“Friend” Of The Family

Greetings fellow Anti Fed Ed Warriors! September 2017 is upon us. 

Look below. What you see is actual evidence from a concerned Mom from the Raleigh, NC area.  She’s been with me, fighting the CCSS Machine in NC, for quite a while now.

This is the front page of the letter received by the concerned parent.

Warriors, take note of the fine print, Harvard University Research is to receive this personal information. Harvard’s located in MA, not NC! Why is an NC school district farming personal information and data to an Ivy League School?

Warriors, from the appearance of this part of the letter, all the data issues seem to be ‘not a big deal’, but as we know, all is never as it seems when it comes to our child’s personal information OR their school data.

To complete the guise of ‘friendly’ research data gathering, the folks behind the Wake County School System and the Harvard team, even give you a postage-paid envelope to mail the letter in!

Foe #1:

Warriors, I’ve repeatedly shown you have up to its neck in CCSS Machine business Harvard University has been over the course of my published blog.

From their partnership with Pearson Publishing to create the “Pathways to Prosperity” which in turn spur on the “Career Pathways” of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards), STEM (Science, Technology,Engineering, and, Math) and the CTE (Career Tech Education) alignment, as well as create a hotbed for social justice alignment. Then, there’s the micro-management of school counselors with the co-operation of former President and First Lady Obama, which will impact students in K-12th and/or college, where the Harvard grab for adult learners  goes into hyper-drive.

We can’t leave Harvard’s activity in the CCSS Machine there, Warriors. The University has played a big part in the Career Pathways transformation to CBE (Competency Based Education), right along with InACOL, the Gates Foundation, and others.

Oh, and if you didn’t know it, 3rd grade students (and older) can thank Harvard for their undermining reading and writing for job skill training!
The final blow to Harvard’s ‘respected’ reputation, at least as far as an anti Fed Ed Warrior’s perspective goes, will be the global education push that Harvard pitches us into as part of the GECN (Global Education Conference Network).

Now they want us to TRUST them with sensitive school details?!

 

Foe #2:

“My Student’s Team” by the Harvard Research Team.

When you visit the website (embedded in ‘team’ above), you will see almost nothing. There’s  very little wording. As far as the school districts using “My Student’s Team”? Three. One is Manchester Public Schools, another is Winsdor Public Schools. Wake is the only school system which is a county-wide one using the ‘friendly’ student support team.

Since I have no clue where Manchester and Windsor are located, I will use what information I do have. I hope wherever the Manchester and Winsdor parents are, the following information will be useful.

What does the Team do for the student?  As it appears on the first page of the letter my fellow Warrior received, it looks like a non-family member contact for your student. But notice the wording. I’m going to give you full access to my student I’m interested in knowing more about permission to access his/her behavior records?!

I understand, Warriors, this is a research project with a rubber stamp, but rubber won’t keep data safe.

The letter states a team member should be one who’s interested in knowing more about a student who’s a) not a parent, b) not normally in contact with the school, and c) by the legal guardian! Warriors, do you see what I see?

STRANGER DANGER!
We (meaning those who consent) are to readily and willingly hand over sensitive information to a nameless, faceless ‘team’ via the post office!
By allowing these people I don’t know very well/don’t know at all because they live so far away, what am I really signing up for? Who will background check my choice of ‘support person’ for my student? Who is going to be looking into MY records? For what purpose?

From Raleigh, NC to Harvard, MA is over 700 miles. It also passes through several States, thereby crossing state lines. Is this safe? Is the submission of consent by this ‘non-parent’ giving FULL disclosure? Do those signing this paper realize that given consent means whoever or whatever group Harvard shares this information with will be deemed as ‘okay’ by you, under the current FERPA regulations?

Warriors, because FERPA was changed and large loopholes exist NOW, no agreement seeking your permission should be trusted as ‘safe’!

How do I know? Child Abuse in the Classroom has an entire section on the real truth about how unsafe FERPA is when it comes to private information. Because of the loopholes, you have NO clue who or where Harvard will share this data.  Access the Child Abuse in the Classroom’s FERPA link, here.

Harvard University, Wake County Schools, and SREE:

Warriors, how DID Wake County Schools get the attention of Harvard University to become an experimental research subject? 

One connection I found was a 2016 Conference listed on Harvard University’s website where an official from the Wake Co. system was featured as a speaker. The Conference was one for SREE (Society for Research on Education Effectiveness). You’ll be interested to know that the CCSS Machine member organization, AIR was a main sponsor. (AIR is short from American Institutes for Research)
Two of the SREE Board of Directors are Harvard University employees. AIR is also represented on the Board of Directors.

According to the Gates Foundation Grants website, SREE has received 2 grants. Both were in 2013.

Foe #3:

However, it’s  Matthew Lenard (green arrows) which is the name connecting the Wake County Schools to Harvard. 

His resume is steeped in the CCSS Machine’s rhetoric.
He’s held a position with SREB (Southern Regional Education Board) which has received funds from the Gates Foundation as well as other  big name groups shoving the modern education reform down our throats.
In fact, SREB is one of the main groups using CCSS Machine money and resources to push the agenda onto school leaders, especially the counselors! (*Note: the highlighted phrase will give you access to every one of my SREB researched articles)

According to his LinkedIn Profile, Lenard is with the Wake County Public School System as a data and accountability officer. Here’s a quote, ” I joined WCPSS through the Strategic Data Project (SDP), a initiative housed at the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University. SDP partners with districts, school networks, and state agencies across the U.S. to transform the use of data in education.”

Lenard is tapped for the SREE 2018 Conference, where a featured speaker from WestEd will lead the attendees down the data strewn path of student information.

Below, is a screen shot for the SDP (Strategic Data Project). Wake County’s been a partner since 2011. Gates Foundation grants to SDP: two, 1 in 2017 to the State of KY’s Dept. of Education for the data mining and one in 2012 directly to Harvard. Source

This 2010 You Tube video features a woman from the IES speaking to an SREE audience about ‘practice guides’. Listen about the 1:14 minute mark when you’ll hear how behavior modification was almost casually mentioned. While the direct link in the comments to the video no longer exist, I did find some IES Practice Guides which may very well be the type of behavior modification the woman was referring to. In the modification plans? Multi-tier support and Response to Intervention. Both of these are ESSA mandates for our children.

Ed/Workforce’s Dirty Laundry?!

Hello, my Anti Fed Ed/CCSS Warriors! As you know, I’ve dedicated years to researching just how deep the roots to the shift in American education to workforce training are.

Today’s article will give you a rundown which is sure to help your War vs the Core in your State.

Why you need such a rundown of items is simple. The CCSS Machine’s rhetoric will somewhat slow down during the summer months. A perfect opportunity for us to make some moves of our own. No battle is won without specific preparation.

D.C.’s Dirty Laundry:

So far, during the current Congressional session, there are PLENTY of ‘dirty’ education/workforce bills in the making. Using the Congress.gov website (where you can easily look up bills), there are 733 Workforce bills for the 2017 session.

Since we know what happens in D.C. travels to each of the 50 States, we know what to look for at our General Assemblies, State Congresses, etc. Much like the proverbial red towel left in the load of white sheets, the goal of the CCSS Machine is simple, make all education ‘pink’ (ie: workforce training, not academic-minded). As we also, know, once dyed pink, sheets do not return to their former color easily, if at all.

Below are only a few of the ‘dirty’ bills:

S268, Investing in Student Success Act of 2017 (Senator Young from IN is the main sponsor).
Sounds not so ‘dirty’ right? I mean who doesn’t want to invest in their child’s post-secondary education?! Ah, but Warriors, the ‘dirt’ is that your student and someone not related to you invests in their education via an ISA (Income Share Agreement).

Some hidden ‘dirt’ for S268 is that this FEDERAL bill goes above any existing State law about investment agreements! Targeted group for S268? Low-income students.

HR1837, The 21st Century Energy Workforce Act (Representative Norcross from NJ is the main sponsor)
This bill points out that energy in the United States is the 3rd largest industry. As such, it needs more skilled workers than other industries.
The ‘hidden dirt’ to this bill? Using community colleges for the uniting of all educational choices for STEM/CTE aligned Common Core workforce educated students. (*Note: STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; CTE is short for Career Technical Education. Both are tied to Common Core and have been for years.)

The embedded ‘pink’ stain to this bill? The Secretary of Energy will be in charge of grants for creating apprenticeships to carry all this alignment out. This will, of course, involve the U.S. Dept. of Labor, and the U.S. Dept. of Education.
This HR1837, also establishes a National Center for Excellence for the  21st Century Workforce Advisory Board.(see pages 3 and 4)

A Former ‘Stain’ Which Will Not Wash Out:

Our Senate, over the past 2 Congressional sessions, has tried to get a bill to support a National Workforce Board. See below from Sen. Cantwell’s (WA):

S1304, was last introduced during the 2015-2016 Session by Sen. Cantwell. If you read the 9 pages, it is very similar in several instances to the HR 1837 language. Talk about ‘dirty laundry’….

New Wash Load, Same Old Dirt:

During THIS Congressional Session (2017-2018) The Senate’s 21st Century Energy Workforce Act is mainly sponsored by Sen. Heinrich, NM. It is S895.

S895’s title is officially “Energy Workforce for the 21st Century Act of 2017”. This bill specifies an increase in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) especially for low-income students of ALL ages (like the House’s bill, this one will begin in elementary schools and go all the way to the workforce). This bill also specifies WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act’s) definition of ‘education’..just like ESSA did.

S895 will have not only the Secretary of Energy creating education collaborations, but awarding all kinds of incentives to them.

Warriors, if you missed my article from earlier this year about how the major Cabinet agencies all have CTE/STEM plans to streamline education to workforce skills, I urge you to access that information here. It is absolutely key to what we see Congress plotting NOW.

Also, take into consideration that the Federal Budget has millions of taxpayer funds earmarked for job creation. On Page 2 of the 2018 Federal Budget, energy development is at the top of the continued priority list. Education is last. On Page 8, funding/discussion for American jobs is highlighted.

Back in March 2017, when the Blueprint for the Federal Budget was released, I shared with you just how the education/workforce stream of money was being kept alive, in spite of all the noise about reining in the federal overreach into education.

Continuing the Spin Cycle:

S1186 is sponsored by several Senators from across the nation. Leading them is Sen. Baldwin from WI. This bill, the Domestic Maritime Centers of Excellence Act of 2017, would have the Secretary of Transportation select existing community colleges (and technical schools) for an increase in educated workforce training. This Secretary’s assistance also includes funding, use of federal resources, AND, create new career pathways!

S628, Educating Tomorrow’s Workforce Act of  2017 is mainly sponsored by Sen. Kaine of VA. While it’s been rumored VA never had Common Core, it’s been researched and proven VA has Common Core’s ‘adult version’ of education, CTE (Career Tech Education). This bill should be an absolute dead ringer for exposing the shift in education. Why? See below:

Warriors, as you can see, these are just a few of the over 700 bills Congress has created in the name of job creation, education, workforce skills, and more. The bottom line, however, is 100% alignment to WIOA via ESSA. HEA (Higher Education Act) is also to be included. Career Pathways, STEM, and so much more connects every one of these existing laws and proposed bills. Will every one of these bills survive? No, but even if ONE of them succeeds, look at the agenda it embeds, not only federally, but LOCALLY.
The ‘stain’ of CCSS Machine reform is becoming permanently marked on America.

Summit Masters, Unite

Those lyrics, my Warriors, are from the epic musical “The Sound of Music”. They were written by Oscar Hammerstein II. While most of us may remember watching this movie, some of us may not have a clue about the plot of the musical. If you are among those Warriors, who don’t know, please, look up the movie, it’s message is one we can apply to our War vs the Core.

No, my fellow Citizen Warriors, I’ve not lost my mind. My article DOES have an education point to it. I just wanted to set an image in your mind, first.

Excellent Summit:

While most of the conversation is still honed in on the 2016 Elections, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, FEE (as in Jeb Bush’s organization), is all about their upcoming National Summit for Educators. It’s to be held late November 2016 to early December 2016.

You’ll love the title for the Summit (aka: conference), “Transforming Lives Through Education”. Almost sounds like one of those medical TV specials, doesn’t it?

However, it’s HOW the Foundation is transforming student’s lives that we need to know.
CBE (Competency Based Education), as in the ESSA/WIOA blend of workforce based, skills for 21st Century jobs for a 21st Century economy!! (ESSA: Every Student Succeeds Act/WIOA: Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). Also connected is the HEA (Higher Education Act). How so? ESSA states ALL students MUST be post-secondary (after high school) ready by graduation. WIOA has HEA embedded through the lifelong career aspect.

Before I move on, please let me state that as a former candidate for the U.S. Presidency, Mr. Bush seemingly disappeared after he bowed out of the 2016 campaigning. We should not, for one minute, think that any of the other former candidates (including Mrs. Clinton) will just ‘disappear’. Oh, no, my Warrior friends, these pro CCSS Machine members and their groups will find a way to resurface in education and/or policy and legislation. We’ve seen it time and time again since the CCSS Machine first cranked up its motor to chug up that summit of reforming education.

This isn’t the first time the FL based organization and NC have joined together. Back when “College and Career Readiness” was still called Common Core State Standards, the roads between north and south were heavily traveled.

Lastly, Warriors, if you noticed, I used quotation marks for the word education. If you are wondering, it’s because I believe the CCSS Machine’s push up ‘Alignment Summit’ (or ‘Alignment Mountain’, if you like) has completely transformed a classical based, academic education and replaced it with something far less desirable. The last, little push the CCSS Machine needs is when the HEA (Higher Education Act) gets its very own re-authorization as a federal law.

‘Makeover’ for Workforce?

Back in late 2014, I shared with you the Workforce3One portion of the U.S. Dept. of Labor and how it ties to the U.S. Dept. of Education as well as the CCSS Machine. How? The Career Pathways, Career Tech Education (AKA: Career and Technical Education), and all the other workforce related tracks our students/teachers/schools are being placed in.

Today, we will look at what has been made over or is the process of being made over to continue the alignment to the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act), the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), the HEA (Higher Education Act), and any other related law. Workforce3One is sure to be involved!

The Previous Article:

Here is an excerpt from the 10/14 article, “Workforce3 One, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration (ETA), is an on-line interactive communications and learning platform designed to build the capacity of the Workforce Investment System. Members include the public workforce system and its strategic partners, such as employers, Federal agencies, community- and faith-based organizations, and educators. Workforce³One supplements other technical assistance provided by the Employment and Training Administration’s national and regional staff to build the capacity of the workforce investment system to successfully meet the employment needs of America’s workforce and employers.” ”

Other things revealed in the article include the CCSS Machine members involved, their financial backings and/or research studies. You will be able to learn how the Workforce3One uses schools for Career Pyramids, Ladders, Tracks, and/or Pathways. (This will include schools on all levels) You will find out how your local job/career centers are involved. Here is an excerpt to explain what I mean,Workforce 3 One is SO complete they have on-line tools for you to use to build your career..of course it will be aligned. The first one is the ‘CP’ or Competency Pyramid.”

Weekend News: Your Anti CCSS Back To School Wish

Warriors, have no fear, I’ve not converted to the supportive side for “Common Core”. I’m still VERY MUCH opposed. However, as we all know, it is the time of year our schools are gearing up for “Back to School”. For many of us, that means MORE CCSS. During this past week, I shared with you how the Bic Ink Pens Company is hosting a BTS (Back to School) Contest full of ‘Common Core English Language Arts’ lessons. What else is lurking out there? Plenty! This weekend’s news feature is the CCSS laden “Parent Toolkit”.

“Education Nation”:

Using Twitter as a tool for building support for Back to School, this NBC News project (NBC is part of the CCSS Machine), has a current campaign called “#SchoolYrResolution”. Who’s contributing? Everyday parents like you and I; Pearson Publishing; The American Heart Association; Education Nation and NBC personalities; Parent Toolbox (another NBC Education Nation project); doctors; and, school districts. While most everyone’s contributions are varied, it is the Pearson Publishing contributions that are the most pointed…toward MORE parent involvement. If you’re not familiar with the ideas Pearson has about more parent involvement (a nice way to phrase their real meaning of ‘compliance’), I urge you to find out for yourselves. As far as “Education Nation’s Parent Toolbox” goes, it’s slam full of pro CCSS social-emotional mind bending.

The Mind Bending:

By simply searching the PT (Parent Toolkit) with the phrase “Common Core”, I got back the following results: Academics, 12 articles;  Health and Wellness, 19 articles; Social and Emotional, 8 articles; lastly, the latest news on CCSS, 48 articles.
Titles among the latest news include how grit and persevering CAN be taught and then there’s one detailing their version of STEM (as you know, I’ve shared a true version of STEM with you many times). Repeated in several different articles: sex, bullying, on-line behavior, money management, and lots more. Under social/emotional, you’ll see empathy, diversity, and how to collaborate. As far as the experts putting all this information together for you, the parent, there are several of them. You’ll see their names and smiling faces, but to learn more about them, you need to click on each of them. I would encourage you to look into them. Most folks, will do what we’ve seen before: add the ‘expert’ title to a face featured on a famous website and leave it at that. That’s what the CCSS Machine is banking on..that we WON’T investigate those experts they use. But, oh, how we’ve proved them wrong.

Curious about how many of the experts were dyed in the wool CCSS supporters, I searched for information. Not getting the results I bargained for, however, did lead me to the ‘other’ pro CCSS groups involved in ‘Parent Toolkit’ and as such, part of the efforts to sway parents toward the CCSS Machine.

Second, why not visit the Twitter page for the School Year Resolution and make a few anti CCSS truths available.
Look into the Parent Toolkit’s experts, philosophies, and use these are guidelines for interviewing those school officials who will be leading your students this year. Are they of the same mindset? If so, use your true knowledge of social emotional damage CCSS causes! Remember, most pro CCSS folks have no evidence to support its worth, yet we have evidence to support its harm! Use it!!

So, my anti CCSS Warriors, what is your Back to School Wish? We know we want to be Common Core free. We still have time to influence our national level legislators as they are home on break right now. The Student Success Act and the Every Child Achieves Act are both being updated and enlarged. The bills are’omnibus’ bills. This is BAD. As we’ve seen with other mammoth bills, this means all kinds legislation unrelated to education will be thrown in! We know we desire a post secondary education free of the CCSS’s CTE (Career Technical Education), CP (Career Pathways), and the recently revealed CBPs (Competency Based Pathways). This means we must be on top of the re-authorization of the HEA, Higher Education Act.

Tech Thursday: Career Pathways Meet Competency Based Pathways

Just released a day or so ago,  an article describing how Achieve, Inc (a huge part of the CCSS Machine) and the NASDCTEc (National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium) joined forces to complete their look at how the progress between Career and Technical Education and Competency Based Pathways was coming along.

According to the article, each state has BOTH a CTE arm AND a CBP arm. If you’ve followed my blog long, you know we’ve delved into the CTE side of Common Core quite a bit. Today, we’ll look at the CBP side of Common Core. Below is the screen shot from the NC CBP documents sharing webspace.

Here’s one short statement directly from the article that we need to have in fighting to save our educational systems and all who are involved in them.
“One system that has often been overlooked in conversations about competency based pathways has been that of career technical education (CTE).”

This particular framework gives lots of great anti Common Core warrior information. You can see which pro CCSS groups are involved in reshaping what education is really accomplishing; you’ll see the states not embracing a big push to complete their CBP (Competency Based Pathways) strategies; you’ll see the states in the throes of completing their CBP designs; you’ll learn which states are ‘racing ahead’ in their CBP grasp on our students.

Here’s the basic idea about state policies in education, at least in the CBP Way:
a) ‘good’ policy moves include using students outcome to drive precedents.
b) ‘guarding’ those high quality academic standards
c) ‘create’ a community wide education effort (ie: must include ALL ‘stakeholders’)
d) offer incentives to help force certain outcomes and remove any rules or regulations not encouraging ‘more ways to learn/earn’

Some other great information you can use to fight the CCSS Machine’s grasp on local education:
“seat time waivers”
CBP exploratory task forces
CBP pilot programs
Flexible credit awards (means there’s more than one way to earn that degree)
Expanding educational offerings so the entire K-12 system, the community, is not only involved in CBP, but thriving in it.
Elimination of certain educational parameters that have serve our communities for long periods of time.
Aligning ALL K-12 students with CBP choices.

These items AND others are being used to re-arrange education infrastructure right under our noses!

What do I mean? Here’s the excerpt from NC’s CBP information for an Advanced CBP state:
“A few states are racing ahead, designing policies that boldly advance competency-based learning. They provide excellent building blocks in the nascent field of competency-based systems for designing comprehensive state policy frameworks. Drawing upon the lessons learned from the most advanced states, an initial starting point for aligning the policy infrastructure include: 

  • Eliminate seat-time and redefine awarding credits based on competencies.
  • Require districts to offer competency-based credits so that students have competency-based options.
  • Provide support mechanisms including technical assistance providers to create competencies, train teachers, and establish information management systems.
  • Establish quality-control mechanisms to safeguard equity and to ensure that higher expectations for student learning are not compromised. 
  • Expand learning options in the community, after school, and in online courses.
  • Align higher education with K–12 competency-based efforts. Teacher training, college admissions, and streamlining budgets to support accelerated learning are all critical elements to creating a sustainable competency-based approach.

Anti CCSS/CTE Warriors, are you sick and tired of the repeated lies we hear about how the CCSS is just K-12th grades? I got fed up with it from the beginning. That’s why I’ve specialized in researching all the other areas of education CCSS swears it is..but, oh how we know it is.

To that end I’m devoting the rest of this article to the POST SECONDARY evidence new followers of my blog and/or new anti CC Warriors will need to have access to. Why? If you don’t have access to this information, it’s very likely our legislators don’t have it either. As a dedicated warrior/researcher in the War Against the Core. We need to share this type of information with those in the authoritative positions SO they can help END Common Core, Career Tech Education, and all the related components of the CCSS Machine.

Each of the article links below are from previously published researched posts. Each is written so you have the facts, not opinions. Each contains links to the documents to support the truth and/or dispel the lies. We’ve not much time before the HEA (Higher Education Act) is set to be re-authorized.

Why your legislators need to know this: the movement to make community colleges into workforce stations, as well as offer courses for ‘free’. There’s a dangerous misinformed mindset out there surrounding ‘free tuition’.
As we’ve seen, NOTHING about Common Core is ‘free’ or worth investing in.

Selling points have been that the schools are local, a great bang for your education buck, not as stringent with admissions, have a better professor/student ratio. This of course, may change drastically as we continue to see Common Core implemented in whatever fashion the states choose. One fact is for certain: if we only seek to rid K-12 schools of Common Core, we’re not really going to be as effective as if we consider the Standards are before kindergarten and extend to colleges of all distinctions.”

What your legislators need to know: acting on the orders of the current U.S. President, the Vice President has been a big leader in aligning post secondary education and the workforce.

The one portion of the memo creating this task for Joe Biden you should share, ”  “Job-Driven Reform of Federal Employment and Training Programs. (a) Within 180 days of the date of this memorandum and in coordination with the Office of the Vice President, the National Economic Council, the Domestic Policy Council, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Office of Management and Budget, the Secretaries of Labor, Commerce, and Education(Secretaries), in consultation with other executive departments and agencies as appropriate, shall develop a specific action plan, to be provided to me through the Vice President, tomake the workforce and training system more job-driven, integrated, and effective.”Among one of the ‘concrete steps’, is this:  “ensuring better alignment across secondary,post-secondary, and adult education, and workforce training, including coordinating Federal programs and promoting foundational skill development for employability, on-the-job training, and apprenticeship options..” then:  “encouraging effective regionalpartnerships among industry, educators, worker representatives, nonprofits, and the workforce system to prepare, support, and train youth, unemployed workers, low-skilled employed adults, and others for career path employment and advancement.” “

The second most important thing to share, is how Perkins funding is being manipulated to fit the CCSS Machine’s needs, ” Maintains state administrative funding at 5 percents of a state’s allocation
The new law also requires the development of articulation agreements and strengthens local
accountability provisions. The Perkins Act provides almost $1.3 billion annually to career and technical education programs in all 50 states until 2016.’ Each state gets to decide how to split the funding between secondary schools and post-secondary schools. What your legislators need to know: the 10th Amendment plainly states NO federal involvement in what wasn’t laid out in Amendments 1-9! Education, along with several other states rights issues, are to NOT have ANY federal influence..including money! As one who has been elected to represent the citizens and taken an oath to uphold our U.S. Constitution, these legislators should NOT be seeking federal funds for education..period. Common Core/Career Tech at the post secondary level included! They also need to know how other federal level agencies are chiming in and using funds in the name of CCSS/CTE for post secondary levels.

Tech Thursday: Part Two of the HEA, STEM, the Workforce, and America

Last we were ‘together’, anti CCSS Warriors, I was sharing with you how the Higher Education Act (of 1965) is set for a re-authorization sometime very soon. We were able to connect the dots between the purposed alignment between the pre-K to 12th grade and post-secondary levels of education. In the last article, you saw how the current members in the U.S. House of Representatives have put together many bills related to re-vamping higher education. As I closed Tuesday’s article I promised you we’d look at the S1398 (Senate’s version of the “America Competes” Act), how we would tie it to not only STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and, Math), but to CTE (Career and Technical Education)as well. CTE is the ‘adult version’ of the pre-K through 12th grade CCSS. (I’ve shared with you repeatedly exactly how this is documented.)

Today’s article will prove to be a distinct eye-opener. So much so, I’m even shaking my head in just how interconnected the American reform is proving to be. Warriors, we’ve known the real agenda behind the education reform is the trained workforce. We’ve seen how the 2014 passage of the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) has embedded CTE (written in via one of its other names, Career Pathways) and is woven into the legislation at least 21 times, per a high ranking U.S. Dept. of Labor spokesman.

Part One gave you vital information as to just HOW the WIOA and HEA are united via the CCSS Machine. A machine which includes those in public office as well in private business.

 

So just what is “America Competes”? It’s designed to involve America’s energy competitiveness in the global scheme, the ‘need’ for 21st Century technology (which includes energy efficiency, climate control, and other related activities here in America) AND education that’s aligned with Pre-K through 12th grade CCS Standards. As we know, CCSS can also mean ‘college and career ready standards’, ‘essential standards’, ‘career pathways’, ‘career clusters’, and on and on the names go.
(*Note: While I’ve not studied any of the ‘AC’ legislative bills in-depth, it does appear that the U.S. Dept. of Energy, along with the NSF {National Science Foundation; another federal level government entity}, get to influence the U.S. Dept. of Education in HOW to align courses, scholarships, etc. to fit all of the above into “America Competes”!  How will this be BEST accomplished? STEM and its related programs. This will include the STEaM, Common Core, Next Generation Science and MORE!)

All this “American competitiveness” is to be completed in the name of scientific research.

S1398, “America Competes”: 

As I shared on Tuesday, both the Democrats and the Republicans of the Senate like this bill. (The House has 2 versions, one which the sitting Republicans like, one the sitting Democrats like)
Here are some facts about S1398, you, the anti CCSS Warrior need the most:
a) the sponsor of the bill? Sen. Lamar Alexander (as is one of the chief people in rewriting the ESEA, and the HEA)
b) it was introduced in May 2015
c) it has many co-sponsors from both main political parties, every one of whom voted ‘yes’ to the ‘Every Child Achieves’ Act, also headed up by Sen. Alexander (Sen. Murray was also heading up the ECAA ‘charge’)
d) it is classified as an ‘energy’ bill, not an ‘education’ bill
e) while much shorter than its counter part bills in the House, it does involve ‘talent expansion’ programs, lots of taxpayer money, certain data NOT being made available to the public, “National Laboratories”, public-private partnerships being encouraged and incentive driven, removing duplicate authority in the “Science Enhancement Education” realm within the U.S. Dept. of Energy (question is, who gets to the be ONE authority?), protecting the PACE graduate program, giving ‘early career awards’, rewarding schools which drive up the attendance and graduation rates, and merit pay based peer reviews. (Does any of this sound anything remotely like what we’ve seen the primary and secondary educational reform? Of course it does! It’s MORE CCSS Machine rhetoric) While much shorter at the moment, remember the bill could grow by leaps and bounds when all is said and done.

It appears, from what I can find, that the U.S. Dept. of Energy is really throwing its educational influence towards the Workforce in the “Smart Grid” sector. One such example comes from the MS Gulf Coast Community College. See: Mississippi-Gulf-Coast-CC-Workforce-Development-Electric-Power-Sector
Now, if you’ve followed my blog for very long, you know how I’ve given you proof of how the community colleges across the nation have aligned themselves to the CCSS Machine. From the CCSS derived ‘Adult Standards’ to the CTE courses, hybrid classes (meaning on-line and in-person), and, beyond.

What you’ll find is more about the energy stance, the economy, or other items than you ever will about the academic nature of the student achieving a “Smart Grid” workforce degree. Why? Because, as we’ve seen time and time again, in all things related to the CCSS Machine, academics as we’ve known them, take a backseat to service. As you might notice, the above gives you a birds-eye view of how the U.S. Dept. of Energy has been able to influence the Workforce angle of education.

 

The White House Chimes In:

Back in 2010, the “America Competes” Act helped create “CoSTEM”. The purpose? According to the White House’s website, it was to co-ordinate the federal level activities in STEM education. (*Note: Does anyone recognize that ‘federal level activities’ violates the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution?!)

One of the co-chairs to CoSTEM is from the NSF (National Science Foundation). I’ve given you plenty of evidence how the NSF has been party to aligning our education, but a great reminder as to HOW is found below.

Closing:

I truly hope you’ve been able to see my point in sharing what I have to complete the look at just how toxic the revamping of any educational choice is when put through the CCSS Machine’s cycle for America. If you’ve not, I’ll try to summarize below.
1) Any educational re-authorization currently on the table which impacts pre-K through grad school is seemingly under one man’s domain: Sen. Lamar Alexander.
2) The public-private partnership which makes up the CCSS Machine is impacting education from a birth to grave aspect. This will include not only our pre-K through grad school choices, but also our entire communities. Is this really what’s best for America?
3) That by ensuring every federal law possible that can influence an alignment to the Workforce agenda can happen, we see our human lives are less considered than the economy. How did I arrive at this point? Simple, look at the CCSS Machine agenda, it’s more about economy than personality.
4) Finally, by allowing a CCSS/CTE aligned Higher Education bill to pass, we see the cement ‘bridge’ completed from the earliest of American lives to the oldest completed.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s not a cement bridge, but, a cement block. The CCSS Machine wants you to envision a bridge to cross over when in reality it’s a cement block tied to your ankle to drag you down…and remember..it’s all in the name of ‘education’.

FTF: Update for STEM, Workforce, and the HEA, Part One

Warriors against the CCSS Machine. We know that Machine includes STEM, Career Tech Education, and Workforce. , it’s been very well researched and documented. We’ve seen the train wreck Congress made out of the Student Success Act, the Every Child Achieves Act. We won’t have to wait much longer to see what is revealed when the re-authorized version of the Higher Education Act appears. Today, it’s a quick review of where the bill is and then an update of what we can prepare for.

Remember, the BEST warrior is a PRO-ACTIVE warrior.

Review:

1) The HEA (Higher Education Act) was created roughly the same time as the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act); 1965.

2) Ted Mitchell, from the U.S. Dept. of Education has been quietly working on helping re-vamp the HEA while Sen. Alexander has been much more vocal in re-vamping ALL education to align with the CCSS Machine. How do I know this? 4) All of the rewritten, reauthorized education acts have a united purpose: WIOA
See this excerpt from my June 2015 article titled, “Halting a CCSS/CTE Aligned Workforce?”:“To the Warriors against the ‘Core’, we’ve learned over and over that the CCSS Machine has many parts to it. Those parts include Career Clusters, Career Pathways, the American Apprenticeship Initiative, Career and Technical Education, and the  Common  Core Standards (which encompass every subject, including the Arts and PE).

One of the biggest parts of the Machine? That would be the amount of legislation expressly written to protect the embedding of all this illegally based education reform!

To date one of the most important pieces of this type of legislation is the (already passed as  a law in 2014 on the federal level) WIOA. Also known as the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.”

Updates:

Where is the new version of the HEA, now? We’ll get to that it a bit.

1) Let’s see what related moves have been made. Why? Think back to the amendments offered to be attached to the mammoth Every Child Achieves Act. Much of the plan behind those amendments was to add in key pieces of language created to meet specific goals, or, in the case of the public/private partnered CCSS Machine, the agenda. When the newer version of the HEA is presented, don’t think similar tactics won’t be used. They absolutely will. How do I know?

See this excerpt from May 2015, “In a joint statement released on May 21, Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) announced the formation of bipartisan working groups tasked with addressing four key areas within the Higher Education Act (HEA) reauthorization. The four working groups, composed of HELP committee staff from both parties, will focus on issues of accountability, accreditation, college affordability and financial aid, and campus sexual assault. Though committee staff will lead the meetings, all Senate HELP Committee members will be invited to attend. Senators Alexander and Murray noted they look forward to the bipartisan collaboration in the weeks to come as the reauthorization process continues to progress. Remember all the ‘bipartisanship’ used in HR5 and S1177? Refer back to ‘confessional’, if you will, by Sens. Alexander/Murray where the pro CCSS groups helping create the legislation were thanked publicly! (*Note, if you didn’t know it, when a legislator publicly thanks a person, group, or business, it is because they were extremely involved and partly responsible for the success of the legislation passing!)

2) “America Competes”, both the U.S. House and Senate have bills with this name (HR1806, the Republican version/HR 1898, the Democratic version/S1398, supported by both parties)

2a) HR1806:
This version has passed the House, already has 4 amendments and 11 related bills! Here’s an excerpt from Section 115 you have to read, It is the sense of Congress that(1) in order to bolster the STEM workforce pipeline, many industry sectors are becoming involved in K–12 initiatives and supporting undergraduate and graduate work in STEM subject areas and fields,(2) partnerships with education providers, STEM focused competitions, and other opportunities have become important aspects of private sector efforts to strengthen the STEM workforce;(3) understanding the work that private sector organizations are undertaking in STEM fields should inform the Federal Government’s role in STEM education; and(4) successful private sector STEM initiatives, as reflected by measurements of relevant outcomes, should be encouraged and supported by the Foundation.” (*Note “Foundation” refers to the National Science Foundation)

Think a STEM pipeline workforce doesn’t sound like a bad thing for America? 2b) HR1898:
This version passed before the Memorial Day holiday and gives the National Science Foundation (NSF),  the U.S. Dept. of Energy, and other related groups MORE funding. Why? To step up STEM, especially where energy is concerned. Now, that may sound like no big deal, however, consider what many of those of us who oppose CCSS, CTE have discovered about not only STEM, but the NSF’s ties to the CCSS Machine. One of my very first articles gave you the document where it was stated STEM would be THE goal and that Common Core was to be the means to achieve that goal. Since then, I’ve given you more information about NSF. NSF has been tied to CCSS in so many ways, it should be criminal. (See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/02/18/wybiupclosewithnsf/ )
To read the short summary statement of the HR1898’s text it plainly states the purpose is to improve America’s competitiveness AND other purposes. Sections 201-205 spell out the STEM, STEaM, and Workforce agenda. (STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; STEaM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math). Finally, where’s the HEA now? It’s not in any one bill yet; rather there are several HEA re-authorization bills in Congress. You can find this when you access the link from Congress. However, don’t assume this link contains the only ones on the table. There are others related to them, or others with different names. Ones we need to watch will contain many of the CCSS Machine buzzwords like ‘outcome based education’, ‘reform’, ‘opportunity’, etc. Also, consider what committees these bills are coming from and are currently in. Monday Musings: Is There a Better Way?

Anti CCSS Warriors, we’ve made progress in the battle for wiping out CCSS, we’re on the move to now include the adult version, CTE. After going on another ‘undercover’ research trip into the ‘world of education’ this weekend, I came away with a few muse worthy findings. These, of course, lead to questions we Warriors need to consider in this extremely important ‘War Against the Core’!

What I Discovered:

1) A definite shift in what is being highlighted at educational conventions, conferences from academics to services.
2) A distinct ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ aura. I saw this in action with one educational service where the parents, teachers, and students were drawn in like flies. The service is 100% aligned to CCSS, CTE, yet THAT fact was no where in sight. What was? Colorful prizes, discounts for signing up right away, and how much smarter your child would be by learning to read with a computer leading the way.
3) Since I’ve attended many, many educational conventions, conferences, symposiums, curriculum fairs, and the like, I know where the focus has been and is now shifting. I’ve been able to meet and interact with educators of ALL types, in all the different choices out there. Of all the folks I met with on this particular journey, less than 1 dozen noticed what I did…that educating our students in academics is being changed right before our eyes.
4) Laws in different states are also being updated to reflect the need for more accrediting from those schools which have, up to now, been just fine in graduating students. An example? Changing the scholarship requirements from ‘open to all graduating seniors’ to ‘open to graduating seniors with an accredited diploma’. For some schools, like homeschools, this will continue to be a warning sign of more control, more alignment to the ‘more traditional system’.

 

What’s The Solution?

In a recent conversation with a education professor who’s also an author and holds a doctoral degree, we were sharing how it’s been great to have so much information point to what’s wrong about Common Core and it’s ‘cousin’, Career and Technical Education, but who’s got a solution to offer as an alternative? This is a great question for us to not only ponder, but to get busy on. Our legislators are being bamboozled by the giant CCSS Machine, the Business RoundTable, the Chambers of Commerce on the “Who, When, Where, Why, and How” of CCSS/CTE. Very few of these elected men and women have seen the light that we, the anti CCSS Warriors have.

I’ve shared with you, as have others opposed to the CCSS Machine, there has been a credible solution offered by a dedicated group of NC citizens for the K-12 educational system. The “NC Plan” has been publicized nation wide as a worthy, CCSS free framework.
Freedom Project Education has purposed itself to be 100% CCSS free in its K-12 virtual school. However, as the professor and I were sharing in our conversation, we MUST have an alternative for the Post-Secondary CCSS/CTE overhaul. If we don’t all the K-12 CCSS free moves will be absolutely negated. The assessments, the data mining, and other K-12 CCSS tools are also in post-secondary education. We’d like to see those go away, too.

The CCSS Machine will be 100% successful in claiming all the post-secondary students it possibly can IF we, the anti CCSS Warriors, do not focus on this huge, yet under-discussed issue. Remember, post-secondary education encompasses EVERY citizen in this nation, who chooses to return to the classroom. EVERY taxpayer’s hard earned dollar is going to help fund (as it already has been doing) the CCSS/CTE alignment.

There are others out there just as purposed to freeing the post-secondary educational world of CCSS/CTE. There are a few institutions NOT CCSS/CTE aligned. However, with the rewriting of the ESEA of 1965 (Elementary and Secondary Education Act), the recent passages of BOTH the HR5 and S1177 (Student Success Act/Every Child Achieves Act, respectively), AND the up-coming bills for “College Promise” Act, updated “Higher Education” Act, any school receiving any type of federal education (and in most cases state education) dollars, will have NO choice in remaining free of the CCSS/CTE agenda. In short, all of the above cement the bridge between K-12 and post-secondary education.

We know, now, how the post-secondary educational world has been helpful in creating and continuing Common Core. We know, now, how post-secondary institutions are being turned into a grooming parlor for more CCSS/CTE drones. (examples of this can be found in my older articles about the colleges where education majors are being taught to teach only CCSS/CTE)

We know, without the shadow of a doubt our time to have a CCSS/CTE free America is short.

I urge you to contact Sen. Mike Lee, who is seeking folks like us to address the post-secondary educational dilemma.  His current higher education proposal(known as the HERO Act) is a start. While, from the summary, reads like another way to streamline education, it’s an avenue for feedback, we’ve not had before. By us providing people of influence with the credible facts and research we have about the CCSS Machine in post-secondary education, I think we can make a big difference. I’ve reached out to the Senator. I hope you, as my comrades, will do the same.
