Anti Fed Ed Warriors, Anti Global Ed Warriors, and concerned Americans everywhere:

You’ve seen massive amounts of research exposing the continued push to have American education become the United Nations’ (UN) education. The main way this has been accomplished so far (and will increase in use) is STEM/STEAM/STREAM.

No matter how many letters are added to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), it is ALL directly from the United Nations and their SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). If you have a family member, friend, associate, or neighbor who needs to see the many connections proving this, I’m embedding a general link to all my articles on STEM/STEAM/STREAM. (*Note: there are several pages of articles, so take some time to scroll through them to find exactly what may be needed.)


Some “New” STEM Evidence:

Warriors, in doing some research, I found a Fall 2015 article we need to know about.  It’s called  The Emerging 360 Degree Model for Global Citizenship Education”.

Before we look at the ups and downs of this research, take a look at how you and I should ‘stack up’ as global  citizens:

Warriors, to have an image like this, we need to understand experiments were conducted with students to gather the data to create a visual result!

Where were the experiments based out of? Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.
How connected to the UN is Boise State University? Very!
Model UN Assemblies are the tip of the global iceberg.
BSU is also a member of the AASCU (American Association of State Colleges and Universities) which is a UN Partner in Education.

Page 1: STEM will ‘offer tremendous opportunities’ for solving global poverty and improving health care. Warriors, STEM certainly will because STEM is the way the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are carried out in education!

You’ll also see (on Page 1)  P3s (public private partnerships) are stressing we need to become global. Especially the P21 (Partnership for 21st Century Skills), which is most definitely a CCSS Machine member group.

Page 2: Reveals it’s imperative we educate students for globalization. Why? They can better understand the world. If they understand the world, they can fix the world’s problems. From Page 2 into Page 3, why health care needs to become STEM oriented. (It already is via the Career Clusters from Common Core.) (*Note” the embedded short video you’ll find when you click on “Career Clusters” is from TX, where the State supposedly didn’t have Common Core. However, TX had Common Core in the form of CTE, Career Tech Education and STEM.)

Make NO mistake: it has been a calculated plan for STEM and Common Core to be directly related.

Page 3: Global citizens can better economics for everyone, especially when they can ‘leverage collective assets’. You’ll find IPSL (International Partnership for Service Learning) also on Page 3. IPSL is a B Corporation (social benefit). B Corporations are usually big on social justice. Social justice is a huge component of the UN’s SDGs.
Many B Corporations are CCSS Machine members, too. (*Note: as an example, look at EFP (Education Funding Partners) ) Back in 2016, I exposed the AltSchool’s B Corporation status. Part of AltSchool’s classroom ‘setup’? Willy nilly style.

Page 4: the Global 360 Education Model is rigorous, progressive for real world problem solving. (Doesn’t this just sound like recycled pitches for Common Core?!)
Oh, also let’s not forget to overlook the ‘competency’ involved. You’ll see that on Page 4 as well.

Page 5: Global citizens should have ‘open minds’ especially while ‘actively seeking’. I guess the truth about having such an open mind leading to danger is lost in the CCSS Machine’s translation. “Preparing NextGen Leaders” also needs open minds full of STEM skills.

Included on Page 5 of BSU’s research is the fact that in 2012, they partnered with Peacework. Peacework is a non profit global organization in full support of innovation (aka technology) and the SDGs. This non profit is based in VA and is 25 years old. (Be sure to see which educational and corporate groups are helping align Peacework to the CCSS Machine.

You will also see the Global Competency Aptitude Assessment is on Page 5 as well.

Warriors, here’s an excerpt from Page 5 about STEM and health-care,
” Within the context of STEM and health-science education, global competencies must include sensitivities to the social, cultural, political, ethical, and moral impacts of science, technology, and health-science and/or engineering-based global solutions (Conway, 2000; Currier, 2009; MBugua, 2010).”

Let that sink in for a moment. Who gets to decide which ‘sensitivities’ to include? Who gets to decide if these ‘sensitivities’ are in agreement with those being taught. As our government gets more and more STEM in our lives, we’ll see more legislation (like some I’ve recently shown you) where the families will have to kowtow to the government assigned health imperatives. (*Note: when you click on ‘you’, scroll down to the Mental Health in Schools Act section.)

Pages 6-7 will detail how the learning process will shift to create global citizens. Four tools are used. Constructivism (where ‘critical thinking’ is inserted); interdisciplinary learning (where group projects are inserted); transformational leaders (where facilitating is used in place of teaching); and, international service-learning (think glorified indentured servitude). Helping put all this into action? International partnerships.

Pages 8 through 11 lay out the methods, findings, discussion, and conclusion of the Boise State University study. Be sure to read the comments made by the students.

Since the BSU Study:

Warriors, as far as BSU itself, the global citizen march lives on. Just like it is ramping up in every grade level, college or not. You’ll find global citizen courses for business, too.

If you’d like to see the other World Economic Forum resources for defining global citizens, this one is from 2014 and appears to uphold the need to be global to help cut down on the cost of communications. In 2015, the conversation shifted to international ID cards and data tracking needed to ‘help’ global citizens. From March 2018, being global citizens means our ‘trust’ factor will be restored.

Warriors, according to this article ‘trust’ is the most important ‘pro-social’ attitude we can have. Since when did ‘trust’ become an attitude?! Trust, by classical definition is part of your moral character. I guess we can thank the CCSS Machine’s English Language Arts for destroying definitions.

Be Sure To Tune In

Fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors,
  Does the featured image look familiar? We know the digital push for our families is at an all-time high. We’ve certainly seen the research on too much screen time and the damages laid upon our students when they are on their computers. But, what about the stealthy moves by those TV networks to not only draw students in, but entire families?

The type of shows being used? CCSS aligned education, for sure. Wrapped up as fun? More than likely. Adventures? Maybe. Indoctrinating plots or themes? You bet. The trouble is, you’ll never notice IF you’re not informed.

No, I’ve not recently read “1984”, but we all may as well of. “Big Brother” is snooping through our homes already. If you’ve got a Smart Meter for electricity; a Smart TV; a Smart kitchen appliance; and, most especially if your student has a school issued laptop. For those who home educate or take virtual classes? It’s a safe bet to know you’re ‘watched’ as well.

So, why would I bring up TV networks? Does this have to do with the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) mandate that no student would be denied 24/7, 365 days a year access to quality digital on-line learning resources? I believe it does, 100%. In late 2017, I shared with you how Saturday morning TV had been totally transformed from simple cartoon fun to education.

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know the tie between the major media companies, especially Silicon Valley venture capitalists in major media (ex: Netflix), have a massive game plan to reinvent education. It’s well it the works. Part of the plan is to totally shift away from people on school boards. Another part? Totally computer (and/or) TV driven education. Netflix is hardly alone, there’s Google, Verizon, Amazon, and scores of others ‘hot’ in technology and cannot wait to infiltrate our families with ‘education’.

Enter Quest TV:

While most of the attention for TV indoctrination has been obvious on cable and satellite TV, what about good, old-fashioned antenna TV? Warriors, if you have an antenna and receive PBS (Public Broadcasting System), that’s a start. But what about your local CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, or, other networks?

What I’ve found is that they, too, are opening up channels on your antenna feed exclusively for education-that-doesn’t-feel-like-education-but-is. Especially for STEM. One such channel? Quest TV. This one is fairly new (at least in my neck of the woods). It’s 24/7 access to ‘entertain and inform’. Simply look at the leaders behind Quest TV and you have to wonder no more about the intent. Former leaders from NBC (US and globally), National Geographic, Discovery Channel, ABC, and, Kraft. Warriors, every single one of these groups is a CCSS Machine member. What’s worse is that every one of these uses the UN-driven STEM as well.

While all that seems bad enough, what we should also consider is the presence of a former leader of SyncSense. What’s that? Look below at a screen shot from their website:

If you cannot read the description of Syncsense in the picture, “When audiovisual content spikes the brain, you’ve captured the viewer’s attention. We optimize content to drive spikes or brain synchronization-without changing the creative. SyncScore then measures the effectiveness of media elements causing those spikes.”

If you’re not exactly sure what the ‘brain spikes’ and data mining mean? Think:
attention grabbing and retaining information, which keeps you coming back to watch more TV. (a 2013 article explains this). Another article explains that the reason these brain spikes are so important is due to the fact we see and hear, so taking in information in short visual bursts is ideal.

Apply this concept to all the computer time students have thanks to the CCSS Machine. If you’d like more research into the how and why this type of activity happens in the human brain, visit this blog.

Warriors, while it is fantastic how our brains are wired, it is terrible how the CCSS Machine has turned that into manipulation!

Warriors, is it any wonder the shift in TV is so successful? I know many researchers have studied this topic for years, but add to it the digital learning, global push and it indeed spells massive trouble for entire families, not just students! Notice that some of the same groups in the CCSS Machine also are clients of SyncSense.

Enter the NIH (National Institutes of Health):

Warriors, did you know the NIH, back in 2014, had a research article exposing CCSS was BAD for students? Here’s the excerpt:

“Today, the US government, facing numerous educational failures, has developed the Core Curriculum, which proposes to address the needs of all students (5). The Core Curriculum assumes children have homogeneous gifts and weaknesses and, thus, applies one standard for all students. Yet, we are learning that this is absolutely the wrong approach.”

Yet, in the same article, it cited that ‘critical thinking’ is a ‘must’ for education. Warriors, as we know the CCSS Machine’s ‘critical thinking’ is not true critical thinking. The CCSS version is about ‘what to think’ not ‘how to think’.

Fast forward to today, and the NIH is EVEN more involved in education. Why? ESSA (as a law) increased the choke hold on education by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services. NIH is a key part of the HHS.

Conflicting “Evidence” From the NISCE:

In 2013, the NISCE (National Institute for Student-Centered Education) held a “Learning and Brain” Conference. During this Conference, it was widely shared and taught that CCSS was GOOD for neuroscience and student’s brains.

Warriors, if you are not sure what the NISCE does, it is an arm of the Schools for Children, Inc. According to the homepage for NISCE, their goal is the center of education being students, not tests or politics. While I can find no activity for NISCE beyond 2015, take a look through their website’s search results for “Common Core”. You’ll see 21st Century schools/skills and more.

If you’re not sure what Schools for Children, Inc. does, look below:

s4cIf you cannot read the words, basically Schools for Children, Inc. puts students needs first. Then, fills educational gaps. Followed by your school leaders receiving the right professional development. Then, the families and communities are factored in for a quality education. HOWEVER, read the SfC history and you’ll find the roots are in CBE (competency based education) via skill based learning. Be sure to read all three pages of the history. You should see the CCSS Machine agenda woven throughout it, just not by name.

Listed among the ‘Educator Resources’ for Schools for Children, Inc. is the ASCDNAIS, and the ISTE (*Note: ASCD is short for Association of School Curriculum Developers; NAIS is short for National Association of Independent Schools; ISTE is short for International Society of Technology in Education.)

Closing:

Warriors, make no mistake, during school hours or outside them. The CCSS Machine is after every one of us. What can you do? Unplug the TV and spend a family night watching the stars, having a pillow fight, or just hanging out. Instead of tuning in, try tuning out the indoctrination and fodder of the global grab for our brains.

Education Relationships

To My  Anti Fed Ed Warriors, I hope the exposure of federal legislative bills has been helpful. I know it’s been eye opening.

While it’s taken several articles to cover them, I’d like to think I’m almost through. However, I’m not.

S 2084 “Community Partnerships in Education Act”:

Warriors, this bill (Sponsored by Sen. Whitehouse, RI) was introduced back in November 2017. It’s currently in the Senate HELP Committee. Before I get to the details of S 2084, let’s examine the Senator’s stance on education:

Warriors, the way ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) was written and passed into federal law, education took a ‘back seat’ to economic gain (for global competitiveness) AND workforce alignment. A ‘classic’ CCSS Machine move.

If you look at the many bills this Senator has either sponsored or co-sponsored, you’ll see similar CCSS Machine agenda items popping up. For example, his Museum and Library Act of 2017; his legislation connecting the federal government to Pell Grants. Then, there’s an amendment to the HEA (Higher Education Act), as well as a ‘biomedical innovation funding’ bill. Biomedical innovation” is being factored into education more rapidly than ever. (*Note: if you are not sure how Museum and Library Grants can be tied to the CCSS Machine, go here.)

Warriors, HEA is the LAST link (law) to receive a ‘makeover’.
Leading the charge to re-write the HEA? Sen. Lamar Alexander. (Over in the House, it’s Rep. Virginia Foxx.) Both are 100% sold out to the CCSS Machine.

Reading Between The Lines:

From S 2084’s pages, Warriors, these federal strings in education:
Page 3 reveals that the Carl Perkins Act will be amended. If you’re not sure how the  assessments tied to all those 21st Century Skills will be impacted by this amendment, look below. It’s the existing language from 2006:

What’s really interesting, however, Warriors, is that at the top of the page from the US Code Office, it plainly states that the “Text contains those laws in effect on March 1, 2018”.
I urge you to read this resource! You’ll see how more federal (supposedly with the States cooperation) data mining has been embedded and will INCREASE with a bill like S 2084.

Sen. Whitehouse’s S 2084 will insert more P3s in our classrooms. (P3s are public private partnerships). ESSA’s language mandated an increase in P3s in education. WHY? Because our education MUST be aligned to workforce needs. Somehow, the P3s know more about education than the teachers.

HR 4272 (Community Partnerships in Education Act)

Warriors, this Bill is also sponsored by a RI legislator (Rep. Cicilline). However, this one has several  OTHER co-sponsors. By no coincidence, HR 4272 was introduced at the same time as S 2084. These 2 bills are 19 pages, have the same language, AND are being led from Rhode Island legislators.

From the press releases on Rep. Cicilline’s website, look at the ‘bragging’ that’s being done:

Warriors, this is awful! Not only do these RI elected leaders, promote this aligned agenda, they are working together to pull it off!
Cicilline’s bill increases non profits in education. Especially for CTE (Career Tech Education, the ‘adult’ workforce training portion of the CCSS Machine) AND STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math). It also seeks to add 21st Century Skills Attainment as a performance accountability portion of every State’s education plan.

Warriors, we know ESSA gave more educational power to the federal government and not the States. This is further evidence that the ESSA mandates (more P3s, more CTE, more STEM, more wrap around community alignment via after school programs, etc.) are being carried out via NEW LEGISLATION! Possible NEW laws for MORE federal level (and less, local) control.


Reading Between These Lines:

Within HR 4272, you’ll find the Bill has two purposes. The first is to insert non-profits and  intermediaries into local schools. These groups will be responsible for not only planning what it taught, but carrying it out. The second is to amend the HEA.

You’ll also find that Perkins funding (used in higher education but calculated on the number of 5 to 17 years old students in each State) is going to be used to help pay for the ‘community partners’. By doing this, the door for more CTE and STEM will be mandatory.

To accomplish this type of move, the Carl Perkins CTE Act of 2006 must be amended. This will also factor in the insertion of the ’21st Century Skills’ as an accountability measure. What makes up those skills? Not educators!

“21st century skills (such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration)” (From Page 3 of HR 4272)

Data mining, assessments (you have to have those to measure how attainable 21st Century Skills are), and, professional development for CTE and STEM will come with HR 4272.

The TRIO programs currently under HEA’s governance will also be thrown into the mix. This is how HR 4272 will amend the Higher Education Act. You’ll also find the GEAR UP programs involved. The U.S. Secretary of Education will ‘encourage’ community partners to seek grants to help carry out the aligned workforce education.

Lastly, for HR 4272, the U.S. Secretary of Education will get to determine what existing education programs will be maintained AND create room for EXPANDING others.

Does this sound like LESS federal control, Warriors?!

Big City, Private Education

Warriors, I was recently contacted by a concerned Anti CCSS Warrior from a big city in Texas. My fellow Warrior lives in Houston. She also is involved in a faith-based private school. The photos she sent me have been troubling her. She wants to know when the shift from academics to workforce took over her church’s school.

Previously, Warriors, I’ve shared with you a few articles about the Catholic Church’s leap from academics to Common Core (or, as it is now called, ‘College and Career Readiness’ or “Challenging State Academic Standards” found in ESSA, Every Student Succeeds Act). You also may remember how the private, faith-based schools are tied to a newer wave of education called ‘micro schools’. The Catholic Church has been targeted by this movement based on its love of serving communities.

If you’ve followed my blog for a long time, you’ll remember the articles about private education using CCSS aligned assessments.  That article shared an account of a distraught mother and the private Catholic school her children attended.

However, Warriors, this latest mom is from the Lutheran church. She has allowed me to share her evidence.

Let me pause long enough to answer one of her questions. She has asked me when did the Lutheran church schools sell out to the CCSS Machine? I cannot say for every single church school, but I can share that 3 large Lutheran bodies belong to the CAPE (Council for American Private Education). Look below:

Mom Supplied Evidence:

“Maggie”, as I’ll refer to her shared that her Lutheran Church recently joined forces with a more liberal Lutheran sect, Lutheran Social Services. This now allows the Social Service group to run a school. From the slides shown at a meeting about the school, Maggie noticed a definite shift. Tell me what you see, Warriors.

Other slides Maggie sent me were geared around how all this education shift was a great “Christian” thing to do. It was hyped as ‘opportunity’. There were also more slides about the people in Upbring leading the school. These are a bit more fuzzy than the 2 above, but I will share them with you.

According to Maggie’s information, the LSS (Lutheran Social Services) is a federal government contractor for refugee resettlements. When you look at the LSS’s website, look at the community wide classes offered. All kinds of religion, just not Christianity.
I was able to find that others have written about this. What I discovered is it isn’t only TX this is happening.

This newest Upbring school in Maggie’s church will closely mirror the Austin, TX Upbring School of Arts and Science. That school uses the Reggio Emilia educational approach. If you do not recognize that early learning philosophy, think ‘child centered’, open classrooms, and ‘critical thinking’. USAS, Upbring School of Arts and Science is a STEAM curriculum user. Recently, I shared with you an Alabama elementary school which is a STEAM recognized school. (*Note: look below for the highlighted “STEM and STEAM” phrase to see that AL elementary school.)

For the Lutheran School being a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) means, “STEAM empowers students to connect what they learn about science, technology, engineering and math through the STEMscopes curriculum with reading, writing, music and other arts.”

STEMscopes is from Accelerate Learning in partnership with Rice University. It’s tied to NGSS (Next Gen Science Standards), and those ‘state standards’. According to the website, STEMscopes is the most widely used science program in the State of Texas in all types of PreK to 12th grade settings.

If you’re interested, Warriors, I found a thesis on how well Reggio Emilia, Project Based Learning and Common Core work together. The author gave big nods to John Dewey and then tied the research back to her major, psychology.

How Low Can We Go?

Warriors, I know we are all beleaguered by the awful impact the CCSS Machine has rendered upon our schools. But to do all this and then slap a faith-based label on it? I’m sorry Warriors, but to me, that’s pretty deceptive.

Warriors, I hope the evidence Maggie has provided paints the picture of just how much the CCSS Machine is overreaching into our lives. I hope you can see the agenda behind this type of reform in church based schools. If not, here it is:

Of the code names you see in the image above, almost every one of these can be traced back to the United Nations. Most especially STEM and STEAM. Maggie had asked me about those as well.

Warriors, we will not be free of the global agenda in education or in our nation as long as we are tied in ANY way to the UN. The US has invested too much time, taxpayer dollars, and, energy creating legislation (at all government levels) adhering to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Embedded in these Goals is the shift we’re seeing:

One type of education for everyone. One way to live and work. Attacking faith-based schools with this? It’s all part of the plan toward a one-way-to-believe-society.

Not For The Faint Hearted

Oh, my fellow Anti CCSS Warriors..We have seen so many awful things happen to education in the past few years together. We’ve seen an increase in the ‘workforce training’ being passed off as ‘academic prowess’.

We’ve seen shifts in how the attitudes, values, beliefs, and, thinking have become so twisted we may not recognize who our children are. Because ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) codified CCSS, we will continue to see unwelcome changes in our nation.

However, what’s changing our children right before our eyes?

Globalism, collectivism, Communism, Socialism, and…………

Because Globalism and all the other ‘isms’ are tied to Common Core (remember, the roots of CC are in the United Nations, which has  been traced to demonic activities and beliefs.)

Part of the ‘sales pitch’ surrounding all this? “Fun”. One of my previously published articles showed you how the ‘fun’ was a guise devised by Robert Muller to steer our children to workforce based education for a socialist benefit. While the article was pointing out how homeschoolers are being pulled into this.


Back in 2014, I wrote an article about Evil having no place in education. It shows you the awful connections between Bill Gates, UNESCO, the World Core Curriculum and the Lucifer Publishing Company.

However, it’s what follows, which is the truly unpleasant (downright disturbing) educational activities you need to know about.



ASSCs:

Warriors, that’s the abbreviation for the After School Satan Clubs in America. Maybe you remember the news from 2016 about the school district in GA which was being asked to start up an ASSC.

According to CBN’s (Christian Broadcasting Network) website, Clubs (as of 8/17) are in Los Angeles, Pensacola, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tacoma and Springfield, Missouri. Below, in the screen shot, notice the ‘fun’ pictures used to draw our children’s attention to the ASSCs:

According to all the sources, ASSCs are targeting similar Christian Clubs. I did not find any mention of any other faith based clubs being targeted.)


Warriors, according to all the information I found, these Clubs are available to all school choices, not simply public school children.  If the two smaller versions (above) don’t look ‘fun’ enough, look at the way the Satanic Temple ASSC’s page on their website has depicted the ‘mascot’:

Why the red and orange circles? The CCSS Machine has gone to great pains to sell the nation on how ‘great’ the critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, and character building are with the aligned curriculum and resources. These resources include after-school programs.

The 4Cs (collectivism, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity) are the anchors of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math). The 4Cs are the anchors of Common Core, Career and College Readiness, Next Gen Science, Career Tech Education, STEM, C3 (College, Career, and Civic Life) and whatever else CC’s been re-branded as (ie: “Future Ready”)

The 4Cs, College/Career Readiness, STEM, and all which connects them are embedded in ESSA, too! More globalism ties in ESSA include the “UDL”, Universal Design for Learning”, Universal Preschool, and, massive data mining to track students from cradle to grave.

You may also notice there’s a “Protect Children” campaign that also is a Satanic Temple project. It’s against corporal punishment. Below, is a picture of the letter they have available to send to your School Board against any type of corporal punishment, including isolation rooms:

Warriors, the video contained in this undated  Newsletter is downright chilling. Not because of the images, the background ‘song’.

According to the Forbes article about the ASSCs, the writer also thought the video was chilling. Temper that with this article from the Federalist. It carries the tone of  ‘let’s step back a minute’. While I think what the author is sharing is worth listening to, I know, as a Mom, there is MUCH to be watchful of anytime Satan enters the picture.


Warrior Concerns:

Why did I include the video, if it’s so creepy?

1) We need to know! How can we protect our students from the CCSS Machine if we do not know all the ways IT seeks to destroy our children? After all, so much is available to them on-line. Have they seen this video?! We must know! It must be discussed.

2) Warriors, we need to understand with Satanism comes mind control and mental health concerns (The Temple has a group known as the Grey Faction).

3) I am not stating mental activities will be carried on during an ASSC gathering. But look at the ‘art’ pages below in the pictures. Strong mental images.

4) Knowing how damaging the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is and how much of it is codified in ESSA, we should be VERY active in finding out what’s in our schools. With ESSA’s mandate for MORE after school, community wide programs, we MUST be very diligent in finding out what groups like the ASSCs are out there, how will they have access to your students? With the recent new appropriations from Congress which increase the amount of mental health ‘activities’ in/outside schools, we must DEMAND we be informed before any actions are taken!

Warriors, I know this is quite a bit to process. Believe me, I know. However, remember when I shared near the beginning that the CCSS Machine is rooted in the UN? So much of what’s above is also in the CCSS Machine. Is Satanism present in the United Nations?

From 2009, this article reveals the symbolism found in the New York headquarters. From 2016, this article from the New American Magazine ties the UN, Satanism, and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) together. The ‘common’ bond? It appears to be the combined efforts of Robert Muller and Alice Bailey (a known occultist).

Warriors, due to the season we are in, so close to Halloween, keep a watchful eye for anything which seems to harm your family (pets included). We know the CCSS Machine is full of tricks. We know ESSA is no gift of greatness for our education system. We understand the dangers of any ideas which do not fit our family belief system, MUST not be indoctrinated. 

Raising the Bar for $20K?

Anti CCSS/Fed Ed Warriors, we have heard the phrase ‘Raising the Bar’ SO many times by the CCSS Machine, it is probably one of those phrases we easily dismiss. However, I really wonder if we should.  Many pro CCSS educators/leaders/supporters will use the phrase to wax heroic over how great this year has been especially at graduation ceremonies; how the aligned education has served our school districts well (in testing, especially) and how it (lessons, alignment, and testing) will be even better next year; as well as to inspire everyone.

BUT…what are they really saying? What is really meant when ‘raising the bar’ is used to make next year (2017-18) sound ‘appealing’? From what I can tell, there is NO GOOD thing, much less, anything appealing for ANYONE in education in 2017-18.

The Truth in the Words:

“Raising the Bar” is a business phrase. NOT an educational one. The screen shot below is from a website for business people, not educators. It gives you a brief history of the phrase and its business roots..NOT educational roots.

During the noon time news, the slot below was shared as not only a great achievement by the CharMeck (Charlotte-Mecklenburg) School System, but used to congratulate the newly employed students. How does ‘raising the bar’ play into this story?
The CCSS Machine member CMS Superintendent used the phrase to spur listeners on in not only hopes for next year, but in anticipation of the scores, the end of year assessments will show.

CMS’s Raising the Bar (CCSS/Workforce Aligned Education) for $20K?

The Strategy Plan (titled ‘Strategic Plan 2018’) for workforce based education is NOT exclusive to CMS. It is in every state. CMS, however appears to based their strategy on a contest.

Yes, you read correctly..a contest! GE (General Electric, a HUGE P3 CCSS Machine member) conducted a global contest with a $20,000.00 prize.

Here is an excerpt of explanation given in the Strategic Plan 2018,
General Electric is an American company and a global giant. GE manufactures appliances, healthcare products, aviation and train engines, advanced energy  technology devices, medical equipment and more. The company’s Niskayuna, NY-based research lab draws on the expertise of its own engineers from around the world—and everyone else through online design contests. The recent GE Engine Bracket Challenge offered a reward to anyone who could design a lighter, better bracket for a jet engine to increase fuel efficiency. The prize was $20,000. The New York Times columnist Tom Friedman reports that, in all, 697 contestants from around the world – companies, individuals, graduate students and designers—competed, with a majority of them coming from outside the aviation industry. What did the GE contestants need to successfully compete? Higher-level thinking skills. Digital and technological competency and access. Literacy, numeracy and content mastery. Creativity and the ability to innovate. Motivation and the desire to compete. Communications and entrepreneurship skills to share ideas.”
Every student in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools today will enter a workforce that requires the same skills and competencies needed to successfully compete in the GE contest. In the rapidly changing workforce of tomorrow, jobs that require easily replicated, rote skills will be gone—automated or outsourced. The factory model job is gone and it’s not coming back. The jobs that remain will be those that require creativity, agility and critical thinking. It is our challenge—our privilege and responsibility as educators, caregivers and members of the community—to ensure that every student in every school leaves CMS with those skills and competencies. So why am I showing you CMS’s Strategy? It is the biggest school district in the State where I live. Again, look at the number graduating over the next few days from CMS: 9,000. That is larger than some towns! Each and every one of these young people has been force fed in the CCSS workforce based educational system.

The Charlotte news station was BRAGGING about it! The CMS Superintendent was glowing over it! All the while, the listeners are more than likely thinking, ‘great for everyone’. Graduates with jobs already!

Oh, when did all this Strategy TRULY begin? According to this CMS Plan, 2012. The date this Strategic Plan was published? 2013. I am sure if we dug deeper, we would find the foundation dates back further than 2012.

I am leaving you with one final screen shot from the CMS Strategic Plan 2018. I think you can see why. ‘Raising the bar’, whether in Charlotte, NC or elsewhere, is a BAD thing when the CCSS Machine is the force behind the educational reform. IF this is ‘raising the bar’, we are certainly ‘lowering our freedoms’.

FTF: Crossing into CCSS Land

Sometime in the last 2 weeks I promised you, my readers and followers, that I’d get back to looking into where CCSS/CTE hides in plain sight among us. Today, I’ll pick that trail back up. It’s a very important aspect of the CCSS Machine we shouldn’t ignore.

If you’ll recall, I’d just been to an educational conference which was targeting home educators. (see the original article:

) In the original article, I shared with you the grabs for attention marketers use to draw in folks from ALL educational choice avenues. Remember, those avenues could be a private charter, a public-private charter, a virtual school, a private school, a homeschool, or a faith-based school.

While the advertising may not always shout “Common Core” or “Common Core related”, look beyond the slick sales pitch and “Boom!” there you find it. UGH! What’s an anti CCSS Warrior to do? Get informed, show others, and help beat the CCSS Machine’s propaganda. The remainder of today’s article will look at some other curricula sources with CCSS  ties.

Why Would Companies Want to Be Overt?:

This is a question I’ve asked myself a million times. Especially considering how many companies know they can reach those in private education (which, in my current state of residence {NC}, includes home education). I firmly believe it has a two-fold purpose: a) makes the company more profitable b) feeds the lie that somehow those students who aren’t using CCSS tied resources will be left out, fall behind, or not measure up. What a crock of CCSS crap! (pardon my language, please)

“The Critical Thinking Company” (http://www.criticalthinking.com/full-curriculum):

A long-time trusted resource for many who choose to educate outside the traditional public schools. They’ve also thrown their hat into the CCSS ring. Here’s a portion of their statement:
“The skills and concepts taught in our products are the result of our surveys of state and national educational standards. We will continue to avoid any topic in any set of standards that is overtly political. We firmly believe it is not our place to attempt to influence the politics or values of any student. Most Common Core Standards are already found in various state standards, but the list of Common Core Standards is not complete. Since a large number of states (45) have signed on to Common Core Standards, The Critical Thinking Co. will now include Common Core Standards in its broad survey of state and national standards to determine the skills and concepts taught in each grade level subject, but we will not base our products solely on any one set of standards.”

Warrior Warning: Critical thinking is NOT in its purest form in the Common Core Standards. Research and proof of this is available. There are alternatives to Common Core with critical thinking that ARE in a pure form. Don’t be fooled by the CCSS Machine’s weak argument that ‘critical thinking’ via the Standards is worthy.

“Kumon Learning Centers” (http://www.kumon.com/resources/kumon-and-the-common-core/):

Kumon’s website tells you they aren’t necessarily aligning to the CCSS, but they are certainly in the game of augmenting it. See for yourselves with their statement on literature: “With over 50 years of experience, Kumon is internationally benchmarked and contains the elements essential for studying college-level calculus and advanced literary texts such as Shakespeare. The Common Core aims to be internationally benchmarked, has a broad array of learning goals and shares many core competencies such as proficiency in advanced algebra and understanding Shakespeare.

Warrior Warning: Research and proof have shown how Shakespeare are advanced algebra are used in Common Core. 

“Learning By Grace” an Online Homeschool, (http://www.learningbygrace.org/):

This is indeed one of the trickiest brochures I’ve seen. If you aren’t super observant, the highly identifiable logos of PearsonMacGraw-Hill, or, the many others there will go unnoticed..and that’s, I believe, the plan of the those running the CCSS Machine. Here’s a screen shot to show you.

(*Note: Let me pause here to point out that not only are these resources available to home educators, but in some cases these are used in private schools, private charters, or by those in the more traditional education choices as extra curricular resources. When it comes to Common Core, we must investigate the resources carefully!)

Funcation Academy, (www.funcationacademy.com):

This one is very puzzling to me. The flyer I received said absolutely nothing about Common Core. The website has almost no information about the Standards, that is easily seen. The mission statement certainly doesn’t tell you anything that would be identifiable as CCSS related. However, visit the virtual academy and slowly the CCSS begins to appear. For example in the ‘enrichment programs’ you’ll see the “IReady” program. “IReady” is from Curriculum Associates. CA is most definitely CCSS aligned. The “Funcation” site is based in FL, however, the Curriculum Associates page I’m providing as proof of evidence for CCSS alignment features NC (North Carolina). When I spied the booth for this company, even the slogan used caused me to wonder about the connection to CCSS. “Combining the Science of Reading with the Joy of Learning”.  Once on the website, the suspicions were confirmed. In the K-1st grades, a program of theirs called “Foundations” is 100% aligned to the Common Core. Don’t take my word for it, read theirs, Foundations takes children from non-readers to independent readers over the course of three engaging and multi-sensory levels of language arts instruction. to the issue of usurping education. I’m pretty sure that both would certainly cry “Foul!” when it comes to the level of ‘thinking and reasoning’ happening in Common Core classrooms–especially when it comes to critical skills.

The problem: Today’s critical thinking is NOT what our ancestors had in mind!

According to the “Critical Thinking Movement” website, Socrates is credited with discovering probing questions. He also encouraged folks to question authority. After all, just because they are in a powerful position DOESN’T mean they are smarter than those they govern. Socrates also developed how to use evidence, examination of reasoning, analyzing, and the skill of what to do with implications. Plato, of course, was the student of Socrates and is the one who wrote down all Socrates words. Between the both, they pretty much set the standard  way we’ve taught each other since then when it comes to  ‘reflectively question common beliefs and explanations, carefully distinguishing those beliefs that are reasonable and logical from those which — however appealing they may be to our native egocentrism, however much they serve our vested interests, however comfortable or comforting they may be — lack adequate evidence or rational foundation to warrant our belief.’

Today’s Common Core Standards would like to have us think like the great thinkers, but the honest truth is, the Standards are abysmal in this area. Common Core seeks to have us conform to common group based beliefs, to think in an agenda mindset that’s not our own. How do I know this? CCSS is missing the ONE thing Socrates and Plato had going for them..empirical evidence. Consider this bit of knowledge (also from the Critical Thinking Movement website which I will paraphrase)

According to those directing the exercises requiring critical thinking, motivations can be manipulated to suit the ‘vested interests’. This totally discounts any fair minded person. It also promotes selfishness. Critical thinking is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ subject and it certainly is not able to be carried out in the same way in all people. The level of critical thinking is very much dependent on a number of factors involved. If someone has a learning disability, critical thinking will be markedly different than someone who doesn’t have one. Those younger than others will have almost no critical thinking skills as they are not yet mature enough. To learn to think well, critically, you need many years, perhaps a lifetime.

Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’:

While this allegory, when traditionally taught, isn’t for younger students, it should be high school or college classes. However,  I’m using it as an example of the shift in critical thinking. First, watch this short You Tube video:

Then, consider these questions, NOT aligned to Common Core, a) What justice is described in the allegory? b) How would you relate this allegory to some of Plato’s other works? c) Since it’s been established Plato loved truth, what truth do you suppose he was conveying here? d) Where will you find the “Allegory of the Cave” in the Plato’s Republic? Of the 3 allegories Plato wrote, this one is the most __________________? (As to the first 3 questions, these would be various answers depending on your students; you’ll find the Cave allegory in book 7, and it was the most interesting of the Allegory of the Sun, The Dividing Line, and Allegory of the Cave). The text explains the the ‘Allegory of the Cave’ is about many truths, such as religion, education, perception, etc.

Now, check out the modern, CCSS spin for the same allegory which is set to be taught to 10th graders,  a) “After reading Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave,” write a community newspaper article in which you analyze the allegory of the cave as an allegory for education, providing examples to clarify your analysis.” b)  “The seminar text for this module is the excerpt from Plato’s The Republic commonly known as “The Allegory of the Cave.” The written product that students will produce as a final product is an essay that analyzes what “The Allegory of the Cave” teaches us about the value of an education. The initial audience is each student’s parents or guardians, and this essay is intended to be used as a starting point for a serious discussion between students and their parents/guardians about their ambitions for the future”. (source:http://www.paideia.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/True-and-Good-Allegory-of-Cave-Module.pdf) **Did you notice the CCSS quote, in one line, didn’t  use proper punctuation where the title of Plato’s work is concerned?!**

The more I tried to find other CCSS aligned assignments for this particular work of Plato’s the more ridiculous the resources became. What only needs reading and/or viewing,  followed with  discussion has been turned into a 3 ring circus of  too much fluff and not enough substance! I mean, seriously, I saw ‘flipped classroom honors plans that go from the simple work of reading and understanding to let’s find any possible shred of something connected to Plato, but then, not really and let’s throw it in there…especially if it’s a TEDTalk! I saw plans for first grade, fourth grade, fifth grade, tenth grade, twelfth grade. Did you notice the ‘theme’ to the ‘before and after’ CCSS when it came to the “Allegory of the Cave”? Real questions for real thinking in the ‘beforeCCSS’, absolutely no questions in the ‘after’, but an assignment for a community newspaper. Totally leaving out some of the most valid critical thinking points from the allegory and focusing in on ‘education’. Nice, work, Common Core..no agenda hidden there, is it?!

The solution:

In my opinion, the solution to true critical thinking is NOT Common Core, nor is it a modern approach. Rather, go back to the masters, the tried, the true. Let’s remember that because each person is so different, thinking skills, especially critical cannot begin too soon and cannot be too difficult. Just like running before you learn to walk..IF it happens, it usually doesn’t work as good as if you take walking in small, orderly steps before running. Not every person should think the same, let alone be taught in a group setting how to accomplish something so personal as the thought process. Certainly, cover the appropriate portions of the subject that are best suited for groups AND then take the more personal portions and approach those differently.

There needs to be a return to sanity in how sensitive things like critical skills are taught. Yes, with thinking, you can go both ‘deep’ and ‘broad’ in it!! In fact, the brain is well suited for in-depth thinking and/or not so in-depth. We need to ditch the lie that there’s a preference between ‘deep’ and ‘broad’ (as in the tired, worn out buzz phrase ‘an inch wide and a mile deep’) Sometimes you need an inch deep and a mile wide, sometimes you don’t.

True critical thinking, at least from Socrates and Plato’s view, welcomed all kinds of thinking. The beauty wasn’t in the quantity of thought or how ‘deep’ the thought, it was are you questioning the status quo? Are you seeking out truth? Why? Because back then, just as today, TRUTH stands the test of time; TRUTH wins over lies; TRUTH needs no scandal, re-alignment, or trumped out, fussy lessons full of hot air. TRUTH divides, that is a fact, but from what I’ve learned about CCSS, we not only should be divided from it, we should have CCSS laid to rest in a hemlock box. Then, I’d let Socrates, Plato, and our newly liberated students dance on that hemlock box.
