Big Bucks for Post Secondary Ed

fedledposted

In this final in-depth look at the massive amount of taxpayer money being requested to continue the CCSS Machine’s overreach into education (at all levels), we will see what portions of the almost $70 billion will go to post-secondary education. A part of Common Core, Career Tech Education, College and Career Readiness, I have researched well over the past 5+ years.

Like the previous 2 articles, I will connect the programs to how they are not only embedded in legislation (such as ESSA {Every Student Succeeds Act}, but others like the ACPA {America’s College Promise Act 2015} and the HEA {Higher Education Act}.

First Up: The Big Bucks for Post-Secondary Education:

1) Via the America’s College Promise (ACP) “Through an investment of $61 billion over the next decade, students would be able to earn the first half of a bachelor’s degree or an associate degree and earn the skills needed to succeed in the workforce – at no cost.”
The justification for this amount of money continues with, ACP also would provide grants to schools that support new low-income students, including those transferring from a community college. Students would be able to receive up to two years of college at these institutions at zero or significantly reduced tuition.”
While the U.S. Dept. of Ed Blog states what you see above, the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s Fact Sheet tells you a bit more. ACP, which would create a new partnership with States to make two years of community college free for responsible students..”

*What is noteworthy here is when you click on the embedded link to find out more about ACP, you are taken to a Fact Sheet for the America’s College Promise Act of 2015. (see Related Resources)

If you think community colleges are CCSS Machine-free (meaning not full of CCSS, CTE, and/or CCR {Common Core State Standards, Career Tech Education, and/or College Career Readiness} consider these:
a) The SREB (Southern Regional Education Board), a big CCSS Machine member has gone out of its way to use community colleges for a preK to PhD alignment. See my article (full of facts and embedded links to the documents):
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/25/sic-em-saturday-using-community-colleges-for-more-core/
b) The Adult CCSS Standards written by some of the same members of the other CCS StandardsCCRStandardsAdultEd

As far as the CCSS Machine’s presence in 4 year colleges and universities, both public and private, here are few other resources to help you connect all this. These are in no way the only institutions involved in the CCSS Machine.

a) Career Pathways (part of the CTE ‘arm of CCSS‘) got its start from a partnership between Harvard University and Pearson Publishing as a response to their ‘Pathways to Prosperity Study’. See this article for this and how national career credentials factor in:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/09/03/tech-thursday-just-say-no-to-nocc/
b) Some Christian Colleges are using or teaching CCSS:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/05/fom-friday-christian-colleges-exempt-from-common-core-not/
c) The purposed  plan for aligning K-12 and post-secondary education can best be learned about from this document from
Lumina (a big CCSS Machine member):
A_path_to_alignment
d) A visual aid to help you see some of the bridging going on is below. It is from Illinois. The entire article:

ILP
According to the report, there are many different names for the same agenda via Career Tech Education, Career Pathways, Common Core, and more.

(If you need to enlarge the picture, please click on it)

2) Thirty million for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and MSI (Minority Serving Institutions) is also included in the Budget Request. The targeted population? Low-income students. Where are the CCSS Machine ties for them? For one, the Urban League. See my article (dates back to Sec. Duncan): https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/03/fom-duncan-extols-upcoming-esea-renewal/
Then there are the  National Council of La Raza/United Negro College Fund ties: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/08/31/monday-musings-more-parent-ccss-alignment/

3) ‘First in the World Initiative’ will get $100 million including $30 million for schools in the included in #2. FY 2017 will be the 3rd round of funding for FITW (First in the World). It debuted in 2014. Why all the money? Evidence based research for student success in post-secondary education. Especially for ‘student outcomes’. In anti CCSS language that is a huge clue for OBE (Outcome Based Education).
The U.S. Dept. of Ed has a very generic explanation of just what FITW is. See: http://www2.ed.gov/programs/fitw/index.html

If you want a bit more information about FITW, head to the Office where FITW is embedded in, the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education. There you will see how our Veterans are involved, that there is a huge database of information, and other need-to-know items. See: http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/fipse/index.html

How will this tie back to the CCSS Machine? From the U.S. Dept. of Education side: CTE-Career Tech Education, TRIO Programs,  and more! From the U.S. Labor sideAmerican Apprenticeship Initiative, WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity) programs, and more!
See the Ed’s ties: http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ovae/pi/grntprgm.html
See the Labor’s ties: http://www.dol.gov/featured/apprenticeship/grants (as of 2015,$175 million in grants has been awarded across America). Just one of the WIOA related programs tied to the CCSS Machine: JDGs (Job Development Grants) . How do I know? Research! For the TRIO/Workforce ties: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/03/19/tech-thursday-ccss-workforce-pushing-labor-reform/
For the JDG ties: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/wybi-job-development-grants-and-ccss/

Next Up: It’s All in the Name of Savings:

Written into the Budget Request are a few of the taxpayer/student savings to be had. However, are these truly savings or simply more ties to bind us all to the CCSS Machine?
Pell Grants, according to the Ed’s Blog will be raised above inflation AFTER 2017. To see the parameters of what Pells offer NOW, see: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/types/grants-scholarships/pell
What does the Ed’s Fact Sheet tell us the Blog didn’t? There are to be incentives for accelerated completion of the Pell Grant applications for students and a one time bonus of $300.00 through an ‘On Track Pell Grant Program’. There are a few other items as well. Be sure to access the full Fact Sheet from the Related Resources below.
To learn more about both of these I have pointed you to, see:
http://www.ed.gov/news/press-releases/fact-sheet-helping-more-americans-complete-college-new-proposals-success
*What is noteworthy is look at where the authority is coming from.

You will also see in the Fed Ed Budget Request,  FASFA didn’t get left out of the savings. FASFA, short for ‘Free Application for Federal Student Aid’. In the Ed Blog, we are only told that FASFA will be less complicated and will need to be completed earlier than previously required. What does the Fact Sheet share? No dollar amounts, but lots of parameters. Look on Page 7 of the document.

What you won’t get about the ‘savings’ to taxpayers/students is the strings attached. These strings are not just for our families and students, but entire post-secondary institutions! What do I mean? I am including an article I previously published which will tell you much more about how the college rating system, the HEA, FASFA, and education reform based on the CCSS Machine intersect. Better yet, there is a video where you can hear it for yourselves! See:

Closing:

I couldn’t resist sharing with you, my fellow anti CCSS Warriors, a direct quote from the U.S. Dept. of Ed’s Fact Sheet explaining where all the billions of taxpayer money is going.
“Yet while it is important to take stock of our progress, this Budget is not about looking back at the road we have traveled. It is about looking forward and making sure our economy works for everybody, not just those at the top. It is about choosing investments that not only make us stronger today, but also reflect the kind of country we aspire to be – the kind of country we want to pass on to our children and grandchildren.”

I know, you, like myself, are determined to preserve a country truly worthy of passing on. From where I sit, it WILL NOT include ANYTHING connected to the CCSS Machine!

Monday Musings: Is There a Better Way?

We've got the sight set for wiping out CCSS. Let's set our sights on CTE, too!
We’ve got the sight set for wiping out CCSS. Let’s set our sights on CTE, too!

Anti CCSS Warriors, we’ve made progress in the battle for wiping out CCSS, we’re on the move to now include the adult version, CTE. After going on another ‘undercover’ research trip into the ‘world of education’ this weekend, I came away with a few muse worthy findings. These, of course, lead to questions we Warriors need to consider in this extremely important ‘War Against the Core’!

What I Discovered:

1) A definite shift in what is being highlighted at educational conventions, conferences from academics to services.
2) A distinct ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ aura. I saw this in action with one educational service where the parents, teachers, and students were drawn in like flies. The service is 100% aligned to CCSS, CTE, yet THAT fact was no where in sight. What was? Colorful prizes, discounts for signing up right away, and how much smarter your child would be by learning to read with a computer leading the way.
3) Since I’ve attended many, many educational conventions, conferences, symposiums, curriculum fairs, and the like, I know where the focus has been and is now shifting. I’ve been able to meet and interact with educators of ALL types, in all the different choices out there. Of all the folks I met with on this particular journey, less than 1 dozen noticed what I did…that educating our students in academics is being changed right before our eyes.
4) Laws in different states are also being updated to reflect the need for more accrediting from those schools which have, up to now, been just fine in graduating students. An example? Changing the scholarship requirements from ‘open to all graduating seniors’ to ‘open to graduating seniors with an accredited diploma’. For some schools, like homeschools, this will continue to be a warning sign of more control, more alignment to the ‘more traditional system’.

What’s The Solution?

In a recent conversation with a education professor who’s also an author and holds a doctoral degree, we were sharing how it’s been great to have so much information point to what’s wrong about Common Core and it’s ‘cousin’, Career and Technical Education, but who’s got a solution to offer as an alternative? This is a great question for us to not only ponder, but to get busy on. Our legislators are being bamboozled by the giant CCSS Machine, the Business RoundTable, the Chambers of Commerce on the “Who, When, Where, Why, and How” of CCSS/CTE. Very few of these elected men and women have seen the light that we, the anti CCSS Warriors have.

I’ve shared with you, as have others opposed to the CCSS Machine, there has been a credible solution offered by a dedicated group of NC citizens for the K-12 educational system. The “NC Plan” has been publicized nation wide as a worthy, CCSS free framework.
Freedom Project Education has purposed itself to be 100% CCSS free in its K-12 virtual school. However, as the professor and I were sharing in our conversation, we MUST have an alternative for the Post-Secondary CCSS/CTE overhaul. If we don’t all the K-12 CCSS free moves will be absolutely negated. The assessments, the data mining, and other K-12 CCSS tools are also in post-secondary education. We’d like to see those go away, too.

The CCSS Machine will be 100% successful in claiming all the post-secondary students it possibly can IF we, the anti CCSS Warriors, do not focus on this huge, yet under-discussed issue. Remember, post-secondary education encompasses EVERY citizen in this nation, who chooses to return to the classroom. EVERY taxpayer’s hard earned dollar is going to help fund (as it already has been doing) the CCSS/CTE alignment.

There are others out there just as purposed to freeing the post-secondary educational world of CCSS/CTE. There are a few institutions NOT CCSS/CTE aligned. However, with the rewriting of the ESEA of 1965 (Elementary and Secondary Education Act), the recent passages of BOTH the HR5 and S1177 (Student Success Act/Every Child Achieves Act, respectively), AND the up-coming bills for “College Promise” Act, updated “Higher Education” Act, any school receiving any type of federal education (and in most cases state education) dollars, will have NO choice in remaining free of the CCSS/CTE agenda. In short, all of the above cement the bridge between K-12 and post-secondary education.

We know, now, how the post-secondary educational world has been helpful in creating and continuing Common Core. We know, now, how post-secondary institutions are being turned into a grooming parlor for more CCSS/CTE drones. (examples of this can be found in my older articles about the colleges where education majors are being taught to teach only CCSS/CTE)

We know, without the shadow of a doubt our time to have a CCSS/CTE free America is short.

I urge you to contact Sen. Mike Lee, who is seeking folks like us to address the post-secondary educational dilemma.  His current higher education proposal(known as the HERO Act) is a start. While, from the summary, reads like another way to streamline education, it’s an avenue for feedback, we’ve not had before. By us providing people of influence with the credible facts and research we have about the CCSS Machine in post-secondary education, I think we can make a big difference. I’ve reached out to the Senator. I hope you, as my comrades, will do the same.

If not Sen. Lee, then someone similar whom you know will help us fight the CCSS Machine. There are at least 2 other Senators, concerned about the reformation of higher education, see: http://www.goacta.org/the_forum/senators_embrace_higher_ed_reform_agenda

Remember, we have the Machine in our sights. Let’s hit the bullseye, anti CCSS Warriors!

http://www.lee.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/higher-education-reform-and-college-opportunity
http://www.lee.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/higher-education-reform-and-college-opportunity

Finally, if you know of any other legislators, state or federal level, who join us as opposed to the CCSS Machine, please leave a comment to this article sharing his or her name and contact information.  We’ve got to work together to provide an alternative to a CCSS/CTE aligned education, no matter at what level it is.

FOM: Congress 2015

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

Oh, my dear anti CCSS Warriors, I am SO glad you are still here! We’ve had time to shake the surprise off our faces, get our hearts back to a more healthy rhythm, and, recognize those members of Congress who stood up for our students and voted “NO”. Thankfully, some of the Senators listened to US, the unpaid, non CCSS aligned families out there. However, like the House of Representatives, we’ve seen those in the Senate who chose to absolutely ignore us, vote against us.
Instead of heeding the plethora of TRUTH we, the citizens, the very ones they were elected to REPRESENT, both chambers of Congress, by voting to pass HR5 and S1177, have turned a deaf ear to we the people. In short: betrayal.  Yes, a very strong word, however. After researching so deeply into the national standards (that’s what they were before the brand name), I think I’m qualified to make that strong of a statement. However, I am far from alone in this reality. Many before me have stated words with this meaning.

Now, please know that Common Core will NOT be going away. We’ve been able to prove several times over how it isn’t. Congress bought the lies of the litany of groups they sought out, yet, the very constituents they SERVE, were left alone. We spotted that every time any of the Congress members who dared to utter ‘we’ve had input from all stakeholders’. Missed it? Visit the anti CC Facebook groups, or log onto Twitter and read the tweets from an anti CC warrior’s reaction to such an ego-inflated statement. Here’s just one of the few which scrolled across my screen. Remember, this “Total Truth”, the Senate took 1 week to ‘debate’ S1177. That’s multiple days and many Senators stating how many involved +stakeholders weighed in. Yeah, that’s right Senate..the “Real Total Truth” is: not the Parents opposed to CCSS. Even AFTER countless hours of contact and interaction with you!

congressmemory

Believe me, there are plenty more comment like that. Every one of them are absolutely true. I’m not weighing today’s article down with samples. You know where to look, beginning with in the mirror.

More “Total Truth” from yesterday’s melee in D.C.:

The President of the CCSSO released this via Twitter, see if you can spot her “Total Fallacy”:

Atkinson states this as if 'Total Truth' to the rest of the planet.
Atkinson states this as if ‘Total Truth’ to the rest of the planet.

Speaking of the CCSSO, 1/2 owner of the Common Core Standards, and heralded by Sen. Alexander as one of the main groups which help write S1177 (will give you that information in a bit), broke the news of the S1177 passage 4 minutes before the final vote count was given by the Senate! How do I know this? While watching the live webcast and monitoring Twitter, I noticed the following appear. What struck me as ‘rat like’ was the final count hadn’t even been announced. Talk about a ‘tlpped hand’.

Look at the RED tweet.
Look at the RED tweet.

If you’d like to see the press release given by the CCSSO: http://www.ccsso.org/News_and_Events/Press_Releases/CCSSO_Applauds_Senate_Action_on_ESEA_Reauthorization.html

Did the Senate’s log for July 16th verify CCSSO’s preemptive tweet? According to http://www.dailypress.senate.gov/, the time stamp for the final vote was 2:39 pm. I’m sure somewhere out there is a exact time stamp for all those tweets. Compare the 2 for yourselves and see the “Total Truth” revealed. Grounds for a Constitutional lawsuit? I think, the entire CCSS Machine’s tyranny is grounds. If you know a Constitutional lawyer, share this with them. If ever we anti CCSS warriors needed a loophole, we may just be staring the best one in the face. However, I’m not a lawyer.

The official, and thus, binding record.
The official, and thus, binding record.

For more “Total Truth”, including word for word scripts (so you can read all those shout outs to the pro CCSS groups given on the Senate floor/passionate speeches by those who dared to say ‘not on my watch’) See: http://www.congress.gov/congressional-record#daily-digest-highlights-senate (*Note you can also access the House of Representatives same information from this website.) If you want only the ‘highlights’, they are there, if you want to see everything that was said surrounding that highlight, simply click on the page number (will be highlighted in blue). Since it’s on record, it’s 100% official.

One Last “Total Truth”:

For quite some time, I’ve been giving you researched and documented proof that CCSS was embedded in post secondary education. You’ve also been privy to the fact that CCS/CTE/CCR (Common Core Standards, Career and Technical Education, College/Career Readiness) is thoroughly embedded in the upcoming bills for “College Promise Act” and the “HEA, Higher Education(re-authorization) Act”. Thanks to the gloating of one U.S. Senator in response to another U.S. Senator, we have it on audio/video that Sen. Alexander states “HEA” is next.  However, we knew that!! My point, we’ve got plenty of work to do, but thank the good Lord, we’ve got a bit of a lead. Let’s use it!
Remember, one of the main agenda items for the CCSS Machine is birth to grave control of education.
Finally, hang on to the fact that HR5/S1177 haven’t been approved by their opposing bodies OR signed by the President. Roll up those sleeves, everyone..we’re in for a bumpy ride!

May Day, May Day! CCSS/CTE Urgent News!!

Beginning today, I'll be featuring, all weekend, CCSS/CTE's united efforts to dumb down our students..at every level of education, not just K-12!
Beginning today, I’ll be featuring, all weekend, CCSS/CTE’s united efforts to dumb down our students..at every level of education, not just K-12!

Usually, on Fridays,  you anti CCSS Warriors would see the “Fib-o-Meter” appear. Believe me, today’s article will be FULL of CCSS/CTE Fibs! However, since there’s an urgency to getting as much information to you BEFORE the Senate resumes their education overhaul marathon, I’m devoting the entire weekend’s article to giving you ‘ammo’ (aka ‘information’) that we MUST share immediately to stop the audacious propaganda that’s literally streaming out of Washington, D.C. at the moment. It’s worse than ‘stuck on stupid’, it’s an attempt to bombard us with lies wrapped in ‘good legislation’ to promote the CCSS Machine’s total domination of American education!

We’ve seen the way the House of Representatives listened. We’ve fired back, not so nicely, as a result. We’re not afraid. We must use our pro-active effort  as a tool to be effective with the HR5, the ECAA, the HEA, and the most recent educational push: “College Promise Act”. (see the above screen shot)

The CPA, College Promise Act:

This Act is NOT the HEA (Higher Education Act). CPA is a totally separate bill designed to push the free 2 years of Community College. While that may sound great, this concept, has been researched, written about, and shared by many of the true nature of the legislation: Educational coercion!
 {*Note:  The HEA will be popping up soon. How soon, I don’t know. However, with the researched proof that the HR5, S1177, and HEA are all designed to be a seamless transition from grade to grade (preK to college), it will be heard in Congress. One report I’ve previously shared stated that Sen. Alexander is hoping it will be not only presented in session, but passed before the next big Congress recess. That’s a dire warning we MUST heed!}

A mere two days ago, a press release was shared stating senators from Wisconsin, Virginia, and New Jersey introduced the College Promise Act. The press release also shared that Arne Duncan was also included in a media conference call promoting the dire need for this legislation. By now, you may know that the angle being used by the CCSS Machine to create such legislation is equity in education for all students, especially low-income ones. I’ve no problem with making college more affordable, however, as I’ve stated time and time again, community colleges have already been CCSS aligned. With that stealthy move, community colleges became part of the CCSS/CTE track.

Press release: http://www.baldwin.senate.gov/press-releases/baldwin-americas-college-promise-act-to-make-higher-education-more-accessible-and-affordable

Other key points:
1) Community colleges, under the grasp of CCSS/CTE, while local, will not have local control!

2) Community colleges don’t only impact recent graduates from ALL high school choices, but adults returning to the classrooms after, maybe, many years. This means anyone will be slammed with the CCSS/CTE alignment!
3) ‘Free’ will NOT be free! How many times have we lived this out? In order for ‘free’ community college for some, it means others will have something taken away!
4) Just as in the K-12 bills, teachers and other educational staff personnel in post-secondary institutions will need assessing, re-education to handle all the behavioral aspects of the CCSS/CTE legislative parameters.

Another press release by the AACC (American Association of Community Colleges) you’ll need: http://www.aacc.nche.edu/Advocacy/Pages/acpa2015.aspx

A must read anti CCSS warrior article tying a lot of the information main stream media HASN’T told you about some of the movement towards aligned post secondary education:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/ftf-chea-cte-ccss-and-america/

Senators aren’t the only ones pushing the CCSS/CTE agenda. The Representatives are as well.

Look for other Reps, like VIrginia Foxx who fully support Workforce. Workforce that's chock full of CCSS/CTE!
Look for other Reps, like VIrginia Foxx who fully support Workforce. Workforce that’s chock full of CCSS/CTE!

Other propaganda which surfaced yesterday during the D.C. education marathon:

As we know, ECAA and HR5 weave CCSS/CTE all throughout themselves to align for a trained Workforce.
As we know, ECAA and HR5 weave CCSS/CTE all throughout themselves to align for a trained Workforce.
Oh, there's lots more hype about CPA out there.
Oh, there’s lots more hype about CPA out there.

One resource the pro CCSS/CTE side is saying is a ‘great’ thing (which is a HUGE clue to how it’s exactly NOT a great thing):
http://www.clasp.org/issues/postsecondary/in-focus/americas-college-promise-act-new-legislation-supporting-our-nations-students-workforce-and-economy

In a brief statement of fact, why this is bad, is that every student loan will see more federal funds, less state funds (example: for every $3.00 the federal gov’t loans, the states loan $1.00). Translated: more federal control; watered down degrees with CCSS/CTE alignment, and a horrid amount of student debt.

I’ve covered CLASP’s overreach before now, They’re not just pumped about the College Promise Act, but the HEA, too!

Closing:

I know we, the anti CCSS warriors are being flooded at the moment. Congress is presently, very active. As tired as we may be, we MUSTN’T let up the pressure directed toward D.C.!!
Yes, many of us anti CCSS warriors are sharing lots of information to combat the rhetoric we’ve come to identify and despise. Yes, it may make your head spin. However, my fellow warriors, we must consider what’s at stake. Is it worth the dizzying pace? Absolutely! We MUST press on! We MUST be the thorn in Congress’s side. We MUST fight for our students!!
