Is There Anything Else?

Years ago, I remember hearing Robin Williams rattle off a routine about the future of his (then very young) children. In a mere matter of seconds he vacillated between their college graduation, great success, OR as a worker at the burger joint down the street, saying “You want fries with that?”.

As we know, all parents have big hopes and dreams that regardless of WHERE our children become a success, as long as it is THEIR success. Success SHOULD NOT mean it’s only applicable when you graduate college and get the big fancy house with the fat paycheck. Successful people throughout history have often been dirt poor or middle income.

The CCSS Machine is stopping at NOTHING to ensure our children have almost NO success whatsoever…except what the Machine is willing to dole out to them.
After this past week’s digging into the agenda moves behind the “I Just Sued the School System” and “The Thinning” (believe me, I am not done with either yet, but more on that in a day or so.), I have about had my fill of the depths of deception the CCSS Machine is going to make ‘blastedly’ sure NO child (regardless of age) will succeed at his or her own pace.

Meet the Young Math Corps:

Before we proceed, I am stating for the record, my ‘axe to grind’ is not with Civil Rights. As always, it is the CCSS Machine. What I want to know, as do you, how involved is the CCSS Machine in a program like this?

We all know tutors are great! Many successful people have had tutors in their lives. However, with the age of this program, the amount of time our educational system has been reduced to what we have today, I wonder how much MORE damage to ALL involved when ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) is fully and finally locked in.

Bits And Pieces Of  The MLWs Program:

So, how does the Math Literacy Program work? What math curriculum is used? Is this nation-wide? I will answer each, but not in order.

The curriculum is John Dewey and Lawrence Cremin based. I found this in the 2001 publication “Mathematics, Numeracy,  and Democracy: The Case for Quantitative Literacy”
I am pausing here because if I don’t say it, I will burst…America is NOT a democracy! UGH!! Moving on now, this paper was prepared by the National Council on Education and the Disciplines (NCED). NCED is a part of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. What you see below is from the opening pages of the over 140 page document.

Since the Woodrow Wilson Foundation is dedicating itself to K-16 education, you know not only will ESSA be a factor in what they have influence with, but the HEA (Higher Education Act) and the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) will also be included. You’ll also be interested in seeing the curriculum for MLW are NCs (Neighborhood Circles). The NCs are a product of the Lawrence CommunityWorks. The linked document MLW has is from 2007. Almost immediately, you will see that the best start to globalization begins in your neighborhood. You REALLY need to see/read this dated, but still used, plan. 0155_neighborcircles (*Note: back in 2010, Lawrence,MA did receive a Promise Neighborhood grant. You’ll also need to see how the NSF (National Science Foundation) is involved in the MLW curriculum. I especially despise the NSF for their access to huge government funds as well as their use of those funds to churn out as much CCSS/STEM rhetoric as humanly possible. If you are not sure how toxic the NSF involvement in education is, please, search for them among my archives. What they do and have access to is truly worth knowing. The last question, which we’ve not answered yet is, is all this national? Yes.
The Young People’s Project (YPP) is an outgrowth of the Algebra Project, “a national mathematics literacy effort aimed at helping low income students and students of color successfully acquire mathematical skills that are a prerequisite for a college preparatory mathematics sequence in high school and full citizenship in today’s technological society.”

Credentialed Transcripts?

The modern education transformation is treating our students like blocks of ‘stackable credentials’, not humans!

‘Tech Thursday’ is the day I usually focus on the overreach in education to the post-secondary level. Today is no exception. If you have followed me for a while, you know I have consistently laid out the evidence and resources so you can follow the CCSS Machine’s march from high school and beyond.

So what can I share with you today?  A look inside the transcripts-turned-credentials for our students under the guise of quality education.

 

Parchment Transcript Services (PTS):

I first heard of PTS, from a dedicated anti CCSS Warrior who is doing much work to protect student data. We know how much is collected, shared, sold, and used against our students, so naturally finding a school (or State) which uses PTS is worth knowing more about.

Did you notice how hidden in plain sight the data mining is? Did you see who shares it, has access to it? Did you notice the use of the fallacy tactic known as ‘Bandwagon’? (bandwagon is where you are enticing to do what everyone else is doing so you don’t miss out) Something tells me there is much more to find out about!

How the Service Works on a Local Level:

From the parent of a Senior (Class of 2016), this personal account. “Seniors are required to state what college or university they will attend. All final transcripts will be sent electronically through Parchment. You must sign up via their website before graduation. After graduation, you will be charged $8.50 per transcript. My student must contact their Career Center Counselor/Office for more information.” This parent goes on to share that the Parchment presence in school is a school district promoted decision. Supposedly the only data collected isn’t too personal, but we Warriors know ANY data about our students is up for grabs! Parchment’s service also has you answer on-line questions for specific schools you might want to attend to see IF you can become a qualified applicant.

What I found out about the transcripts is that each is given a unique code (DID or Document Identity Number). For students to access or verify if their information has been transmitted or received, they must use that DID. Hmm.. think UID (Unique Identifier Number) currently used for all those assessments your students think. We have evidence how ‘secure’ those are! Parchment’s latest Press Release shares more about the data collection/sharing. This particular Release details the State of Georgia’s partnership:
Parchment, a leading academic credential management service, works with more than 65 high schools and 72 college admissions offices across Georgia to create a robust network that helps to simplify the college application process for Georgia learners. By delivering and processing electronic credentials with Parchment, member schools are breaking down barriers in the college access process. For more than a decade, Parchment has worked with high schools and colleges across the United States to aid in the application process, making academic credentials, like high school transcripts, digital, often resulting in more timely admissions decisions. Schools in Georgia have already begun to improve efficiencies, provide transparency to learners and reduce overall costs by partnering with Parchment, following the success many other states have long used to their advantage. In 2015, Georgia high schools relied on Parchment to exchange more than 41,000 digital credentials, an increase of 48 percent over the previous year. Parchment has enabled our students and parents to expedite the college application process by sending transcripts electronically to almost any school across the nation,” said Tessa Barbazon, Coordinator, Office of School Counseling with Fulton County School District. “In addition, the tracking tools available to students through Parchment fill a gap in communication that can exist when less advanced services are utilized.” The Fulton County School District is comprised of 18 high schools with 94,000 students.” (see the entire Press Release: http://www.parchment.com/press-releases/parchment-provides-georgia-students-with-improved-college-access/)

While all looks secure, there are a few things to note: 
1) Parchment sends you information they think you want based on how you answered those qualifying questions.
2) Data is shared with ANY partner or group designated as an Academic Institution. While this may look like it means schools, remember the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) and the current version of the HEA (Higher Education Act) include the academic institutions in a much broader context. (*Note: the current HEA even embeds the use of Digital Promise as the  data collection method on all students. Also, the ESSA has Digital Promise funding INCREASED embedded in the language.)
3) Note the Asset Transfer clause. Even your parents information about finances is up for all to see (or at least whomever Parchment deems worthy of knowing.)

 

 Closing:

I thank the parent who shared their story. Our anti CCSS War Against the Core, is made so much stronger when these brave men and women speak up. I hope this information has caused you to question much when it comes to the transformed high school to post-secondary school state we find ourselves in. While we must champion our students data (and ours as well). we must investigate every company we can. Since it appears the school districts are promoting and choosing this, make sure you let your district know your concerns!

Warriors Against the Common Core State Standards Initiative: You’ve heard of all the on-line aligned courses and schools out there full of all the CCSS/CTE/CCR you can stand. Among them are Blackboard and Ascend Learning. You may know about Blackboard‘s alignment to the CCSS Machine and agenda, but do you know about Ascend’s? Did you know they are the ‘children’ of the Providence Equity Partners, LLC??

The Parent Company:

From Providence Equity Partners, LLC‘s “About Us” webpage, this group is not just about education. In fact, education isn’t even their main business venture! Their goal for all the industries they are investing in is simply industry experts building companies that are not only exceptional, but endure as well. Here in lies the rub: business, as I’ve said before (and have many other Anti CCSS Warriors) has NO PLACE  in turning education into business!! As we’ve seen before, this type of interaction between education and business doesn’t run education  properly, IT RUINS IT! Especially when you factor in the CCSS (Common Core State Standards), the CTE (Career Tech Education), the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the STEaM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts,and Math), and CCR (College and Career Readiness), or any other acronym the CCSS Machine throws is.

Ascend Learning, One of the “kids”:

Ascend Learning is the main company for several health care based careers. To see each of the other companies Ascend Learning holds, visit: http://www.ascendlearning.com/companies/  Once there, you’ll notice nursing, assessments, and much more. The proof of alignment to CTE (Career Technical Education) can be found in a press release from 2014. Here’s an excerpt, “Ascend Learning, a leading provider of technology-based education solutions for healthcare and other vocational industries, today announced that Scott Hess has joined the company as vice president of Community Partnerships in the Career and Technical Education group. Hess will be responsible for helping state departments of education and school districts design, implement and assess career and technical education programs that ensure students are career- and college-ready. Another interesting ‘tidbit’ of information about Ascend Learning is directly from their website. Included will be the CCSS alignment proof, the Next Generation (state by state) Assessments, the Career Readiness proof, and the Career Technical Education proof. Vector Learning holds 2 other companies and is devoted to the construction and engineering career fields. Leading Vector is a board full of folks who are either tied to Ascend Learning or Harvard University (they partnered with Pearson Publishing to begin the “Pathways to Prosperity” movement that’s slam full of CCSS/CTE/CCR and Workforce agenda). There’s even one board member who sat on Microsoft’s Partner Advisory Council!

EDMC (Education Management Corporation) belonging to PEP is extremely interesting. Especially when you consider their purchasing partner (Goldman Sachs)! In a March (2006) press release, it stated that EDMC “is among the largest providers of private post-secondary education in North America, based on student enrollment and revenue. EDMC has 72 primary campus locations in 24 states and two Canadian provinces. EDMC’s education institutions offer a broad range of academic programs concentrated in the media arts, design, fashion, culinary arts, behavioral sciences, health sciences, education, information technology, legal studies and business fields, culminating in the award of associate’s through doctoral degrees. As for the others, I think you can see that each one is somehow tied to the CCSS Machine in some way. No matter if it’s “Common Core”, the workforce, or career tech education, on-line learning, or data mining.. Providence Equity Partners has an investment in it. I’ll be diving into the others I didn’t cover here, sometime in the future.

Weekend News: Update to the CCSS Following Trail

Anti CCSS Warriors, my last article was chock full of  evidence about the massive amounts of data collection and a lifetime of our students being followed by the Common Core Standards/Career Tech Education overhaul. In response to that article, I had many readers alert me to OTHER similar programs. One such was the TQM (Total Quality Management) System. It appears that well before the “Common Follow Up” type privacy invader, the TQM was doing the same thing. I’ve been told there’s a person who is an expert in TQM. It is my goal to not only be in touch with the person, but to connect the dots they share with the ones already exposed by our long time education warriors, Charlotte Iserbyt and Anita Hoge.

Today, however, I’d like to share with you what I’ve been able to find out on my own.

The “Best Practice”:

So far, what I’ve found is the entire premise FOR the levels of data mining is based upon a Japanese model of business practices from back in the 1960s.

Before we precede to that theory, let me take a few minutes to remind you, that in education, “Best Practices” approaches are NOT educational in nature. “Best Practices” is a business term–all the way. It’s one of the ‘buzzwords’ the P3 (Public-Private Partnerships) portion of the CCSS Machine has incorporated into education. Proof?
“The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).”  As we’ve seen in several articles from several different sources in our War Against the Core, we’ve heard just HOW these ‘best practices’ over assess not only students, but our teachers as well. Here’s a brief video of just one of the CCSS Machine ‘best practices’ in the name of ‘quality’.

The Theory:

That theory from the 60s used in Japan? It was called “Theory Z”.  A quick read on Theory Z (and Theories X and Y) can be found at:

Again, note that the website I am pointing you to is a BUSINESS one, not an EDUCATIONAL one! However, when we consider just how in bed business and labor are with education, it does makes sense WHY the CCSS/CTE agenda is to data mine our students (remember, by using BOTH the CCSS (which ensnares students from K-12) and the CTE (which ensnares students beyond 12th grade), no one who attends schools where these are taught will be safe!)

The Data Mining Track:

While most of us have learned about how invasive the data mining track is, some of us are learning just HOW long it’s been going on and how it’s part and parcel of each of the United States (and all its territories or jurisdictions).  No matter if it was TQM, Theory Z, or is Common Core Follow Up: our students are being data mined in the name of the ‘workforce’! An example of how TQM and CTE are being used in our post-secondary educational institutions can be seen below. This is from a community college in CA. However, I found more of these from Michigan, Mississippi (where their “Common Follow Up System is called “Lifetracker”), and Iowa. Iowa’s evidence will follow the screen shot, as it’s very important you have this information.
