This is Our Choice?!


Recently, one of my dear fellow Anti CCSS Warriors from the other side of the nation, contacted me about her State Superintendent’s words about being ‘choice ready’ by 2030.
My friend/Warrior, Ida F. has allowed me to share her State’s story so you can check in yours for similar such messages.

The State, ND; The ‘Super’, Baesler:

Baesler is also a Board Member serving the National Drop Out Prevention Network (NDOPN). In 2015, she, along with other NDOPN members held a national conference in TX. From the program I found detailing the conference, plenty of CCSS Machine members were not only in attendance, but were leading workshops. Was the ‘choice ready’ rhetoric there? Of course. There must be a 2030 Bandwagon Around Somewhere:

It appears that ND is not the only State jumping on the bandwagon heading for 2030, look at all these other 2030 Ready Resources I found.


1) Hoover Institute’s “American Education in 2030”. You’ll need to know that the Fordham Institute’s very own Chester Finn is cited in this book of 87 pages, that there is a copyright date of 2010 and is tied to the Leland Stanford Jr. University. This book is a collection of essays on education. See:

2) The Center for Teacher Quality’s “Teaching 2030: Leveraging Teacher Preparation 2.0”.
This 66 page document doesn’t give a clear date of when it was published, but it does give you an insight into what groups have influenced this report.  American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), NCATE (National Council for Teacher Accreditation), Commission on Effective Teachers and Teaching (CETT) an independent group convened by the NEA (National Education Association), and the National Bureau of Economic Research.
The CTQ Report is also a collection of related topics in education by various teacher/authors.

Here’s an excerpt, “Pre-service teachers need customized preparation for the 21st-century pedagogical skills demanded by not just the Common Core State Standards, but the global economy in which students must participate. Too much of today’s criticism of teacher education is driven by politics, not substance, and focuses on outdated issues instead of ones unique to the demands of 21st-century teaching and learning. Teacher preparation of today and tomorrow needs to equip new recruits to teach highly mobile students, develop their own assessments, improve data systems, engage parents and policymakers, and lead the transition of many of our high-needs schools into 24/7 community hubs.”

It appears that by 2030, teachers are to have the 3Cs: ‘Communication, character, and content’. In some way this is to go along with the CCSS Machine’s 4Cs for students: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. My question is this (and I do not mean to be snarky): Did I miss something?!  Since the 4Cs for students are happening NOW, why are teachers getting only 3Cs?  Why do they have to wait until 2030?

This 33 page research report is available on-line (I would suggest downloading it) and is based on the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) calculations and research.

2) The UN’s Education 2030 Agenda video. This short but scary video shows WHY the innovative data (written into ESSA and its related laws) is such a big deal.

The 2030 Agenda has been well reported (both by others and myself). That said if you don’t have see the connection between the UN, the US, the ‘choice readiness’, the data mining, and education, it is simply this: US is a ‘card carrying UN member. We have signed a global  goals agreement (known as SDGs, Sustainable Developmental Goals). Education is the fourth goal globally. The choice readiness will use the education and data for our students to be one of 3 tracks: college (leader or authority), citizen (includes military as protector or authority), or worker. So, Warriors, has Ida’s original question helped us? It is good to see that ND is hardly alone in this ‘choice ready by 2030’. Why? Knowing we are not standing alone in this War Against the Core is vital. Knowing how big the target is gives us quite a bit of space to aim our best informational shots at. It also affords us lots of room to strike consistently, often, and hard.

Ready or Not…

Anti CCSS/ESSA Warriors, we have seen the purposed shift from “Common Core State Standards” to “College and Career Ready Standards”. Together, we have found the evidence which proves these two phrases do NOT mean 2 different sets of Standards. They ARE one in the same. Together, we have found some of the CCSS Machine member organizations responsible for spewing education reform rhetoric. We have listened, seen, and experienced their fallacy ridden efforts to deceive Americans.

Trouble is, the CCSS Machine is NOT slowing down now that ESSA is the law of the land. In fact, the CCSS Machine is busy this summer cranking more fallacies up and out. The Machine only ASSUMES we Warriors are taking the summer break time to refrain from our “War Against the Core”.


The Superintendents Association:

If you have followed my blog long, you know how much of a part of the CCSS Machine, the AASA (American Association of School Administrators) or as they are more well known: ‘The School Superintendents Association’, is. If you are new to the blog, suffice it to say that this pro ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) group is VERY ready, willing, and so far, able to deceive Americans when it comes to ‘College and Career Readiness’. (*Note: the ESSA champions that CCSS (Common Core State Standards) will be gone and that CCR (College and Career Readiness) will replace them.)

So what has the AASA done to spread the deceptions? They have begun a national campaign called “Redefining Readiness”! This group is wasting no time in their pro ESSA efforts. Just a couple of months ago they were busy hosting ESSA webinars, writing reports on how great ESSA is for education to be returned to the States. And now, a national campaign..My, my..

It is interesting to note that you will not see the AASA’s logo or information on most of the webpages included on the Campaign site.
In fact it wasn’t until I got to the ‘Resources’ page that I found them. Here is an excerpt, “Take advantage of our resources to engage your schools and your communities in the important national campaign – Redefining Ready!  Our campaign seeks to equip school administrators with the necessary resources to easily implement the new college and career readiness metrics at high schools across the nation.  We have also created sample resolutions to help education advocates and government leaders support our initiative. Email RedefiningReady@aasa.org if you have resources you would like to share! “ What follows this exciting news, are sample letters, legislation, and other items for promoting College and Career Readiness. According to the National Campaign, there are 3 types of Readiness for our students.
College ready (students are determined ‘college ready’ by how well they score on assessment benchmarks and/or academic benchmarks.), Career Ready (students are determined ‘career ready’ by indicating a career choice, meeting behavior benchmarks, and performing community service.), and finally, Life Ready (students are determined as ‘life ready’ by leaving high school with ‘grit’ and perseverance; a ‘growing’ mindset, and very little else. So far, Warriors, you can see there is tremendous cause for concern. However, what you see below is straight from the National Campaign’s website. I hope you spot the irony.readyresearch
From the first paper (highlighted in red), comes this excerpt about the use of SLDS (student longitudinal data system), “The data for this study come from two sources: the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), conducted by WestEd (WestEd, 2014), and publicly available school-level data from the California Department of Education (CDE).”

Remember, Warriors, this national readiness campaign is supposed to be about education. See how the data mining is being used to redefine education?!

From the second highlighted red item, (which takes you to a Hechinger Report article, which has a study embedded (the study was conducted by a part of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services). The evidence used is based on how successful ONE (one of the nation’s largest) school district was. Here is the actual study:

Here you will find research which will impact EVERY person who gets a job. The first source cited is the Harvard University/Pearson Publishing project, “Pathway to Prosperity”. Yes, you will see the Redefining Readiness folks cite a 1988 Report. PtoP used THAT Report as inspiration. Oh, and alignment…

College and Career Readiness, WIOA, and HEA:

Since the CCSS Machine is out to streamline education from birth to the grave, two OTHER laws are in existence to make sure this happens in ADDITION to the ESSA.
These are WIOA of 2014 and the HEA (last re-written in 2008, renewed for funding purposes in Dec. 2015, and being re-written by some of the SAME backers as the ESSA)

WIOA of 2014 stands for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 and cemented into law Career Pathways, Career Clusters, apprenticeships, and so much more into our States. Job development grants, workforce based education, and data mining. The idea was to create it so that those wanting to work would have a certain track to follow and the data mining would help education plan and teach to these tracks. The WQDI (Workforce Quality Data Initiative) was created to pull this off. WIOA is from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. It covers the workforce..all ages, all educational choices.

HEA of 2008 stands for Higher Education Act. It,too has tons of data mining built in (yes, even then). It also had the foundation laid for educational alignment which we now see as work of the CCSS Machine. When ESSA was passed and the bragging speeches began in D.C. it was spoken as both a promise and a warning..that the HEA was next; that HEA was the final piece in the legislation which would complete the bridge from education to work.

I have covered post-secondary Common Core, Career Tech Education, or any of the other names the agenda uses, extensively. If you wish to have the evidence for WIOA, HEA, the WQDI, or how the 2017 Federal Education Budget Requests play into all this, please let me know.

ESSA Aligners


Back in February 2016, we Anti CCSS (and anti Fed Ed) Warriors listened in horror as Sen. Lamar Alexander listed off several groups already hard at work over implementing the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). We have witnessed these same groups repeatedly backing Common Core, Career Tech Education, Competency Based Education, and all the other aspects in this illegally based education reform.

So, what are the implementation efforts of these groups? That is the focus of today’s ‘From the Files’ article.

The Groups Mentioned during the Speech:

On Feb. 25, 2016, during the first U.S. Senate HELP (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions) Committee, Sen. Lamar Alexander revealed the following groups had formed a coalition to ensure education fit the ESSA.

National Governors Association, The National Educators Association, School Superintendents Association (aka: American Association of School Administrators),
American Federation of Teachers, National Conference of State Legislators, National Association of State Boards of Education, The National School Boards Association, National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, the National Secondary School Principals Association, and with the support of the Chief Council of State School Officers.

Since every one of these groups in part of the CCSS Machine, remember, their reports, articles, and resources will all put a positive spin on ESSA! Warriors, like myself, have combed through the ESSA and reported how damaging it will be.

NGA (National Governor’s Association):

State implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). In December, Congress passed this landmark legislation, which repealed the No Child Left Behind Act and devolved federal control of legislation, returning power to the states. At the Education and Workforce Committee session,governors discussed how states can move forward with ESSA implementation. The conversation continued at a Senate hearing this morning, at which Gov. Herbert testified. “Governors view ESSA as an opportunity for states to set high—but realistic—expectations for schools while allowing them to determine how to meet those expectations,” he said.”

NEA (National Educators Association):
Leading the NEA is Lily Garcia. She has made a name for the efforts to back ESSA (according to her page on the NEA website). It is called ‘Spring Into the ESSA’.
According to Lily, April 3rd is the date the NEA will, indeed, spring into your schools. How?
“Beginning April 3, NEA local associations nationwide will be hosting meetings, school walk-ins, panel discussions, and community forums designed to explain what the law means and how we can implement it in ways that benefit students.” (*Note: if you are not sure what a school walk-in is, click the highlighted link to see the 2/17 event.) From their March 2016 News, you can find this excerpt:AFT and CCSSO were at the core of an unprecedented alliance of education, parent, community and civil rights groups that secured enactment of ESSA last December—an achievement many longtime observers have labeled Washington’s “Christmas miracle” at a time of partisan gridlock. The March meeting between the two organizations suggested the possibility of that work continuing, based on a shared dissatisfaction with the No Child Left Behind status quo and a shared belief that states need to give the grass roots a real say in the rollout of the replacement law.” Read the rest:

National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL):
From their dedicated pages of ESSA resources, you can find all sorts of things related to the ESSA. One, in particular, caught my eye. It was when the NCSL worked with the NGA to push for the passage of ESSA. Why is this vital to our War Against the Core? Look at the plans both groups hatched up for states and local levels! NSBA (National School Boards Association):
This group has much to say about ESSA, but the most helpful for what we can use, is their announcement of the upcoming ‘Rules for Implementation Process’ for the ESSA. Why is this important, it will be one of the FEW public opportunities to be involved! See the screen shot:

NAESP (National Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals):

NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals):

You can bet, just like their partner in educational crimes, the NGA (remember, both the NGA and CCSSO hold the copyrights to the Common Core State Standards), the CCSSO will have PLENTY to do with the ESSA’s implementation.

Monday Musings: CCSS Tech Schedule

The ‘Common Core Machine’ is busy cranking out all kinds of support/resources/gadgets to promote our continued alignment as a nation.  Continue to read on to find out how the Gates Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the New Schools Venture Fund, Graham Holdings, GSV Capital, Imagine K12, and Learn Capital are behind this effort.

The “EdSurge” Announcement:

Recently “EdSurge” (an independent education technology resource for ‘anyone’) released the 2015-16 technology education conference schedule. If you enlarge the graphic you’ll have a first hand guide to the technology companies devoted to the CCSS Machine. In my introductory paragraph I shared with you some well known pro CCSS organizations. If you’re wondering how I discovered who backs and supports EdSurge, it is on their website.

surgesupportWhat’s interesting about “EdSurge” is if you read the “Ethics Statement” provided, you’ll run across this paragraph, “All our investors support journalistic independence; they do not attempt to influence our coverage. We have received grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Joyce Foundation to support the development of our website. We have received funding from GSV Capital, NewSchools Venture Fund, Learn Capital, Catamount Ventures and the Women’s Venture Capital Fund.” Okay, is it just myself, or do you question how ‘independent’ a media source can truly be with pro CCSS backing like this? Somehow I’m not ‘sold’ on this concept of ‘objectivity’. From my research, any time you run across a group so heavily supported by agenda driven money, you’re more likely to be ‘subjective’ in your efforts. Let’s move on, shall we?

If You’d Like to See the “Who’s Who” at EdSurge’s Conferences:

“EdSurge” is pretty cheeky, I’ll give them that. Why do I state this? Go back to the first screen shot. You’ll see it’s bright, colorful, and packed with information an anti CCSS Warrior can use. The ‘cheeky’ part (in my opinion) is that “EdSurge” has put this up for sale, so you the customer, can enjoy it 24/7. No! I’m not spending one dime of my money to knowingly support Common Core. I protest my tax money being used for it, but as we’ve seen, the citizens didn’t get to choose HOW our tax money has been used to undermine education.

You can also download a free 2 page pdf of the schedule of conferences, if you like. It’s free, as far as I can tell. Why the poster is worth accessing is this: you can see which cities and states are hosting. Why would we need this? If we’re going to fight the CCSS Machine, we have to mobile, we have to be ready to meet it head on. The main entities hosting the various themed conferences are a “who’s who” in the CCSS landscape. For example, one city will be hosting a conference lead by the NCEA for faith-based K-20 education leadership training; another will find the AASA gathering school superintendents to celebrate 150 years (no, that’s not necessarily a negative, but consider any time you gather to celebrate the past, the focus shifts to the future. It’s the future we need to be prepared for); another city’s conference will find inACOL hosting a blended learning ‘tell all’. This list of indoctrination grinds on! If you’re not sure how the above examples are entrenched in all things CCSS, I’ll be sure to provide links for you in the closing.

Back in 2012, “EdSurge” hosted a panel discussion to showcase a new initiative called the “Maker Education Initiative”. I’m providing the You Tube link for your background information. Why? Among the panelists is a U.S. Dept. of Education representative. Again, listen to the buzzwords, the rhetoric, and the ‘whole learning’ concept as it relates to CCSS (verbally admitted at about the 8:22 mark) and the heavy suggestions toward STEM (which is also absolutely tied to CCSS).

From the “Makers” 2013 Annual Report, I found this one statement in the introduction, “Our flagship program, Maker Corps, exhibited the potential of an innovative online training model to empower facilitators with the confidence to lead unique, quality making experiences at their institutions. Yesterday, I introduced you to the big push for Career Tech Education (the adult version of Common Core) from the AACC’s WDI (American Association of Community College’s Workforce Development Institute) perspective. There was quite a bit revealed. From the acknowledged partnership of  the Gates Foundation, but the Gates Foundation grant recipient (the grant was to purposefully align to CCSS), Khan Academy, to the AACC’s desire to help align K-12 through college.
However, there was SO much MORE in between.
Today, we will learn a bit more about the organization and go into a bit more detail about some of the ‘loose ends’ from yesterday’s article. If you’ve not had the opportunity to access the article, here’s the link:

Picking Up Where I Left Off:

In yesterday’s post there were several groups or CCSS/CTE geared activities I said I’ve reveal more in Part 2. This is that section. I’ll be going in order of those indications. If you need to open one window of your internet browser with “Part 1” and another with “Part 2”, that would help you keep as much organized for future reference as possible.

A) Cengage’s tie to Career Tech Ed (therefore it’s tie to CCSS):

What they do (in their own words): “Cengage Learning is a leading educational content, technology, and services company for the higher education and K–12, professional and library markets worldwide.”
(*Note: Since data and the privacy of it is a ‘big deal’, I’m including the link to the privacy statement. Why? Be sure to see how special conditions are laid out (for example: Cengage and all its websites may have different privacy parameters)

The Common Core/Career Tech Ed tie?: Yes, it’s there. If you’ve heard of “Ed2Go”, that’s Cengage. If you’ve used a Delmar course book or used a National Geographic educational resource, that’s also Cengage. If you’ve fought CCSS very long, you know Houghton Mifflin Publishing is also CCSS aligned (as are their CTE items). However, Cengage was able to buy HM’s higher education assets. Cengage has a global impact. Who’s invested in Cengage? I found one group called APAX Partners (a UK based private equity firm). APAX was worth over $40 billion on 12/31/14. They list Cengage as worth $12 billion. One last tidbit about APAX, they were vying for the Pearson IDC (Interactive Data Corporation). Here’s an excerpt, “Apax Partners has dropped out of the auction for Interactive Data Corp. (IDC), the U.S.-listed financial data provider majority owned by U.K. publisher Pearson PLC (PSO), a person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires Wednesday. B) Dr. Bumphus and “Camelot”:

If you’ve been able to watch the video I shared in yesterday’s article, you’ve been able to hear Dr. Bumphus’ words about community colleges. In yesterday’s post was just one of the articles laying out the parts that make up this “Camelot” time for community colleges. However, I wanted to see if we could find more.
For starters, I first wrote about Dr. Bumphus back in April 2015. I was looking into CHEA (Council for Higher Education) and its links to CTE and CCSS, boy did I find a tremendous amount of information! I won’t repeat all of it here, but I do encourage you to read the article. There is SO much you can use in your fight against the CCSS Machine! As far as another one of those “Camelot” speeches or bullet points, I was able to find this one from Winston-Salem, NC. In it you’ll be able to read how not only that he is an inspiration to some, but where he used to work (Voyager Expanded Learning’s Higher Education division), and that among his closest friends is the head of the NC Community College’s governing body, Dr. Scott Rall. Notice also that he’s served on several presidential task forces. As far as Dr. Randall’s influence, consider his NC General Assembly report.

Now, why would I include this report? In the article from Winston-Salem, Dr. Bumphus made sure he called NC’s community colleges a success. As a leader who is brimming with “Camelot” talk, ‘success’ is part of that feeling. It also can’t hurt that if we’re so busy trying to align all our post-secondary education, that we use each other’s models to continue the ‘collaboration’ factor involved. Dr. Rall’s report also shows those national certificates that Tamara and I were discussing in the radio interview.

If you read yesterday’s article or viewed the video, you know Dr. Bumphus called out the upcoming meeting between the Association of School Superintendents and the AACC. The meeting is to accomplish MORE alignment between K-12 and local colleges. AASA (American Association of School Administrators) is the official name of the group known as the “The School Superintendents Association”.
