Have You Heard?

My Fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors, have you ever heard of BARDA? I’ll be honest, I hadn’t. However, in looking at the Congressional Appropriations Bills (HR 3358 and S 1771) for the U.S. Depts. of Labor/Health and Human Service/Education, I discovered BARDA. Specifically, the ‘new-to-my-research’ agency was written into the S 1771’s Bill.

On Page 96, you’ll find under the heading of ‘Transfer of Funds‘ for the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, directives for where the NIH (National Institute of Health, a part of the HHS) could use some of the funds. Warriors, remember, these funds are our taxpayer dollars.

On Page 97, is where BARDA first shows up. “BARDA” stands for ‘Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority’.

To access the Public Health Service Act, click here.

BARDA is part of the nation’s PHE System. PHE means Public Health Emergency.
**************************
We’ll look at the BARDA funding and research project near the close of this article. For now, we need to see how, if, at all BARDA plays into the CCSS Machine’s overreach in education.
*************************

Thought:

Warriors, with the word ‘biometrics’,  is there more BARDA does than simply prepare us for the worst scenarios? We know ‘biometric’ devices are used to monitor the SEL (social emotional learning) and have been tied to Common Core.

Question:

Now that ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is the law, will biometrics continue to be used? Back in March 2017, I published an article about some (then) current Congressional Bills. Related to them? A 2011 biometric study! Be sure to access this more recent article about the SEL and special needs students via ESSA.

biometricstudy
When I typed in ‘Social Emotional Learning’ into the PHE’s BARDA search bar, what you see below, is what I got back in results.

Warriors, please note I am NOT saying we do not need emergency plans, especially in our schools. BUT, my question is simply this, where does the emergency planning end and the SEL manipulation begin?

Answer #1:

bardasel

Warriors, some of the ‘red flags’ I saw in the highlighted resource in the screen shot above were: all States have behavioral health partners/plans. The plans are to cover emergencies, the partnerships go a bit deeper than ’emergencies only’. Some of these partners happen to be some of the very same ones which have rubbed stamped Common Core, support STEM, have Career Tech Education, or, are CCSS Machine member organizations in on approving the SEL overreach in education!

You can access the 2016 document, here.
(*Note: back in 2014, I wrote how SAMSHA was using Common Core as a tool for gun control via “Project Aware”; in 2015, this article about mental health and the manipulation of it in education for workforce needs. Then, in 2016, this article gives you a big run down of the federal level of overreach in not only mental health with agencies like SAMSHA, but many others!)

In the 2016 Document (above), look for the bottom of Page 14, ‘federal behavioral health support usually involves the provision of technical assistance, educational resources..’ (‘technical assistance’, more times than not, means data mining in some form)
Page 15, an inter-agency council for behavioral health: Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies. This Forum is a P3 (Public Private Partnership). It’s been around since 2007.

More Answers:

Below, are related documents from each of the major groups listed in the screen shot tie directly to ESSA, SEL, and/or behavior interventions OUTSIDE of disasters or emergencies!

Answer #2) https://www.nasmhpd.org/sites/default/files/the-business-case-for-behavioral-health-prevention.pdf (Uses CASEL ( Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), WHO (World Health Organization), OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), and other big name CCSS Machine members as ‘credible’ research sources)

Answer #3) http://nasadad.org/2015/03/state-substance-abuse-agencies-program-management-and-data-utilization-case-studies-of-eleven-states/ (from 2013, how 11 States were already sharing data across State lines and using the National Outcomes Measure model and connecting it for data mining. *Note: this organization is also the one involved with opioids. Warriors, as we know more students are being prescribed opioids and other behavior managing drugs.)

Answers #4 a, b, c) http://www.apa.org/pi/about/newsletter/2016/03/student-act.aspx (use this to find the 2 ESSA supportive documents from 2016)

Also from the APA is the 2017 Annual meeting syllabus. “School” is mentioned 57 times in the topics/presentation notes. I noticed at least 2 on ADHD.

To get to the Skinner referring article(s) from the APA, go here first (this is a research paper on a study of behavior interventions tested on college students), then visit here. (this is one of the few cited sources from the study on college students. It’s where Skinner’s education theory is mentioned.)

Answers #5 a and b) https://www.socialworkers.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=mLtr0q6HLnA%3d&portalid=0 (NASW’s support for ESSA document. Be sure to note the long list of other supporting groups.)

Also from the NASW, an entire page of ‘school’ related social work information for you, Warriors.

Answer #6) To access the Behavior Health Consortium (in the screen shot above), go here.

Answer #7) The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Press’s Disaster Publication has all kinds of partnerships and programs which you may find interesting.

Answer #8) Warriors, we know the educational shift is all about money, so do not be too shocked when you see the picture below:

Getting back to BARDA:

This 2014 article likens BARDA to a venture capital group hidden in DC.
Warriors, we know how toxic venture capitalists have been in education. Where health and education intersect is probably just as bad.

As far as the 10 year contract mentioned in S 1771 for BARDA? It appears that is a continuation of a project which began back during President Bush’s (the first) administration. It’s known as Project BioShield, (PB).
From the Strategic Plan (2011-2016) for PB, an increase in public private partnerships (P3s); 21st Century skills; a workforce steeped in science and technology (which of course means STEM education and STEM jobs); and, all which connects them.

Warriors, the PB price tag is in the billions. (*Note: refer to the highlighted “Bush” above. When that document opens, look to your right for ‘funding’).

Two resources for more about Project BioShield can be accessed here. Johns Hopkins (a known CCSS Machine member) and Oxford Press have articles.

STEM Endorsed by PHE:

Warriors, remember that BARDA is under the Public Health Emergency (PHE) arm of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. I was able to find on the PHE’s blog, not only an endorsement for early emergency preparation by studying STEM in 2017, but how the PHE is working in the context of a 17 year (began 2009) partnership for global health.

As we know from research, global health is part of the UN’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). STEM is a part of the SDGs, as well as part of the CCSS Machine.

Closing:

Warriors, S 1771 and its partner Bill HR 3358 lock in all the funds for things like BARDA and more educational overreach on 10/7/17. The LAST day to raise any challenge is 10/6/17. IF you’ve not contacted your Senator or Representative about the massive amounts of overreaching taxpayer-abused-funds. Please hurry!

Bamboozling The Innocent

Anti CCSS Warriors, Anti Fed Ed Warriors, and Concerned Parents, in my last article, I spelled out for you the grab for our students who are most at-risk. For today’s I will be diving into the federal education grab for those who are among the special needs population. Maybe, by now, you know how ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) harms these students. Maybe, you would like to know more.

While ESSA is supposedly only to oversee K-12th grade education, I’ve shown you (as have others), that ESSA covers before Kindergarten and after 12th grade.

As you may also know by now, WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), ESSA, and HEA (Higher Education Act) all support each other 100%. WIOA is embedded in ESSA, so is the current form of HEA. When the NEW version of HEA is passed, it will almost without a doubt embed BOTH WIOA and ESSA.

Why? Warriors, remember, the goal for aligning education ISN’T about academics, it’s about work trained citizens. Special needs students are involved in this net of education lies, too!

ESSA’s Bamboozlement:
Page 23
of the Law tells us that the States can set ‘alternative’ education Standards for those with the most cognitive disabilities. However, on Page 25, you’ll see this:

disableessa

“Technology”, “higher-order thinking skills and understanding”, ‘necessary to measure..’

From the sounds of these 3 phrases, those who wrote and endorsed ESSA were either clueless or sold out to the CCSS Machine. In reality, some special needs students will not ever be capable to attain ‘higher-order thinking skills and understanding’! Yet, this law clearly demonstrates that no exception to the mandates for ‘measuring’ and ‘technology’ use will be tolerated.

Contrast ESSA’s Page 23 with this screen shot from the U.S. Dept. of Education:

2016idea

Much like the students in “Captive”, these special needs learners will not be treated with dignity or respect, but, shoved through a pipeline system.

captive
Early ESSA Evidence:

Warriors, as you know, I’ve stated repeatedly that everything in the ESSA Final Conference Report can be found in the ESSA Final Law. I simply have used the Conference Report due to the ease of eye strain.

However, I want us to first, go back and look at where I pointed out the alignment dangers for special needs, and then see what’s happened in between time.
1) This article traces the support for national and global groups supporting ESSA (at that time what would live on to become ESSA) for special needs, especially at the post-secondary level. As we know, to have post-secondary alignment, you have to have it in place at the secondary and elementary levels, too.
2) You’ll see more CCSS Machine member organizations pushing on-line tutoring for the special needs learners in this article.

3) In 2016, just as elections were heating up, I put together a ‘need to know’ school board articles. This is part Three. It’s where I have several pages ‘called out’ in regards to all the harm ESSA had in store.

What you see below is ESSA’s Page 28. No where did I see the parents as ‘stakeholders’ included in the special needs student team.

essa28

On Page 57, use of IDEA funds are thrown in for those learning English. (*Note: you’ll also find more about this on Pages 159, 161, 162, and, 164 of ESSA):

essa57On Page 150, look at the control and data mining aspects for special needs students:
essa150
Warriors, on Page 151, you’ll find that school leaders, teachers, and related staff will be able to identify, at an early age, which students are most at-risk for not achieving literacy skills due to disabilities. I ask you, is such an important diagnosis to be turned over to educators? This type of diagnosis should be a physician’s or psychologist’s!

Related And Worth Considering:

1) What ‘alternative teacher or teacher training’ will be unleashed on the special needs students (all ages) in your State? I showed you last week how NC’s HB634 will use people from the private sector to fill teacher jobs, especially with SEL (social emotional learning) experience. While these people may possess SOME of the talents to lead, that does NOT make them a ‘teacher’. Given the experience needed by teachers for this student population, how is this the BEST for them? Also, what about the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports), the school counselors? Here, I showed you how students, including special needs are faring in ‘real time’

2)  Grants from The Gates Foundation to National Center for Learning Disabled to support the CCSS Machine’s shift in education.
a) 2016’s Grant (for expanding ESSA activities in targeted States)

b) 2015’s Grant (for ‘personalized learning’ in special needs education. AKA: technology)

3) From the National Center for Learning Disabled, their hype on personalized learning.

4) The (CEC) Center for Exceptional Children’s “Life Centered Education” curriculum. It is used by many special education teachers across America. Time mark 1:08 (video below) shows the CCSS co-relation. This curriculum is data-driven. The curriculum is based off the “School to Work” 1994 Law, according to the Teacher’s Guide. While I cannot share the Teacher’s Guide link with you (copyright infringement), I can point you to where you can access it. (*Note: click on the download button, upper right hand side of the page)

Also from the CEC, is their 2017 Annual Conference Guide. In it, you’ll find workshops for special needs on UDL (Universal Design for Learning) and many other CCSS Machine ties like CCR (College and Career Readiness), STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), RtI (Response to Intervention), and more.

5) From Congress, HR 3199 (in the current session of legislation). It is to amend the HEA (Higher Education Act) for ‘better access’ for special needs students beyond high school and into colleges or trade schools. States will be submitted, yet again, to competitive grants for items like  ‘career pathway’ direction, data mining, and more.

6) From “Child Abuse in the Classroom”, a page dedicated to what some of these systems and programs for mental manipulation actually contain. (*Note: pay attention to the “Child Find” information.)

Closing:

Warriors, to ‘bamboozle’ someone, you mean to confuse them. How horrible is it that the ESSA language and mandates are written to confuse these type of students who already face their own unique set of challenges? How trite of the CCSS Machine to disrespect the parents and guardians of these children in the name of ‘success’.

*Special note: since the publication of the “Captive Education” article, I’ve had new evidence surface for ‘at-risk’ students. Be sure to look out for that article!

“Friend” Of The Family

Greetings fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors! September 2017 is upon us.

Look below. What you see is actual evidence from a concerned Mom from the Raleigh, NC area.  She’s been with me, fighting the CCSS Machine in NC, for quite a while now.

This is the front page of the letter received by the concerned parent.

wakestudentfront

Warriors, take note of the fine print, Harvard University Research is to receive this personal information. Harvard’s located in MA, not NC! Why is an NC school district farming personal information and data to an Ivy League School?

Next, is the middle page of the letter that was sent home.

wakestudentextra

This form, as you can see is in the event you have more than one child in the same school system.

Below, is the back page of the letter received.

Wakestudentback

Warriors, from the appearance of this part of the letter, all the data issues seem to be ‘not a big deal’, but as we know, all is never as it seems when it comes to our child’s personal information OR their school data.

To complete the guise of ‘friendly’ research data gathering, the folks behind the Wake County School System and the Harvard team, even give you a postage-paid envelope to mail the letter in!

wherewakegoes

Foe #1:

Warriors, I’ve repeatedly shown you have up to its neck in CCSS Machine business Harvard University has been over the course of my published blog.

From their partnership with Pearson Publishing to create the “Pathways to Prosperity” which in turn spur on the “Career Pathways” of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards), STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering, and, Math) and the CTE (Career Tech Education) alignment, as well as create a hotbed for social justice alignment. Then, there’s the micro-management of school counselors with the co-operation of former President and First Lady Obama, which will impact students in K-12th and/or college, where the Harvard grab for adult learners  goes into hyper-drive.

We can’t leave Harvard’s activity in the CCSS Machine there, Warriors. The University has played a big part in the Career Pathways transformation to CBE (Competency Based Education), right along with InACOL, the Gates Foundation, and others.

Oh, and if you didn’t know it, 3rd grade students (and older) can thank Harvard for their undermining reading and writing for job skill training!
The final blow to Harvard’s ‘respected’ reputation, at least as far as an anti Fed Ed Warrior’s perspective goes, will be the global education push that Harvard pitches us into as part of the GECN (Global Education Conference Network).

Now they want us to TRUST them with sensitive school details?!

Foe #2:

“My Student’s Team” by the Harvard Research Team.

harvsafe
When you visit the website (embedded in ‘team’ above), you will see almost nothing. There’s  very little wording. As far as the school districts using “My Student’s Team”? Three. One is Manchester Public Schools, another is Winsdor Public Schools. Wake is the only school system which is a county-wide one using the ‘friendly’ student support team.

Since I have no clue where Manchester and Windsor are located, I will use what information I do have. I hope wherever the Manchester and Winsdor parents are, the following information will be useful.

What does the Team do for the student?  As it appears on the first page of the letter my fellow Warrior received, it looks like a non-family member contact for your student. But notice the wording. I’m going to give you full access to my student I’m interested in knowing more about permission to access his/her behavior records?!

I understand, Warriors, this is a research project with a rubber stamp, but rubber won’t keep data safe.

The letter states a team member should be one who’s interested in knowing more about a student who’s a) not a parent, b) not normally in contact with the school, and c) by the legal guardian! Warriors, do you see what I see?

STRANGER DANGER!
We (meaning those who consent) are to readily and willingly hand over sensitive information to a nameless, faceless ‘team’ via the post office!
By allowing these people I don’t know very well/don’t know at all because they live so far away, what am I really signing up for? Who will background check my choice of ‘support person’ for my student? Who is going to be looking into MY records? For what purpose?

From Raleigh, NC to Harvard, MA is over 700 miles. It also passes through several States, thereby crossing state lines. Is this safe? Is the submission of consent by this ‘non-parent’ giving FULL disclosure? Do those signing this paper realize that given consent means whoever or whatever group Harvard shares this information with will be deemed as ‘okay’ by you, under the current FERPA regulations?

Warriors, because FERPA was changed and large loopholes exist NOW, no agreement seeking your permission should be trusted as ‘safe’!

How do I know? Child Abuse in the Classroom has an entire section on the real truth about how unsafe FERPA is when it comes to private information. Because of the loopholes, you have NO clue who or where Harvard will share this data.  Access the Child Abuse in the Classroom’s FERPA link, here.

(*Note: if you are ready to keep your student’s data safe, or, to see FERPA restored so that your child’s information IS safe, please join the grassroots national campaign called “Child Abuse in the Classroom” today!)

Harvard University, Wake County Schools, and SREE:

Warriors, how DID Wake County Schools get the attention of Harvard University to become an experimental research subject?

One connection I found was a 2016 Conference listed on Harvard University’s website where an official from the Wake Co. system was featured as a speaker. The Conference was one for SREE (Society for Research on Education Effectiveness). You’ll be interested to know that the CCSS Machine member organization, AIR was a main sponsor. (AIR is short from American Institutes for Research)
Two of the SREE Board of Directors are Harvard University employees. AIR is also represented on the Board of Directors.

According to the Gates Foundation Grants website, SREE has received 2 grants. Both were in 2013.

sree
I’ve provided the full 29 page program from that Conference.  Another huge CCSS Machine member group in attendance: WestEd.

Foe #3:

However, it’s  Matthew Lenard (green arrows) which is the name connecting the Wake County Schools to Harvard.

His resume is steeped in the CCSS Machine’s rhetoric.
He’s held a position with SREB (Southern Regional Education Board) which has received funds from the Gates Foundation as well as other  big name groups shoving the modern education reform down our throats.
In fact, SREB is one of the main groups using CCSS Machine money and resources to push the agenda onto school leaders, especially the counselors! (*Note: the highlighted phrase will give you access to every one of my SREB researched articles)

According to his LinkedIn Profile, Lenard is with the Wake County Public School System as a data and accountability officer. Here’s a quote, ” I joined WCPSS through the Strategic Data Project (SDP), a initiative housed at the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University. SDP partners with districts, school networks, and state agencies across the U.S. to transform the use of data in education.”

Lenard is tapped for the SREE 2018 Conference, where a featured speaker from WestEd will lead the attendees down the data strewn path of student information.

Foe #4:

Below, is a screen shot for the SDP (Strategic Data Project). Wake County’s been a partner since 2011. Gates Foundation grants to SDP: two, 1 in 2017 to the State of KY’s Dept. of Education for the data mining and one in 2012 directly to Harvard. Source

This 2010 You Tube video features a woman from the IES speaking to an SREE audience about ‘practice guides’. Listen about the 1:14 minute mark when you’ll hear how behavior modification was almost casually mentioned. While the direct link in the comments to the video no longer exist, I did find some IES Practice Guides which may very well be the type of behavior modification the woman was referring to. In the modification plans? Multi-tier support and Response to Intervention. Both of these are ESSA mandates for our children.

https://youtu.be/pkQgXDlswxQ

From Harvard’s Center for Education Policy Research, this screen shot from a 2016 Survey Report.

Since we’re in the latter part of 2017, and this Report is still awaiting student data, where has the data been since collected? Warriors, do not only look at what we’re being told, but also ask about all the other details being left out on purpose! (*Note: by clicking on ‘Research’, you’ll be able to access the Harvard Center for Education Policy publications.)

HarvardMQIWarriors, since we know ESSA’s mandates include assessments. Research like this will continue the assessment alignment cycle going.

Numerous Foes:

Who funds the Harvard Center for Education Policy?

Harvardedfunders

Closing:

Warriors, we know the data mining is intrusive. We know it violates our civil rights.
My most recent NC interview where we talked about data in the classroom. (Sept. 3, 2017)
I thank the CCTA (Coast Carolina Taxpayers Assoc.) for inviting me. (*Note: I mistakenly used the amount of $89 million in reference to the ESSA funds set aside for digital and technology. It should be $849 million.)

Way Out Yonder…

Recently, Warriors Against Fed Ed, I was looking through my State’s Legislative website. I thought I’d seen enough of the proposed bills linking NC (where I live) to the ESSA’s (Every Student Succeeds Act) overreach in state education. (*Note: if you missed that article )

However, there was one I missed. It’s called the “BRIGHT Futures Act”. It’s from the NC Senate, and is also S56. My fellow anti CCSS Warrior, Andrea Dillon, shared news and video of this Bill on the “American Lens” Facebook page. In the video, our Lt. Governor is waxing joyously about how a “Last Mile” for NC is about to be reached. What is he referring to?

Digital Connectivity and how it will help Rural Education

“Digital Connectivity” ties rural education to the CCSS Machine through aligned workforce based education as laid out in ESSA, HEA (Higher Education Act), and WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act).
“Digital Connectivity” was also a huge portion of the U.S. House of Representative’s HR5 (Student Success Act).
I laid all this out for you in my previous article titled “ESSA and Digital Overload”. That article also helps us connect Rural Education to HR5 and “NC New Schools”. (*Note: the NC New Schools will lead to you to other States with rural education populations.)

You may recall, HR5 was the House’s version to re-authorize ESEA of 1965 (Elementary and Secondary Education Act). As a compromise, big parts of HR5 were taken and added to the U.S. Senate’s version of ESEA’s re-authorization, called “Every Child Achieves Act”, or S1177.

As we now know, S1177 is the Bill which survived and changed its name to ESSA to reflect all that ‘bi-partisan’ work from Congress.

The digital mandates are now coming to fruition. Conveniently completed from a State level with Bills such as “Bright Futures”.

Pausing For A Bit Of Reference:

Before we go on finding out how NC’s S65 is helping ESSA ‘set up shop’ in  NC, let me say that I have no idea how many States have similar legislation. I have no clue how many NC State Leaders are pushing for all the ‘digital connectivity’ items they can get their hands on. However, I do know, that our State has a long history on jumping on the ‘fed ed’ bandwagon several times.

That NC has jumped on this bandwagon is no shocker. Why? NC was the first State to jump on board with Microsoft through their Microsoft IT Academy.

ncmicroit

As we know, Microsoft is a huge digital, CCSS Machine organization. We know Bill Gates is Microsoft’s ‘guy’. We also know Gates is the one who signed an agreement with UNESCO for a one world curriculum, which grew into the CCSSI (Common Core State Standards Initiative). We see the CCSSI in the pages of ESSA, too. Literally.
*Note: In ESSA, we also see the name change from “CCSS” (Common Core State Standards) to its less ‘vile’ name, ‘College and Career Readiness’. ESSA’s writers like to use that phrase. Along with the even more innocent sounding “Challenging State Academic Standards”. ESSA’s writers also threw in the ‘Career Technical Education (CTE)’ phrase.

So, what have Microsoft and NC been up to more recently than 2010? This short You Tube video (2013) will introduce you to the “Imagine Academy”.

In 2016, NC and Microsoft made the news in connection with the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Big Data Regional Hubs. There are 4 of these Hubs across the USA. NC is in the Southern Hub. (*Note: NSF is also a huge CCSS Machine member organization.)

Back To The ‘BRIGHT Futures’:

brightnc

Above you see a screen shot of the 4 page S65 Bill (BRIGHT Futures Act)

*BRIGHT stands for “Broadband, Retail Services on-line, Internet of things, GridPower, Health care, and, Training and education”.

You’ll also see I added some emphasis to Page 1 of S65. These items are very important clues to those of us fighting federally led education in ALL age groups.

While the legislators promoting this Bill are calling this a great thing for NC, here are the parts they either left out by omission (assuming they have no idea how vast the CCSS Machine’s grip on workforce education is) OR by design.

a) P3s (Public-Private Partnerships) in education have created a disgrace to the classical, academic basis our students need.

b) Workforce based education, especially in adult populations ties back to WIOA and HEA, espically through the one-stop-job-centers here in NC. Called “NCWorks” it is a direct product of WIOA state grant money awarded to NC. Why? WIOA grant money given to ANY State has an underlying purpose: using the job center data to ‘marry’ with the student data to create a seamless Career Tech/Career Pathway education! It is the ‘perfect’ setup. The student data, as we know, comes from the Dept. of Education; likewise, the job data comes from the Dept. of Labor. Both happen at the Federal level AND the State level!!

c) Making improvements in your State for better education/access to shouldn’t come about as a by-product of your economy. Those improvements should never place the importance of money over our students. Using a phrase like ‘all means necessary’ is also a big warning.

d) Governor appointed positions spell bad news for the State citizens, regardless of what Council or Committee it is. Special interests are vastly protected with these appointments.

e) Near the bottom of Page 1 (Line 27), “School Connectivity Initiative and Digital Learning Plan” are inserted.  The SCI (School Connectivity Initiative) has been around a few years. Here’s what is does, “The NC School Connectivity Initiative (SCI) compliments the E-rate program in North Carolina by providing state funding to cover the non-discounted portion of school connectivity-related charges. The SCI also provides a statewide network connecting all LEAs and most charter schools to the Internet, E-rate training and support, and network engineering services.” Source: Page 18 of the NC Digital Learning Plan (*Note: E-Rates are those small charges on your phone bill. They, too, can be traced back to the CCSS Machine. E-Rates basically are funds used to data mine your students.) According to the NC Digital Plan, at the bottom of Page 18, it is revealed the E-rates used for NC are based on Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

The NC Digital Plan also is part of the CCSS Machine’s plan for continued alignment in education. How do I know this?  CCSS Machine member, The Friday Institute, is the one which published the detailed Plan in 2015. Among the Plan’s pages is the fact other States using Digital Learning Plans were used as models for NC. The roots for NC’s Digital shift in education go back to 1999. The CCSS Machine entered the digital push about the time Race to the Top surfaced.
To see and read the entire NC Digital Plannc-digital-learning-detailed-plan-9-14-15

Interestingly enough, the NC DPI (Dept of Public Instruction) and the NC SBE (State Board of Education) help oversee this Digital Learning Plan. (Page 6). Our Lt. Governor serves on the SBE. (see below)

ncsbe

From the Lt. Governor’s Education Policy page on his Official NC Website, his stance on digital education. (The rest of his policies reveal a clear conflict (school choice) for us Warriors.) See: http://ltgov.nc.gov/resources/lieutenant-governor-dan-forest-education-policy)

“Innovation in Education: Students need access to modern technology to prepare them for a 21st century economy. Every student should have one-to-one devices (computers, laptops, tablets, etc.) in their North Carolina classroom. As Chairman of the Governor’s eLearning Commission and member of the State Board of Education’s Special Committee on Digital Learning, Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest is actively working to provide Wi-Fi access to every K – 12 classroom in the state. Though North Carolina leads the way in our effort to extend broadband Internet access to every public school, the next step is to expand that infrastructure to reach every public school classroom and put one-to-one devices in the hands of the students.”

I would urge any of you with proven research as to how digital devices are so dangerous in the hands of our youngest learners or how too much screen time is dangerous for any age student, to please contact the Lt. Governor and every one of the S65 Sponsoring Legislators.

If you missed why ‘school choice’ is an anti Fed Ed Warrior’s conflict:

Community Schools (can also include 21st Century Community Learning Centers)

Closing:

So, pardon me, if I’m not seeing such a BRIGHT NC Future. What I do see is a NC committeed more to the federal government than to its citizens. I urge all of you who live in rural counties and states, use this article as an example of what is going on right under our noses to align everyone in education to the same thing!

“In Alignment We Trust”

penceprops

Just released yesterday, was this glowing article about how fantastic and ‘for education’ Vice President-elect Pence is. Sure, the IN based media has a right to brag..after all it is one of their own who will be second in command of the entire nation. (article link is below in the ‘school choice’ portion)
Pardon me, if I (along with other Anti CCSS Warriors) are not joining in the celebration.

Let me state, it is not Gov. Pence I am attacking, it is his involvement in education I wish to bring to light. First, the stance on Career Tech Education. Then, the stance on vouchers and school choice.

Career Tech Education: Education/Workforce Alignment For All Ages:

Recently, I’ve shown you how the U.S. House’s Education and Workforce Committee has used Gov. Pence’s words about the glories and praises of CTE (Career Tech Education). Those words were from 2015. With their  mantra, our Congress has been spreading, they are leaving out some very crucial details. (For example, see the ‘featured shot’ above.) To see the  important CCSS Machine information surrounding that featured picture and to learn more about Pence’s speech,
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/11/09/does-it-really-matter/

Warriors, I’ve been sharing with you for years about the toxicity of CTE (Career Tech Education). Why? It is the adult form of Common Core. It is all about workforce education, NOT academic education. It is designed for EVERY educational choice known to mankind due to all the locations it is embedded.

From my research, I’ve shown you how this ‘adult version’ has reversed itself and now traces backwards into K-12 education. It also extends itself into community colleges, apprenticeships, job seeking services, and everywhere in between. Four year colleges, on-line colleges, some private higher education institutions (especially the for-profit trade based schools) ALL have CTE!

Warriors, from my article I’ve linked you to above, you can see how Congress is considering some pretty wide sweeping CTE legislation. That article mentions 2 pieces. However, back in August, I showed you a total of 4! Each are toxic on their own, but it is the LADDER Act which is the MOST damming of all. To learn about the data mining, the job/economy education micromanaging, and lots more: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/08/18/americas-obsession/

Pence on CTE:

inpencecte
In this undated IN article, the two bills to strengthen CTE in IN were described as ‘sweet music’. The first bill combined P3s (public private partnerships) to create workforce based education. The second bill created ways for all the ‘stakeholders’ to be present at the same time and place. Pence stated CTE would reduce the drop out rate, help IN’s economy, and attract new jobs. He also stated he’d create a new high school curriculum for ‘vocational tech’. Warriors, CTE is the re-brand name for ‘vocational tech’!

*Note: While Gov. Pence is on record for creating a new educational curriculum, his biography does not reveal any education experience whatsoever. There’s no education degree, no education resource authorship. Nothing.
To see his biography: http://www.biography.com/people/mike-pence-071416

In July 2016, the New York Times had what you see below in their article about Pence’s stance on education. As you’ll see the added emphasis is mine.

fencepenceAs you can guess the national groups for CTE are pumped Gov. Pence is on board with this part of the CCSS Machine. Here’s an article from the Career Tech Blog:
http://blog.careertech.org/?p=12435

Here’s a screen shot of the Blog. Emphasis is mine.

pencesplit
From Pence’s 2014 Roadmap for Education, the last page detailed how he was set on increasing CTE. On the pages preceding the information, you’ll find his plan for vouchers and low-performing schools.
See: https://www.in.gov/gov/files/Roadmap_2014_Education.pdf

Vouchers, School Choice Stances:

Taken from the first page of Pence’s Roadmap, early education vouchers (emphasis mine):

penceway

Over on the Trump Campaign website, you’ll find a glowing statement made by Pence about Trump’s school choice plans. GOV. PENCE:“A Bold Set Of Policies That Will Increase Accountability And Lead To Better Results For Our Nation’s Children…” ” To see the policies:
https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/pence-statement-on-trumps-new-school-choice-policies

*Note: I do not know for a fact if either of these elected officials is aware of the dangers in ‘school choice’, ‘education savings accounts’ (vouchers/tax incentives), or re-prioritizing federal funds to create these ‘opportunities’. I do not know if they are aware that all that accountability they seem to believe is available in these options is a fallacy. Why? ESSA and its accountability mandates decrease local control NOT increase it! ESSA and its language neuter school choice completely.
Feeding this rhetoric (regardless of political affiliations) to our nation only accomplishes 3 things:
a) furthers the CCSS Machine grasp on education thereby increasing the P3 overreach
b) renders campaign promises as null and void as to ending CCSS thereby strengthening CTE (CCSS’s extension)
c) sets our nation up to continue its global workforce education streamlined march into a caste America
(*Note: if you’d like to know how I know these 3 points, please refer to my portion of Alice Linahan’s recent article, http://www.voicesempower.com/betsy-devos-being-against-common-core-is-like-saying/)

The IN based article (the very first picture you saw with “In Pence, Trump Finds School Choice Advocate”), you’ll see that Pence is heralded as a champion for not only choice, but vouchers. Read this excerpt, school choice policies that have come to define Indiana’s educational landscape could gain an unprecedented prominence on the federal level.”

Warriors, this should have us all concerned. We DO NOT need more federal level education activity!

Another huge warning should be this quote, “While the administration of President Barack Obama has supported the expansion of charter schools nationwide, educators expect the Trump-Pence administration to provide a bully pulpit for national discussions on school choice.”

To access the entire article:
 http://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2016/11/26/pence-trump-finds-school-choice-advocate/94338258/

Warriors, we’ve seen the many other Obama administration overreaches into the school systems (ie: data collection, digital assessments which lead to data mining, STEM initiatives, College/Career Readiness initiatives, The American Apprenticeship Initiative (CTE and P3 in one location). We’ve witnessed Vice President Biden join forces with American unions to promote workforce based education on several local, state, and national levels. We are seeing our U.S. Congress create legislation after legislation to continue CTE. We’ve seen our Congress pass, without hesitation, the ESSA which further expands charter schools, incentives (which could be called vouchers or education savings accounts in the future) to States, all the while keeping the workforce based streamlined education embedded for students AND teachers.

Do we really need more of the same? Do we really need a ‘bully pulpit’?

Closing:

It’s important to note that while there is so much true and fact based information as to why school choice is a fallacy, there is just as much fallacy based, misguiding information out there. The CCSS Machine is funding many groups to spread the latter. In fact, they’ve already been at it for a while. How do we know? Look at your State legislation already in place for charter schools. Look at the already passed ‘school choice’ options available.

Then, look at the national groups spearheading BOTH. For example, Jeb Bush’s Foundation for Excellence in Education (I recently wrote and published information about his latest D.C. push for such activities.), EdChoice (formerly the Friedman Foundation) was also featured in the IN news article above. Here’s is an excerpt as to why they re-branded themselves, “Although we will no longer be using their name, we will never lose sight of universal school choice as the intellectual legacy of Milton and Rose D. Friedman. We have been honored to be their legacy foundation during the last 20 years and to be the nation’s only organization solely dedicated to promoting their concept of educational choice. We believe that government has a responsibility to educate the public, but that doesn’t mean writing every child a mandatory prescription for “public school” as it’s been defined over the past 60 years.”
(entire article: https://www.atlasnetwork.org/news/article/friedman-foundation-changes-name-to-focus-on-benefits-of-educational-choice)

In this You Tube video, be sure to note how the Foundation has already been at work ‘training’ policy and law makers to sway the ‘school choice’ illusion. So, Warriors, our War vs the Core will take on a different direction, it seems. Not only fighting for our students, but debunking the myths so permeating the nation.

To What Degree?

Greetings, Warriors Against the Core. We’ve got a new month and the same old problem. With just days before one of the most dividing Presidential races most of us have ever seen, we need to bear in mind that while all eyes appear to focus on D.C., what education B.S. chips are flying in your State or local races?

The featured picture you see above is NO pipe dream. It IS a PIPELINE, however. This comes from a State which THOUGHT they’d said “NO” to Common Core. While that may be true on some levels, the State said “YES” to the OTHER parts of Common Core. I know, old news. Warriors, as has been proven, ALL 50 States, our military outposts, and physical territories of the U.S. ARE ‘lock, stock, and barrel’ hooked into the CCSS Machine.

No election will change this. Not as long as ‘We the People’ allow it. To illustrate the seriousness, look below:

degrees
Is it enough simply to say “I Vote and I’m Against Common Core.”? NO! IF we simply stop there we are no more a child’s champion than those seeking office and who believe Common Core is dead, thanks to the Every Student Succeeds Act!

IF we simply assume a straight party ticket will solve the education demise, we are in for a rude awakening. The CCSS Machine is filled to the brim with ALL political parties: Independent, Unaffiliated, Green, Libertarian, Democrat, and, Republican.

In the past 3 weeks, I shared with you time and time again, how the U.S. House of Representatives is pushing extremely hard to not only further the CCSS Machine’s grasp on workforce based education, they are using a past speech from the Republican VP’s papers as the base for WHY they are willing to lock us into this system.

Sometime in the past 2 years I exposed how our current President also handed off the task of promoting CTE (Career Tech Education) as the ‘be-all-end-all’ for fixing not only education, BUT the job market AND the economy.

Think about this:
IF something were to happen to any President, their Vice President is to take charge. Are we really ready for a continued push for an education which doesn’t produce excellence but rather supports the globally educated ‘learn to earn’ citizen?

What about the State levels? Are they just as bad? I’m not sure about yours, but where I live, the short answer is “Yes”.

From the majority who serve within the State borders, to the majority who represent this place in DC. Ask them about Common Core and you’ll get an answer similar to “I do not support it.” Ask them about Digital Technology programs like 1:1 (One digital device for every one student), you’ll get a hearty “Yes”. Ask them about CTE, CP (Career Pathways), AAI (American Apprenticeship Initiative), JDGs (Job Development Grants), and so on {which are ALL part of the CCSS Machine’s workforce based education reform}; you’ll get a definite “Yes”. Those leaders who are in the minority? Often are discounted, discarded, marginalized, or buried by the CCSS Machine in some way.

How can we support leaders who spew from one side of their mouths, ‘No’ and “Yes” on the other side?! How can they receive our vote of confidence in good faith?

One anti Fed Ed Warrior has stated it something like this, “I’ve no trust for the government now, so why would I allow even more?”

Warriors, every single day that goes by and our students from early ed to higher ed are being indoctrinated right before our eyes, we lose.

So, Ask Yourselves, WWOFFD? (“What Would Our Founding Fathers Do?”):

a) limit government (at every level) so trust cannot be woefully abused

b) refuse to conform to bad leadership, policy, or law ESPECIALLY when it violates the U.S. Constitution

c) revolt when needed (have we become so complacent as to think it’s not needed?)

d) remember that to be an American is an honor, thus voting, is a sacred responsibility

e) no matter who is elected, know that we are to display as much respect and courtesy as we would want to receive, if it were us in office

f) dispel the ‘something for free’ rumor in the nation

g) say what needs to be said and ‘damn the consequences’

My final thought on this topic is simply this….
To what degree does the thermometer need to reach for us to be our student’s/citizens’ champions?

Closing:

Clearly none of the ‘stop-gap laws’ created to date will stop the UN inspired goal in sight. (refer to the picture above with the thermometer)

No knee jerk reaction is going to be effective enough IF it is not part of a carefully planned salvo of precise measurements to render the CCSS Machine null and void. Do we have it within ourselves to be these Warriors? I think we do.

We must pull deep within ourselves to summon OUR character and principles. We must think of ourselves as modern day Founders. Because, in essence WE ARE! machen_meme

S.O.S Assessments, Pt. 2

A couple of days ago, Warriors, I shared some news about the ESSA assessments.
Today’s article will give you some of the information and research you need to know in order to understand the name game that the CCSS Machine is playing with us.

A Hidden “Gem”:

Where we left off:  U.S. PIE and their team’s worthy efforts of exposing the deceptions surrounding the innovative moves in the works for testing our students.

Among some of the evidence revealed by that team of volunteer parents for U.S. PIE, was the use of the word ‘modular’ in the language describing the ‘innovations’ ESSA’s assessments are bringing us.
From page 6 of the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s Assessment document proposing all the assessment changes (http://www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/essa/nprmassessementfedreg1b.pdf)

“We also note that, under part A of title I of the ESEA, as amended by the ESSA, States have the flexibility to use computer-adaptive statewide assessments, to administer a single summative statewide assessment, or to offer multiple statewide interim assessments during the course of the academic year that result in a single summative score and provides valid, reliable, and transparent information on student achievement (e.g., modular assessments).”
I urge you, if you haven’t seen this document, to read it. While the excerpt sounds like States will have some choices, they won’t.

Here are some synonyms for ‘modular’, see if you recognize any of them from CCSS Machine propaganda.

2010, An International Paper by ‘Educrats’:

Here’s a screen shot of the 7 page paper, notice the word ‘flexible’ in context with assessments. Notice the international influences for education.

momass

So why did I use the word ‘educrat’ to describe the authors?

Prof. AL-Smadi is a “Google Scholar”. As we know, Google’s a huge CCSS Machine member organization.Visit his “Google Scholar” page and you’ll see tons of works/studies on assessments for students. (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=im_3CvwAAAAJ) Now, simply being a “Google Scholar” doesn’t make this professor an educrat. No, in my research, when folks willingly and knowingly work for or promote any part of the CCSS Machine, that qualifies them.

So, what else has Prof. AL_Smadi participated in? “Learning Layers”, a global career-clusters-like project. ‘Career Clusters’, by the way are a part of the CCSS Machine for students of all ages. It’s also a “7th Framework Programme”. What is blue blazes is THAT?!
“7th Framework Programme” was a part of the European Commission. CORDIS is where old “7th Framework Programme” projects are archived. (See: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/)

So, what’s the big deal? The Learning Layers project the Professor worked with is responsible for the “Learning Toolbox”. What’s the “Learning Toolbox”? A work-based education tool. See the “Learning Layers” blog: http://learning-layers.eu/news/

Now, Warriors, try an internet search on your own for ‘learning toolboxes’. See my example below,

learnlab
Then, try a search for ‘digital learning toolboxes’. You’ll be sadly amazed.

What about the other professors? Prof. Guelt is also a cited Google Scholar. He, too, is deep into ‘adaptive’ assessments. See his Google Scholar page:
https://scholar.google.at/citations?user=NoAiKpcAAAAJ&hl=en
Prof. Guelt is also involved in Global Education/Learning, especially for engineering. See his website: http://www.iicm.tugraz.at/guetl

The last professor, Prof. Kannan, is a Google Scholar, too! His Google Scholar page:
https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=1nkvdhMAAAAJ&hl=en
His expertise is in data mining and human-to-computer-interaction. See:
https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Rajkumar_Kannan3

The 7 page paper these 3 Scholars wrote discussed why 21st Century assessments via computer (e-assessing) was (is) such a promising field.

If you noticed in the screen shot of their work, ‘modular assessments’ was used. If you read the rest of the paper, you’ll see the separate domains of effectiveness, the alignment of the education and/or assessment standards to be used in these electronic tests, and MORE. http://www.ijcaonline.org/journal/number9/pxc387342.pdf

**If you still unsure how ‘modular assessing’ works, this simple definition for modular assessing, “A modular course is defined as a part of the main course that can stand alone. The topics are related and when combined with all other parts, become the entire course. Modular courses may not exist without the main course. Some modules may be self-paced. Classes may be offered as faculty lectures, on Web, using CDs, on campus, off campus, or a combination of all of the above with an exam at the end of each module. Modular courses run full term; modules may or may not run full term.”
I found this on the Oregon State University website,
http://newdesigns.oregonstate.edu/admin/aa/apaa/modular-courses

**Remember, ESSA’s language mandates that all education, including assessments, must be streamlined to post-secondary readiness; that standards be aligned to what higher ed uses, SO by using ‘modular assessments’, it is easier to force alignment in testing/teaching.

A Stop in Cambridge:

From a report that appears to be from 2011,

cambridgeassess

Why pay attention to Cambridge’s findings?! Consider the global shift in education. Wherever education is, assessments will also be! Consider the American demise of shifting from one type of harmful assessing to another type.

What is interesting is that Cambridge found different students need different assessments. To see the 2005 Cambridge study of the Effects of Modularized Assessing:
http://www.cambridgeassessment.org.uk/Images/122773-effects-of-modularisation.pdf

So, how does ESSA propose to improve testing?!  “Innovative assessments”. The ‘innovation’, however, is MORE e-assessing, MORE data mining. How? Modular testing systems!

Warriors, if you aren’t sure how the international information ties into ESSA, see below:

essaassessglobe

Remember, those experts above have been working non-stop (so have scores of other CCSS Machine members) to make sure those modular assessments fit the requirements. Shamefully, Congress, the CCSS Machine, and others made sure this shift was embedded in ESSA.

Heading to New York:

By this time, I was gasping at all that was unfolding before my eyes. But, there’s more…. somehow in searching, this kept popping up: EngageNY. What you see below is a small sample of modular assessing.

engageny
If you would like to see the entire one page document for more modular/digital mess:
https://www.engageny.org/resource/driven-by-data-data-driven-implementation-rubric/file/196
According to EngageNY, the source for the rubric is “Paul Bambrick-Santoyo’s Driven By Data: A Practical Guide to Improve Instruction”.
This link will show you how many assessments schedules and resources are already in place for the modular/digital ‘innovative upgrades’:
https://www.engageny.org/resource/data-driven-instruction-sample-assessments-and-resources
**Consider this, while the schedules already in place are dated, they will only increase via ESSA, NOT decrease. You can be sure that Paul Bambrick-Santoyo and many others like him have already been tagged by the CCSS Machine to help with the innovative/modular assessing ESSA will deliver.

Who the heck is Bambrick-Santoyo anyway?! He’s with “UnCommon Schools”. But, that’s not all:

bambrick
To see the Uncommon Schools website: http://www.uncommonschools.org/
To see the Relay/Leverage partners: http://www.relay.edu/about/partners

If you’d like to see Bambrick-Santoyo’s work for data mining, etc. I found his research at the University of IL. Just wait until you see the collection of research for digital assessments UofIL has.
See: http://education.illinoisstate.edu/search/?site=isu_collection&client=default_frontend&clientID=COE&as_sitesearch=education.illinoisstate.edu&output=xml_no_dtd&filter=p&oe=UTF8&q=data%20improve

While Bambrick-Santoyo didn’t contribute to this ESSA paper, you need to get this one. It is detailing the focus ESSA will put on school leaders, especially principals. Be sure to read it all, including the footnotes.

Digitally “Fried”

Warriors, we’ve heard plenty of CCSS Machine rhetoric about “Personalized Learning”. The CCSS Machine has taken a classic teaching tool and destroyed its true purpose.

The phrase has been bounced around SO much by the propaganda, the ‘objective’ studies and research, and all those profiting off the NEW rendition of Personalized Learning (PL) that most everyone has no clue as to what PL should truly be. Most only know it means a computer. Too much computer time/instruction means a ‘digitally fried’ student, a frustrated teacher, and a sold out state of existence.

So, before we get much further into how ‘digitally fried’ our nation has become, I want you to consider the ‘burning’ question you see below:

digitallyfried
*Note: While what you see above is NC specific, this is NOT a problem exclusive to the State. You will find similar in your State. We will be re-visiting the moves NC is making later. But first, a national view.

Classic PL:

Much like the tasty potatoes you order at a restaurant, you’ll notice there are choices. There are ‘classic’ fries (meaning cooked just right, a little salt, not too thin or thick cut), curly fries, seasoned fries, fries smothered in cheese, and other endless examples.

TRUE PL closely resembles the classic fries. How do I know? Ask a retired educator (The best people to ask  need to be over 40 or 50 years old). Look at a classical education model.

True PL plans show a lot of flexibility in both the teacher AND the student; a variety of teaching tools, styles, games to engage the student’s 5 senses or their whole body.

Today’s ‘digitally fried’ PL, uses agenda driven, watered down versions of plans, tools, and resources. Today’s PL hardly uses the student’s 5 senses/whole body.

Think about it from the fries example, lots of copy cat versions seeking to improve upon the classic order of fries, but not nearly as satisfying. Education is HARDLY the place for copy cat, failure embedded versions of what really works.

Ask a researcher or a child psychologist; look at the way in which some school desks have been redesigned. This picture (below)stated it was ideal for the kinesthetic  learner.

Well, which KIND of kinesthetic learner?! The student who needs to keep only their hands busy or the student who needs to move around, sit on their legs, or be able to turn around? As the mother of a kinesthetic learner, I can tell you, my child would not have liked this desk/bike at all. Why? Limited movement. Too much limited movement for some learners like this, stunts their thinking and will cause burn-out when it comes to completing assignments.

pedal-desks
Oh, and the cost of one of these desk/bikes? A single one can be over $1,000.00; One like these 4 seater? Almost $3,700.00! True PL can be accomplished at a fraction of this cost. Who foots the bill for ‘school improvements’ like what you see above? TAXPAYERS! With the way the current education laws are written, P3s (public private partnerships) will also be helping with ‘improvements’ like this. Think of it this way, they want to be the ultimate order of ‘loaded fries’ in your school. A whole lot of ‘eye appealing yumminess’ and a lot of ‘bad for you’ calories.

What does the U.S. Dept. of Ed say PL is?  That depends..do you want the PL for teachers, leaders, or students? See below:

Dear Old NC:

Now that you see how the nation is serving up PL, just what is SO important I have to (once again) call out NC’s activities?! For starters, the CCSS Machine mouthpieces shouted ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) would free the States, mean less testing (assessments), and so forth. As research is proving in real time since ESSA’s passage, States are creating ways in which to appear like they are taking control of education, but when you look closely, you see the national agenda in the plans. How so? Look below:

repealpl
Before I share more, let me state for the record that I know some of our NC legislators personally. I know they absolutely hate the CCSS Machine and what it is doing to NC. I know you have legislators like this in your State. While not every legislator serving us will be a party to this kind of activity, there are countless others who either will or simply are not aware of how many strings are being put into place.

NC’s been in the news before for what looked like a repeal, but was in all honesty, a rebrand. That was when we supposedly repealed CCSS. Nope, the law which went into place was watered down to a name change. We had the chance to totally ditch the CCSS mustard and ketchup for our fries, and didn’t!

So what else does this ‘new’ Repeal-but-not-really Law do?
a) gives an illusion
b) will be taxpayer funded
c) to access the entire document from above: http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2015/Bills/House/HTML/H237V6.html
d) allows for retention of students from grade to grade
e) supposedly improves transition from elementary grades to middle school; middle to high school as defined by the NC State Board of Ed. Who heads our State Board of Ed? Dr. June Atkinson, State Superintendent AND President of the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers)!
f) by repealing ‘personalized learning’ this Law opens the flood gates for ‘alternative assessments’.

What the State Board Says:

If your State Board of Ed is anything like NC’s, you are sick to no end of their selections they serve up when it comes to education. (Think rotten fries or spoiled potatoes..they stink!) Above, point E shifts the responsibility of defining PL from the lawmakers to the educators. While that is as it should be, the obvious fly in the room is that those serving as educators are sold out to the CCSS Machine’s agenda.

In a few days, our State Board will have a meeting (8/31 and 9/1). Among the topics?

reviseplnc

Included in the announcement of this topic was a supporting 22 page document. By removing the PL as it had been defined, the State Board listed ALL the ‘alternative assessments’ they used in conducting a survey of what works and what doesn’t. The actions the Board will take with PL’s ‘repeal’ or revision will more than likely be based on this survey!

In other words, a steady diet of ’24/7 loaded fries’ will continue!

You have to see this. Not only have these ‘spuds which are really duds’ been  24/7 assessing, most, if not all are DIGITAL!

By the State Board’s apparent direction, that means humongous data mining will CONTINUE.  ESSA and WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) increase this mining via State grants/incentives.

2016NCPLreport

To name a few for the K-3rd graders in English and Math: Dibels, iReady, Discovery Education,Dreambox, universal screening, performance monitoring, past performance, SchoolNet Benchmarks, and MAP.

For these students in their ‘success’ or ‘achievement’ measuring (remember, K-3rd graders): SAT Teams; teacher observations; outside entities like the Dept. of Social Service, law enforcement, etc.; below grade level activities; mental health involvement, and after-school programs.

You will find the same types of measuring students in grades 4th and 5th; 6th-8th; and 9th-12th. What I noticed is the K-3rd grade group has more than the others. When you consider ESSA embeds birth to 3rd overreach, this should have you ready to fry some spuds of your own.

If you’d like to listen in via an audio live link (8/31 and 9/1) to see what the NC State Board will do: http://stateboard.ncpublicschools.gov/live-audio-streaming

Closing:

What’s in your State’s PL activity? How many ‘cooks’ are in the education kitchen? How many ‘fryers’ are in State Legislative bodies? Do we really want to see America ‘digitally fried’ and marginalized?! After all this, I’m ready to launch a few potato rockets.
