CTE’s Open Memo

To: All Career Tech Educational Instructors {CTE} (K-12, post-secondary in public, private, or for-profit educational institutions)

From: The Common Core Diva

CC: All anti Fed Ed Warriors, regardless of school choice

Subject: Impact of shift from academics to workforce in your workplace

Summary: Due in part from the United States federal government’s agreement with the United Nations to uphold and adhere to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals); Congress’s legislation to create WIOA {Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act} and the STEM Act {Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math}; re-write and re-authorize both the ESEA {Elementary and Secondary Education Act} and the HEA {Higher Education Act}. ESEA is now the ESSA {Every Student Succeeds Act}, HEA remains the same..for now. Also responsible for this shift in your workplace are the P3s {Public Private Partnerships}. These P3s will be either globally active or locally active; some will be both.

Changes You May See Now, or, Will See Soon:

1) An increase in computer training to earn digital badges or credentialed certificates thereby creating a decrease in hard copy books or instructional manuals. This is usually promoted as a way to ‘go green and save paper’. In reality, it’s a way to create a ‘life-long learning’ track of employability for you. In most instances, these courses are used for giving a teacher/leader a ‘promotion’. Ususally, these are mere lateral steps, not actual promotions. As such, you may see (or not see) your income increased. These tracks are usually professionally developed by various CCSS (Common Core State Standards) supportive groups or organizations. Because CTE IS Common Core (by a different name), your training is aligned to meet THOSE standards. Most of the time, in addition to your company’s policy for training and leadership. Teachers/Leaders, remember the Business Roundtable, several unions, and almost every major corporation have backed this shift in education from academics to workforce for years. CTE has given them the opportunity to do it in the name of ‘jobs’. Our federal government uses it as a tool to sell human diginity in exchange for a better economy.

AK assess

2) A shift you will NOT see, but is happening to you is a direct result of #1. That is data mining. Yes, your computer based training is captured, studied, and shared by countless educational groups and any other group they work with or are contracted to work with. This data, is also shared on the federal government level, as well as globally. Why? Your ‘competency’ is measured to be used against you later on. If you do not ‘teach’ well, your students do not ‘learn’ well. These 2 factors are weighed against the entire school. If a post-secondary school doesn’t measure up to the accrediting body’s standards (also directly overseen by the U.S. Dept. of Education and those post-secondary accrediation organizations it works with), funding is cut. Which means, pay cuts or lay-offs become a bigger reality.

UNdatatrack

3) CTE teacher/leader ‘incentives’  are part of the ESSA mandates for workforce-based education. On Page 17 of the Law, it is plainly stated that ALL education must be post-secondary readiness aligned as per the WIOA definition of ‘readiness’. That definition?! “Career and College Ready” (which is another name for Common Core and Career Tech Education). However, instructors, the strings by which you may earn these ‘incentives’ is hardly worth the price. Expect more monitoring of your student’s contributions in class; group based projects/group collective grades; their behaviors and attitudes (College and Career Ready calls it SEL, social emotional learning); expect that you will have to jump through more hoops than ever to be qualified to teach, but NOT how you wish to lead, but by a contrived system. As part of the re-writing of the HEA, expect more of this kind of micro-management of your schools. Consider, if your school loses accrediation for lack of credentialed leaders or enough graduates, you may be out of a job.
(Remember, as a post-secondary educational institution, public, private, or for-profit, your largest funding stream is CTE money based on students from ages 5-17, regardless of what school they attend.)

foxxed

4) How does a student become Career and College ReadyCareer Tracks!  Assessments! These do not only show up in traditional K-12th grade schools. They are present in early college programs, trade schools apprenticeships, dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, AP courses and IB courses. All of which are accessed by ALL education choices, including home education. Any extra curricular STEM program is also part of the Career Tracking and Assessments.

ccappre
Some of the companies here love CTE and Career Pathways. They also are unabashedly supportive of CC aligned citizens.

Teachers/leaders, do not be surprised if you see an increase in the number of tests your students must take. Look out especially for the assessment called “WorkKeys”. If a student hasn’t received it in a K-12th grade institution, it may be an added requirement at your school, given upon admissions. “WorkKeys” is most definitely a Common Core/CTE alignment tool to groom students for their career tracks. These tests do not take into consideration talents or desires of students. Whatever skill -based results the WorkKeys gives, is what your student’s education will be streamlined to. Look for buzzwords like “personalized learning” or ‘personalized instruction’. These are ‘code’ for data mining, career tracking algorithms for both teacher and student.

deludeded

Questions for Reflection:
Is this why I wanted to teach? Is this how I wish to continue to teach? Will the cost of college, career schools continue to increase? If so, how much of MY tax dollars will be used? Will these dollars be used as I choose? Since I receive a portion of these tax dollars as my salary, am I okay with this shift in education?
If I stay in my teaching position, how can I fight this overreach in my school?  Is my stance helping promote this kind of governmental control to succeed, or, is there a way I can strike an effective blow?

Closing:

CTE teachers/leaders, if you have any questions, need more information, I urge you to contact me as soon as possible. I am available here, on my blog.

Know Thy Local Board, Parts 1 and 2

Part One:

Warriors Against Common Core, how well do you know your local school board? Are you a school board member? If so, how well do you know the State laws for your important position in the community? If you are a school board member, read what I’ve found and ask yourself, ‘Am I okay with this?’
These questions and more await us in today’s in-depth article.

The Search Began:

I was recently contacted by a concerned NC citizen. She needed help in figuring out what is State law for school boards, does local policy adhere to State law, and, is there any policy which side-steps the State, and goes to a federal level of compliance. All excellent questions.

I shared with her I’d already found one NC county school board with a local policy which, from all appearances, seems to side-step the State of NC and pledge compliance to the federal level. (See below)

caldwell1

Warriors, I profess that I am not a lawyer, but with a policy which reads like this, it certainly calls into question, why is a county school board appearing to go around the State law to pledge adherence at the federal level?

FYI: The ‘NC Standard Course of Study’, aka, ‘Essential Standards’ (Common Core rebrand) are written into State law. Look for NC General Statute 115C, Article 8.

While I didn’t find a similar policy for the county I was contacted about, what I found in our State law is worth sharing. It also gives us some BIG questions to have answered!

Part Two:

The School Board Laws In NC General Statute 115C, Article 5:

1) Access the Statute here. You’ll notice that the specific legislation is 22 pages. One of the most immediate concerns we should all be thinking ahead about: Will school boards across America change much under the ESSA mandates?

1’s Reality: Here in NC, our school boards are locally elected. However, not every State is the same. Elected or not, what does it mean locally? ESSA  increases power, both at federal and State levels.

2) In the paragraph marked 115C-36 (Page 1), Said boards of education shall have general control and supervision of all matters pertaining to the public schools in their respective administrative units and they shall enforce the school law in their respective units.”
The big questions: What is ‘school law’? Does the ‘enforcement’ mean ‘any and all measures’? What group holds the school board in check to ensure local citizens there’s no manipulation of the assigned power?

2’s Reality: Under ESSA, all education MUST be aligned to post-secondary readiness as defined by WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act). WIOA is not a specific ‘school law’. It DOES encompass education, but it is, after all, a U.S. Dept. of Labor law. How will NC, or, for that matter, ANY State, fare locally with their school boards when a workforce based law dictates education?!

3) Near the bottom of Page 2 and continuing on Page 3, “The local board of education shall revise electoral district boundaries from time to time as provided by this subsection.”
Wait, What?! Yes, according to NC Law, local boards can adjust districts. BUT these are depedent on federal Census information. Supposedly, the benefit is financial, BUT, consider these realities, Warriors:

a) The Census is being used by the CCSS Machine to orchestrate neighborhoods, manhandle museums and libraries, and more. From right here, in the town I live in, an excerpt from this article about local control and federal overreach.
“* You will see lots of data (includes the U.S. Census) and graphs used to support the moves; you’ll see the increased push for social and economic equality;”

b) ESSA’s codification of Promise Neighborhoods, as well as the continued creation of 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

c) Does your State have ‘Prosperity Zones’? NC does. There’s even another State Statute in place to streamline jobs and their training. By now, we know that ESSA is the ‘missing link’ between jobs and training. While the article about the Zones is from 2015, you can see just how overreaching the federal government is and how State districts will directly play into the overreaches.

4) Page 4, under the paragraph 115C-40, this excerpt, “Local boards of education, subject to any paramount powers vested by law in the State Board of Education or any other authorized agency shall have general control and supervision of all matters pertaining to the public schools in their respective local school administrative units;”
Your big question here should be, does my State have similar language? If so, what other agencies in addition to the SBE, have control over my school board? What about heavy influence over the school board, is there a tie to the CCSS Machine?

5) Pages 9-21 spell out the 63 responsibilites and powers  local school boards in NC have, as well as are authorized to carry out. I won’t list all 63, but, I will point to the ones we should all be looking at, regardless of where you live. Each will be followed by a question to consider.
5’s Realities: a)  “To Provide the Opportunity to Receive a Sound Basic Education”, page 9.
Who decides the soundness of a basic education? ESSA says the States must have the Secretary of Education’s approval for what’s taught. Where’s the local control there?

b) “To Regulate Extracurricular Activities”. With ESSA’s 24/7/365 mandate for anytime, anywhere learning (you can’t have student achievement without being hooked to a computer device), this is going to be almost impossible for local school boards to carry out.
(Refer back to the embedded articles above about wrap around services in the community.)

c) “To Accept and Administer Federal or Private Funds”, page 10. Warriors, this is huge!
ESSA increases the amount of P3s in our schools. P3s are public-private partnerships. We have seen the damage of P3s in our educational systems across America. One of the biggest supporters for interferring business with education is Business RoundtableBR was big on Common Core; they are also behind CC’s other names: CCR (College and Career Ready) and CTE (Career Tech Education). Let’s not forget some other big names in creating P3 overload in our local schools: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, your State Chambers, and Bill Gates. (*Note: Items 32, 32a, 34, and, 34a on Page 15 are directly related to MORE P3 education through Career Tech Education, Community Colleges, or School-to-Work.)

d) “To Sponsor or Conduct Educational Research”, bottom of Page 10. ESSA’s ‘educational research’ includes an in-home assessment for how well connected to the internet everyone is America is. See my article. Also, Warriors, any time you see ‘educational research’, think of what the underlying activity: data mining. Then, the big question: What group or groups did my local school board hire?

e) “To Adopt Rules and Policies Limiting the Noninstructional Duties of Teachers”, Page 13.
ESSA’s not kind to teachers at all. They are expected to teach to post-secondary readiness, regardless of age or grade, their pay will be factored by overall student success and engagement, AND, they will become quasi-doctors via the social emotional learning and behavior interventions. (*Notes: Look directly below the ‘teachers’ on Page 13 and you’ll see their training, as well as principals. Use all 3 embedded links directly above and apply. Then, refer to Page 18, Items 43 and 46) Our big question here: What pro CCSS/CCR/CTE/STEM groups is my school using at their discretion OR the State’s bidding which train, incentivize, or other wise reward for aligning teachers to ESSA?

f) Page 15, “To Appoint Advisory Councils”. This is legalized in yet another NC State General Statute. Appointing key positions is dangerous. No vote means no voice. This, in the long run, mutes the taxpayer’s and parent’s voices. Big question: Are these ‘advisors’ local or are they somehow connected to the educational reform?

Closing:

I noticed in searching some of the NC local school board policy pages, that more than 1 have not only our State Board of Ed to satisfy, but AdvancED, too. What is AdvancED? A  sold out CCSS Machine member organization. In my County, the exact words are:
“Maintain accreditation of its schools by AdvancED and/or the State Board of Education.”

We’ll pick this up in my next article, Warriors. We’ll also address how city school boards, private schools, home education, and, charters authorities will be treated in the ‘ESSA Era’

Pot Stirring

Warriors Against the Core, what do you get when you take an at-home ‘teachable moment’ and add digital badges?!  You get a CCSS pot stirring lesson.

Look below and see if you can see the hiding-in-plain-sight CCSS/STEM themed agenda.

uncleben

Uncle Ben:

What you see above is from the name brand “Uncle Ben” rice. The cooking with your family concept is wonderful. It’s part of how we bond. It’s a great way for parents to guide their children. However, not everything connected to education needs an agenda. So, IS there an agenda to the Uncle Ben’s current project?!

The company behind Uncle Ben’s  is Mars Food North America. Back in Oct. 2015, Mars/Uncle Ben’s conducted an educational survey. Here’s an excerpt about the survey. “Between both the survey and video, the goal was to have parents stop and ask themselves if they were taking the same level of passion around homework into the kitchen to teach their children how to cook,” said Andrew Cops, U.S. Director of Marketing. He went on to state, “Cooking is an integral part of a child’s development because it teaches them math when they measure out ingredients, science when they bring things together and reading as they learn to understand and decipher recipes.”
If you’d like to see the entire Press Release and see the video mentioned in the excerpt,
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/the-uncle-bens-brand-shines-light-on-missing-piece-of-childrens-education-through-parent-survey-300154870.html

Let me pause here to say that I think teaching kids to cook is absolutely vital. My concern is as always, is there more just under the surface we should know? For example, is Mars Food North America a CCSS backing company? Is the ‘Homework Direct’ service featured in the video a real service? Is the “Ben’s Beginner Program simply a way to teach cooking, or is there CCSS or any of its related alignment present in the Project?

Mars and Common Core?!

Mars Foods (aka Mars, Inc.) is a global company. They make more than rice and candy, however. Pet foods are among their products. They also are the company behind Banfield Pet Hospitals and many other products/services.
Mars, Inc. is also into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). STEM is a big part of CTE, Career Tech Education, which is part of Common Core. Mars is involved with fossil fuels, solar energy, green house gas emissions. Their webpages on these will show you they are convinced (and thus leading others to the same conclusion) that the climate change is a big, scary deal. See: http://www.mars.com/global/doing-our-part/principles-in-action

Mars, Inc. has their own “Career Paths”. As you may know Common Core also uses the phrase “Career Pathways” as part of  CTE, Career Tech Education. To see Mars’ ‘Paths’:
http://www.mars.com/global/careers/explore

Mars, Inc. believes in, and participates in P3s (public private partnerships) in education. Through the Wrigley Foundation (as in Wrigley’s Chewing Gum). See:
http://www.mars.com/global/doing-our-part/community-outreach/people-societies/improving-education-through-partnership
(*Note: to see the Wrigley Foundation’s overreach into the classroom with CCSS and STEM, see this CA school: https://dornsife.usc.edu/wrigley/foodforthought/ )

Mars, Inc. is a member of the Business RoundTable. A HUGE ed/workforce, Common Core; Career Tech Ed; CCSS Machine member organization. If you haven’t seen the latest pro CCSS/CTE/STEM propaganda out of the BRT, you can find it here:
http://businessroundtable.org/issues/education-workforce

The Uncle Ben’s Project:
The Mars Foods/Uncle Ben’s project is called “Ben’s Beginners”. You can see, above, what the purpose of the Beginner’s project is. There is more, however. Look below:

ricecontest
Okay, winning something for your school isn’t too bad, BUT…

ricepta
Knowing that the National PTA is a CCSS Machine member, we need to ask about our State PTAs or local PTAs. Are they, too, aligned?! (see: http://www.pta.org/commoncore)
For all the promotion are expected to do in the picture above, all you get for motivation is coupon worth less than $3.00!

You can download the official Press Kit, https://beginners.unclebens.com/docs/default-source/about/pr-toolkit.pdf?sfvrsn=2

The resources for PTA/PTOs can be found: https://www.unclebens.com/ben’s-beginners/for-schools

As far as the ‘digital badges’? You receive them upon completing each recipe/lesson. For example, when you click on the link below, notice the steps as the link loads. “Polishing badge” will appear. See:
https://beginners.unclebens.com/lessons/en-us/recipes/chicken-broccoli-and-rice-casserole/ingredients
There are 5 lessons/recipes in all: https://beginners.unclebens.com/cooking-lessons

October 15th has been set aside by the folks at Uncle Ben’s as “International Cook With Your Kid Day”. See: https://beginners.unclebens.com/cwykd

‘Loose Grains of Rice’ (related information):

As far as the question about “Homework Direct”, as featured in the Uncle Ben’s video, there is NOT a real service that I could find with that logo or tied to Mars. I did find several services with that name, however. The biggest one is from the United Kingdom. I didn’t find any connections, though.

October 15th, 2016:
Interestingly enough the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has deemed Oct. 15th as “Global Handwashing Day”. See: http://www.cdc.gov/features/globalhandwashing/

There’s even a public private partnership (P3) for Global Handwashing Day. See:
http://globalhandwashing.org/global-handwashing-day/

Finding ‘Ben’s Beginnings’ in your school district’s budget: I found the Mars/Uncle’s Ben’s Project in a FL public school 2013-14 budget. Pasco County, FL Warriors, take note!
Page 31 is what you see below:

Pascoben31

Pasco’s 2014-15 Budget included the Ben’s Beginnings again. Same General Fund (CCSS comes under that General Funding, too), same account number. Page 30, though.

Closing:

You won’t find “Ben’s Beginnings” exclusively in FL, just like CA is not the only State the Wrigley Foundation’s overreach in the classroom can be found either. Since Mars, Inc. is connected to Uncle Ben’s and Wrigley’s Foundation, it’ll continue its quest for global CCSS/STEM/CTE alignment. Who knew a pot of rice could contain so much agenda?

Shrill’s Call

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, what you see above is hardly new information for you. Yet, it is still worth displaying.

It is my belief that the CCSS Machine not only knows this, but is doing all it can to plot opportunities to be as shrill sounding as possible.

In the words of the the Center for Education Reform, CER, now is the time for a ‘clarion call’ in education reform. If you look up the meaning of ‘clarion’, you will find the first definition refers to shrillness. The second one refers to loud and clear. While the CER would LIKE to fool us into believing they are using the second version, it is my researched opinion (as well as other anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors) that they are using the first version without abandon.

clarion

CER and the BR:

Above, you see the CER, Center for Education Reform, but who/what is the BR? BR stands for Business Roundtable, one of the CCSS Machine BIGGEST organizations! If you do not know, BR has about 200 corporations which have (in the past) pledged their undying support for all things Common Core (which includes College/Career Readiness, Career Tech Education, etc.). Since the passage of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) mandates MORE P3s (public private partnerships), we can expect the SHRILLNESS of BR to be heard, as well as CER’s. Why the shrillness? Corporate greed; control; and, changing our nation.

In the past couple of days, Deb Herbage published a terrific expose related to corporate greed in education. See:
https://dezignzbydeb.wordpress.com/2016/06/20/evidence-based-research-based-data-sharing-big-datadata-data/

So, how did CER and BR meet recently? What did they decide was ‘clarion-worthy’ about education?! In a nutshell: ‘reform means achievement.’ How did I get that message? The President of the BR at the recent CER gathering! Below is the YouTube video where you can listen for yourselves:

Want more? Access the CER’s Manifesto for Education. See: https://www.edreform.com/2016/06/ed-reform-i-o-innovation-opportunity-results-a-manifesto/
Below is a screen shot from the Manifesto. Notice the ‘Innovation’ and ‘Opportunity’ words. Yes, Warriors, we have seen those before. They are part of the SHRILL call from WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014).

WIOA, is also embedded in the ESSA. After all, you can’t have businesses succeed and corporate greed without workforce based education! ESSA, WIOA, and the HEA (Higher Education Act) all have shrilly embedded this shift in education FROM academics TO competency workers.

CERmanifesto
When you read the entire Manifesto, notice all the different aspects of greed, control, and a reshaping of our nation..it is ALL there.

From Twitter, here is a screen shot of a few of the pro CCSS/ESSA and education reform messages. All involve businesses. Note the shouts out to charter schools, too.

CERBR

I hope some true educators will point out to the BR President (and all those education reformers), that teaching reading has been a problem in America long before now. Illiteracy is NOT a new problem, NOR can it be fixed with modern ELA materials and agenda items. However, I guess we cannot expect much from BR when they hone in on proficiency instead of mastery. When you teach a child to read CORRECTLY, proficiency follows mastery, NOT vice-versa.

CER, Backing Politics?

Warriors, you know 2016 is an election year. You know we will have all kinds of political races, including Governors of our States. However, did you know the CER (Center for Education Reform) has a campaign called ‘Education 50’? If you would like to see the Mission of the Education 50https://www.edreform.com/education-50/faq/

ed50Included in the Education 50 is a resource which is supposedly to steer you to REAL education minded reformers and combat posing education reformers. What do I mean?
According to the CER (and duly representing the CCSS Machine’s idea of reformers). https://www.edreform.com/2014/09/the-field-guide-to-education-reform/

Really, CER?! C’mon. A real measure of our Governors/education reformers, or any candidate running would be to look at the CBE (competency based education) shift. A real measure would be which candidate supports this shift or not. What do I mean? Look at the NGA (National Governors Association, which all 50 Governors belong to) and their stance on CBE. See: 1510ExpandingStudentSuccess

A real measure of a candidate who WILL give first voice to the citizens (parents, students, and taxpayers) is someone who has NOT publicly declared their love of Career Tech Education, Competency Based Education, Common Core, College and Career Ready Standards, Job Development Growth (which encompasses both WIOA and CTE), etc.!

Any candidate using the educratic buzzphrases of CCSS Machine type ed reform is a candidate we DO NOT need in our elections. Any candidate supporting business and jobs OVER education or in conjunction with education need not be elected either. What do I mean? The best example is the Resolution the NC State Board of Education wrote and delivered to the Governor of NC in support of all things CBE/CCSS related. See below:

(*Note: look at the list of key points the Resolution has. Find out what your State has done which is the same or similar. Compare it to the NGA’s checklist, too!)

As far as knowing the Governor of NC fully supports the shift in education from academics to workforce based, my first hand account of his appearance in 2014:

Closing:

If your State is anything like the one I live in, the State Board of Ed will have members from every grade group possible, from birth to post-secondary. What is their stance on REAL education? What resolutions have they passed which support the SHRILL voice of education reform for workforce based learning? Who among our leaders will lead the TRUE voices of those MOST valuable in all this?!

CC Diva: Back on the Blog!

Greetings for 2016 to all those dedicated, fearless, and, awesome anti CCSS (Common Core State Standards) Warriors!

It has been a couple of weeks since I last wrote a blog entry, but I’ve been anything but idle. January 2016 finds me gearing up for some exciting speaking engagements where I’ll be honored to share with others just how deeply committed to all things Common Core, our nation is. I know you’ve been kept updated by others while I was away about the over reaching evidence of the ‘fed led ed’ via the S1177 (Every Student Succeeds Act). You’ve been updated on even more evidence about just how snookered our legislators have been when it comes to ‘more state’s control in education’.

2016 will prove to be a big year for all of us as we know important elections will take place. From local school board elections, to the White House, we, the opposed to a strait-jacketed education, have MUCH to do!

fencemessage

As I shared with you in my last couple of 2015 posts, you can except to see me continue my mission of supplying you with information the PRO Common Core side wishes I didn’t have. You can bet I’ll be looking into MORE of the post-secondary push for a strait jacketed set of CCSS/CCR/CTE/GR (Common Core State Standards/College and Career Ready Standards/Career Technical Education Standards/ Global Ready Standards) standards that our 50 states have already invested heavily in and will continue to build a bridge to streamline pre-K to graduate schools and the job market! We’ve known for a while that CCSS (Common Core State Standards) is being recycled and repacked as not only some of the ‘alphabet soup’ acronyms you see above, but MORE! I’ll be sharing all I have on every stinking one of them, as I can.

While I was away, I also noticed lots of ire over the Exxon-Mobil statement about CCSS (Common Core State Standards). Anti CC Warriors, please remember, they are certainly not the only corporation to issue a pro-statement or make advertisements to support more state by state alignment. If you’ve not see the Business Rountable’s list of pro CCSS/CCR (Common Core State Standards/College and Career Ready) supporters, I urge you to do so. Visit their ‘issues’ page and review their activism toward ‘education and the workforce’. See: http://businessroundtable.org/issues/education-workforce

Don’t forget the re-authorization of the HEA (Higher Education Act) will more than likely be in the news very soon. As you’ve heard me state before, this is the LAST link in the chain of alignment for American education. This is the biggest threat to ALL educational choices, regardless of where pre-K through High School was spent. As you know, I’ve devoted several articles to exposing these truths time and time again.

While the dust is still settling over the S1177, know that the HELP committee (the U.S. Senate’s Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) and the Education and Workforce Committee (the U.S. House of Representative’s) are working overtime to continue what S1177 laid out for education. Many  of our legislators abandoned our anti CCSS stance with their votes to pass S1177, many will be poised to the same in higher education. Just watch their press releases.
Why higher education? It leads to jobs, jobs lead to money, and states need money for businesses.
Businesses have done a bang up job skewing the ‘skills gap’ fallacy and those in the CCSS Machine, short for Common Core State Standards Machine (as I can it), have fed this fallacy far too long. Why? Buried in the S1177 are passages where businesses will be MORE involved in education and what is taught. The goal in  education: simply this, the earlier the job skills training implanted in education, the more Suzy or Johnny will graduate whatever level of education totally prepared for the job market.

While the 9 federal levels are easy to spot, look at the variety of other agencies which are not easy to identify as connected.

Here’s another one that should be of interest from September 2015 and will give you a visual of the agenda being cemented for our nation:

It’s good to be back with you. It’s good to fight for what’s right. FOM Friday: ESEA Re-up Hype

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

In a special edition of my “Fib-o-Meter” Friday, anti CCSS article, I’m taking a look at who’s hyping FOR the reauthorization of HR5 and who’s uncovering the truth behind HR5.

HR5:

Short title: “Student Success Act”; the long title’s much to long to even bother with. Since I write from the perspective of OPPOSING Common Core and that most of my readers are also fighting to halt CCSS, I’m going to assume you’ve read up on the reasons WHY HR5 is not the Bill it’s pretending to be. However, in case you haven’t:

Supposedly it will give back to the states back local control of education  (“Total Fallacy”) The “Total Truth” is that the bill will continue to mandate what the states must do in education!

States currently receiving federal funding via ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) waivers will still be just as tied to federal overreach as we are now.

The law is being rewritten under our noses to force the CCSS agenda. That’s a “Total Truth” that needs to be shouted out! Remember, the “Total Truth” that CCSS violates the U.S. Constitution AND at least 3 federal U.S. laws YET Congress is crafting legislation that will continue this illegal activity!

Those Who Are Exposing the Lies of HR5 with “Total Truth”:

Gretchen Logue’s article revealing a list of the special interest groups supporting HR5 (includes the Gates Foundation):

There are many others who’ve also exposed the truth about HR5 (myself included), but due to the nature of this topic, I want you to see the OTHER side’s version (just in case you aren’t aware of the massive snow job the CCSS Machine is pumping out)

Those Hyping the HR5 aka “Total Fallacies”:

“Daily Caller’s” article calling Breitbart’s article misinformed (you’ll be able to access the Breitbart article from here as well):

From Senator Alexander via Fordham’s Twitter. Obviously Fordham had a front row seat at the hearing.

alexanderNow, there are many others spreading fallacies as those revealing the truth. As I didn’t highlight every single truth warrior, I’m not going to highlight every single fallacy maker. Why? Because our energy needs to be focused on acting on the truth. How do we do that? Hold your Congress members accountable! Remind them YOU are their boss, not the special interests, the CCSS Machine. Laws cannot and should not be written to support an illegal agenda!

Use this final paragraph as a tool.  “Open Secrets” has a published track on who lobbied in the 2013 version of HR5.  See: http://www.opensecrets.org/lobby/billlobs.php?id=hr5-113
Are the same organizations from the 2013 version of HR5 STILL supporting it today? If so, expose them. Chances are, as a studied warrior against CCSS, you know more than those voting on the legislation. Your voice matters! Our students matter! Our nation matters! This is NOT a time for silence. Don’t pass the warrior buck by saying “I’m too busy, but you’re doing such a great job, I’ll let you fight for me.”

Monday Musings: HR5 Rally Tonight!

From 6 pm and for as long as you can. Twitter Rally against HR5.. Tonight!
From 6 pm and for as long as you can. Twitter Rally against HR5.. Tonight!

It’s a great day to be preparing for the Twitter Rally tonight to take down the CCSS laden HR5 Bill. Yesterday I shared with you, from my extensive research what points to make AGAINST the “Student Success Act”. Today, however, I’m sharing with you what those who support the toxic bill have to say.

Support from Washington:

No surprise the Ed/Workforce folks want HR5 to succeed. Common Core via Career Tech Ed will become even stronger if the “Student Success Act” lives on.

Want a 'handy dandy' infograph as to WHY HR5 is good? http://edworkforce.house.gov/studentsuccessact/
Want a ‘handy dandy’ infograph as to WHY HR5 is good? http://edworkforce.house.gov/studentsuccessact/

From “Open Congress”, The Organizations Supporting HR5:

“Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Tax Reform, Agudath Israel of America, Concerned Women for America, ASSA: the School Superintendents Association, National Center for Technological Literacy, National Catholic Educational Association, National Association of Independent Schools, Association of Christian Schools International, Council of Chief State School Officers, Knowledge Alliance, and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops”  If you’d like to see the many (and there are quite a few) organizations OPPOSED to HR5, visit: https://www.opencongress.org/bill/hr5-113/bill_positions

It is very interesting to see some of the biggest CCSS supportive groups on this list. For example, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is listed as ‘opposed’. Another interesting note is that Business Roundtable is listed as ‘opposed’, yet, their website shows they are clearly in support of HR5. Here’s an excerpt, “Business Roundtable CEOs are very supportive of your efforts to reauthorize ESEA.  We have advocated for reauthorization for several years now and are committed to working with you and the rest of Congress to ensure this legislation becomes law as soon as possible.” To read the rest (which I suggest as preparation for tonight), see: http://businessroundtable.org/resources/business-roundtable-letter-hr-5-student-success-act

A Little Fly Told Me:

Those of us fighting CCSS, know that the Fordham Institute can’t be trusted with its stance. It claims to be ‘conservative’, however, Michael Petrelli and crew have been caught on more than one occasion how they have mastered doublespeak. Their position on HR5? You really need to read their ‘GadFly’ blog article, http://edexcellence.net/articles/the-conservative-case-for-hr-5 Suffice it to say, they’re helping spread the misguided message of how local control will be given back to the states.

From the Catholic Bishops:

Knowing how many of my followers who are Catholic have shared with me how much they know their schools shouldn’t have CCSS, but yet do. So, to see the U.S. Bishops supporting HR5 was a surprise to me. Again, the misguided message of how local control, independence is given. See their supportive statement, http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/how-we-teach/catholic-education/public-policy/

Closing:

I think we can see where our strategy can be put to the best use tonight: exposing HOW local control is not the overall message of HR5. It’s overall message has nothing to do with your student’s ‘success’. It has everything to do with an agenda’s success.

WYBI Wednesday: ICE, Chilling Our Education

Typically ice cubes make our drinks more enjoyable. However, when ICE hits education, it's anything but enjoyable.
Typically ice cubes make our drinks more enjoyable. However, when ICE hits education, it’s anything but enjoyable.

In yesterday’s post, I revealed quite a bit about an international credentialing company tied to Common Core. Today’s “Would You Believe It” Wednesday post, looks at the American based companies. Will they, too, be tied to Common Core?

ICE (aka: Institute for Credentialing Excellence):

Here’s how they describe themselves, “The Institute for Credentialing Excellence, or ICE, is a professional membership association that provides education, networking, and other resources for organizations and individuals who work in and serve the credentialing industry.  ICE is a leading developer of standards for both certification and certificate programs and it is both a provider of and a clearing house for information on trends in certification, test development and delivery, assessment-based certificate programs, and other information relevant to the credentialing community.” {note: website address is http://www.credentialingexcellence.org/p/cm/ld/fid=32)
Below is a screen shot from the latest Annual Report showing the USA and where ICE members are located.

Who Is Shaping the Credentials? Again, using the 2013-14 Annual Report, you can find there are members from the Alpine Institute, Pearson VUE (gee, what a surprise), Cisco Systems(data mining), and a Psychometrician (Careers in Psychology have this description for what psychometrics are),

“Psychometrics is the science of measuring people’s mental capacities and thought processes through a systemized manner. In other words, it’s a way to create tests to determine how smart we are or what are personalities are like. Psychometricians are the scientists behind those interesting – and sometimes nerve wracking – aptitude and personality tests. The tests that these professionals create help to better understand how the mind works. They are able to measure the how a mind functions and how it compares to other groups of people.” The Report: 2013-14 ICE Annual Report v3 Final

ICE’s “Other” Arm:
NCCA (National Commission on Certifying Agencies)
This particular part of ICE was created to ensure all of the citizens in America were actually safe while we used the many services ICE accredited. For example, if I wanted to work in aviation, ICE would accredit the National Aviation Business Association and NCCA would keep them accountable so I’d be able to earn my credentials to get a job. (You’ll need to look at the many healthcare agencies they oversee, especially knowing CC aligned courses are being taught). What I found interesting about this arm of ICE, is their “Career Center” page. If you want, you can become employed by AIR, Inc. (America Institutes for  Research, Inc.; as in Common Core related assessment measuring AIR, Inc.) as a psychometrician!! See the actual job posting, http://careers.credentialingexcellence.org/jobseeker/job/21233199/
{Note: heading up the NCCA? A member from the Alpine Testing Solutions, Inc.}

Alpine Testing:

I must confess, I mistook this company for another one by a similar name and was about to pass it over, when a search turned up a post by the President of Alpine Testing Solutions (according to their own website, the name “Alpine Media Corporation” was used from 1998-2005). The president then was Arana Greenburg. Her paper, “WBT: The New Millennium: Training at the Speed of Change”. {note: WBT stands for ‘web based training’} (see: http://www.isoc.org/inet99/proceedings/2a/2a_1.htm ) You’ll want this paper. Why? It details the purposed transition of not only assessments (which now lead to credentials), but how computer testing was in need of becoming ‘COOL’ (Collaborative, Objective Based, On-line, Lifelong Learning Oriented). She goes on to cite B.F. Skinner’s work, how students will go from one knowledge based to ‘just enough’. She details shifts in how learning parameters have shifted, how assessments were to become the core of education and oh, so much more that we now have been able to connect to CC. What else you might find interesting is that the author graduated with a social policy doctorate. You’ll need to see who she used to work for.
One more note about Alpine Testing, they are affiliated with NRMERA (Northern Rocky Mountain Education Research Association). How does NRMERA feel about Common Core, Career/College Readiness?? They embrace it! See this presentation from 2012 titled “Success for All” : http://www.nciea.org/publication_PDFs/NRMERASuccessForAll_BG100412

Take a look at the ICE 2014 Conference Book, there you’ll find Pearson VUE presented several workshops on various topics surrounding credentials that span the globe; you’ll see Cisco Systems also among those who presented. ACT, Inc. (which is also a partner of the International group I shared with you in yesterday’s post about international credentials being tied to CCS) also was at the conference. See the resource, http://issuu.com/credentialingexcellence/docs/2014_ice_exchange_final_program

If you’d like to see who is funding all the research for ICE, http://www.credentialingexcellence.org/p/cm/ld/fid=181

The Gates Foundation, the U.S. Dept. of Ed and the Rest of the Credential Bunch:

After a bit of digging I found the pdf file for the 2009 Round table discussion that was to help both the Gates Foundation’s and the U.S. government’s initiatives concerning post-secondary education get moving toward globalization via credentials, degrees, and whatever else in between you could master. Here’s an excerpt, “The intent of the round table is to identify and define the nature of the array of post-secondary subbaccalaureate credentials (e.g., certificates, certifications, licenses), ascertain the nature of the institutions involved in granting and overseeing such credentials, and discuss the implications for public policy.” Download the document, Subbac-Roundtable-Mtg-Notes_110309

The Business Roundtable’s Efforts for Credentials and Your Students:

Extremely pro Common Core/STEM supportive group “Business Roundtable” released last July (2014) what they are doing to ensure CC credentialed education. Here’s a tiny portion of what’s happening, ”

“Defining clearly the attributes of quality, valid industry credentials, making it easier for students, learning centers and employers to know which credentials and certifications matter.”

Want the entire ‘game plan’? See, http://businessroundtable.org/resources/taking-action-connect-learning-work Oh, if you’d like to see HOW the Business Roundtable plans to help the workforce become as aligned to CC as possible, be sure to read their “Action Step List”, where the number one priority is to  “Fully adopt and implement the Common Core State Standards” (Action List: http://businessroundtable.org/resources/taking-action-on-education-workforce-preparedness)

If you’d like to see more of the BRT’s CC supportive materials, search their website, trust me, you’ll find plenty.

One Last Resource:

Back in 2002, a dissertation by Kathy Emery, titled “The Business Roundtable and Systemic Reform: How Corporate-Engineered High-Stakes Testing Has Eliminated Community Participation in Developing Educational Goals and Policies”. Quite detailed, super ammo for the anti CCSS warrior. (Emery_Dissertation_all

Closing:

So, while the past two days have given you plenty of ties that bind our students to credentials bought and paid for with funds from CCSS, I hope you’ll be able to use the resources, information provided to wage war on the Core, thereby melting any tainted ICE you find.
