Ed’s Potpurri

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, while the main stream news tries to overload us with ‘squirrels’, the U.S. Dept. of Education is carrying on the status quo.

Should THIS be main stream information? I believe so. Why? Because everyday the status quo in ‘education’ is carried out, millions of lives are being harmed.

THAT, my fellow Warriors, should be OUR only news!

I believe if it were our only news, we’d be more inclined to jump in and save our nation’s citizens.

Think of it this way. Potpourri is used to help rooms smell good. Some potpourri mixes are pleasing to our noses, while others assault our noses with a bad smell. Not everyone can be around potpourri, if it contains something they are allergic to.

When the CCSS Machine rolled into America, it replaced the good, quality education (pleasing potpourri) with a stench SO bad, it’s smelled world-wide. The abysmal education we see trotted out isn’t for everyone, either, however, it is all we’re getting.

For the remainder of this article, I’ll share with you some of the latest news from the U.S. Dept. of Education. I warn you, the ‘smell’ is vile.

 

Ed’s “Smell” in Transmedia circa 2015 To Present:

In an email from the U.S. Dept. of Ed, sent last week (Aug.2019), several items were brought up.
While a new TV ‘transmedia’ (short for “transmitted media”) was released, the link used in the email took you to what you see below. There was no press release date, so it wasn’t until you began to read the information about ‘transmedia’ that the 2015 date shows up as ‘new’.
By the way, the RtL (Ready to Learn) TV can be seen on PBS (already a CCSS Machine member group). To see the entire page (be sure to read the ‘about RtL’ portion at the bottom of the page. You’ll spot the source of the ‘smell’: school readiness.)

Ready to Learn TV got its start based off money and policy. It also gears itself around the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) mandate for 365, 24/7 access to educational media. This ‘access’ is to encompass EVERY school choice, even homeschools.

While we can trace the money back to the CCSS Machine (includes WestEd), where did the policy come from? Northwestern University! Back in 2015, I shared with you  the Northwestern University’s Kellogg Center CCSS Machine ties. For RtL TV, the Northwestern department is the Communications Dept.

Warriors, let’s also see if we can spot the agenda’s smell by the term ‘transmedia’. With all the confusion surrounding ‘trans’ in other education subjects, won’t a move like this help further the confusion?

Ed’s Globalistic “Opportunity Zones”:

Also from that email last week, was the news that Sec. DeVos wants to enfold the Presidential Initiative for Opportunity Zones into education.

Warriors, this absolutely smells of treason!! How? First, ESSA is a K-12th grade law which codified WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). WIOA had Opportunity Zones already in place! ESSA also mandated regionalized education. Regionalism is 100% United Nations. As far as education goes, across our nation, the regionalism is well entrenched through College and Career Readiness hubs. Secondly, this move to align education to job opportunities supports the G20 ed/labor document DeVos signed on behalf of our nation.

Warriors, we have an opportunity to weigh in on DeVos’s desires, but we MUST act by August 28th!! As of this article, only 3 other citizens have spoken out. Two of those 3 are citing corruption. Mine cited the uniting of education and labor is treasonous and illegal. You’ll find the Federal Registry link above (opportunity zone initiative is highlighted for you).

The folks at the U.S. Dept. of Education are laying out what they hope is a teasing scent to entice us to look toward International Education Week (11/18-22/19).

I ask you, Warriors, how is this possible when our very values are being thrown away and replaced with the United Nations’?

The, if you can actually stand listening to Sec. DeVos, you need to. Her fragrance of globalism almost wafts off the screen! Listen for ‘lifelong learning’ and being career ready. DeVos’s direction in education is steering right into the global workforce.

Closing:

Warriors, if your nose if full of bad smells by now, I’d like to invite you to refresh your sense of smell with some truth.

1) We the People are more in number than the US federal government; we need to act on this.

2) Everything the U.S. Dept. of Education is doing, has done, and is planning is illegal. Everything they are doing spills over into every other federal agency.
We should revolt against this.

3) We are governed by the U.S. Declaration of Independence, NOT the United Nations declarations of conformity. We need to be persistent with this message in reaching our officials.

4) We should no longer call any educrat, regardless of office status, a ‘leader’. Where they are leading is NOT where we should go.
Leaders should be honest and respecting of their followers.
No one in the CCSS Machine is a leader to us. No one in the CCSS Machine respects us.
They are underminers of our nation and destroyers of our future as free citizens. They are our enemies. We need to act like it.
We will change nothing in this War Vs the Core by playing nice.

5) We are the protectors of our children, we cannot allow them to suffer under this educratic takeover anymore.

Ready or Not…

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, we have seen the purposed shift from “Common Core State Standards” to “College and Career Ready Standards”. Together, we have found the evidence which proves these two phrases do NOT mean 2 different sets of Standards. They ARE one in the same. Together, we have found some of the CCSS Machine member organizations responsible for spewing education reform rhetoric. We have listened, seen, and experienced their fallacy ridden efforts to deceive Americans.

Trouble is, the CCSS Machine is NOT slowing down now that ESSA is the law of the land. In fact, the CCSS Machine is busy this summer cranking more fallacies up and out. The Machine only ASSUMES we Warriors are taking the summer break time to refrain from our “War Against the Core”.

If you have followed my blog long, you know how much of a part of the CCSS Machine, the AASA (American Association of School Administrators) or as they are more well known: ‘The School Superintendents Association’, is. If you are new to the blog, suffice it to say that this pro ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) group is VERY ready, willing, and so far, able to deceive Americans when it comes to ‘College and Career Readiness’. (*Note: the ESSA champions that CCSS (Common Core State Standards) will be gone and that CCR (College and Career Readiness) will replace them.)

So what has the AASA done to spread the deceptions? They have begun a national campaign called “Redefining Readiness”! This group is wasting no time in their pro ESSA efforts. Just a couple of months ago they were busy hosting ESSA webinars, writing reports on how great ESSA is for education to be returned to the States. And now, a national campaign..My, my..

It is interesting to note that you will not see the AASA’s logo or information on most of the webpages included on the Campaign site.
In fact it wasn’t until I got to the ‘Resources’ page that I found them. According to the National Campaign, there are 3 types of Readiness for our students.
College ready (students are determined ‘college ready’ by how well they score on assessment benchmarks and/or academic benchmarks.), Career Ready (students are determined ‘career ready’ by indicating a career choice, meeting behavior benchmarks, and performing community service.), and finally, Life Ready (students are determined as ‘life ready’ by leaving high school with ‘grit’ and perseverance; a ‘growing’ mindset, and very little else. From the first paper (highlighted in red), comes this excerpt about the use of SLDS (student longitudinal data system), “The data for this study come from two sources: the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), conducted by WestEd (WestEd, 2014), and publicly available school-level data from the California Department of Education (CDE).”

Remember, Warriors, this national readiness campaign is supposed to be about education. See how the data mining is being used to redefine education?!

College and Career Readiness, WIOA, and HEA:

Since the CCSS Machine is out to streamline education from birth to the grave, two OTHER laws are in existence to make sure this happens in ADDITION to the ESSA.
These are WIOA of 2014 and the HEA (last re-written in 2008, renewed for funding purposes in Dec. 2015, and being re-written by some of the SAME backers as the ESSA)

WIOA of 2014 stands for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 and cemented into law Career Pathways, Career Clusters, apprenticeships, and so much more into our States. Job development grants, workforce based education, and data mining. The idea was to create it so that those wanting to work would have a certain track to follow and the data mining would help education plan and teach to these tracks. The WQDI (Workforce Quality Data Initiative) was created to pull this off. WIOA is from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. It covers the workforce..all ages, all educational choices.

HEA of 2008 stands for Higher Education Act. It,too has tons of data mining built in (yes, even then). It also had the foundation laid for educational alignment which we now see as work of the CCSS Machine. When ESSA was passed and the bragging speeches began in D.C. it was spoken as both a promise and a warning..that the HEA was next; that HEA was the final piece in the legislation which would complete the bridge from education to work.

I have covered post-secondary Common Core, Career Tech Education, or any of the other names the agenda uses, extensively. If you wish to have the evidence for WIOA, HEA, the WQDI, or how the 2017 Federal Education Budget Requests play into all this, please let me know.

FOM: Career Readiness Via Coding

Throughout our battle against Common Core aligned education, we’ve heard the rhetoric about College/Career Readiness. We’ve heard about being ‘globally skilled’, etc. Join me today as we filter through the “Getting Smart”/MIcrosoft team effort to making coding career readiness. Time to crank up the Fib-o-Meter!

Briefly, before we find out what’s “Total Truth”, “Total Fallacy”, or “Neutral”, it will be helpful to know what or whom “Getting Smart” is. We know, all too well, MIcrosoft’s foray into CCSS.

“Getting Smart”:

Website: http://gettingsmart.com/  Describes themselves as a community. They blog, they will come and speak to your group AND they have products to offer you. Now, that’s not sounding too bad until you look at WHAT they are promoting AND whom they PROMOTE ‘it’ with!

Here’s what more they have to say about what they do, “We believe the shift to personal digital learning holds promise for improved student achievement in the developed world and access to quality education in the emerging economy–for the first time we have a chance to provide a quality education to every young person on the planetWe’re advocates for better K-12 education as well as early, post-secondary and informal learning opportunities for all students. The Coding for Career Readiness:

Because this is one of those documents you’ll have to read for yourselves to see the levels of “Total Fallacy” and “Total Truths”, I’m providing the link here:

We will take the main points and measure their truthfulness or sheer fallacies.

A “Total Truth” in our present day society is this one, ” Young people are growing up in a technology rich, data-driven world and will enter a workforce that depends on tech-skills.”

A “Total Fallacy”,  spoken by Mr. Bill Gates himself, “Coding is critical thinking.” Here are the rest of his words, ” “Learning to write programs stretches your mind and helps you to think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.” Fib-o-Meter’s going with ‘fallacy’ simply due to the fact that knowing what else Mr. Gates believes is great about CC. I don’t see his view on coding via CC, any exception.

Another “Total Fallacy”, this one spoken by Greg Garner (educator and blogger), ” “Learning should always be a process of identifying and then solving unique and interesting problems that don’t yet have answers.” Learning is SO much MORE than this description! I’m an educator and blogger, too and even I can spot the fallacy.

This “Total Fallacy” is truly scary when you consider the message embedded, ” Making coding and computer science available to all students is a social justice issue–there doesn’t have to be a gap between haves and have nots here.” This was spoken by yet another person involved in the publication, educator Adam Renfro. As we’ve seen elsewhere in CCSS aligned classes, social justice is everywhere. Social justice no more belongs in a computer class than it does in a science class!

A “Total Truth”, sad, but true is this: “Coding is collaboration.” Why would Fib-o-Meter rate this a sad truth? Consider all the real life accounts of students we’ve been alerted to about collective grades in class. Consider this other total truth, college professors are finding students are so collaborative minded, individual work is an impossibility.

Where You’ll Will Most Want to Look:

Page 3 begins the ‘social justice’ aspect of computer coding.

Page 5 begins the loss of cursive writing and the transition to keyboarding. Page 6 will be of most interest as they describe cursive as myth/fallacy.

Page 8 will endorse Khan Academy as a great resource. Never mind the “Total Truth” that Gates gave Khan money to align his courses to CCSS. That fact was somehow NOT included in the text. Also in the CS (Computer Science) section, you’ll find the ‘jackpot’ of other CC friendly companies.

Page 12 is where you’ll find the ‘global economic importance’. Following this, on page 13, is where you’ll find the support for learning anywhere, anytime (somehow the “Total Truth” of data mining wasn’t included in the text.)

Considering all the above, I leave you with this closing comment. Read it, let it sink in. Then, re-read it knowing CCSS is at the foundation of all of this. Think about those many students now in the grasp of it.

“The work of teaching coding continues- and is thriving. In 2014, 60 million students tried the Hour of Code. 60 school districts partnered with Code. org, including all 7 of the largest US school districts.”

In today’s post, we’ll see how the CCSS is being sprouted in ‘compact cities’. All thanks to the SEED Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and more than likely, a few others.

The Seed Money:

In 2013, the Gates Foundation gave the SEED Foundation $200,000. to help create College Ready Compact Cities. Purpose? Here is the excerpt straight from the GF: to explore partnerships with current and potential College Ready Compact cities that have the greatest likelihood of partnering with the SEED Foundation to pilot and spread college ready strategies related to teacher effectiveness, common core state standards, and personalized learning models.” To see the rest of the grant details, http://www.gatesfoundation.org/How-We-Work/Quick-Links/Grants-Database/Grants/2013/11/OPP1098082

Other Gates Foundation grants to SEED, 2011, $250,000.00; 2010, $75,970.00. All are conditioned by ‘college readiness’. (*Note: you can access these grants by using the search term “The SEED Foundation” in the search bar for the Gates Foundation website.

The SEED Foundation:

Founded in 1997, this group is especially interested in urban areas and schools. It was featured in the educational movie “Waiting for Superman”. The Foundation has also been featured on “60 Minutes”. In 2011, the Foundation was awarded several million dollars from what appears to be a P3 (Public, Private Partnership). The purpose? Sowing the Seeds of CCSS:

I was able to find a 2014 SEED Summit Presentation that is expressly promoting CCSS. Here’s just one quote, “Many skills are reflected throughout the CCSS but some are outside the scope.” I’ll leave you to find the rest of the presentation’s soil worthy rhetoric for yourselves. From the SEED Foundation’s 2010 document titled “Practices and Programs That Prepare Students for College Graduation”, a screen shot pointing to yet another Gates Foundation joint effort to align students. This time, it’s with Jobs for the Future, however.

You might find it interesting that the 2010 document (in the above screen shot) also got some help from a company called “FSG”, as in FSG Social Impact Consultants. Their website: http://www.fsg.org/  If you’ve never heard of them, you’re not alone. I hadn’t either. However, here’s just a tidbit of what they do, “FSG is a mission-driven consulting firm supporting leaders in creating large-scale, lasting social change. Through strategy, evaluation, and research we help many types of actors – individually and collectively – make progress against the world’s toughest problems.”  From the ‘collective’ standpoint, they have partnered with the Aspen Institute to bring about social changes in our communities. (Aspen’s a HUGE CCSS supporter). From another angle, called “Shared Values”, you’ll find some of the same large name corporations which support CCSS, also in on this effort. The ‘seed money’ to FSG from Gates? Oh, yes. Since September 2009. A $50,000 grant to FSG to host an educational meeting at Stanford University (according to the GF grant data base the purpose was “College Readiness”). Then, in 2012, $100,000 more for a non descriptive collective youth project. In 2013, $200,000 for community collectives. Then, last year, 2014 saw the FSG being granted $33,000 to support a study on how great student’s self-directed learning is. Jobs for the Future:

JFF has long been a recipient of the Gates Foundation’s grants. So much so, the GF Grant Database has 3 pages full of awards. Closing:

I’ve no clue if any of today’s information is new soil to your anti CCSS fight or not, but one thing we’ll all gleaned about the CCSS Machine, the more we uncover, the more we can till the soil, root out the weeds, and break up the pests in our educational system.

How much do you know about the NSF (National Science Foundation) and their ties to CCSS and STEM? Would you believe Arne Duncan was considered an expert by them back in 2007? Yep! It happened. But wait, there’s more…

A brief look at NSF’s History:

NSF has been around since 1950. President Truman signed the NSF Act after the atomic bomb was dropped. The goal? Peace via science. In 1953 and 54, the federal agency beefed up teaching in the post-secondary and secondary areas. 1957 brought the advent of the social sciences under NSF’s grasp. Then, in 1971 and 72, improving minority education as well as being responsible for all science education began. A makeover/upgrade for K-12 science curriculum happened in 1987. 2000 brought “Partnerships for Innovation” where education, communities, and P3s (public, private partnerships) were encouraged. From the Meeting Minutes for the NSF, May 2014, this is what I found on page 5: “For the topic of the Common Core, which was popular in the media recently, he called on Dr. Córdova for information on this subject. She introduced Dr. Joan Ferrini-Mundy, Assistant Director, Directorate for Education and Human Resources (EHR), for an overview on common core standards and issues for the Board’s attention. Dr. Ferrini-Mundy reported that the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts were the current phase of a long series of activity around K-12 standards based education from the 1980’s. These were developed by the National Governors Association (NGS) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) beginning in 2009 without a direct Federal role in the development. The two major goals of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics are to create clearer and higher standards that (1) describe what students should know and be able to do in order to be ready for college or career at the end of high school; and (2) to ensure common outcomes across various jurisdictions. One of the major features of this movement is to look for equitable access to learning opportunities across the states, where previously there were major differences in expectations for students across the country. The Standards were released after an elaborate development process in 2010 for state adoption. As of 2011, 45 states plus the District of Columbia adopted the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics. The Department of Education funded two consortia to develop the Common Corealigned assessments of states that have come together with nonprofit groups to prepare the assessment tools that will then measure whether students are making progress towards these common standards. There is considerable controversy about the Common Core. She stated that it is complicated and it has multiple facets. Dr. Ferrini-Mundy stated that teachers in 45 states plus the District of Columbia were expected to work with the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics. NSF sees proposals for work that will help to better understand and to address the challenges of implementation of Common Core and other standards in states that are not using the Common Core. As NSF does not have a special program around the Common Core, the proposals go through the standard merit review processes. Federal support that was provided for their development is in the form of the support that the Department of Education provided for the assessment work. In response to a question on examples of Mathematics Common Core, Dr. Ferrini-Mundy indicated that the Common Core State Standards have many interpretations and do not prescribe curriculum or instructional approaches to ideas. One of the actual implementation issues is how to go from standards that say “here is what students should know and be able to do” to “what is the best way to effectively help learners get to these places.” She added that watching how these assessments play out will be important as they are coming at a time when the standards have not been fully implemented. The Power Congress Gives NSF:

If you aren’t aware of how much money and power our U. S. Congress gives the NSF, you’ll want to see the 2014 FIRST Act. Then, consider how much is devoted to blending academics, research, and workforce. See: BILLS-113HR4186ih-HR4186FrontiersinInnovationResearchScienceandTechnologyActof2014 (*Note: you’ll notice STEM is used repeatedly. Remember NSF is the group which coined the term as a updated reference to SMET (Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology) to influence us, especially in education. The first evidence of the use of “STEM” that I could find was from a testimony given by Dr. Rita Colwell back in 2002. Dr. Colwell was speaking to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions as to why an increased federal budget was needed. Here’s an excerpt from one of the sidebars, “Dewey urged scientists to convey the science way of thinking to all phases of education as a “SUPREME INTELLECTUAL OBLIGATION.” Although this includes critical thinking, curiosity, skepticism, and verification by observation and measurement, its deeper meaning has to do with the sense of wonder and awe that emerges from the student’s gradual realization that the natural world is orderly and comprehensible. Th e overarching laws of science enable predictions: sunrise, weather, and the hour and day of the return of Halley’s Comet in 2061. Th e appreciation and respect implied here are tragically missing from our science classrooms.”
