Trickery Gets Education Nowhere

Anti Fed Ed Warriors, for years AND in spite of whatever political party is in charge, we’ve gotten pretty much NOWHERE near ending the grasp of those educratic, sold out leaders to the CCSS Machine in relation to our citizens.

What we HAVE gotten in exchange is a bunch of U.S. Constitution dishonoring laws, policies, and farces.

Amendment 13 was written to end slavery, yet, as the Progressive/Technocratic modern education reform has been playing out, more and more students, teachers, and education leaders of all ages are being enslaved to mind numbing workforce training!

Amendment 14 was written to throw out any Congress member or other federal leader for insurrection against the Constitution.

The entire education reform IS an insurrection against America!

Let’s not forget that what happens at the Federal level makes it way down to the State level as long as the States ignore the 10th Amendment!!

A Fighting Back Tool:

Warriors, if you already listened to the FPE Media “Alternative Education in the Crosshairs” Segment 1’s discussion of the lies being spun about the shift in education FROM academics TO workforce training, then you’ll know I cited HR5587 and S3271.
These pieces of legislation were expressly FOR increasing the amount of workforce based/competency geared education for ALL educational choices.

Today, I’m tackling two of them in an update.

Trickery, Process, or, Both?

As per the legislative process, at the end of each Congressional session, no pending business is left on the table. So, when the new Congress convened in January 2017, it was a fresh start. That BOTH Chambers rebrand older versions of bills or update them, is nothing new.

What has Congress done to HR5587 and S3271? It is important to note that their newer versions weren’t released  until AFTER our Series was published.

The Bills:

HR5587 (Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century) and its ‘sister’ S3271 (Workforce Advance Act).

In 2016 I laid each of these (and a few more) out for your information bank of anti Fed Ed Warrior ‘weapons’.

So, what changes/updates have HR5587 and S3271 seen?

Check out this excerpt from the ACTE’s “CTE Policy Watch” in the screen shot below in regards to HR5587.

ACTEstmt
Wow, 5587’s name remained!
Only the bill number (and a few other small changes) will be revised. So, what are those ‘small’ changes? I’d like to point out the yet-to-numbered version is 97 pages long.

The first change I saw was a word play game. (a very worn out CCSS Machine tactic)

For example, on Page 4, “by striking ‘‘academic and career and  technical skills’’ and inserting ‘‘academic knowledge and technical and employability skills’’;  B) by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’  after ‘‘technical education programs’’; (2) in paragraph (3), by striking “including  tech prep education’’; and  (3) in paragraph (4), by inserting ‘‘and programs of study’’ after ‘‘technical education programs’’.

By removing ‘including’, education’s shift to that of a worker skilled based one is undeniable.

How so? The only amount of  academics remaining will directly be related to your career tracked CTE courses.

Other noticeable changes to HR5587:
A shift from 5 occupational tracks to 3 tracks
That aligned ‘challenging academic state standards’ must be present at the post-secondary level of education in your State
‘In demand industry skills’ will be given top priority in education
Crenditialing will replace Associate degrees and other such certificates in some instances
The increasingly popular education ‘fix all tool’: pay for success formulas for States.

The rest of HR5587 remains (for example: the early college programs; dual enrollment; middle school career explorations, etc.) Most especially: CTE Concentrators and Participants (meaning teachers, students, schools, and partnerships between education and business).
The Senate HELP Committee  5/3/17 introduced S1004 “Perkins Fund for Equity and Excellence”. From all appearances, S1004 replaced S3271. According to Congress.gov’s website, S3271 is still in the HELP’s possession..dormant. Does that mean the content of S3271 went away, too? Not in a ‘New York minute’.

You’ll still find the CCSS Machine’s rhetoric concerning the value of competency based education. You’ll still spot the ‘need’ to ‘redesign high schools’ as well as ‘support CTE innovation’ without a need to remediate students.

How?! “equitable access to rigorous, engaging, and relevant real world education through partnerships with business and industry and higher education that prepare students to graduate from high school and enroll into postsecondary education… with the ability to use knowledge to solve complex problems, think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and develop academic mindsets.”

S1004 will also encompass those outside the public, traditional classrooms.

In the screen shot below, note the highlighted sentences and phrases. ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) embedded ‘region specific education’. WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) contains the STANDARDS (as cited in ESSA) by which States are to align all learning/teaching. Lastly, let’s remember that one of the CCSS’s rebrands for nationally aligned Standards was/is “College/Career Readiness”!!

S1004

Warriors, as was pointed out in our Series, these federal laws and bills are written to link each other like gears and cogs. This is fitting considering the CCSS Machine is grinding our nation down.

Other S1004 important notes:
Skill based assessments will not go away
Funding for States will be up for increase/decrease depending on the conformity level of participation by each State
Workforce Development Boards at the State level will continue to increase
Increased presence of corporate America in the classrooms and resources (for all age groups/education ‘choices’)
Wrap-around services, including SEL (social emotional learning)
The Secretary of Education (DeVos) will get an increase in power as well

Power Is A Dangerous Thing:

Finding yet another piece of proposed legislation giving the U.S. Secretary of Education (regardless who that person is)more power is proof our Congress has no clue, or doesn’t care, that NO federal intrustion into education should be happening!! It definitely feels like a trick.

So, here’s what I found on DeVos and CTE.
1) U.S. News and World Reports’ Opinion page stated (Dec. 2016) that DeVos should have CTE high on her priority list. The author even titled the piece ‘A New Race to the Top’. (a side note here: I wonder if the author realized the U.S. Dept. of Labor already has this in place for CTE via the WQDI (Workforce Quality Data Initiative). In the article, P-Tech (already in place in NY) is mentioned, as is the Western MI Avation Academy.

2) Advance CTE’s website includes Western MI Avation Academy AND DeVos’s testimony before the Senate HELP Committee here.

In her HELP testimony she stated students SHOULD have CTE. Her exact words: “students really need to have a full menu of options,” including “technical schools, community colleges [and] apprenticeships.” (by the way, this fits with her ‘school choice’ belief)

3) DeVos is also pushing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) as part of the way America can have more connections to CTE. This makes sense when you factor in how much STEM is embedded in WIOA, ESSA, HEA, and the STEM Act.

4) DeVos was joined by a Trump family member pushing STEM back in March 2017.

More Tricks:

Warriors, my good friend Deb Gerry Herbage writes a blog named “Exposed!”. She recently had a post where you’ll find out other tricks and lies we’ve been sold/told by the CCSS Machine member group, AIR, Inc. You’ll see how she found the States involvement in these lies, too. I urge you to read it.

You’ll also want to consider this screen shot from an AIR, Inc. 2015 publication. Then apply this evidence to the updates in both HR5587’s update and S1004:

AIRCASEL

Closing:

Warriors, have no fear! Regardless of the countless tricks the CCSS Machine dishes out, I am confident we will be swift in exposing the word games, number changes, and anything else coming down the pike. I will keep digging to see what other changes Congress isn’t openly sharing.

Four Parts, One Truth

Hello, my fellow Anti Fed Ed/CCSS Warriors! I’m back from a brief break and so honored to share with you all 4 segments of the special video project I told you about back in April 2017.

Freedom Project Media recorded and produced the Series titled “Alternative Education in the Crosshairs”. The Series is a result of the education research and activism of not only myself, but Kirsten Lombard (Resounding Books) and Mary Black (Freedom Project Academy)

Since I began my fight (2009), I’ve purposed to look in every area the push for national standards has been taken. Most Warriors, early on, were easily finding the push/reform in public/traditional classrooms across America. However, I knew, from other ‘non traditional’ educators that NO educational choice would escape the national standards.

The problem was, not many outside this group,  believed it. To this day, even some inside the ‘non traditional’ education community still think they will escape the national overhaul in education. This, quite simply, is a purposed lie produced by the CCSS Machine’s propaganda.

As you know, many (myself included), have brought this overlooked reality into the forefront. Since ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) passed, it is really becoming QUITE clear, just how menacing these national standards are to ALL educational choices.

Kirsten, Mary, and, I knew we had to do more. In less than 3 months, we met, wrote, traveled, and, filmed these 4 segments. They are geared for anyone outside the ‘traditional’ public education system. That stated, there is plenty in each segment, for anyone involved in education. Be it teaching, leading, researching, advocating, etc.

The results of our efforts? Four open conversations. One distinct truth: ESSA does not reserve itself for public PreK to Career classrooms or educational resources. It encompassses every single citizen in this nation. We tell you HOW in plain terms.

On behalf of Kirsten and Mary, I ask you to share these segments. They are about 20 to 28 minutes each. They are in segments so that you, the Anti Fed Ed/CCSS Warrior, can take listen/watch as your schedule allows. Take what you can and use it LOCALLY. Learn from it and hold fast to the truths revealed on the FEDERAL level.

Segment 1: Workforce Shift in Education embraces all ages and at every educational institution. What’s already in place and what’s about to march into your home towns.
We expose the word games being played on us, as American citizens.

competentdef

Segment 2: Data Mining as New Currency especially impacts all ages at every educational institution to support the ruse of ‘personalized learning’ AND big profits for big businesses as well as your States.

fishdata

Segment 3: The Danger of School Choice again will reveal for you the word games being played out from the federal level on down to your local districts. If you think ‘school choice’ in ESSA will be allowed, listen to the evidence we have uncovered. Control by the CCSS Machine lurks behind those ‘education savings accounts’, too.

sctruth

Segment 4: Local Control/Exclusion of Parents via ESSA is not, at all, what we’ve been led to believe! We’ve all heard and seen the passionate speeches about ESSA returning control to the States. We’ve all seen the States begin to turn in their ‘local’ ESSA plans. We show you HOW every bit of this will remain in the hands of those in the FEDERAL level. In fact, the federal grasp, especially through P3s (public private partnerships), will INCREASE!

The Chain Gang Cometh

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, when I share what I just found out, I hope the chorus from The Pretenders song,“Back on the Chain Gang”, doesn’t pop into your head. I know it did in my head. The chorus goes, “We’re back on the train; oh back on the chain gang.” However, look at the last verse,
“The powers that be
That force us to live like we do
Bring me to my knees
When I see what they’ve done to you
But I’ll die as I stand here today
Knowing that…”

So, What in the World Would Invoke This?!

chaingang
That’s right..another *&&^%* fed bill connecting education to anything that could even be considered related, no matter if it truly is or NOT. This one doesn’t have a number yet, that I could find. Notice the language in the tweet in the middle…‘we must’.

I want to pause and state for ‘the record’ that I agree there are things, we as a people MUST do, but as a federally controlled government? NO! Especially when you factor in how EVERYTHING about education is NOT a Constitutionally protected federal jurisdiction! Think about it, since the federal government has NO legality over education, they shouldn’t be able to include education into some area that is their business. By no means am I an expert on our penal system.  However, I DO know education! So, for the remainder of this article, I’ll lay out the federal overreaches into education from a juvenile justice angle.

First Up, Before ESSA, “At-risk” Measures:

From my 2014 article about ‘alternative education’, where you will find every student population OUTSIDE a public school student, as well as certain student populations INSIDE public education defined.
“At-risk” students fall into BOTH categories. “The Dropout Prevention Center/Network notes that CTE (Career Tech Education) is one of its 15 solutions or strategies. The Center/Network believes “such as individualized instruction, service-learning, community collaboration, mentoring, active learning, and educational technology. According to the Center, “A quality CTE program and a related guidance program are essential for all students.” CTE was identified to have five potential benefits to at-risk students by Schargel and Smink in Strategies to Help Solve our School Dropout Problem. These benefits include enhancement of students’ motivation and academic achievement; increased personal and social competence related to work in general; a broad understanding of an occupation or industry; career exploration and planning; and acquisition of knowledge or skills related to employment in particular occupations or more generic work competencies.”

If you’ve not read this, please do. While the information is a bit dated, we, as anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors know the value of information. The resources in the article are key to our current fight. See:
https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/03/tech-thursday-career-techcommon-core-and-alternative-education/

Secondly, Before ESSA was ESSA:

Not so long ago, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) wasn’t called the “Every Student Succeeds Act”. The House had their own version of a made over ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Act, 1965), and called it HR5 or the “Student Success Act”. The Senate had their own version, S1177 or the “Every Student Achieves Act”.

“ESSA” as we know it was a combined effort to take the much more effective HR5 and ‘water it down’ with the S1177.

So, what did HR5 AND S1177 have in regards to ‘at-risk’ students? Here’s an excerpt from my 2015 article about CCSS/CTE updates. “reveals how IDEA funding and more, are being abused for the post-secondary alignment to all things CCSS, CTE for students with any sort of special needs, or ‘at risk’ students. Even if you do not have a student in either of these populations, it is OUR tax money which funds IDEA.”  I urge you to go back and read what’s in this jam-packed informative article. See:
 https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/07/weekend-news-ccsscte-catch-up-edition/

If you want to see details about how SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is being abused by the CCSS Machine and will be used for ‘at-risk’ students (as well as others), see: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/11/21/weekend-news-the-state-of-ccsss-sel/

ESSA Embeds WIOA and HEA, A Toxic Triangle:

ESSA: Every Student Succeeds Act
WIOA: Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act
HEA: Higher Education Act

You know how well I’ve shown you the documents, links, and resources which tie these 3. When you factor in ‘at-risk’ students, however, you are going to get Civil Rights groups, Drop Out groups, social justice/awareness groups, and anti-poverty groups.
Warriors, do NOT misunderstand me. I am NOT anti-education; anti-job; or anti-rehabilitation. But as evidence has shown us, when our Congress is bending anything AND everything to meet the CCSS Machine’s agenda of any and all education/education related, or service related activity to the workforce based education system SOMETHING it’s definitely toxic.

ESSA has definitive language for ‘at-risk’ students. One of the chief ties in ESSA connected to these students is WIOA. Here’s an excerpt you’ll need, “The Department of Labor has administered the YouthBuild program since September 2006. The YouthBuild program is administered by the Employment and Training Administration’s Office of Workforce Investment, Division of Youth ServicesYouthBuild is a community-based alternative education program that provides job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24. Youth learn construction skills while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods.” See the entire article: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/silent-partners/

From August 2016, this article will give you an easy trail to connect the National Drop Out Prevention Network to ESSA AND the UN’s 2030 Goals for global education

So, The House of Representatives Wants an Update:

I guess the rhetorical question should be WHY is Congress being allowed to create legislation which violates our U.S. Constitution? Think about it, these honored public servants take oaths to protect their State level Constitutions, but they ALSO take an oath to protect (at ALL costs) our U.S. Constitution!

To see the ‘facts’ the House has put together about this update 1974 Law:
http://democrats-edworkforce.house.gov/imo/media/doc/2016-06-22%20HR%205529%20HSIs%20fact%20sheet.pdf

To see the House’s Summary of why this is a great idea to update this Law:
http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/bill_summary_-_supporting_youth_opportunity_and_preventing_delinquency_act.pdf
(*Note: look at the familiar words or phrases we’ve seen connected to ESSA, WIOA, and HEA)

Key things this updated Law will mandate for the States:
a) It’s 96 pages long
b) It re-authorizes AND improves its predecessor (Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974)
c) ‘The improvements’? “other purposes”. We’ve seen this when ESEA was re-authorized, and a plethora of other fed laws. This is how bills with one purpose suddenly morphs into a multi-purpose bill.
d) From Page 3, “‘‘(4) to support a continuum of evidence-based  or promising programs (including delinquency prevention, intervention, mental health, behavioral  health and substance abuse treatment, family services, and services for children exposed to violence)  that are trauma informed, reflect the science of adolescent development, and are designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth and youth who come into contact with the justice system.’’.”
(*Note: considering the evidence by other anti CCSS Warriors about the use of Title One funding for behavior management, that should be warning enough.)
e) On Page 6, I saw ‘data mining’, shortly followed by ‘chemical agents’, then ‘isolation’. I don’t need to tell you the chemical agents were spelled out. Very creepy!
f) On the top of Page 7, that ‘isolation’ is defined as 1o minutes or more. Again, creepy! (Be sure you look at the medical personnel involved. Also, be sure to see the reference to ‘restraints’.)
g) On Page 8, the descriptions of how students are identified as ‘at risk’ and in need of behavior interventions.
h) On Page 9, the assessments included will include ‘previous records’, you can bet transcripts or report cards will be included.
i)  On Page 10, the pointers to psychology measures. Think about all the anti CCSS research which has pointed in that direction.
j) Page 11 begins the section for long term juvenile justice systems. Consider the documented cases already in the media about children as young as Kindergarten being put on suspension.

Look at this:

Closing:

Warriors, there is SO much more in this U.S. House of Representatives bill. As you can see, we haven’t even made it to Page 20 and look at all the ties! I’m not sure about you, but this type of legislation grieves my soul tremendously.
Please, look at the rest of this Bill! If you have connections you easily see, share them! You know I am open to sharing information so we can be as equipped as possible. If you think you see a red flag, that usually means there is one.

“Conformity Readiness”

conformready
Warriors Against the Core: In today’s “Tech Thursday” article, I will be taking an in-depth look at the ‘College and Career Readiness’ so interwoven in the ESSA. How does it connect to the Common Core? History, updates, resources, and much more information you need to know.

You recognize CCR, right? The College and Career Readiness that was to replace CCSS (Common Core State Standards), that was to be better than CCSS? That was to be one of the ways the ESSA(Every Student Succeeds Act) ditched the CCSS? Yeah, right..I we all have beach front homes in KS!

“Air Apparent”:

It is no secret how much a part of the CCSS Machine Air, Inc. is but in case you haven’t seen some of the latest CCR (College and Career Readiness) propaganda, you are in for a ‘treat’!
Before we continue our look at AIR, Inc. let’s take a step back in time to see the foundation for CCR (College and Career Readiness).

A Step Back:

One of the only truly apparent things about CCR is that they were woven into the RttT (Race to the Top) applications and waivers..right along WITH CCSS! Below (as an example) is what NC did with its RttT money for CCR:
NCCCR
Access the document: NCCCRRttTguide

From the blast of the past concerning the screen shot above, comes this excerpt that will help continue the point I am making today.
Career & College: Ready, Set, Go! is designed to mobilize all of these individuals and groups toward the goal of graduating all students from high school prepared for further education and successful employment. This high-level goal encompasses many smaller goals and objectives that will move North Carolina public schools forward. In their successful application for federal Race to the Top funding, state education leaders capitalized on the work that was already underway and received federal funding to help North Carolina move further and faster toward realizing Career & College: Ready, Set, Go! for every school district, every public school and every student.

Now, notice that “public schools” were stressed. Back when this was written, most school choices were not conforming to the CCR.
Fast forward to 2016..and every school choice, in some way or other is conforming to CCR!

This is NOT a NC specific problem, either, this is a nation-wide one. Before we move on, take one more look at this old NC document. Notice the SAT ties, the AP ties, the post-secondary aspects (community colleges and major 4 year universities). Notice the timeline. The 2016-17 school year is the LAST year before ESSA’s complete implementation is to take place. (Per the ESSA, everything must be in place no later than the 2017-18 school year.) Again, a nation-wide problem, not just a NC issue!

ccrcirca2010

So what do you think the rest of the States will do with the money coming down from D.C. with the CCR ties in the ESSA? If what the States did with RttT is an example, they will use it to continue breeding master conformers NOT citizens with free will! However, if your State didn’t get RttT funds, you still have the CCR..thanks to the CCSS Machine! All so conformity can be the end result of education for workforce needs.

Those Handy, Dandy Air, Inc. CCR Pocket Guides:

These are rather dated as well, the post I found was from 2013. Again, before the ESSA and its passage, but also another portion of the CCR foundation. It is here we will see the point in time when our States truly sold us out.

The Guides were created in a way to ‘help state and local policymakers and practitioners implement the college- and career-ready reforms included in the flexibility waivers approved by the U.S. Department of Education. In 2011, the Department of Education waived certain provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in exchange for reform plans related to four principles, including achieving college and career readiness.’  What were the other 3 reform plans? Revamping state waivers to adhere to CCR; how CCR would be defined; and using best practices to help shape the States for CCR. Air, Inc. just helped promote the CCR to the States (at that point, 35 in total). It was the ESEA Flexibility Waivers the States received to help them conform to CCR
FlexCCR

It is important to point out that the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) does contain a passage where it declares the ESEA Flexibility Waivers as expired. However, there are other passages where the CCR lives on without them. Go back and read those Flex Waivers, however.
Why? The ESSA gives MORE power to the SEAs(State Education Agencies) in alignment for CCR’s Outcome Based Education. ESSA also gives the Feds MORE power when it comes to approving any State’s education plan. The old Flex Waivers study by Air, Inc. will tell you the CCR was rapidly replacing the importance of high school graduation. Why? The economic impacts!
The CCR Pocket Guide (below); read it to also see the involvement of the NGA (National Governors Association), the CCSSO (Council of Chief State School Officers), the P21 (Partnership for 21st Century Skills) and how the embedding of CCR into the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) would bring about all this conformity!
To get the CCR Guide this information is from: CCR_Pocket_Guide_0

Warriors, did you catch that? CCR was embedded INTO the CCSS! Since the ESSA embraces CCR that means the CCSS will live on! ESSA does use the phrase Common Core State Standards Initiative(CCSSI) 4 times in its Final Conference Report (1,059 pages), which means it is ALSO in the 391 page ESSA Final Law!! (Pages 130 uses CCSSI in relation to standards states use and their assessments; 825 uses CCSSI in relation to State educational waivers; 843 uses CCSSI in relation to federal financial support to the States; and 859 in relation to not prohibiting the States from withdrawing from the CCSS.)

Warriors, ask yourselves this: How can you keep the Initiative without the Initiative’s Standards??

Air, Inc.’s 2015-16 CCR Resource Guide:

What is the most interesting about this guide (not available in pocket size) is that while it says College and Career Readiness Standards and Assessments, scroll through and see how many of the resources are in fact, Common Core State Standards and Assessments. Notice how many other CCSS Machine members you see! Get this Guide: College-and-Career-Readiness-Assessment-Resources-Winter-2015-16

‘New America’ Maps CCR:

This member of the CCSS Machine has a handy, dandy website where you can literally see a map of the USA in colors to denote just how CCR they truly are. To see it: http://atlas.newamerica.org/mapping-college-readiness

How I know they are a CCSS Machine member: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/wybi-new-america-ed-central-pre-k-to-high-pay/ (*Note: the biggest clue to The Atlas website and my article? Beside the name, the logo gives it away.)

ESSA’s CCR:

When you search for the exact phrase ‘college career readiness’ in the ESSA Final Report, you will receive nothing. However, shorten it to one word (in my search, I used ‘readiness’). I found the following page numbers which will tie up the point:
CCR is most definitely embedded in the ESSA! It isn’t going away!
*Be sure to note that these are summaries. How did the writers omit CCR as we know it? ‘Post-secondary readiness’ OR ‘career readiness’, but NOT ‘College and Career Readiness’!

Page 85, Page 324, Page 328, Page 340, Page 374, Page 439, Page 462, Page 482, Page 516, Page 597, Page 601, Page 611, Page 615, Pages 626/629, Page 631, Pages 677/684,
Page 695, Pages 723/724, Page 803, Page 884, and Page 951.

Warriors Against the Core, just because the writers and sponsors of ESSA performed ‘language foul play’ by not using the exact phrase “College and Career Readiness”, doesn’t mean CCR isn’t there..it is, in plain sight with words that mean the same thing!!

Other Handy, Dandy Pocket Guides from the Government:

Directly related to the ESSA (and the supposed return of state control/CCR improvements/ and more) I give you the U.S. House of Representative’s EdWorkforce Committee Pocket Guides.
http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/top10.png
http://edworkforce.house.gov/uploadedfiles/gop_principles.png

From the U.S. Senate’s HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) page, I searched for their take on CCR, the top resource? A group of supportive statements for the ESSA’s passage into law, where CCR was mentioned by several. See: http://www.help.senate.gov/ranking/newsroom/press/widespread-support-for-every-student-succeeds-act
To see their pdf documents for ‘CCR in Practice’:
http://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/career-and-college-readiness-in-practice

Also of note from the HELP website is a document they have in their archives titled
This undated document is from the WV Dept. of Education and its addressing of the (then) newly released, voluntary CCSS.
Why do I bring this up? The search I conducted was for ‘College Career Readiness’, the description HELP has this document labeled with is that the NGA and the CCSSO published the CCR Standards(see the screen shot). Do you see the connection? The NGA and CCSO did publish Standards, but they were the CCSS, this document serves as proof the CCS AND the CCR are one and the same!

HELPWVPaine

Here’s the most CCR excerpt I could find from the document, “Lastly, the common standards are aligned with college and work expectations. By preparing all students to be both college and career ready, all students are able compete in their post-secondary education and/or career choice. Preparing all students to be college and career is absolutely critical to the long-term success of the country. By providing a set of expectations that are clear to students, parents and educators about what it takes to be college and career ready, the states have taken a major step forward in producing students who are ready for later success.” To access the entire document: Paine1

Warrior Question, why is it ‘Standards’ if they are ‘expectations’?

FOM Friday: Best CCSS Fallacies

It's Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what's truth, what's fallacy/fib or what's in between.
It’s Friday, you know what that means! Time to measure what’s truth, what’s fallacy/fib or what’s in between.

Think of today’s “Fib-o-Meter” as the collection of the biggest fallacies we’ve heard/seen/experienced about CCSS so far. Enjoy!

Aligned School Leaders:

So far, 3 articles about Common Core and superintendents! Not only do students get penalized by Common Core, or teachers, but superintendents are being held to the Standards as well. Given that many of our state level superintendents are pro Common Core, you’ll need to see the first one from Sept. 2014: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/fib-o-meter-friday-state-superintendents-common-core-standards/ Not only will you see the attempt to rebrand CC, you’ll get to see how. Follow that with the 2nd CC/Super article that was created via reader/follower requests. It’s from Sept. 2014 as well and features more switcheroo tactics as well as bold face lies! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/26/fib-o-meter-friday-more-cc-aligned-superintendents/ The final CC/Super article from Oct. 2014, features Teach for America troops in addition to the final requested state superintendents. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/03/fib-o-meter-friday-even-more-state-superintendents-common-core/ For research purposes, see how aligned each of these Supers are. More than likely they will still be just as CC discipled as before.

School counselors are some of the best leaders in schools with access to not only faculty and students, but parents as well. Don’t think for a moment the CCSS Machine has missed the opportunity to ensure these counselors are selling the Career Pathways, Career Tech Education, and other CCSS related courses. While not a Fib-o-Meter Friday article, it WAS a Friday “Breaking News” post. See to what extent the federal overreach goes when it comes to the guidance students receive. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/fridays-post-breaking-news-you-need-to-know/

The Fallacy About CCS and IB Schools:

Maybe your student doesn’t attend a traditional school. Maybe they attend an IB (International Baccalaureate) one. Think Common Core isn’t there? Oh, my friends..it is. In fact, because IB schools are rooted in the UN (United Nations), CC is certainly there. Think about it, the global citizen aspect so much in Common Core. UN and UN related organizations helped shape that. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/fib-o-meter-friday-ib-international-baccalaureate-schools-common-core/

Fallacies About the Core Itself:

Lastly, for those new to the fight, you might find the fallacies of the Common Core interesting.
Originally written as a ‘see how much you know about the Core’ presentation for an audience, I shared in on the blog. There are many lies out there, would you know these? See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/12/fib-o-meter-friday-history-of-ccs/

In Jan. 2015, I wrote another FOM Friday about the lies of CC. See how many of these you know: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/16/fom-friday-update-truths-lies-of-ccss/

Tech Thursday: Recapping Higher Ed CTE/CCSS

How interesting the 'who's who' in CCSS, CTE, Career Pathways is becoming.
How interesting the ‘who’s who’ in CCSS, CTE, Career Pathways is becoming.

For today’s “Tech Thursday” article, I’ll be recapping some of my past anti CCSS/Career Tech Ed (CTE)/CCR (College Career Readiness) articles. Why? New followers who don’t have much information about Adult CCSS have been requesting help. Helping new warriors? I’m on it!

A Beginning:

Not long before we were saddled with Common Core Standards (I leave the ‘States’ out from time to time when writing. The States had nothing to do with CCS), a plan hatched by the PCAST team (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology). The plan? Creating more science and tech jobs. The means? Common Core Standards. The report was released so close to the rollout, language in the document stated carrying out the jobs agenda via the CCS. The date? 2010 The title of the report? The official title of the report is “Report to the President, Prepare & Inspire K-12 Education in STEM for America’s Future” The original article has the pdf for you to download, a bullet point list of all kinds of educational overhaul you’ll want to refer to. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/02/from-the-files-pcast-stem-and-common-core/

If you’d like an example of STEM woven into a state’s Workforce Training (ie CTE, CCR), check out my article about the STEM edcation waivers (thanks to Race to the Top). https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/02/wybi-wednesday-rttt-stem-ed-waivers-and-more/

A Pause:

Wait a minute above it says K-12? I thought this was about College/Career Readiness, etc. If you new to the fight against CCSS, you’ll be glad to know that CCSS not only was the vehicle of choice for STEM, but it’s being used as the vehicle for CCR Standards, too. And to think, CCSS is a brain child of P3s, not educators. CCSS is in complete violation of the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constiutution AND 3 federal education laws! (my very first post has the education laws and how CCSS violates them. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/08/30/welcome-introduction/ )

Adult CC Standards:

Post Secondary Common Core was always a part of big idea in aligning American education. To assume it ends at 12th grade is a mistake. Back in 2013, the U.S. Dept of Vocational Education published a report. The gist was because there hadn’t been cohesive Adult Standards before then, aligning them was a good thing. What’s of interest is some of the very same CCS writers were on board for writing the Adult version! Meaning anyone from community college to a 4 year higher learning institution would be in the sights of more alignment via CCS. You’ll really want to see how much better these aligned standards are than the previous ones. See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/common-core-after-high-school-reality-check/

An example of how Adult Common Core can impact your state’s post secondary education? NC’s is a great one! See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/ftf-tuesday-career-readiness-and-data/

HR5’s Claim on Post Secondary CCS and Your Students:

Because post secondary education has students of all ages and all educational backgrounds, it is a fallacy to assume that coming from somewhere CCS wasn’t taught into a CCSS aligned school, your students won’t be impacted. They absolutely will! It is happening on a daily basis as we speak. So, the ‘acclaimed’ HR5 (Student Success Act) made sure (buried in the bill, of course) that CTE (Career Tech Ed) would be embedded. If you’ve not read the text of the bill (it’s a doozy, over 600 pages). You’ll want to see pages 113 and 280. You’ll also want to see each reference to the Perkins Funding and/or IDEA funding. See my article from earlier this year will all the information and links related to this impending nail in education’s coffin.

Related information: Since we have all kinds of educational choices in America, have you ever wondered HOW those students outside a more traditional approach are defined? Yes, the U.S. Dept. of Education has even defined what ‘alternative’ education means. However, with the snares and mandates of HR5, how would your non traditional students fare? See: https://commoncorediva.wordpress.com/2014/12/03/tech-thursday-career-techcommon-core-and-alternative-education/

Lastly:

I have been asked by Women on the Wall to speak twice on a national phone in conference call about Common Core in post secondary education. I’ve provided both links for you here so you can access not only the information I shared, but the information from other experts as well. The first interview was in late 2014. The most recent one was a few weeks ago.
