2015). Was CCSS/CTE there? Let’s see. Geared for those in the HR (Human Relations) departments of schools, this conference covered data mining.management, state, local, and regional initiatives to positively impact those in the education workforce, lots of compliance issues from the U.S. Dept. of Labor, quality teacher prep for Americans to be ‘classroom ready’, performance measurements and organizational alignments combined with cultural shifts in communities and how they can be used in your school districts, an example from an SC school district where state and local standards, enrollment data concerning students and how school officials can use both for success, how the ESEA‘s updates will impact school officials, and more. See: http://media.wix.com/ugd/14e560_f68c4e0461034eeeae13248bed06b3bf.pdf

In their upcoming December 2015 Conference, you’ll find Human Capital as the theme. See the screen shot:
AASPAhumancapital
What’s a bit disturbing about this upcoming event, is that while it’s aimed at school leaders, it still uses ‘human capital’ in referring to employees. It also states that it’s okay to have ‘Principals as human capital managers’. My question to this is, since we know that the CCSS Machine forces alignment of not only students, teachers, principals, and others, just how much of the HR5/S1177 will this type of conference include? We already know that school counselors are being pursued diligently to align their guidance to CCSS/CTE (see my previous article, https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/)

When I searched the AASPA‘s site for “Common Core” I didn’t find anything with that name. However, if you consider their bylaws, the association is in full support of upholding whatever’s going on in public education. See their bylaws, http://aaspa.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/AASPA-Operational-Handbook-June-2015.pdf (*Note: the page with the most telling information is page 6)

Closing:

Are there other efforts to align our school officials to all things CCSS/CTE? Sure there are. Just a couple of weeks ago, I shared with you how AIR, Inc. is doing so.
