CC Diva: Back on the Blog!

Greetings for 2016 to all those dedicated, fearless, and, awesome anti CCSS (Common Core State Standards) Warriors!

It has been a couple of weeks since I last wrote a blog entry, but I’ve been anything but idle. January 2016 finds me gearing up for some exciting speaking engagements where I’ll be honored to share with others just how deeply committed to all things Common Core, our nation is. I know you’ve been kept updated by others while I was away about the over reaching evidence of the ‘fed led ed’ via the S1177 (Every Student Succeeds Act). You’ve been updated on even more evidence about just how snookered our legislators have been when it comes to ‘more state’s control in education’.

2016 will prove to be a big year for all of us as we know important elections will take place. From local school board elections, to the White House, we, the opposed to a strait-jacketed education, have MUCH to do!

As I shared with you in my last couple of 2015 posts, you can except to see me continue my mission of supplying you with information the PRO Common Core side wishes I didn’t have. You can bet I’ll be looking into MORE of the post-secondary push for a strait jacketed set of CCSS/CCR/CTE/GR (Common Core State Standards/College and Career Ready Standards/Career Technical Education Standards/ Global Ready Standards) standards that our 50 states have already invested heavily in and will continue to build a bridge to streamline pre-K to graduate schools and the job market! We’ve known for a while that CCSS (Common Core State Standards) is being recycled and repacked as not only some of the ‘alphabet soup’ acronyms you see above, but MORE! I’ll be sharing all I have on every stinking one of them, as I can.

While I was away, I also noticed lots of ire over the Exxon-Mobil statement about CCSS (Common Core State Standards). Anti CC Warriors, please remember, they are certainly not the only corporation to issue a pro-statement or make advertisements to support more state by state alignment. If you’ve not see the Business Rountable’s list of pro CCSS/CCR (Common Core State Standards/College and Career Ready) supporters, I urge you to do so. Don’t forget the re-authorization of the HEA (Higher Education Act) will more than likely be in the news very soon. As you’ve heard me state before, this is the LAST link in the chain of alignment for American education. This is the biggest threat to ALL educational choices, regardless of where pre-K through High School was spent. As you know, I’ve devoted several articles to exposing these truths time and time again.

While the dust is still settling over the S1177, know that the HELP committee (the U.S. Senate’s Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) and the Education and Workforce Committee (the U.S. House of Representative’s) are working overtime to continue what S1177 laid out for education. Many  of our legislators abandoned our anti CCSS stance with their votes to pass S1177, many will be poised to the same in higher education. Just watch their press releases.
Why higher education? It leads to jobs, jobs lead to money, and states need money for businesses.
Businesses have done a bang up job skewing the ‘skills gap’ fallacy and those in the CCSS Machine, short for Common Core State Standards Machine (as I can it), have fed this fallacy far too long. Why? Buried in the S1177 are passages where businesses will be MORE involved in education and what is taught. The goal in  education: simply this, the earlier the job skills training implanted in education, the more Suzy or Johnny will graduate whatever level of education totally prepared for the job market.

I’ve been asked to be a big part of the Conference and while I will not be able to be in TX, I’ll contribute both behind the scenes and in the future events connected to fighting for our nation and education. What an honor to be among such dedicated and valiant Warriors!

Anti CCSS Warriors, another work week is upon us. Another week to fight against the agenda behind the CCSS Initiative. We know part of the agenda is NOT a true academic education, but a workforce based, globally minded, and career ready citizen who will be an economic ‘positive’. I’ve written much on the topic. Our students, regardless of the their age are being described as ‘human capital’, ‘talent supply’, and other disgusting phrases. We can now add the dishonorable ‘globally ready’ to this list, at least in NC. But are there other states already willing to sell out their schools? You bet!

I invite you to enlarge the above screen shot. This is no joke for NC, but it’s a foolish move for the state, nonetheless. Why? Because instead of the state receiving LESS CCSS, it is continuing to LOCK CCSS into the schools!!
Here’s a quote from the page above, “In September 2011, the North Carolina State Board of Education (SBE) formed a Task Force on Global Education to assess the state’s effort to produce “globally competitive” graduates ready to live, work, and contribute in an interconnected world.” The Task Force found 6 major goals and committed to 5 of them. What are they? I’m so glad you asked! Below you’ll find the 6 goals in plain language, not the tricky double speak so often used in CCSS supportive dribble.

1) prepare students for global readiness
2) use LEAs (Local Educational Agencies) to co-ordinate and align for global readiness
3) prepare and align teachers for global readiness
4) stress global language and culture
5)  involve as many P3 (public private partnerships) to get in the ‘global push’ as possible
6) hone a sustainable, global competitive edge in communities

The 5 commitments? Again, in plain language, not pro CCSS rhetoric!
1) embedded global themes, more PBLs (problem or project based learning), and groom teachers for more globalness, not less
2) partner with HLIs (Higher Learning Institutions) for more to increase the supply of global ready teachers
3) transform schools into ‘new schools’ with the help of non-education related entities
4) expand the ‘global ready’ push to more NC school districts
5) work directly with the NC Dept. of Commerce and other external partners

Okay, that’s just the summary above, but what was in the 2013 Full Report?? Read on, anti CCSS Warriors, but have a ‘barf bag’ close by, you’ll probably feel your stomach begin to revolt! Oh, and I’m leaving it in their words this time. Following each quote, I’ll provide you with a plain speak articles of HOW each of these are locking in MORE CCSS, CTE, CP, STEM, and more! {*Note: CCSS is short for Common Core State Standards; CTE is short for Career Tech Education; CP is short for Career Pathways; and STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math}

With moves like these in our states, we know LOCKING in more CCSS/CCR/CTE is a reality, not a questioned possibility. If our leaders are saying ‘no’ to CCSS, but ‘yes’ to ANY of the above, we must hold them accountable!

Monday Musings: IDEA: When Good Goes CCS/CTE Bad

Fighting CCS and CTE for those with special needs is especially heart rendering. I’ve had the honor of speaking with several parents of these wonderful students. In my educational experience, I’ve worked with these families and seen how an education that fits them, NOT streamlines them is a delight. However, when I speak with parents today, they are not delighted, their students are miserable, and all involved feel absolute anger and frustration toward the misuse of education and IDEA funding.

What’s IDEA funding? It is a federal statute set up in 1975. It’s original name was “Education for All Handicapped Children”. Congress, at some point, began to refer to it as “IDEA”. The name then or now isn’t so important as WHAT the funding does.
From what I’ve found the Act has 2 purposes: a) due process detailing parental rights, and b) permanent grants available to states for ‘free, appropriate public education to all children with disabilities in the least restrictive environment’.

Where Good Went Bad:

Let’s see if we can pinpoint what other groups are supportive of the shift where IDEA went from its original purpose (stated above) of ‘appropriate education in the least restrictive way’ and when it aligned with Common Core

Why this matters in 2015: 1) if you’re a new anti CCSS Warrior, this may be information which is new to you; 2) knowing the dates of the pro CCSS Machine’s activities can help those who’ve been fighting CCS and all its other entities by tracking when and where it showed up in their states, who might be involved and knew what the states were in for, but went along with it, etc.

So what’s the NASDSE up to now, in 2015? Currently they are conducting 8 projects. One of which might be of particular interest in our War Against the Core. It is called the “National Center on Educational Outcomes Subcontract”. (NCEO for short). This particular subcontract is through the University of MN. Working with the NASDES, the Univ. of MN, is the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers)! The goal of their teamwork? Assessments! More assessments for our special needs students. Somewhat related is the 2006 Report I found featured on the website for the National Assoc. of Secondary School Principals  (which just this past weekend I showed you how aligned to CCSS/CTE they are).  This particular report is addressing the need for IDEA to become ‘fully funded’. Take note of the other groups in the IDEA Partnership involved in the full support of this. It can help you trace IDEA funds timeline, especially where the 2004 re-authorization of the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) was concerned. See: principalsreport

Be sure to click on the website address directly above the screen shot, scroll down and click on ‘Dialogue Guides for Cradle to College and Career’. Once there you can see an ‘Early Learner’ Guide, which is for pre-K to 3rd grade; for Middle School, it’s the “Breaking Ranks” reports I told you about in this past weekend’s news. Lastly, the transition for middle to high school in included. Other than the national group of those secondary school principals I told you about, you can see how the ECS, ‘Education Commission of the States’ is cited as a source for the dialogue documents.  If you are curious as to the alignment of the ECS to CCSS and CTE? Don’t be. It is 100% evident on their website. See below.

As far as not taking sides, I would have to disagree. Why? Here is an excerpt of just one of the education projects they are conducting, ‘ECS is continuing the Blueprint Project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Designed for state leaders, the Blueprint features a menu of 10 critical policies that promote college readiness and success.’
Briefly, the 10 policies most critical according to ECS:
1) high school policies (has 4 distinct subsections)
2) higher education policies (has 4 distinct subsections)
3) policies for bridging from high school to higher education (has 2 which include data mining)

Bottom line for the musings today: We’ve got some great information for using to fight the Core, let’s get busy!
