Ed’s Money Pit Effect

Dear Anti Fed Ed Warriors, we’ve heard SO many times that we, as a nation, aren’t investing enough in education. It’s used as a wedge to get most citizens activated and involved. Those of us fighting the global-to-federal-to-state-to-local-to-you overreach, know the investment hype is just that..hype.

If investing in education were the fix, we would have solved the ‘dumbing down’ of America long ago.

Throwing money at education hasn’t worked in years. We might as well jump in from the fire to the frying pan. We’d certainly see faster results!

Since, ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), though, ‘investing’ isn’t simply about money anymore. It’s P3s (public private partnerships), it’s ‘in-kind’ donations and contributions (meaning, if you can’t give cash, give ‘stuff’) from anyone or any group approved by your SEAs or LEAs (State Education Agencies or Local Education Agencies).
The shifts in ESSA’s funding, also are worth noting here. For example, the shift from per-pupil to whole school funds.
That, my fellow Warriors, was to increase the amount of money States received. (*Note: It’s also the way to include all students in labeling them ‘at risk’ or ‘in need of intervention’.)

Before long, it wouldn’t surprise me to see either what I call the “PBS Beg-a-thons” (aka: pledge drives) or out and out auctions right outside the school buildings! Why? Because money solves everything!

Now, Warriors, don’t get me wrong, I know running a school costs money. However, when did Congress, the United Nations and all its partners, and our State leaders decide it was either money or technology devices which would be the saving graces to American education?!

HELLO!!! NEITHER money OR technology devices will save America’s education demise! So, why is there more push than ever to ramp up the money as we ramp down the quality?

I can almost hear some citizen read this and ask me, “Why talk about this now? We’re almost in the most festive time of the year, as Americans.. I don’t wanna talk about it, I’ll deal with it next year….” My response? “We need to talk now. Congress passed the FY 2019 Appropriations Bills which mean MORE money and ‘stuff’ will be thrown at education and hope it works. Then, we’ve just had elections, which means the new leaders will be taking office at the first of the year. We MUST be pro-active, not reactive!”

Warriors, believe me, the CCSS Machine is already talking about next year (and the years after) as far as money and ‘stuff’ to throw at education. Frankly, we need to catch up in the conversation. Quite simply, we need to change the narrative, not accept it!!

Where The Global Shift In Money Is Coming From:

Warriors, we already know the biggest source is the United Nations, the World Bank, IMF, Goldman Sachs, The Gates Foundation, the Middle East, the U.S. federal government,  and several other well documented groups which all belong to the CCSS Machine.  However, there are others driving the ‘money and stuff’ push on American taxpayers. We also know the global education push from groups like P21 (Partnership for 21st Century Skills) have also been well documented. Let’s look, at some lesser known groups, though.

, did you notice the huge amount of money? According to their website, the $39 billion isn’t enough, they want MORE!
Did you notice the attitude is that not only can global/federal government GET the taxpayer funds to pull this off…they can manage co-ordination of its use, too! Are you kidding me?? How well has managing the States turned out?! For the globalists and federal leadership: SUPER! For the States and American citizens? MICROMANAGED to the smallest degree.

A few notes about the Campaign for Global Education-U.S.
a) When you access the embedded link above, look to your right for the ‘quick actions’ of our Congress. To see the Coalition Member Groups, go to the ‘About’ tab and select.
b) There, you’ll see UNICEF, the NEA, AFT, and several other key CCSS Machine member organizations.
c) Embedded in the “Education for All” Act is a link to the “Right To Education Index”. Read the introduction to the information, and you’ll see data collection. The U.S., as a member, data mines and shares your student’s information to reports like this.
d) Of course, the Campaign receives donations..what ‘card carrying’ CCSS Machine member group wouldn’t.

Other Global Overreaches in America:

Each of these will need our money or ‘stuff’ at some point. If it’s not our money or ‘in-kind’ contribution, it’ll be big business, big pharma, big _________ (fill in the blank). Thanks to ESSA, the community mom and pop businesses, the State services will be roped in as well.

2) World Top 20 Project (website) For every person, world-wide ages 3 to 25. According to their Global Education Report 2017, those polled on the best education systems ranked more government funding as the second most important item. What group is behind World Top 20 Project? FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) FIFA’s social responsibility is carried out in education for every child on the planet. Warriors, not only will FIFA invest billions in education, but advocates that governments up the ante!

3) Center for Global Development
stated in 2016 that not only do we need globalized standard driven tests because they’re more fair to those being tested as well as international testing is cheaper. Warriors, do you see the problems with this for Americans? I do.

4) Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), here’s their excerpt: “AIEA brings together international education leaders into dialogue with each other, their counterparts around the world, organizations that promote international education, and organizations concerned with the shaping and management of international higher education. AIEA gives members opportunities to join forces, share institutional strategies, and provide an effective voice on matters of public policy.”

7) Global Partnership in Education’s got 8 charts to plead the case for more global education. Chart #4 is where the plea for ‘we need more money’ can be found.

From the GPE, this excerpt: “Education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth and increases income. It increases a person’s chances of having a healthy life, reduces maternal deaths, and combats diseases such as HIV and AIDS. Education can promote gender equality, reduce child marriage, and promote peace. In sum, education is one of the most important investments a country can make in its people and its future.”

8)  State and District Network on International Education in the Schools (this Network is the results of a partnership between the Longview Foundation and the Asia Society). Their stance is that global education is required for graduation. See the rubric here (in a DOC file)

9) The United States Government (USAID) Education Strategy? Expansion of government and more money to invest in what is taught. As found on page 8 of the 98 page Strategy Plan, “Financial resources are critical to effective education systems”. That cost or ‘investment’? In the trillions, Warriors! The sources of all those trillions of dollars? Taxpayers, private corporations, and philanthropists. (Gee, I wonder which of the CCSS Machine billionaires is going ‘first’?)

From The States:

Then, there are global overreaches in every State in America!
For example, look at CT’s global education guidelines for all K-12th programs.
We saw WV, above. However, all 50 States will have some globalism in place and it will only keep expanding. How? Look at where I live, North Carolina.

The State Board of Education decides to embed globalism in education and the Department of Public Instruction carries it out. How?
Not only working with different countries, but tying education to the State level Dept. of Commerce (which will also tie education to the State level Dept. of Labor). NC’s documents also show that as of 2015-16, the use of non government partners to influence school boards was to be put into action.

In fact, one of the documents I found shows how 16 NC Counties and 2 VA Counties were used as pilot districts to help create the Global School Network! (*Note: in the document, you’ll notice the Global School Network was coordinated around 2012 by a group known as VIF, Visiting International Facility. VIF, used to train teachers (known as VIF Global Gateway Program), but shifted to focus on K-12 global education. As of 2017, VIF was re-named Participate. Today, Participate is ‘igniting change and creating impact on a global scale’. How is Participate accomplishing this? Leading edge technology in school districts!

Closing:

Warriors, the investments in education, be they money or in-kind, aren’t worth it. Not the way things are going. Taxation without representation might be theft, but overzealous philanthropists and private corporations CAN be put in their proper places..out of the classrooms! Question is, will we be that bold? Then, there’s the government..we are ITS master, not the other way around. It’s time to put DC on notice for 2019. We must, it’s our citizen’s duty as well as our patriotic responsibility.

US Ed’s Global Shakedown

Anti Fed Ed Warriors,

Recently I’ve shown you several globally overreaching agenda items which are showing up in our US Congress. As you know, I’ve asked “WHY?”. Why are our US taxpayer dollars going to fund programs and set laws which are NOT American made, nor citizen driven? Especially when it comes to education.

Warriors, as you can see by this vintage political cartoon, having American citizens pay for D.C.’s ‘extravagance’ is an age old issue. Now, why would I choose to insert ‘extravagance’?

After all, education is NOT a luxury..it’s a privilege. I chose the ‘e’ word to make a point. American citizens are supposed to be the ones who influence Congress to create legislation, not lobbyists, corporations, or, global groups.

Yet, we’ve seen in the War Vs the Core just how easily We, the People, are dismissed. Congress is being extravagant with its power.

Wait Lynne, you said education is a privilege. Isn’t it actually a ‘right’? That depends Warriors. Are you thinking American or globally?

Global rhetoric has preached for years that education is a right and therefore MUST be given. The only problem with this logic is what is mandated (or in this case a ‘must’) is also controlled.

In the case of the CCSS Machine’s domain over globally based education, look at HOW controlled America’s education has become. It’s also become even MORE controlled by global forces. Yet, We the People will be expected to pick up the global-to-fed-led bill every time.

The classic thought concerning education in America (as elsewhere) was that by having education treated as a privilege, everyone involved got way more bang for their taxpayer dollar.

Think about it, teachers wanted to teach because they were encouraged, not forcibly controlled. Students were inspired to learn because they knew going to school was a step in the right direction, not a step to some assessment mandated job.

The CCSS Machine has murdered any joy, privilege, or enjoyment associated with education. Both for teachers AND students.

The ‘un-intended’ victims? The families and taxpayers.
Our compliance is not a choice, it, too, is a controlled mandate.
We have no say in the fact we do NOT wish to see our taxpayer dollars fund globally based Congressional bills.

 How committed to globalism is your State? Where I live (NC), is 100% committed. I’ve shared this with you many times* before here on my blog. The most recent commitments from the SBE (State Board of Education, where all political parties are involved), and the NC DPI (Dept. of Public Instruction). While we assume this only involves public schools of all kinds, this globalization in education reaches into private education, as well as homeschooling. How? Dual enrollment, AP courses, assessments, on-line or hybrid classes, extra curricular activities, and more.

My State In The W_ _ _ d

Hello, Anti Fed Ed, Anti CCSS, and Anti Global Ed Warriors! If you noticed, I’ve added a ‘new’ type of Warrior to the list.

Since I began researching the shift in education (2009), I knew from one of Tom DeWeese’s articles that the end game for education in America was globally tied.

It was, in fact, this particular article and another one (by Cathy Duffy) about the push in America for national standards, which bothered me enough to begin researching!

As you know, since then, I’ve found plenty of evidence to support BOTH of these well respected citizens’ findings.  Since I began blogging (2014), the flood gates to support even more evidence to the global/national standards has come my way. I’ve done my best to share all that I can with you, so that, all of us are as informed as we can be in our War Vs. the Core.

You might be wondering about the title of this particular article. It’s short for “My State in the World”.

Warriors,  here are some documents I’ve found which point directly to the facts that education in your State hasn’t been American for some time now. Between our Governors and Public Depts of Education/Instruction, the UN/UNESCO shift has been in place since the mid 1980s! What follows is an in-depth, information packed article.

Take your time in reading and researching what’s in your State. It’s imperative!

The Files in Timeline Form:

(1985): So far, this is the oldest evidence I have found. It’s from MN.
The Report is one created by a global education task force that had been set up to prepare the way for a K-12th grade “Global Education Decade”  beginning in the 1999-2000 academic year. By starting this gigantic ball rolling in 1985, all the framwork would be in place by 1990. It is in this Report titled “Minnesota in the World”, that you’ll see the ’21st Century needs’ rhetoric popping up.

Let me be clear, you will NOT see the UN/UNESCO mentioned in this Report. However, the imprint is there. Who you will see as an influential force behind the shift for MN, is the (then) Dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota (Harlan Cleveland). Cleveland wrote a book called “The Knowledge Executive”.

How was Cleveland tied to the UN? Google Books includes his biography. He led post WWII rebuilding efforts for the UN. Google’s bio also reveals Cleveland was a top leader in the Marshall Plan; that he was appointed by President Kennedy as an Assistant Secretary of State to the UN.

President Einsenhower tagged Cleveland as a NATO official. You will also see his ties to the Aspen Institute and more. (*Note: if you’d like to see how the modern day Aspen Institute and others are directing the States to the UN/global shift via ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), find it here.)

Not only will Cleveland be one to note in the MN Report, but also,  former U.S. Dept. of Education Secretary, T. H. Bell. Look below for his proclamation.

bell Mr. Bell was appointed by President Reagan as the Sec. of Education. He is the same Bell who headed up the Committee which produced the 1983 “Nation At Risk” report.
Bell also was the National Commission of Education (housed then in the U.S. Dept. of Interior) before the creation of the U.S. Dept. of Education.

We can ‘thank’ the 1983 version of “Nation At Risk” for the national assessments increase as well as the use of the word ‘accountability’ as a call for more federal dollars to flow into our States. Thanks to ESSA, the ‘accountability’ means more control from the U.S. Dept. of Education, NOT less.

(Entering the 1990s):
From the UNESCO on-line library,  you’ll find documents dating back to the mid 1990s for the shift in technical/vocational education, which has been rebranded as “CTE” or ‘Career Tech Education’ here in the United States. I found the document where ‘lifelong learning’ is described as a bridge to the future. It’s from 1999.  Look below for a modern rendition of such a ‘bridge’:

Warriors, this particular Report (as seen above) was published in 2007. But look at the original year OECD released ‘lifelong learning’..1996. As far as I have been able to find, no on-line version of the 1996 original book is available. You can access it via several university libraries, however. Here’s a description as to why it is vital we find it.

(1999):  NC’s educational shift to globalization appears to have taken place around this time.

A Western Michigan University look at ‘lifelong learning’ by Professor Emeritus Bosco.

In the modern educational reform you’ll find Professor Bosco is an investigator for the CoSN (Consortium of School Networking), as well. CoSN is a big part of the CCSS Machine. I wrote about their part in “The Redefining Ready” Initiative in 2016.

(2009):
This NY based resource was originally begun in 2006 and updated to this form in 2009.
What’s interesting in this resource, is that it  pointed out that the US federal level of education looked first to New York and Massachussettes for educational policies. There are several other very interesting pieces of evidence in this resource as well. For example, each President’s involvement in education is included from 1945-2009.

Observations from this resource:
What were the educational policies from NY and MA back in the 60s?  I have no clue as to why those policies were worthy enough to become nationally known or used. I do question how much of those policies helped shape the 1965 ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act). I do question why our federal government would choose the 2 States where we can find today, some of the biggest CCSS Machine member organizations/supporters.

I was able find that NY amended its educational law to reflect 21st Century learning and global education back in 1999. (*Note: scroll down to the text portion of the page.)

What about MA? I found a thesis where the history of MA’s shift to global education is laid out. The State specific information begins on page 48. You’ll find UNESCO’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), The Asia Society (the State of NC is knee-deep in a relationship with them), and so much more. However, look below at what the author found are the ‘must-haves’ for global education to survive:

Warriors, have you seen these 5 elements where you live? If your State is seeing a shift in Teacher training for global education, start on page 36. It’s all laid out.

(2013): NC’s Global Education Task Force Report reveals STEM is one of the biggest tools to shift education, not for academics, but for economic purposes.

(2014):  Harvard University (the very same pro CCSS/CTE, Pearson Publishing partnership which created Pathways to Prosperity and thus helped create Career Pathways for education), pumped out this Report on global education.

Interestingly enough, some of the ‘expert solutions’ for aligning education? Increase apprenticeships, create more charter schools, and, cause a unity between government, education, and, teachers.

Closing:

Warriors, I am, by no means claiming to have the authoritative voice on the shift in global education. I believe Charlotte Iserbyt, Diana Anderson, and many others before me have that. However, when we use their roots and add the information as it surfaces, we help create a strong force of information that answers many questions.
We also can see many things which have been played down by our leaders, or, worse, left out completely. We also can use this information to form new ways in which to protect our students AND our nation.

I urge you, look in your State’s legislative archives for when your “State and the World Project” began. It may be under a slightly different name, but the signs ARE there.

Sic’ ‘Em Saturday: Ed Leaders Aligned Standards?!

As a Common Core warrior, it is important to state that education reform in the realm of the CC Standards finds us uncovering alignment from all angles. No matter if it is directed toward the students, teachers, administration, or other areas in education, there is always something there which points (either very subtly or very glaringly) us back to the CCSS Machine. My example today is the new “Digital Promise”/“Getting Smart” Education ‘white paper’. Not only will you find the Asia Society, the Chief Council of State School Officers (CCSSO), the Alliance for Excellence in Education, named in the white paper, but the Bush Society, the New Leaders, and the updated educational leaders standards from the ISLLC (Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium). The two of the main organizations presenting the 2015  ISLLC Standards  are the CCSSO and the NPBEA (National Policy Board for Educational Administration). I was able to find the 2014 CCSSO ISLLC Public Comment report (which I’ve provided for you). Why go back to that report? In the introductory pages, you’ll find a list of other organizations involved in educational leadership alignment. (For example, AIR (the American Institute of Research), the NGA (National Governors Association, as in the other 1/2 owner of CCSS copyrights) You’ll also be able to access the sentences surrounding the fact that these aligned, updated educational leader standards are for “45 states and the District  of Columbia”.

Six Standards for Educational Leaders:

The ISLLC has a set of 6 Standards for educational leaders. Many websites and publications have them listed for your informational purposes. One site, which I’m providing not only has them in a concise form, but also has a live link back to the CCSSO you may wish to follow. ASCD Weighs In:

The ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) has also given their thumbs up on the updated 2015 ISLLC Standards. They’ve also expressed their concerns about the Standards. Why do I involve the ASCD? ASCD is a well identified educational leadership resource…it also is 100% Common Core aligned. It has roots in Gates Foundation funding, it impacts educational leaders on all levels, in every state. Digital Promises Ties to CCSS:

“Digital Promise” is another portion of the CCSS Machine. It also can be found by another name:  ‘National Center for Research in Advanced Information and Digital Technologies’. What’s noteworthy is the under the NCRAIDT name, you can learn it originated as part of the non profit entities of the U.S. federal government. Straight from the DP’s website history page:

“Digital Promise is an independent, bipartisan nonprofit, authorized by Congress in 2008 as the National Center for Research in Advanced Information and Digital Technologies through Section 802 of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, signed into law by President George W. Bush.

With an initial Board of Directors recommended by Members of Congress and appointed by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, President Barack Obama formally launched Digital Promise in September 2011. Closing/Action Steps:

First, if you’ve not been able to see the connections between the 2015 ISLLC Standards for Educators and the pro CCSS groups involved, please go back and re-read this. While you probably won’t see any of the documents spell out “Common Core State Standards”, you can easily identify the known groups, people, and agenda of CCSS. Remember, many of the pro CCSS buzzwords/phrases are rich in these documents.

Second, notice the involvement of the well known, pro CCSS public private partnerships involved in educational leader reform. Did you notice the level of encouragement for MORE P3 involvement in educational leader reform? It is definitely there.

Third, share this with an educational leader. Talk with them. What are they experiencing? Is there are way we can reach out to them and help them NOT to become aligned to Common Core and its mission?

Have you heard of a portion of Race to the Top Funding that was used to create a CCSS laden course of study for North Carolina?! Yes, RttT is old news, but as we’ve seen in all that the CCSS Machine controls, old money still corrupts education every new day. What IF your state has a GTN?!

What’s the “GTN”?:

It stands for the “Governor’s Teacher Network”. (website: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/rttt/gtn/)

It’s no secret how in love with Common Core the NC Public School System, the Governor, and many others in NC are. Add to that 450 hand selected teachers spread out across the state to not only be steeped in all things CC related, but to be paid $10,000 each to teach to the Standards is ghastly!!

What a GTN Teacher does:

From the website,

“Network teachers will be selected through a rigorous application process; will receive specialized training related to their projects, and support from NCDPI staff over the course of the year; and will be paid $10,000 for their work. Beginning in summer 2014, these teachers will serve for one year developing projects that support key RttT initiatives (professional development and digital instructional resources for Home Base) in their schools and districts. Network teachers will remain in their current roles, but will also design and deliver individual projects that address needs in the classroom, school or LEA level.  These projects will fit within one of two pathways:

  • Pathway 1: Professional Development
    Teachers will create professional development sessions and materials (face-to-face, webinars and online modules) to address classroom instructional needs and  increase the PD offerings in the state-wide Professional Development system in Home Base.
  • Pathway 2: Instructional Resources
    Teachers will create instructional sequences for Home Base that are aligned to the N C Standard Course of study and that consist of unit plans, lesson plans that seamlessly integrate the formative assessment process in daily practice, and where applicable, assessment items that are aligned to the standards to be taught in the lessons/unit.”

Did you catch the “Home Base” reference? Did you understand the Day One peppy teacher’s task was to create a better social studies class via discipline? My, my..how about the ‘aligned to specific content standards’? Yep, CC in plain sight, but yet, not one ‘official reference’ to it.

So, What’s ‘Home Base’?:

Simply put, another way to data mine in NC. Pearson Publishing is behind “Home Base”. Wait, you didn’t know that?? Here’s the proof: “Home Base encompasses instructional improvement system and student information system components (IIS). In September 2012, NC began transitioning to a new SIS by upgrading from NC WISE to Pearson’s PowerSchool product. In December 2012, NCDPI awarded a contract to Pearson for the instruction, assessment and dashboard components of the IIS. In February 2013, NCDPI signed a contract with Public Consulting Group and Truenorthlogic, partnering vendors for the educator evaluation and professional development components of the IIS.” (See the rest of the official announcement, http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/homebase/faq/overall/ )

*Note: Many, many articles have been written about the massive amounts of data mining Pearson does. Truenorthlogic and PCG are in the mix as well. From a general internet search, I was able to locate CCSS aligned Truenorthlogic materials not only in NC, but also in GA, CT, and AZ. However, it’s the ties Truenorthlogic has with the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers) that should really set you off!

How would you know if your state has a similar Network sold out to Common Core? Look in your Public Dept. of Education. Here in NC, across the top of the RttT page, is a tiny link that can take you straight to the Governor’s RttT Dept. However, that link is now defunct. (see below)

So, is there anything else the GTN does?

Oh, when you consider all the indoctrinated RttT, CCSS, and other such, I’m sure of it.  In fact, one of my fellow anti CC warriors who gets updates from the NC Dept of Public Instruction alerted me that a ‘global rubric’ agenda action item is upcoming on 2/5/15 during a regular meeting. Here’s  a portion of the tip.
“Agenda items include an update on global education in reference to the Governor’s Teacher Network, a discussion on the internationalizing of teacher education.” Be sure to know that I’ll see what I can dig up after the 5th as a result of this meeting.

First Up, The Fib-o-Meter:

When I first began my blog, I set aside Fridays to bust the myths surrounding Common Core wide open. Today’s entry is no different. I’m focusing the Fib-o-Meter on “Primary Source”.  I discovered this globally minded, 25 year old group from The Global Education Conference from 2014. If you’re not familiar with the Fib-o-Meter, it’s pretty straight forward, I find the facts, and see if they turn out to be ‘totally true’, ‘not sure’,  or ‘total fallacy’. To date, many ‘facts’ about CCSS have been measured. It’s tragic how many have been proven to be “Total Fallacy’, or as in this case, “Total Truth”.

“Primary Source”:

Website: http://www.primarysource.org/homepage ; it’s another non profit organization in America. They pride themselves on providing curriculum, learning opportunities, and other related resources to educators, particularly those who teach in history or humanities. (If we were to run this statement through the Fib-o-Meter, it would be “Total Truth”) However, as we know to be the case, IF Common Core’s involved, it’s lurking somewhere. Oh, one more truth, PS (Primary Source) helps shape what students learn.

Where’s the Core?:

Now, if you look at the PS website, nothing glares at you “Common Core”. So, is it there? After all, look at what PS does..shapes students for global life with curricula, etc. However, the website is quick to tell you how you can look up their non profit status. Through a company called “Guiding Star, Inc.”. So, off we go…Fib-o-Meter can call “Total Truth” to the fact this company does exist. It can also be trusted to snoop out the Gates Foundation Funding…another “Total Truth”! Guide Star is supposed to be a non profit information resource. Who knew Gates would be funding it! “Total Truth” is the amount spent so far by the Gates folks, tops the $3 million dollar mark. See below:

Now, just because Gates has given so much to a informational service connected to “Primary Source”, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily riddled with CCSS, now does it? Well, let’s see…. When you search the PS site for CCSS, you’ll get at least 24 different resources from the group! Here’s the MOST telling one, “Looking for ways to infuse curriculum units with high-quality instructional resources and meet the demands of the federally mandated Common Core State Standards, BPS reached out to Primary Source to design lesson activities for grades 2-5 involving close readings of informational texts. Each lesson contains an age-appropriate primary source, supporting materials for teaching about the text, and student-ready text-dependent questions. In an effort to take a more practical Common Core approach to teaching history and social studies, BPS requested close reading activities that matched the standards for each grade level, and allowed teachers to lead their students through intensive text analysis involving multiple and dynamic re-readings.” {Note: BPS stands for Boston Public Schools}. Here’s another “Total Truth”, “With multiple units needed to achieve a depth and breadth of content, our curriculum design approach was two-fold: adapt what we do to meet the needs of BPS while instilling our passion for global education. Who Governs PS?:

Between the Advisors, Board of Directors, there are at least 3 well known CCSS tied groups. Asia Society, The U.S. Dept. of Ed, Harvard University, and many others. See: http://www.primarysource.org/advisory-board

About that Global Education Conference:

The PS website was used during a presentation during the 2014 Conference. The presentation was titled, “A Strategy for Globalizing Secondary School: Global Citizenship/Competency Certificates”. Here’s the short description of the workshop lead by the top person at PS, “This session will share the practice and theory of global citizenship/competency certificates as a method to increase the reach of global education throughout a secondary school while providing opportunities for some students to obtain a certificate upon completion of certain academic coursework, service activities and travel/cross-cultural goals.” The leader? Pete Gilmartin. He loves global education (“Total Truth “. He really loves China, another “Total Truth”). In fact, he has appeared at the Asia Society’s 2012 and 2013 National Conferences. Back in 2012, it wasn’t Mr. Gilmartin leading a CCSS workshop, but the workshop, “Common Core Getting There Globally” WAS lead by 2 PS leaders. (another “Total Truth”). 

Other Global Ed Conference/Common Core ties include “Cutting Through the Common Core (State Standards) Using a Global Approach” from the 2014 Conference. Here’s an excerpt that is “Total Truth”, “All across the U.S., educators are narrowly focusing in on the recently released Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  Despite the efforts of the Asia Society and other international organizations, the larger global perspective is largely being overlooked. Many educators are still unfamiliar even with the basic concept of Global Competence.   This presentation will briefly analyze the movement towards a national standards regime in the US and make a case for broadening the discussion of global education beyond PISA scores and Finnish Lessons.”

Added Bombshell (In My Opinion):

In the comments left for the above Global Ed Conference featured workshop, this was included, “Department of Education International Strategy”. So here’s an excerpt from the strategy plan (released in 2012 and expires in 2016), “The U.S. Department of Education has established its first-ever, fully articulated international strategy. The strategy is designed to simultaneously advance two strategic goals: strengthening U.S. education and advancing our nation’s international priorities. The strategy reflects the value and necessity of:
• a world-class education for all students;
• global competencies for all students;
• international benchmarking and applying lessons learned from other
countries; and
• education diplomacy and engagement with other countries.”

Then there’s this, “The Global Competence Task Force, formed and led by the Council
of Chief State School Officers and the Asia Society, defined globally competent individuals as those who use their knowledge and skills to  investigate the world beyond their immediate environment, recognize their own and others’ perspectives, communicate their ideas effectively with diverse audiences, and translate their ideas into appropriate actions. In short, global competencies are “21st century skills applied to the world.””
